I Want To Tell Everybody About The Band!!
M0Mof3NC replied to puppyphat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Grandma is like the only "skinny" one in the family and every time I saw her it was like she had to tell me I looked 5 or 10 lbs heavier. One day I wore a dress and my 4 year old asked me if I was a princess, I was flattered even though I knew I didn't look anything like a princess. Next day I wore a shirt and shorts and my son asked me if I was a princess. He grabbed the corner of my shirt and said "No, you're a cow" and even though he's 4 and completely has no idea how that relates to weight or size, it was just the fact that the shirt was black and white that he said that but it really hurt my feelings. I looked in the mirror crying that night just thinking he was right and I had to do something. I'd tried all kinds of diets, phentermine, and was even walking 5 miles a day and the smallest I could get was still a size 16/18 at 203 lbs. I'd now crept up to 230 so I started looking into lapband. I discussed it with my husband who I expected to shoot me down but he was all for it if it made me happy so I was banded on 6/21. This past Wednesday I saw a friend of mine I hadn't seen in about 6 weeks and she noticed--my first NSV! When she asked what I was doing I told her LAPBAND. I don't want to push it on anyone but if they ask I'm more than willing to share! -
Good, Bad, Ugly And Te-Riffing About The Vsg!?
Pookeyism replied to Vixkey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are soooo many positives that I do think we fail to mention the lesser times, or stress the harder parts you will have to deal with. When you have an NSV (non-scale victory) - which you will have in abundance, these are the best times! They are great - you will have your own but they range from smaller sizes, to sittingin booths, no extenders in car seats, buying regular boots and more...I recently took my first full acro yoga "play" - google it! I never thought that could be me. There are times that are not so easy, when you need to draw away, or compliments are too overwhelming, or you have to deal with not having your fatsuit anymore - with the help of a friend (a real counselor but my unofficial one) that my reluctance to go shopping, while it seems to be a consistent thing (I disliked shoppong before, too - not a real girly type) is not really...I disliked shopping before because the plus-sized girl shops didnt carry te clothing I liked, and the mens big and tall was cut too long, and as I lost weight and still genuinely didnt want to shop I told myself "see? You really just dislike shopping!" - but not so, I realize most of it at this point is that I can't "see" myself as the size I am, and it is doing a number on my head to buy clothing I cant imagine wearing. I went into Old Navy and bought a medium dress and a size 12 dress...that makes 14-12 sizes I have lost in 18 months, most in the last 6 months. You will have head hunger, and you may need to learn to identify or at least question if you are experiencing passive-aggressive tendencies in people around you. You will (probably - most of us did) have to learn to say "NO" to people more often, we gave so much, and hid our insecurities inside - now we need to still be good, try to maintain nice, but still say no when needed. No, no drive through. No, it is not okay to keep that food in the house. No, lets not meet up there, there is nothing healthy there. No, I don't want to sit with you on the couch, I want US to take a walk...that sort of thing.. Wow, I could write a book, lol - I have been thinking about this stuff a lot lately... -
nsv today....got on a treadmill and for the first time, had to set the weight lower than the programmed 150 pounds!!!!

YES YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT NSV. THANKS FOR REMINDING ME. I HAVE BEEN SO STRICT AND SEE THE RESULTS I HAD. ONLY WANTING THE BEST FOR EVERY ONE. THANKS AGAIN...HUGS. I KNOW SHE IS ON THE RIGHT TRACK... I HAVE A FRIEND WHO I HOOKED UP FROM FACE BOOK. SHE WAS A HS FRIEND IN 1965. WE AGREED TO LOSE WITH TOGETHER 2 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS AGO. SHE WAS A FORMALLY OBESE GAL WHO HAD GASTRIC BY PASS AND LOST 140 LBS THEN SHE GOT WEAK. AND GAINED 60. OUR AGREEMENT WORKED FOR ME BUT SHE GAINED ANOTHER 20. THIS WHOLE THING FRUSTRATED THE CRAP OUT OF ME. THIS IS A NEVER ENDING PILE OF CRAP. SHE IS ALWAYS ON AND THEN OFF. I WANT TO THROW UP AND I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT GETTING STUCK. I WANT SO MUCH FOR EVERY ONE .

