the scale hasnt moved
ladylaura replied to dee2rod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate the plateaus. I've had a couple so far that lasted about 2 weeks at a time. Now, I finally made it to 200...and I step on the scale this morning and it tells me I'm at 202 again! Grrrr! In one day?? LOL *sighs* So frustrating. Hang in there! It has to drop at some point (that's what I keep telling myself anyway lol). -
I need some advice....I am 3 weeks and 2 days post op and i have felt like i had a UTI, but tested negative. But i so a high amount of Protein in my urine. The first urine test they did showed 30 and then today they did another and it went up to 50. I am worried and wont get to talk to my PCP till tomorrow. Has anyone else had this?

I'm jealous of you guys. I want restriction but don't have any yet. I was banded 9/6/07 and have had 3 fills (my last one was last week). I really don't feel any different. My doctor will only give me .5cc at a time. (I have a 6cc band). The doctor seems annoyed that I have went back 2x in 2 month since my first fill. He kept telling me to exercise more, eat healthy and kept pointing to his head, stating it's all up there. I told him I am eating healty and exercising, however, I had this surgery to curb my appetite and I feel no different (actually it's the surgeon's assistance who I'm now dealing with).

Val, 4 lbs this week...Way to go. It is much better finally having some restriction. Some mornings I can barely swallow much before noon, but I am pushing it and trying to lose as much as possible quickly. Please let me know if you think your band is feeling tighter in the next 2 weeks. My dr said to expect that. Keep up the good work, Dave

Going back to horse riding
acampbell1318 replied to bngarza's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ride horses also and I am 3 weeks post op and my doctor won't even let me walk my horse yet. -
Are you sure that you're not just overeating to the point that you pb? If you are sure that's not the reason, then I agree with Harley Nana.... Go and get your band checked out... You might just have tightened up over time If all is well consider taking the following actions 1. have a few days on fluids, throwing up a lot can irritate you stoma and lead to further throwing up... it's a viscous circle. 2. keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, noting when you are throwing up and exactly what you are eating... It's not revolutionary, I know, but it may show you what you are/aren't doing that's hindering further fat reduction. Follow the bandster rules: SaggiJ, You do know what the bandster rules are regarding meals, don't you??? they are as follows... 1. No drink 30minutes before and 45 minutes after food 2. Eat good quality, solid food that will stay in your pouch and give you satisfaction. 3. Eat you Protein FIRST, then your vegetables.... then if you have room you can eat the carbohydrates!!!! If you eat the mash first, then you are asking for trouble in the weight loss stakes..... You also know that it's small bites.... no bigger than 10p piece then chew chew, chew!!! taking larger bites and swallowing them before they're well and truly mushed in your mouth, is asking for trouble, especially when you're tight! Success depends on following these rules and working with your band, not against it! Come on girl, you know what you should be doing!!! Taken from a previous post! Hope that this helps a bit! Hx

What else there to drink on full liquid diet?
tarajim replied to rbailey60's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan had me off Clear liquids and onto all liquids the day after I got home. I was on total liquids for one week. This was the week for Protein shakes and Soup (without chunks). Do you have a nutritionist? Did your Nutritionist give you a plan or guidelines? Every Doctor has a different approach. If you can't rach the DR. can you reach the NUT? It would have been hard to be total clear liquids for a week, but I have read some doctors recommend that approach. There are other clear juices, Cranberry, and blends, Juicy juice too. You can strain chicken noodle soup or Beef Vegetable soup. Before you move to full liquids, make sure that your DR is ok with it. Also, make sure you are really hungry and not HEAD hungry. Walking, a lot of walking, will help the pain and the gas go away. You have to get up, get busy, and stop thinking about food. Time to change your life is NOW!!! Good Luck... TJ -
Hi all! Just got my lap band Dec 6 2007. Was on liquid diet for first week now on fairly reg diet, ie meats, proteins, vegies and fruits. I am finding this adjustment odd. I know I must be over eating related to feeling food where I dont think it should be (my esophagus) Its an odd feeling of discomfort that wont go away for hours. Don't know if we all go thru this or what. Figure I'm in an adjustment period? Anyway, despite this and having had much pain I wasn't expecting after surgery, I'm doing ok.

