  1. Ashley, The best thing I found for the liquid was the unjury chx soup. On soft foods I bought a magic bullet from target (like $50) and anything my family ate I was allowed to eat as long at it was in bullet for 30-45 seconds. It looks like poop, but it doesn't taste too bad. You should be on liquid for a week or so..then puree for about 3 weeks. Scrambled eggs were good during puree just make sure not to cook them too much. Also I ordered the unjury cheese sauce and put it on stuff like mashed taters, eggs. It is very important to keep your protein up (60-80) and liquids (try to shoot for 64 oz). I am on soft right now and I am able to eat anything that I can mash with fork, so stuff like meatloaf that is soft, chicken breast in a slow cooker with a couple cans of cream of chicken soup so its really soft, but you can't/shouldn't have chicken that is grilled. Tuna fish/salad also has been a staple. Ask you NUT they can give u some great ideas. GOOD LUCK

    OMG this is real!

I made a list of foods I really wanted to eat and knew I probably wouldn't be able to eat again (I only had a 1 week pre-op diet- go figure) -- so I ate those. After which, I didn't indulge again because I wanted to get my body ready for the big change. I was really very okay with the whole surgery idea -- I wasn't nervous until I was wheeled into the OR -- I had done so much research, been on this forum, been watching YouTube videos that I really felt like I knew the ups and downs and insides and outsides of the whole surgery. I think by making my husband watch some of the YouTube videos (he wouldn't watch all) it also helped him with not being nervous. I really don't regret it at all -- I think the sleeve saved my life (and my husband does too) -- I'm really really thrilled with it Good luck with your pre-op diet and let us know how your surgery goes!

Its like the Elephant in the corner

Mark- I was banded on the 21st of Feb, 2004. I weighed 240 and now I weigh 216. My second week that I just went through seemed to be a little slow but I am hoping that the next 4 weeks before my fill I will loss more. I would like to be filled sooner but I guess the doctors want to wait 6 weeks. I also run on my tredmill 1 mile a day. That is all I can do at this time. I haven't exercised since I was a cheerleader in college. Well let me know how you are doing. I have a feeling it will all work out. Eryn
  5. Hi All, Well, I'm on the 4 week countdown til my Surgery, it is on Feb 4th. Typing this, my belly just did a somersault; I'm nervous, scared, excited. I have about 85 pounds to lose. I have lost weight and gained weight etc, the roller coaster. Any one else getting banded on the 4th???
  6. Hi Liberattor, I was banded at Bajanor on May 24, 2007. I loved the staff and the doctors. The hospital is not easy to look at on the outside but the inside was immaculate and very nice. I was given pain meds and antibiotics to last a week. After that, I used Tylenol with no problems whatsoever. I would go to Bajanor again in a second. Dr. Carlos will answer all your questions. Also, if you ask, they will provide you with a list of former patients, including email and phone numbers. I called many former patients and 9 out of 10 were very happy with the care they were given. I hope this helps you with your research.
  7. Hi everyone, i finally got a surgery date which will be June 8th however i keep going back and forth about the date because i have a trip planned to go to TN on June 28th -July 9th, So if anyone can give advice or recommendations if this surgery date is too close to my trip??? SHould i be okay??? I know i will be very restricted at this point and I am okay with that, i am just worried about how people usually feel at 3 weeks out. are you tired??? still nauseated??? Thanks!
  8. I am a band over bypass patient. Had surgery 2/15/10. Yesterday 3/18/10 I went to get my first fill. Stood in front of the fluorscopy machine, drank some barium (nasty stuff) watched it run down to my stomach. She sprayed my stomach with freezing spray. stuck that gigantic needle in which thankfully I did not feel a thing. She filled up my band. Then released it all back out. Then she said why isn't it going down any faster than that. I was like huh? LOL She told me to take a deep breathe that did not help. I could see the barium drink in my esophugus and it was releasing into my pouch but very very slowly. So she was saying I had some good restriction and decided not to give me a fill. She said since I am a band over bypass patient there may still be some swelling in there which is casuing the restriction still. Now I have to go back in 2 weeks to try again. I sure the heck hope that nothing is wrong. The Dr. was quite surprised while she had me standing in there going thru this, so when they are surprised that makes me worried..anyone else go thru this type of ordeal ? Robin in Cincinnati, OH banded 2/15/10

    Realistically:

I have had 3 mixed drinks since surgery. Two of them I couldn't finish because I was at dinner and no drinking while eating. The first one I had after surgery I got quite the buzz, that was probably 10 weeks out. I don't wish to drink often due to the empty calories and honestly I didn't drink that much before.
  10. I am 2 weeks post op and wanted some peanut butter so I burnt a piece of bread and spread it on that after 3 bites I was miserable ..how long does it take for this to digest