Nsv Prior To Wls? Heck Yeah!
jorsea replied to Slenderella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, since you asked....I went to buy some summer clothes today and I managed a size 12...can you believe it. I have gone from a 24-12 on my own before WLS. I have worked hard but never imagined a size 12 in a million years. So I could not leave the store without the purchase. Thanks my NSV and I thank you for letting me share. Congrats on your NSV. -
That's great! Good for you. And I love how you listed all of your things...SV...NSV...fears, etc. made me think about a few things for myself. I am scheduled to go on July 12, and am excited to get started on this journey. I hope my recovery goes as smoothly as your seems to be.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you guys an update. I was sleeved on 6/18 and my weight was 246. My average before that was 255. First few days where very hard! By the end of the week was feeling great. Second week my head hunger was getting the best of me. I even cheated and ate 4 fries. I felt no restrictions and it did not make me sick. I was more ashamed of losing control than anything else. I have started WLS Group and I am hoping to start therapy to help with my food addiction. My incisions are hardly visible! They don't even have scabs on them anymore :s I never got nausea or vomited and have been able to eat whatever I put in my mouth. Well, 3 oz of it at least. Now am on pureed foods and that is going great. My favorite thing to eat is chicken breast from a can pureed with my husbands awesome salsa. For the 4th my family made me ribs in a crock pot so that the meat was tender. That was so good and satisfying. I continue to take all my Vitamins (Calcium 1500 mg a day, a multi, Iron, and b12 sub (all from Bariatric Advantage)) every day. I also take Carafate 4xs a day. I drink between 50-70 oz of Water every day. I know I am not dehydrated because my pee is light. Oh I also take something for acid reflex but not sure the name. I have no symptoms of acid rflx. I do not drink Protein drinks because my nut/case manger/surgeon said that it is not necessary but I am thinking I want to try some.. I have read a lot about Premier from costco, I think I will try those. SV (or scale victory): I now weigh 225 lbs NSV: I had to retire one ring finger because it fell off. My clothes are fitting too big My face is thinner and I no longer get sun glass imprints on my cheeks I don't think about food all day a lot energy My hubby cannot keep his hands off me... hehe! No longer take meds for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol I can cross my legs when I sit My knees don't hurt when I sit down to use the bathroom (btw bm's are normal) My fears: tearing my sleeve not being successful at weight loss my food addiction What I am looking forward to: riding my bike... I want to do this so bad but I have not been cleared yet a new wardrobe running a marathon living longer going on a cruise and wearing short shorts! What I do to feel normal: I go to mc donalds every morning and order a decaf coffee I got to restaurants and stick to Soups If you guys have any questions, please ask! Thanks for reading. Veronica

So, today is the day I get to report my first NSV, and I haven't even had my surgery yet!! Yes, I'm gunna brag and I know y'all will love listening. I am pre-op, and I have been giving up some of my vices over the last few weeks in preparation for starting my liquid diet on 7/23. I am an emotional eater, I turn to food when I need comfort. Today was very challenging emotionally, and I did not turn to food for comfort! As bad as I wanted the ice cream, diet coke, doughnuts, candy, fried cheese and taquitos that I passed in the grocery store with my broken heart, I sassed my big ol booty right by that junk and left without buying any. Take that bad day! That is an NSV, right? Anyone else have NSV that happened pre-op? Happy losing, Slenderella

1. Having my shoulder strap on my purse actually stay on my shoulder. 2. Being able to pull my jeans up and down without unbuttoning or unzipping. 3. Crossing my legs like a lady instead of a lumberjack. 4. Officially having only 1 backroll instead of 2. 5. No more boobie bulge and almost bursting button on my blouses. Try saying that 5 times fast... 6. Having to wear a belt with my uniform pants and having several coworkers tell me I need to get new uniforms because mine were just "too big" Some times it's just the little things that make life seem so much brighter.

