That's happened to me with every weight loss campaign ever (and likely will with this one). For me it makes sense...any kind of weight loss requires me to pay attention/be conscious about food and it's effects, self-consciousness is just another facet of it. For most of my life, I wasn't actually miserable about my weight, I just completely ignored it! Once a year or so, usually after seeing a particularly unflattering photograph, I resolved to "do something", with varying successes but it wouldn't be too long until I got distracted by life. You, of course, know on your head that you look better in a swimsuit than all those pounds ago...your heart just needs to catch up. When in doubt fake it 'til you make it!

    Once your lapband is full

The last time I was at the doctors, she was telling me that I am getting close to the full band. She didn't really elaborate at that point and I started to wonder about what happens after that point? I mean if I am not at my weight loss goal yet am I just SOL? I know that there is fat around your stomach when they put the band on and eventually you should just have the band on your stomach no fat. Is this what I am waiting for? So far I have done amazing I am down 173 in a year on 5/14 which is amazing. I am so proud but I am getting a little scared.
  4. I had my 1st fill today, the dr. said she was going to do 1 to 1.5 ccs but ended up getting 5ccs because I needed more restriction. I thought it was Christmas, I am super happy. She also told me that there was no fill when the surgery was done, no wonder I was still so hungry. I had the band on 9/4, 1st appt was 2 weeks later (but no fill, just follow up) and had already lost 14 pounds, as of today I gained back 5 but I am in no way sad or depressed about it. I now have 5 ccs so I am sure there is alot of restriction and can't wait for the pounds to shed!

    Scared!!!!

Physically ice cream isn't going to harm you. It is no different from a protein shake. Nutritionally it probably isn't such a good choice, but I can assure you we all make bad choices occasionally. The band doesn't make us perfect! We are the same people we are before surgery and ice cream tastes good! I don't know when you had surgery, but it sounds like you are not far out from it. Eating the right things gets much easier once you get restriction from being filled. Right now just concentrate on healing. And try not to eat ice cream all the time as it is not a great weight loss tool!
  6. Hi everyone! I was banded March 8th: _ 1st fill March 29th as I had no restriction - 2nd fill was April 24th I have had very modest weight loss, about 9lbs 2 lbs of which I regained last week before the 2nd fill. I have had a problem with vomiting often but inconsistently on different foods, ie. some days I am ok to eat salads with chicken and some days I am not. I am a little discouraged as I keep hearing there is a sweet spot but I am not finding it. I find it difficult to eat as I throw up and also don't feel full with little amounts when I can eat. I almost have my regular appetite. I was also told to take an antireflux medicine daily. Has anyone found this helps with getting food stuck/vomiting and pressure below the breastbone? I could use anyone's advice right about now. Savannah
  7. Yeah; bandster hell, however, during this time you have to find ways to control what you're eating. Through the stress of a divorce (which I can imagine is hard, I've only experienced it as a child), you've got to find a method to controlling what you eat. Losing 10lbs in a month and 1/2 really isn't too bad, but you can be sure that because of the foods you're eating, you're not gonna lose very easily and your loss will be slower. I've been eating a cup of food ever since I got to solids. While I do eat bread sometimes, pizza and a breadstick is not a healthy food choice. The band is all about finding out what foods you can eat that allow you to lose weight. Sure you can treat yourself to a slice of pizza once in awhile, but if you're eating nothing more than unhealthy foods in large portions, then you're really not using your band at all. Per the protein, I've gotten in up to 120g in a day. I'd say you need to go back to eating more protein, as it keeps you full for longer. All I can say is is to go back to the bandster rules. Eat a cup of food, 3-4oz of dense protein, vegetables, and a grain if you're still hungry. Even though you may hate counting your calories, carbs, etc. sometime it is a necessary evil. It helps to see what you're eating and how much of it each day. If you decide to start, try fitday.com or myfitnesspal.com, both are great. Best of luck.
  8. Today I am at the hositpal getting all the fluid taken out of my band and all I keep thinking is wow I hope I don't gain back all of the 40lbs I lost while going threw all this stuff for my insurance approval !
  9. Well I had my endoscopy this morning. Piece of cake. I've been on this pre op diet since June 28th. I saw my surgeon last tuesday and haven't dropped any weight really since. I don't get it. I'm following this diet outline they gave me. I only cheated once last friday. I walk daily. And the scale doesn't move. I'm scared that I will get all ready for the surgery on Thursday and the surgeon gets in there and says that my liver hasn't shrunk at all. I have one more day of protein food packets then Wednesday is all clear liquids and a bottle of magnesium citrate (ugh). On another note, it's kind of irritating that they don't give you the time that you are suppose to be at the hospital til the day before. The hospital is an hour away so I'm trying to plan what to do with my son and my mom won't give me an answer if she is going to take me to the hospital or not because she doesn't know what time. It's just really frustrating. I pretty much just want to scream right now.
  10. Post op diet of liquids, then mushies...lost weight. Who wouldn't? Then 4 weeks after surgery, got my first fill....also happened to be the time when I was allowed to go to full solid foods.... Between the first fill, and my 2nd fill 4 weeks after that, I gained weight....when i went in for my 2nd fill I felt guilty, and discouraged at the same time....\ Fortunately, my Dr. took it all in stride, laughed a little and said it was to be expected....nothing is going to be different until we get this band adjusted and working the way it was designed to do.... So I did get my 2nd fill, and things began to level off after that...not much weight loss, but stopped gaining at least...it took a 3rd fill to really start things happening in a positive way... But everyone is a little different, and their fills are to the individual...if they have a fill at all....
  11. Ok. So, I am 3 weeks post op. I know this is a healing period and the focus is not necessarily weight loss. I also know that it took years to gain the weight and it will take time to lose it. With that said, the scale at my first post-op dr. visit showed me losing 20lbs since pre-op appt. I was psyched! I am a week and a half past that post-op appt. and the scale is showing that I have gained 6 pounds. I'm not happy. I am so tempted to go back on clear liquids. I never thought I would say that but here I am. Anyone experienced this?

