One Month Post Lap Band Surgery

Between my surgery date and 1 month post op appt I lost about 10 pounds. I was just starting to eat regular foods. On my one month bandiversary we went to an amusement park and ate a raw carrot. I didnt chew well and slimed like crazy. I have not eaten a raw carrot since, even though i know my lack of chewing caused it. Lol. I was just starting to get my energy level back. J Banded 9/22

    Addicted to carbs....

I track everything on mfp and before input anything in my mouth I ask myself if I want to record it..... I have been able to stay under 10 carbs a day for 3 weeks now and feel pretty good most of the time. If I get tired I drink a little 5 hour energy and it does the trick. The first few days of low carbs were hard, but my doc wanted me to lose 28 pounds in 30 days, so I had to figure out how to do it and cutting carbs has done it for me. I only eat shrimp, egg whites, lunch meats and beef jerky. Pretty boring, but list 13 pounds in 2 weeks :-). I am at 9.5 weeks, sleeved 12/26

    Stalled :(

I have to share that once I limited my sugar grams to less than 25g a day weight just comes off. Slowly but off. I allow myself 50 total sugar grams to account for sugar in Greek yogurt and any milk sugars. I use dannon Greek 80 calorie yogurt and mix it with fage to get tons of Protein. I strive for at least 80g protein a day. I also added strength training so built muscle. this has gotten me too the finish. I lost 110 lbs in 9 months and this change got me the next 25 in 6 more months. I don't worry about fat or other carbs too much. my diet is usually 45-50% fat a day. my losing calories were 1300 a day. I am 5-10 but I think it is best for most people to eat at least 1200 to avoid deficiencies. just my opinion though. good luck.

    Back to sliders

I'm one month out today (woo hoo!!) but I'm falling into this trap also... I enjoy yogurt and cheese and sliced meats but there are days when solid proteins do not feel good to my stomach. I have never thrown up-- but I have had moments when I wish I could! At times like those I find it is far easier to eat my slider foods. They don't hurt. I do look forward to the day when I can have all the veggies again! I love veggies, and felt like with the band I was completely banned from them. But as I heal- I am struggling with the urge to fall into bad habits that feel good. I know better. And my weight loss has completely stalled for a while (since day 10 to now day 29) I'm trying to do the right things though and not eat what's easy- not be around it ,not bring it in the house. It's helped. I hope I can lose again.

    The Stall...

Well, I had an absolute DOH! moment today. My scales were stuck at the same weight for a solid week, right down to the ounce. My BF weighed himself this morning and weighed exactly the same as I did. That couldn't happen, he's probably 10 pounds more than me (he's much taller). We took the batteries out, replaced them, reset the scales and voila!!! I was 2 pounds lighter!!! (He was 8 pounds heavier!) These crappy scales have had me depressed for a week! Make sure to check the batteries in your digital scales, folks! It matters! (This commercial message was brought to you by Diane, your BariatricPal dumbass!! LOL)

    Day 20.

I'm on day 19....I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Please let us know what doctor says....Hope you are feeling better soon.
  8. Hi, Right now for the first 10 days after surgery just do the best you can. It does take time to get the liquids in. If you are getting Protein drinks in that is wonderful. Each day it will get easier and easier for you. I always say the 1st month is the hardest month you will ever do. It is a all day job, just keep sipping what ever liquids are drinking ALL day long. Hugs, Suzanne

    2 days post op

Hello all I'm new here. I was just sleeved on 10/04. So far I am doing okay. I have a lot of gas pain and am a bit sore. My surgeon wants us to drink 1-1.5 bottles of clear isopure a day and I can't even choke that stuff down without wanting to throw up. What else can I drink to get my protein in? Zero Post-op Nausea

I never had nausea when sleeved 5/1/19. And I did nothing preventative
  11. I just got my VSG on 10/23 and my incision sites were doing great until yesterday. It looks like my stomach broke out into hives but only around the sites. Their crazy itchy and I’ve been carefully using hydrocortisone cream around the sites. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips? thanks!
  12. It's so crazy how everyone's body and VSG differ. I had mine 10/03 and am down 15.6 lbs since the 1st. 9 of those lbs. are after the procedure. I try to get at least 5,000 steps in from my daily 10,000. I get too tired to do anything else. I cannot wait to get in the gym. Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre Op Weight Loss Update