Sh*t I've Learned From This Board!
Giselle3264 replied to chicagochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned the value of NSVs. Sometiimes the scales refuse to show how much progress we're making but there are other ways to see we're headed in the right direction. Too tight pants that are now too big or a compliment from an unexpected source. #3 is where I've failed before so I've already bought my serving containers to freeze meals that I can then pop into the microwave later in the week. -
Great job - congrats! Those are perfectly legitimate NSV's in my opinion. WooHoo for you! Keep up the great work!
-
These are great NSV's. Congrats to you!!!

I fit in the booth at a restaurant where I never fit before I dropped something in my car today by my feet and was able to reach it My tight pants are becoming lose I was able to play street hockey with my husband for a few minutes... And run to get the ball... Granted I sucked at it but it's something that would have made me run out of breath before I feel like I may want to join a local sports team one day I was able to watch my husband eat pizza and not be too jealous... My confidence is up A guy at work today said I'm looking sleek!!! I ate half a banana and got full And for a scale victory... I'm under 300!!!

What The Do's & Dont's Of A Lap Band?
SageTracey replied to IamBeauti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is so much information out there about living with the lapband and some of it is contradictory. Take advantage of the advice you will get on here but remember that your medical team should be your primary source of information. With that disclaimer in place.... Eat slowly Chew lots Take very small bites Follow your doctor's dietary rules both pre-op and post-op. They are there for a reason Just because you can eat something, (anything, everything!) doesn't mean that you should Experiment to learn what foods you can tolerate. It is different for everyone. For me, I can't eat red meats and most breads. Plan to exercise. Not only will it aid your weight loss, it also becomes fun! Have a real life champion. My husband is my biggest cheer leader and my hero. Without him by my side, on my side, I doubt I could have been as successful as I have. Plan on making this a lifelong journey. It's not an overnight fix. It's not always easy but it is definitely worth it. Look out for, enjoy and Celebrate NSVs (Non-scale Victories) Stay in touch with your medical team. Follow up visits are a major key to your long term success. Good luck! -
June 2012 Sleevers Post Op Check In
Gene1970 replied to robin33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved on the 13th and doing great. Like Karen74 I was losing a couple pounds a day up front but that has slowed as I expected it would. I'm still losing although slower which is fine for me. I know i'm dropping weight and that's what's important. I didn't gain 2lbs a day so I don't expect to keep up that pace in losing it. Between pre-op and post op I'm down 46lbs which is a ton more than I could have done on my own in this period of time. I'm seeing plenty of NSV's and couldn't be happier. -
Morgan - get on the victoria's seceret list if you aren't already - about twice a year you get a free panty coupon, and more if you buy more (I buy for some friends here a bit). For the very first time EVER I will be getting the free panties for myself, rather than passing it onto a friend...my panty NSV!

Nsv- I Came Home After Nearly Two Weeks Of Traveling And Have To Clean Out My Closet... Nothing Fits!
Ms skinniness replied to traceyinflorida's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I use to have a ton of cloths in my closet, now have have very few. All are new and I love them. I like having a smaller closet and I intend on keeping my ward robe small. It's so much easier to find what I want to wear, and I still get bored with what I have. CONGRATS on the huge NSV! -
Nsv- I Came Home After Nearly Two Weeks Of Traveling And Have To Clean Out My Closet... Nothing Fits!
traceyinflorida posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well here is a first EVER for me. I am one month post-op. I have always had a closet full of clothes that do not fit, because they have become too tight on me. I keep them anyway, for the day that I finally lost weight. Of course prior to surgery, I never saw that day. I was down to just a few outfits that fit comfortably. A couple weeks post surgery, I had to put those original clothes that fit into the give away pile and my wardrobe was starting to open up to me again. While on a two week trip, I noticed that the clothes I had brought were getting progressively looser to the point of falling off. Some of those shorts and pants have been added to the give away pile. To my great surprise upon returning home, all of my clothes that had been too tight are now huge on me!! I have been doing a complete closet cleanout ever since! Fortunately a friend had given me some of her 18W pants and tops. I thought I would never see that size again. They now fit me!! Woo hoo! I guess I had better enjoy them while I can because at this rate, they may soon end up in the give away pile as well. Then who knows what I will wear, but it will be a good problem to have!! Woo hoo!! -