    Too Skinny?

I'm about 6'3" 325lbs. my goal weight is to be between about 210 and 220. Im scheduled for a sleeve august 7. I might be putting the cart before the horse but I'm kinda concerned about being able to maintain my weight around 215ish. I still want to have a little meat on my bones. I weight train and everything like that but I'm just curious if it's somewhat easy to maintain your weight if you try to once your about a year or so in??

    How many calories?!

Well I'm sure I COULD eat more, or at least eat goods high in fat. But why would I when try make me feel like crap? Good to know 1,400 calories doesnt seem like an unrealistic goal. I've gained 2 lbs an was advised not to gain any so I think in doing ok! Only 3 weeks left anyway

    out of control.

I put on 10 lbs before surgery-and then had to loose 18 lbs before they would perform the surgery My Dr counted the weight I had on the day I first saw him, the weight I had to loose was initially 8 lbs but because it takes a while to do all the testing and getting approval I gained 10 more lbs. In April I had to start dieting I had 5 weeks to loose the weight by my pre op check in-or surgery would be cancelled. I did manage to loose it thank goodness

    Weight gain

Yup, like @@onthefencejenny said, just normal adjustments the body is going through. You will probably experience a stall here soon, too. Your body is just going a little wacky is all. You are going to flucuate all the time during this journey. If the flucuations are going to drive you crazy, put the scale away so you don't have to see them Here's a good article about why it happens: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.php

    Hope My Story Helps!

I too hesitated a lot to take the "extreme" step of WLS. For so many years it seemed like the last resort of desperate people who had no other choice. It was a slap in the face when my insurance actually approved VSG, even though there were rumors of other people being denied for it from our insurance company, because it really hit home that, medically, I WAS one of those desperate people who had no other choice. I had no idea that my weight was really life-threatening. I'd been heavy my whole life and I was one of those higher-energy people who "carried it well". To have an insurance company tell me that, yes, I needed WLS was a wake-up call. I had all the same fears as everyone else who comes to this board, wondering if this is the right decision. I relied very heavily, and still do, on all the "graduates" who keep saying that it changed their lives, their only regret was not doing it sooner, etc etc. I figured that, statistically, it was very unlikely that I would be one of the exceptions and would probably have a similar (positive) outcome. Even now, 3 weeks out when I am still struggling with energy and pain, I'm believing in the collective wisdom of the great people on this board. And so far they have not let me down.

