  1. THank you. I would look for low sugar juices and freeze them or even yogurt. That could work! I have always avoided frozen bananas because they have a lot of natural sugar, but if you aren't diabetic they can be blended and make a nice creamy ice cream lol

    Officially Freaked Out Now!

I am eating yogurt, chicken noodle soup. Today I had some vegetable beef soup...it was like havin a steak!! I still drink protein shakes and starting Monday I can have scrambled eggs etc...
  3. After looking at the pic, man, there's still so much more to be done. But it's coming along. Sipping on a drinkable yogurt. Will have water and possibly a cup of coffee later. I went and picked up some Whataburger (burger chain here that everyone loves) for his dinner. Made a brownie cake (freebie from the store) for my girls and gave them ice cream on top that my husband bought. They can afford it; they're all slim. Lol. Thankfully it's not an everyday occurrence though. I kind of wanted to have a bite of the cake. Which is unlike me, because I'd rather have chips and queso. I believe I had moments of just wanting to have a regular meal, to be able to eat more than just 2 tbsp. I know it's all in my head though. Time to snap out of it. 😂

10 Days Out... What is normal?

Call your Dr. I'm on five days out and can easily get my shakes down. Yogurt is a breeze. Water no problem. Vitamins easy as well. Maybe I'm not normal. Idk. It's still concerning enough that I think you should call. Feel better.

    Back to work schedule suggestions

I had a protein shake before work, one at noon, and a small container of either Greek yogurt or Muuna cottage cheese in the afternoon. Don't forget to drink lots of water and be gentle with yourself! [emoji173]️

    Back to work schedule suggestions

When I was sleeved I worked 12 hour nights as a floor nurse. My packed lunches in those early weeks consisted of foods such as cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, creamed cheddar & broccoli soup, black beans & sour cream, deviled eggs, and white chicken chili.

    Back to work schedule suggestions

Im a teacher who has a full schedule u til end of day...i also like to sleep as long as possible in the morning. I start my morning taking my multi vitamin and omeprazole with applesauce. Hit the shower and get dressed to let those have 30 minutes to sit in my stomach. I drink my protein shake with 30 g. of protein on the way to work...give that 30 minutes then start drinking my water hitting it hard til my 30 minutes before lunch. I always change up lunch . Cottage cheese, jello or pudding made with unfloavered protein powder, greek yogurt or a cream soup with added protein powder. I also take my first dose of calcium at lunch.. around 4 I have a snack...normally one of my unused choices from lunch and another round of calcium...then I have supper around 7 which may be a shake depending on my other choices made that day. The the last of my calcuim is also taken. I would then decide if I needed a before bed snack... I drank water non stop between meals as allowed. But I stopped drinking at 9 in the evening so I could go all night without having to get up to go to the bathroom. My favorite thing was to make pudding with premade shakes and two scoops of unflavored protein powder. I could get 5 (4oz) savings out of a regular box of pudding...they had 100 calories and 15 g. of protein and I could change up flavor combinations by changing pudding or flavor of shake I used. Pre-Op Feelings

Purchase all your vitamins and organize them and write up a schedule to take them. I also bought a honkin' pill holder. I didn't practice sipping and I've had no issues. Gulp once and your stomach will let you know. I also didn't practice chewing. I have five weeks till I can chew and figured I'd be out of the habit anyway. I did buy tiny plates and baby spoons for the time. I use the spoons with my yogurt now. When you're home and on the liquid phase you'll have plenty of time to read what your food phases will be. Oh, do get a digital food scale of you don't have one. You'll both be just fine.
  10. No deli meat, canned soups, processed food - try to stick to cooked chicken, grilled meat, veggies, skim milk, oatmeal, blueberries, yogurt (if you tolerate milk). Use Mrs. Dash for seasoning and garlic..... Take one magnesium at night.

    Back to work schedule suggestions

I went back to the office about a week after surgery. (I"m a desk jockey and only work in the office 2 days a week.) I packed a cold bag with Premier protein shakes and crystal light type powders for my water. And an Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. I can eat at my desk. I don't have access to a fridge or microwave. I do have cases of water at my disposal. I had a shake on the way into work and brought my coffee with me. Then, sipped shakes through the day. Now (at 9 months out), I bring a shake in the morning with my coffee. (I usually work from 8:30 - 4 eating at my desk). For a late morning snack, I'll have a Oikos Triple Zero. Then around 2, I'll have my lunch. For a later afternoon snack, I might have some cheese or almonds. Best of luck
  12. 5/25 - Went to the gym and worked out cardio. My shoulders were really killing me from the workout the day before. I did not get to see the trainer today because he does not oversea cardio days. I ended up working out for an hour and trying to keep my heart rate in cardio.