Thanks. I am sure that I will have many questions in the weeks ahead. Everyone this board seems very supportive. [/url]

Dr. Nease was my Dr. I was banded on 5/12/08. I liked him and his staff very much from the get-go. I felt he was very personable and he treated me with respect - and that means so much! My one week follow-up (post-op) was not great, but there was some confusion about my appointment date...not the fault of Dr. Nease. On the day of surgery, I actually saw him very little - just a few moments, but just knowing he was going to be there when I was under made me feel calmer...I just felt secure in his ability. I went home the same day...I actually stayed in a hotel overnight because I didn't feel up to a four hour drive. It all happened very fast, but it was ok, I have done ok, and the surgery went fine. Best of luck, and if I can help or answer any questions about the experience I had at Cabell Huntington, just let me know. This is all new to me, but I will offer any support I can.

Severe dehydration
Kimjuly7 replied to Lovelyorchid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive been having the same problem. I am not even getting half the recomended 64oz. I keep water next to me but cant get it in before the day is over. experiencing dizzyness when standing and headaches. I am sure it is dehydration. I may have to try the popsicle idea. I go back to work next week and I am scared I will pass out. Guess maybe I should talk to the doctor? Had my surgery almost 1 month ago. -
Today I saw the psychiatrist and also had my final appointment with my doctor. Got all of the paperwork together and added the medical clearance letter. Afterwards, I dropped the paperwork off at the surgeon's office. Now all there is to do is wait. The surgeon's office will call me in a couple of days to schedule the consultation. I sure wish I could have made that appointment today. I am more than ready to do this! Hopefully, I will be able to get in for the consultation by next week. Crossing fingers (cuz I can't cross my darn legs)!

Sushi but without the rice.. Is it ok?

If you were banded only 6 weeks ago, you're still healing. If I were you, I would wait another 2 weeks before you continue the exercise regimen you mentioned. Walking is fine, but anything other than that may disrupt the healing process.

Question- Weird mouth
Jennie Boom replied to Jennie Boom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys! I'm just gonna keep an eye on it. I have my first week post op appt Monday so I'm going to see what they say... I hope it's not thrush lol I did get a tongue scraper so thanks for the advice! it did help a little . -
I had my second fill three days ago and I tried some regular food tonight. It was awesome! I hadn't had any restriction yet, but I ate about 3/4 c. food tonight and I was very satisfied, and it lasted for several hours. I even had chocolate in the cabinet that I could resist because my stomach said it was already happy. I did not have any problem with food getting stuck, but I was very, very cautious and chewed about a million times per bite. I just hope the restriction sticks, but even if it doesn't, I finally feel like the band is pulling its own weight. I feel a lot more inspired now to follow the diet better and amp up my exercise routine to start seeing some results.

Burning in stomach-help appreciated!
Dreamingofhealth posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys! I hope someone can help... I have been having a burning sensation in my stomach for about 6 days. It comes in waves you could say, it's a cross between an empty stomach hungry feeling and intense burning. I have finished my 30 day supply of Prevacid(sp?) And the burning and heartburn feeling started after that. I'm just wondering if any of you have experienced this and what I can do. I can't seem to get a hold of my surgeon at the moment. I have tried tums so far as I can only have chewables at the moment. I am 5 weeks out. Thanks for your help Sheena :-) -
Post-Op Problems With Veggies?
IowaAndy replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been able to do some scrammbled eggs with a little cheese but I have not tried anything close to the raw side of veggies. I am about 8 weeks out and I have had peas, carrots, and green beans but they have all been very well cooked and more of a mushy consistency. I never really got along with green peppers before surgery so I am sure that they will be one of the last things that I try and add to my diet. I too would try the process of elimination and see which one causes the problems. You can always try the one that you are having problems with in another few weeks and you might be able to tolerate it at that time. Best of luck. -
I'm ten days post op and I too started that pain, way more than i thought but thats why the surgeon says you had surgery lol......the first week the worse, but try putting a pillow on that side when you get up and always roll over to the side before u get up....also ice it , I know it sucks but it will help with the swelling

I stalled also about week 4, just drink some protein and soft foods, will start losing
-
That point is normal for a stall.

Exactly. We have to get into some kind of regular regiment. Discipline ourselves so it's not such a huge shock. A little commitment maybe each week. Like this week I gave up coffee. Next week no bread or rice. That's a big one! At least for me.