    Bulging disks?

Hi, I haven't been sleeved yet (meeting the surgeon the first time on Wednesday), but I do have bulging disks in my lower spine. In fact in 2007 I underwent an operation for one of them because it was pinching the nerve that went down my right leg - so much so that it hurt constantly and I actually could not move a couple of days because of it. My doctors at the time (the surgeon and my gp) all told me that if I was to loose weight it would help the situation in my back. I'm finally getting around to following their advice after living with the pain for all these years. I truly hope they are right. It would certainly make sense for the pain to ease up - after all your back is supporting your entire torso. And if your overweight, it has even more to support and thus under more stress. By loosing the weight, it removes some of that burden so reduces the stress on your back.
  19. Hi all. I'm 31 and suffer from cervical stenosis and pcos that causes my infertility. I have been doing infertility treatments for the past two years that have made me gain massive amounts of weight due to meds/injections and depression from all the failed attempts. I had my fist consult nov 13 and I decided on the sleeve as my procedure. I have to wait 3 months to complete all the insurance pre requisites n will schedule surgery march/April 2013. So excited. My game plan is to start back on birth control this month because it helps decrease the presence of cysts due to pcos and hopefully will help with the weight loss process. I would like to be healthy. I have no goal weight in mind. My goal is whatever I lose in 18 months following the surgery and that is when I will try to have a baby again. I am risking time waiting but I believe if I got pregnent at the weight I am now I would n the baby would suffer. I am willing to take the risk. 20. I am considering weight loss surgery and I am a sugar addict. Anyone have any suggestions to help with sugar cravings?
  21. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago, I have had 1 fill. I've lost 17 lbs so far. I joined the gym and go 5 days a week. I'm glad I have lost weight, but would liked it to be more. But I know we didn't gain it fast so its a slow process and I'm OK with that now. I do have one very confusing question. Since my fill I have noticed more food gets stuck so I believe I am tighter, but I still believe I can eat more then 4 oz of food, I don't know how much more maybe a few times I had 5 or 6 oz but never the meals I would have ever eaten before not even a quarter of what I ate before.I do not have the urge to vomit or feel over stuffed.I am never hungry between meals. So does this mean I need a fill again now because I can fit more in , even though I'm not hungry.OR Am I supposed to have both restriction right at 4 oz of food and not feel hungry between meals?
  22. At 6 years post-op, you are definitely in the "Maintenance" stage. The approach during this stage is different than the approach used in the"Weight Loss" stage. I wrote a short article that describes the approach that I followed. It is available in the following link: http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

    Gain 40 Pounds

Go back to basics... I find myself doing that over and over and over... I have been maintaining so far, but I try to stay within a bounce range. Sometimes i bounce up a bit more than i want...and then back to basics. I have learned this from "naturally slim" women. they do this constantly... I have a history of "all or nothing thinking" rather than doing small adjustments as we go. I remember regaining 5# and thinking it felt like 100... A sad realization is that I basically need to do the same things to maintain as I did to lose weight...
  24. Just weighed and I still cannot get over seeing the scale go continually DOWN! I keep checking just waiting for it to go up. It is just so counter to what I have experienced for the past 25 years and makes me a little teary eyed. Okay, so maybe I am a little emotional and potentially hormonal. Stats: Weight : 4/3/13 268.0 Surgery 4/7/13 253.2 -14.8 4/8/13 251.0 -17.0 4/10/13 249.4 -18.6 4/12/13 247.9 - 20.1 4/15/13 245.5 - 22.5 Heading out for a 2-3 mile walk.

    3 Week Post Op

Im just not hungry! I didn't drink or eat anything until 3PM. When I do try to have some puree I'm so full after only 3-4 little scoops on a baby spoon (baby spoon is not full) If I do eat I don't have 6 meals a day, maybe only 1 or 2. Is that normal at this stage? I'm also on a weightless stall, I've been stuck at the same weight for 4 days. I makes me not want to eat or drink anything at all. I have a hard time getting my protein in. I manage 1 premier protein a day. Tell me this is all normal? Will I get into the swing of things soon?