So April 13 I found out that I have to loose 10 pounds before my surgery on June 4th. I was really concerned because its so far away I am good at loosing weight but always gaining it back. Plus I am a sales rep that spends the majority of my week on the road. I have been doing liquids for 2 meals and on the 3rd meal I am doing something healthy, mainly fish and veggies. There are a few times like I cheated like all day mother's day. But I have worked really hard at making time to do at least 45 min of exercising at least 3 to 4 days a week. I have been weighing in at home and doing well, so I thought. I got on the scale at my YMCA and it said I only lost 3 pounds in a dang month!!!! WTH!!!!! So I remembered that my doc office said that I can come in anytime to weigh myself before the surgery to make sure I am staying on track. I weighed myself today. I lost 9 pounds!!!!! 1 more pound to go and I have 8 more days to go. I feel really good about it. I am starting straight liquids monday for all my meals.

    Clothing for Hospital

I brought a robe so that I could take walks without mooning everyone on the ward. I also brought a toothbrush and toothpaste, 1 pair of pajamas (because I get so cold and knew the hospital Johnny would not be adequate warmth) I brought a Super soft fluffy blanket, phone and charger, chapstick because my lips always get so dry, hairbrush and pony tail things, 2 clean pairs of panties, and slippers with actual rubber soles. I wore the same pants home but brought a clean blouse because I didn't want any cooties close to my incisions from previously worn clothing. Even if I did only wear it for 2 hours on the way to the hospital. My hubby had a nice new bottle of water for me for the ride home. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. Now that I am truly in the maintenance phase of my journey, I constantly look for ways to find motivation to stay on track. I weigh myself not for results, but to make sure the numbers stay constant. Without looking for weight loss, what is the motivation? I know how easy it is to fall back into bad habits. I found myself just a couple of weeks ago, realizing I was grazing too much and it showed on the scale. I have my own limits in terms of heading into the red zone. Above 115, I have to get my act in gear...above or even close to 120, that's a real problem. So far, I'm bouncing around between 112 and 116 but in order to stay in that range, I have to constantly remind myself of how it used to be with me. I make sure to keep myself aware of all the NSVs I have day in and day out and never to take them for granted. That means anything from buying clothes in the petite department instead of the women's department to walking around the city with minimal pain instead of struggling each and every step as I used to do. Even just this morning...starting my day by stretching my hamstrings and lower back as the physical therapist has recommended, I paid attention to how I could easily bring my bent leg to my chest because my leg, belly and thigh are normal sized. I went to JC Penney's yesterday because they were having a sale on fashion jewelry. I already have lots of clothes and don't need more, so I'm changing it up with accessories. I treat myself like I'm a real life Barbie doll and after years of buying clothes based on if they fit, it's wonderful to now buy based on how they look on me. I try to reward myself with things other than food. It's not always about purchasing things....I reward myself for getting to the pool to exercise by spending ten minutes in the sauna. Or I reward myself with a movie I really want to see, or an afternoon with a good book, a glass of wine, and a wedge of low fat Laughing Cow cheese. I know that I will have to be vigilant the rest of my life. Food will never be something I can take for granted or have a normal relationship with. It is my drug and I have to respect that addiction and always plan ahead to keep myself safe. I know that alot of folks on the site are in the losing weight stage and when they are maintaining, they drift away. I'm going to do my best to hang around and comment on this part of the journey. I daydream sometimes about my 5 or 10 year anniversary at a normal weight. My fervent hope is that my family and friends forget what I used to look like and think of me at this size like I was always this way. I think that's a good goal to reach for now that my weight goal has been met.