I went home and started reading up on Ketogenic diets more. I found out that when Bariatric patients are required to do a liquid diet (low in carbs), we end up putting out body into a Ketogenic state. This allows our body to start burning fat as a energy resource. I was really intrigued and decided to do a full Ketogenic diet as an experience. I have foods that I omitted (red meats, bacon). I very barely would eat red meat prior to surgery so it was easy to omitted that option. I meal prepped enough chicken for the week. I can eat YASSO  frozen yogurt ice cream which is 100 calories and low in sugar with 5g of protein. I used to eat them for dessert twice a week. I made chicken breast, brocolli, mozzarella cheese (reduced fat). The remaining chicken breast, I am using to follow the Ketogenic Diet now.

5/26 - Went to my Granny's house to spend time with her. She loves seeing my progress and oh baby does she like to hear about the foods I can and cannot eat. She enjoys seeing my meal preps and just praises me for sticking to staying away from junk food.

For breakfast: I had boiled egg whites (hate the yoke).

For snack: I had 7 olives and a powerade zero calorie drink.

For Lunch: I had 4 oz of chicken breast, 1 tsp of guacamole and 1 tbsp of sour cream.

For snack: the remainder of my brocolli and cheese.

For Dinner: I will have 4 oz of salmon and 1 tsp of guacamole.

I have attached a picture below of my portion8 container. This takes me about 45 minutes to eat in it's entirety.

And a picture of the happiest baby I know. My little cousin.

Good luck with the Keto. I was eating low carb for about 5 months before my surgery. It was great at lowering my bs and I did lose 20 pounds. However: my cholesterol and triglycerides went up a lot. I stopped eating red meat also. Steak is a big trigger food for me so i have to stay away from it.

I don't blame you on the the vegan. I love my meat and cheese too much.

@Apple1 Thank you. That is one of the things I worry about. Cholesterol mainly. I just do not want to eat soo much fat that I end up causing more damage then good. Yeah I have never really been a red meat eater. I prefer chicken and turkey.

    3. Apple1

I eat a lot of fish, chicken, and turkey... well I used too..lol tomorrow will be my first time trying some baked salmon. I figured that would be a good meat to start with since it is so soft.

    When to worry about carbs?

I found that the focus on protein left little room for carbs from grains. Early on my carbs came from yogurt and cottage cheese. Regarding tracking vitamins, I use a great app called Round. Otherwise I think I'd likely not take everything. I also track my medication on it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  14. Thank you! I also said the same thing about cheese... i will change anything! ... except the cheese that's one part of me i will hold on too [emoji23][emoji23]. I'm sacrificing alot more for a healthy life. I also dont care about yogurt so i'm not going to include it in my diet at all... i prefer to save those calories for cheese when i'm able to eat it. When you say plant based.. what exactly did you buy that's plant based?
  15. I'm four and a half weeks post sleeve and I must admit to having lots of the same feelings as the original poster and others on this thread over this time. I too miss food. I've been thinking about this long and hard as there's no way back. Would I really want to go back?! I guess it all boils down to why I did this and took this extreme measure to change my weight. For me, I was literally heading for an early grave. I had a BMI of over 45 and I smoked around 30 cigarettes a day. I know, giving up smoking and my food addiction as well as surgery - crazy dude!! So fast forward a month and I've lost 35lbs and not had a single cigarette since surgery. That has got to be worth the loss of stuffing my face on a regular basis. I'm learning to live with this new stomach. Food and eating have kind of lost their appeal recently. Tiny portions and the full (more like pressure from the gut up) feeling kind of spoils most of my meals. So I eat cause I have to. Soup, soft stuff, yogurt. Not my first choice before the sleeve but it kind of works now. The trade off - I feel better, lighter, fitter already. Started exercising again which is a plus. Weight keeps dropping. No more cigarettes. Has to be worth it right?!
  16. Keep in mind you don't have very much weight to lose, if you're indeed 174 right now, and you've already taken off 31--which is fantastic. You're not going to lose at the same rate as someone like myself who was starting at 225 pounds to lose. I think you're right on track with eating and drinking. That's where I'm at right now and I'm a month out. I remember being shocked, and a little sad, when I was able to eat a cup of yogurt or drink a protein shake within a half hour. Liquids pretty much go right through your stomach, and you can eat more yogurt than, lets say, chicken breast. Once you start eating real meat and real food, you'll find that you eat less than the soft stuff, feel full longer, and will probably start losing again. Our bodies just need a break around 2-3 weeks, but keep the water up, up, up and it will pick up again.
  17. Hi, I have not lost weight since I started started stage 2. My weight keeps going back and forth between 3 lbs. up and down but remains the same. Today is day 18 post op and i finally start pureed foods last night. I get a feeling of fullness but i have not felt any restrictions. It takes me 15 minutes to finish a shake. I can eat a whole pudding cup or yogurt without difficulty. I have been keeping track of my intake and i am getting in my 60-70 gm of protein everyday. My calorie intake is between 600 to 800. I do my 30 minute walks weather permitting. I do increased housework on these last rainy days. The last 2 days i know i have not been taking in enough water. drinking only 32 oz instead 64, other wise have been right on track. I am very happy that i have lost some weight, but feeling very discouraged that nothing else is coming off after having such a huge surgery. Any suggestions? Id appreciate some help. Thank you so much.
  18. You are gorgeous! I changed to plant based, non dairy, before surgery, EXCEPT the cheese! (Got to have cheese). I don't care for yogurt and cottage cheese, even though I'm adding them now, cause they're just easier at this point. But once I get to full foods, I'm back to mostly plant based. We do eat chicken/shrimp/fish though too. Blessings on your alternative journey hon. You can do it!

