Fat Consumption For A Day..
VJSlim replied to VJSlim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks for the fast reply, dorrie! I didnt worry about fat either -- until today. The yogurt that I bought today weighs 136gms a cup. It had 2gms of fat and 3 gms of Protein per 100gm serving. I'm planning to have 2 cups a day - which will be 5.4 gms of fat and 8 gms of protein approx. I just wanted to know if this is a conservative number. -

Whats happening ?
Humming Bird replied to mizofatso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Potato chips and corn chips are no longer a slider for me. I'm too tight for them to be a slider. No matter how much I chew them up they cause pain. I think sometimes it is a texture thing too. Anything that will melt like icecream or chocolate is for sure a slider. I do not avoid all sliders or I would suffer from malnutrition or starvation. My band is pretty tight and even tighter in the mornings. Some foods that may be considered sliders are on my regular menu......yogurt, cream of wheat, soup ...... I just try to stay away from the high cal. ones like icecream. -
I just made banana ice cream and it is delish. Take frozen banana slices,Greek yogurt, peanut butter and sweetener of choice and blend it. You can add some nuts afterwards. I placed it in the freezer and done. Tastes like ice cream. I am going to use pineapples tomorrow to make sorbet for myself . It worked well with my nutribullet.

Protein Shakes & Smoothies
bambam replied to MrsGonk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over a year out from my surgery and find I'm usually tight in the morning so this is my "Breakfast smoothie": 3 oz of pineapple juice 3 oz of milk 1 vanilla low-fat yogurt (I use Activia) 1/2 frozen banana 2-3 frozen strawberries (8 blueberries or so if I have them on hand) 1 scoop whey isolate Protein powder - vanilla I just mix it in my blender and it's great. It is about 280 calories and 28 grams of protein. That is pretty much my fruit and dairy for the day. For lunch and dinner I concentrate on getting in the remainder of my protein and try to get a little veggie in. HTH! -
I make them too- Genepro- small Amount of yogurt- day free milk and strawberries Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thanks TexasMama! I usually don't eat anything after about 6 or 7 pm... Maybe I am not drinking enough water? I don't understand because it seems like the more water I drink the heavier I am the next day. I don't know what is up. I am eating 3 meals and 1 snack (usually a yogurt.) a day. I know the weight will catch up eventually, but I wish it would hurry up!!

Some NSV (and a scale victory too!)
Malaika replied to Malaika's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Actually you can eat 24/7 if you want - they have pizza and ice cream available on the Lido Deck 24/7; plus all day long on the Lido deck you can eat and to top it off, you can get room service (FREE) 24/7 ... so the only really "planned" meal is dinner. We just avoided the dining room and Lido Deck as much as possible. No pizza and only 1 small frozen yogurt cone. -
Here are some of my breakfast, because like you I don't eat at home and I don't have a lot of time: Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt with 2x Protein (only 80 calories) with a few blueberries and a sprinkle of granola Special K Protein Cereal with 1% milk Weight Watchers High Protein shake (20 g of protein) High Fiber Oatmeal with blueberries or banana or apple chopped up in it All of these are fairly low cal, so if I get hungry mid morning I will have an apple with Peanut Butter or grapes with cheese, or a peach What I try to do is eat a lot of protein, fiber and fruit and veggies each day. I try to eat clean- nonprocessed- it has helped me not only feel better, but my body is more regulated.

Weighing your food on a food scale
momof3_angels replied to chaibaix's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Disclaimer: I am still pre-op (until Wednesday). I also know that weighing/measuring/and recording foods are going to be my biggest challenge. That said: I do believe from everything I have learned that this will be vital to my success. At least, it will be in the first several months while I retrain my body to eat the right foods in the right portions. In the simplest of explanations: By weighing and measuring your food, you can be sure accurately eat proper portions and nutrient amounts. When we "eyeball" amounts, we tend to serve ourselves more than we are supposed to eat at one time. When we do that, we are overeating. We also are more unsure of what amounts of nutrients we are eating (too many carbs, too little protein). My "small" bowl may only hold 4 ounces of food, your "small" bowl" may hold 6-8 oz of food. That is a huge difference, and can mean the difference in being successful or not with your weight loss. The goal is to get the right portion sizes with the right nutrient amounts. And in keeping portion sizes small, you are reducing the risk of stretching your stomach back. When you do that, you are more hungry and you want to eat more. I hate measuring, so right now I buy individual sized servings of anything I can. 1 serving of tuna or chicken. 1 serving of greek yogurt or v-8 juice. Or whatever foods I have been told to eat. Post-op... I know I will be eating less at each meal for a while. So, I purchased 2oz and 4oz disposable containers. I will use them to put things like my jello and yogurt into until I am up to a full serving. For tracking food, I am learning to use the Bariastic app... but there are other apps you can use. I like this one as it is pretty simple to use, and I can take a picture of UPC codes for my foods. I also bought scales for food not long ago. Another tool I bought was a bariatric portions plate/bowl. Waste of money? Maybe. But I am hoping it's plate bowl sizes and visuals will retrain me to automatically serve myself smaller portions. I have 2 bowls, 2 plates, and some smaller spoons/forks. Eventually I hope to not have to measure everything, but for the first 6 months to a year I will do my best to measure and track EVERYTHING. -