    Surrealness at Walmart

ok I had a totally freak out moment at walmart on Sunday. So far, I havent really bought any new clothes or anything since me weight loss. yes, I am a saggy clothes wearing mess. I dont have any spare money. My hubby has been in and out of the hospital for 2 months now and money is tight. Soooo... I went to walmart on Sunday to get a few things to eat and wondered over to the clothes section just to see what they had. I had a serious crazy moment. I was looking at pants in my usual plus size section and pulled a pair from the rack that said 2x, but then stopped and looked long and hard. These pants were huge. Thinking it was the brand I moved on to another pair. Size 20, ummmm....huge. I went thru about 6 racks of pants and then it hit me, I cant fit this stuff anymore. Am I that small? I dont feel that small. I feel like a fat moo cow. How can this be? I ventured over to the jr's section and saw a size 15, It looked about right, but no way I'm that little. just no. So i tried them on. I stared for about 10 min first and I'm sure the other customers thought I was mental as I muttered to myself and stared at pants for a long time! lol! Went to the dressing room and to my shock I could fit a size 15. A SIZE 15!!!!!!!!!!!! That means In stretchy pants I can wear a 14. 14!!!!!!!!! WTF!!! How can i be that small. I'm still not convinced. maybe its walmart, I dunno. I snatched up the cute sweat pants with princess on the legs. Size 14 then rethought it. What if they dont fit? So I got the 15/16. I got home and my husband wondered what took me so long. I couldnt explain. I tried on the 15/16's and they are a bit big, but still fit great. I guess i could have gotten those 14's! Oh well....maybe next month! tee hee! So do i have body issues?? I just thought maybe I was trippin. I dunno., This has really shook me to my core. I dont understand. I still see myself as huge. Will this always be even if I get down to 200lbs???

What to do!? 1st day @gym in 3 yrs!

Thanks ppasjm for sharing your experience, that's exactly what I was looking for. I know there are plenty of people who have been working out (even if not consistently) before surgery and their experiences would be very different than mine. I'm definitely taking your and JohnLatte's lesson to heart. I'm going to plan in small 5 or 10 minute increments at a time. I'm going to push myself but not bc I want to reach a "time" limit, as I get in better shape I'll be able to push like that. The idea is I want to be sure I can return to the gym and go regularly so I'm going to avoid being too fervent my first few days out. Just gonna start to get the hang of things. After I go today I'll be sure to report back and let you guys know how I did! Thanks again.
  21. Sooo, I've been cleared to exercise (I'm entering my 6th week post op). I found and joined a local gym, very small, but with all the basic machines. Here's my problem, I haven't worked out (at a gym or otherwise) in over three years!! When I say I'm out of shape, I mean, dreadfully lol. A flight of stairs leaves me winded and a walk around the block makes me tired. BUT i am determined. I have only lost 20lbs since surgery and I'm sure my super slow metabolism is a factor. Can anyone give me pointers on where is a good place to start today? Not sure what to do or for how long. I obviously want to challenge myself, but not to the point where I push so hard I injure myself of something. I was thinking to do 10 mins of full body stretching (using the Sworkit app for pointers), 20 mins on the elliptical, and 15 mins on the bike. What do you all think? Too much, not enough? Would love pointers from those who began their fitness journey after surgery as well! Thanks in advance everyone

    struggling

I'm not doing well. I've cheated on my pre-op diet everyday. I feel guilty about it, but after struggling with food all my life, I find it really ironic that I'm expected to go solid free for 10 days. Oh well, hasn't happened yet, and I'm scheduled for Tuesday the 10th. Nutritionist told me that they would still go through with surgery but that I would find it more difficult after surgery. Nothing about this has been easy, and I'm still considering backing out.

  24. My name is BinkieGirl, but you can call me Bink. I was banded on July 10 2003 by Dr. Bradley Needleman in Columbus Ohio. So far I've lost somewhere around 20 pounds thanks to several complications including having my stomach swell shut for several days. All in all, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you!
  25. I am finding that I am eating more and more lately also. My surgery was 7/01 and I have lost 64 pounds, with which I am very pleased. I am also off all diabetic and blood pressure meds since surgery so am much healthier than I thought possible this soon. But.......I am now reaching the point where I always get bored and revert to bad habits and am having to fight harder each day to stick to the program. The last time I lost any weight, about 30 pounds in 2004, I lasted about 3-4 months and then the holidays came and I gained it all back plus a few. So I am concerned. I wish to luck and success with your efforts! Leigh