    What do we need!?

After you have your surgery you will have a lot of gas pain the gas x strips will help a lot with that. Mira lax is going to be your friend that is going to get things moving once you are able to start eating food it is a horrible feeling to be constipated after surgery. Bottled water and flavor packets to put in them if you don't like plain water, sugar free pudding cups, SF popsicles, cream soups, yogurt, protein shakes ( i like premier ), any medicines you need filled get them filled ahead of time so you won't have to stand in line or wait on them after surgery, vitamins, i got sugar free hard candy to suck on after surgery because my mouth stayed dry Sent from my VS986 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Lmfaoo 9 phases.. i think i have like 4-5! I havent started puree. I'm still on clear liquids. On monday I start he said i can start eating cottage, yogurt, sugar free pudding (ideas he gave me) but does that sound like puree?? I think it is.. he said it's suppose to be really smooth and high on protein. So anything of that consistency counts right?
  21. PatientEleventyBillion

    Full liquid vs puréed

I went straight to full fluids, after doing clear fluids at the hospital. I had yogurt drinks, unsweetened applesauce, milk, tons of water, and took my meds with tiny amounts of apple juice (like less than 10mL). If they've already done leak tests/barium swallow on you to verify your digestive parts are working correctly (which I'm pretty sure a clear fluid diet goes into, they need to see you can drink water/eat ice chips without leaks or complications), I don't get why they wouldn't pass you immediately to full fluids. Puree.. you probably want to wait a week or two after surgery. For puree I had beans/melted block cheese, oatmeal, meat sauce (i.e. Ragu), and still had a few things from full fluids. Did that for a few more weeks and went on to soft solids and then normal.
  22. I think I know the answer but yogurt and pudding are allowed on the full liquid portion part of my diet (which I'm on now). I don't see cottage cheese under either purée or full liquids. Any chance it's a full liquid?
  23. Today I moved to full liquids --- yeah buddy!!! My Quick Reference Post Op Diet Stage Guide says the following: Stage 2 full liquids, lasts seven days, 40 grams of protein, a quarter cup to a half a cup of food per meal, three to four meals per day. Suggested Foods listed are yogurt, low-fat cream soups, sugar free pudding, milk products, applesauce, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, protein shake, and everything from stage one. Today I followed the list, had 4 meals, and tracked them in Bariastic. I ended the day with 437 cal, 48 protein, 34 carbs (29 net carbs) and 19g sugar. So, back to my question, at what point do I start worrying about carbs & sugars. I hit my protein goal, so I guess that's a plus, but my paperwork has no other nutritional guidelines. My checkup is in 6 days so I can ask then, I guess. I also just realized that I didn't log my vitamins, is that something that should be put into my food tracker? Sooooooooo much to think about!!
  24. This a good warning for me to be prepared when I go back to work. Food prep is going to be essential to staying mostly on plan. what did you do? I think I would have made a wawa run and got some soup or yogurt.
  25. Diana_in_Philly

    Pre op diet issues

Shoot for 60-90 grams of protein at day. 64 ounces of water. What you need to realize is that your body is de-toxing from carbs. That can cause fatigue and nastiness. As in cranky, anger, PMS type attitude. It passes after about day 3. The other issue is that you are eliminating sugar, which also causes a withdrawal. I use My Fitness Pal to track my food intake -- have done so since long before my surgery. The database is really extensive, so it tracks calories and nutrients. Do weigh what you are eating. Did your team give you specific instructions for the diet? You can always reach out to your team for additional help. But my days pre-op were: B: Protein Shake (cold coffee, caramel protein powder, ice and sugar free chocolate syrup) 30 g. Snack - Oikos Triple Zero yogurt 15 grams Lunch - Grilled chicken (3 ounces) on a salad with 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinagrette 16g snack - Mozzarella cheese stick or two 7g for 1 stick Dinner - Whatever protein I made for the family and a salad or a green veggie. Another 15 g Fairlife milk - skim 1 cup - 13g protein Drink tons of water. It really helps. I would flavor my water with fresh fruit (strawberries, lemon, lime) or crystal light or Mio. Good luck