    Flying to Japan

Hi Kristy, You may have already been to Japan and returned, but I just wanted to let you and anyone else who may be flying to Japan know about Dr. Kazama and Dr. Seki from the Yotsuya Medical Cube which is a small private hospital located in Tokyo. You can Google the hospital and get the telephone number. Ask for the doctors and they will make sure that you get an appointment. Will you be visiting or will you be living in Japan? Chances are if you are visiting you will not have any problems during your visit. I was on mushies when I flew to Japan 2 weeks after my surgery. The Airlines allowed me to bring small bottles of baby food (meat) due to my dietary restrictions. Actually, they were quite accommodating. Hopefully, you had a great time in Japan!! Leona
  12. Niki, At two weeks post op did your surgeon okay bread and peanut butter? I'm a week post op and on week two I start puréed foods for about a four week period. Have to wonder if your temptation to satisfy a craving was the reason for your pain. Stick to your doctors plan if you deviated by eating this food today. Feel better
  13. Thanks armywife I have my 2 week post op tommorrow ..I am starting to feel better now..

    Feeling full

You could possibly reduce your protein since you’re in maintenance & it’s very filling & up your vegetable intake. Daily requirement in the US is 0.8g protein per kilo you weigh so you could reduce your intake to about 50g. But check with your surgeon & dietician first. (My dietician said I needed a little more because of my age so I work at 1-1.2g protein per kilo of weight.) I can eat more now than I did at 6 months & more than I did at 12 months. To get my calories in to maintain (about 1200+/-) I feel like I eat all day long. I snack about 4 times a day on dairy, fruit & multi/whole grains in addition to my three meals. I also still take ages to eat: 30-40+ mins for breakfast & dinner & about an hour for lunch but it does enable me to eat a little more. Are you still leaving time between when you eat & drink? Have you tried plant based proteins? I believe they can be easier to digest & may not upset you or fill you as much. I really think you need to have a conversation with your surgeon & then your dietician because you’ve been struggling so much.

    Meal Replacements

I have to go on a 2 week pre op diet. I was told to use meal replacements 2 x a day. I've bought some samples of different products and brands,,I had a couple sample packets that read specifically "meal replacement" I looked at nutrional info and they do have all the extra vitamins whereas the regular protein drinks just provide you with basically protein. Does anyone recommend a good meal replacement?

  18. Hello all! My surgery was 6/27, and I was put on solids a week sooner than planned due to severe nausea that pills wouldn't touch. It helped tremendously. I have no pain when eating, only sometimes a slight discomfort once it hits my stomach when I'm full. I only eat eggs, chicken, tuna, some cooked veggies, and only tonight had shrimp. I'm worried that I don't get enough protein in during the day. I can only eat about 4 or 5 bites before being full, anymore makes me past the point. I don't drink water afterwards for an hour at least, and I've been working a lot harder to get water in during the day. Has anyone had this issue or worry a month out? HW - 230 SW - 215 CW- 195 GW - 130 Height 5'5"
  19. Alright, So today i had a pretty depressed day because i miss chewing or eating a bit. Craving a lot of old foods but I'm strong enough too just say no. I'm sure its normal. I'm going to try scrambled eggs tomorrow and see how it goes down my body heals really quick i have no pain what so ever and when i went to the doctor he said everything is defiantly working. I have 2 questions, would it be realistic to want my favorite meal by Christmas day which is Chicken Parm? Obviously it would be in low amounts but even just a little bit of it would help a lot in the whole can't really eat deal. My other question is i seem to really dislike the shakes to the point where for the past week all i have had was water and apple juice and one protein shake. It has nothing to do with being full i just don't have the taste buds for it any suggestions?

    Weight Loss Goals?

I hope to lose 10 lbs a month after that first month. I am about 8 weeks out and my losing pattern is changing from that "I'm losing a pound a day" that happens the first month after surgery - to drop 2 and then hang out at that weight for 4-5 days, drop again etc. Stair steps. I would be happy with 8-12 lbs - actually I am happy with losing anything haha!

15 lbs gain after surgery ?

You had an IV. Each pint of liquid they pump into weighs approximately 1 pound. The bags are 1 liter, which is bigger than a quart, so over 2 pounds. You had many bags of fluid - which you haven't had a chance to get rid of yet. Your body is in shock - it didn't like being cut on - and is retaining fluids because of it. The previous poster is right - stay off the scale for a few days. Just remember what you weighed before surgery, and then maybe a week afterwards.

    Big Nsv!!!

I was banded last Thursday by Dr. Alldredge and I must report the 1st NSV (Non-Scale Victory): I am officially off of caffeine! I have been a Caffeine addict since I was a young child. I have not had a sip of soda, nor will I succomb to my worst vice!! I began to wean myself a week ago, then had my last drink on Weds. night. Headache from hell!!!! Thank goodness for the liquid drugs on Thursday thru Sat. I have been taking 500mg of Tylenol twice a day since. I feel great! My band will be my tool to rise above it all!!!!! Good luck to all of the rest of you!!!

    Birth control AFTER surgery...

My dr makes her patients stop any kind of hormone pills, birth control and estrogen/progesterone a few weeks before surgery. I think also because they cause blood clots. I used to take birth control because of my PCOS but have not resumed after surgery because I now have a period on my own. My husband is fixed so I don't have to worry about getting preggers.