AJ Tylo replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude -
Pre-Op Diet Scares Me Most
glogarza replied to glogarza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is the pre-op diet: DIET: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner should be low calorie protein shakes or Non fat yogurt. We highly recommend a company by the name of REVIVAL SOY http://www.revivalsoy.com or go to a health store and look for a low calorie protein shake. The rest of the day or if you are still hungry at meal time you can have clear liquids. You should drink about 8 glasses of water or more a day. And Jell-O the low calorie kind is a clear liquid. Other clear liquids are beef and chicken broth, apple and grape juice, nonfat milk, and cranberry juice. -
One week post-op with severe reflux and bile
dmich108 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had the VSG on 10/24. Was doing fine, until today. Woke up with severe reflux. Eating yogurt didn't help. Drinking water made it worse. Spoke to surgeon's assistant, finally, and was told -- ready for this -- I'm not eating enough. First time in my life I've been told that. I've been "eating" Greek yogurt, about 4 teaspoonfuls at a time; drinking protein shakes, about two hours to get down 4 ounces; a little bit of chicken broth; and water. Anyone have any ideas what more I can try to eat at this point. I don't get to introduce food until around Thanksgiving. -
Dairy sensitivity and protein shakes :(
xxjosettexx replied to xxjosettexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll check out that protein! I mix my shakes with coconut milk at the moment! I have tried the VEGA brand from GNC. I looked into isopure, but it uses hydrolyzed whey protein. I'll check out syntrax! My Dr's program is a 4 week long liquid diet (including yogurt/pudding) after surgery before moving into soft foods, and adding foods in as tolerated at one month out. There is no puree phase or anything so I have to find a solution for the next three weeks lol -
July 16 Sleever, got a few questions. :)
FireWife replied to mb1o27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had my surgery July 16. I was on Clear Liquids for a week, but was unable to drink any of the Protein drinks because I'm pretty sure it caused dumping syndrome for me, even in small amounts. Instead, I drank plain greek yogurt mixed with Water, about 2 Tbsp at a time for a week. I've just started eating 2-3 Tbsp of cottage cheese or watered down refried Beans, 3 times a day. I tried scrambled eggs a couple days ago (ate a quarter of one egg) and felt uncomfortably full. I also drink about 2/3 of a G2 and have a couple sugar free popsicles a day. I've gotten above 200 calories once in all these days. My biggest problem is getting tired easily, which is an obstacle because I also have two little kids and a husband who is gone for the summer. I'm allowing myself to take it as easy as I can, figuring everything non-essential can wait. I'm active normally because of my kids' activities, so I'm not burdening myself with trying to exercise while I'm eating so few calories. -

Carb question
OutsideMatchInside replied to ShannonSinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr and almost every plan I have seen is against grains. And even though there are grains like maltomeal and cream of wheat on my plan as options, my Dr still says to avoid them if possible. I see a lot of people eating cheese and crackers or crackers with their tuna salad. Or all the people that eat yogurt. Still 60-80 grams of carbs seems impossible with a tiny stomach, and still getting Protein in. -
9/7- 1 year Surgiversary! Down 130 lbs!
Tekara3927 replied to Tekara3927's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! So I'm going to be honest. I eat what I want, when I want. I got this sleeve to help control portions, not control my life. I know Protein is important above all else, so I make protein based meals, but I still enjoy my carbs! Lots of Greek yogurt, cheese, turkey, chicken and a whole lot of beef jerky! (I'm obsessed!) I take Zumba classes regularly, try working on my arms a lot, and as far as my skin, I mean it's not amazing. But I have seen WAY worse. My arms are a little flabby, but I have been using "it works" wraps pretty regularly and that has helped tremendously along with defining gel. hope this helps. It really just depends on the person, everyone's results and theories are different, these are mine . I did get really bad gall stones and have my gall bladder removed a month ago. Phew, glad that's over! Best wishes !!! -
Try adding 1 tablespoon of PB2 into vanilla greek yogurt with 1 teaspoon of chia seeds ....oh. my. goodness. It is So good!!!

Cooking for one is "soul destroying"? I don't cook a lot, but the thought of having to cook three meals a day for a large family like my mother and grandmother's had to do doesn't remotely appeal to me. I get to decide what I make, when. Fortunately, I don't find that soul destroying. I am learning how to "cook" and am finding it fun to roast or grill a protein and some vegetables. I still eat a lot of yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, turkey, etc. that don't need to be "cooked".

2 weeks out, what are you eating?
thegeek replied to fletcher97701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At two weeks, my surgeon's plan said I could start the mushies. You'll want to check with your Dr first, but I've been living on the following: Cream of Wheat Egg (1, with a little salsa) String cheese Cottage Cheese Soups from a local Soup shop (puree'd) Lite Yogurt etc. It hasn't been that bad. Again, check with your Dr, but those are the things that are working for me. -
I'm 10 days out as well and into the thick liquid, etc... phase. I was excited to add yogurt and milk to my mix but the last 2 days my stomach gets really upset. I don't know if it's b/c I'm adding food OR because my body currently doesn't like the dairy products. It liked them just fine before and it would make no sense for it to like it now. It better start liking them soon. I do not want to loose yogurt and have to start drinking soy milk. I can't wait to get to real food though this also scares me! However I welcome feeling full...this liquid/mushy phase I honestly can't tell if I'm really full or not. Maybe that sounds stupid but my head isn't getting a message from my stomach. I stop eating so I don't throw up but I still feel a little hungry.
