    Post-Op Diets

I'm in the same boat. Literally. But, I'm sticking to it. Maybe, try some different protein shakes, or mix it with yogurt and truvia to give it some depth. Hang in there, we'll progress quickly. [emoji4] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. I cheated on my pre op diet by choosing different forms of protein. Mine wasn't all liquid but allowed yogurt and SF pudding and popsicles. I don't like those things so once a day I had some chicken breast until about 3 days before surgery. I still followed the rest of the diet though. Homemade beef broth from a slow cooked beef roast saved me. It tasted good and was satisfying. I froze some for post op liquids. As long as you can put yourself back on track, don't beat yourself up. No one is perfect, though some people on here like to think they are. Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I had surgery 5/2. For week 5 I am on soft, ground, moist food. However I've had trouble advancing so I'm going very slow. At this stage I can have any ground meat, tuna/chicken/ ham salad, some fruits as long as they are moist. I can't start trying raw veggies until week 6. Right now my meal plan looks like this: Breakfast: premier protein shake Snack: Greek yogurt Lunch: protein soup Snack: a couple slices of cheese Dinner: half of a chicken sausage and 1/4 cup of potato I've had a hard time tolerated veggies so I haven't had much but try to get them in my soup. I'm looking forward to when I can have a salad with some grilled chicken on it but given how hard of a time I've had advancing, it may be a bit.

    Post-Op Diets

I'm on day 9 and only allowed cottage cheese, non fat plain yogurt, apple sauce, non fat milk, broth, protein shakes, eggs and fish. I don't have to blend anything. I stick with the plan and don't deviate. Starting to get bored of my food tho.

    Suggestions/tips

I had a lot of those cartons of creamed soup post-op, which I often added milk and unflavored protein powder to. I also used a lot of protein powder (both unflavored and sugar-free flavored varieties) and smooth greek yogurt. I bought oatmeal but discovered I could only stand the unsweetened stuff immediately post op, the normal stuff was WAYYYYY too sweet for me to tolerate. High protein milk (Fairlife in the USA, Natrel in Canada) was a great way to get in some more protein and a hundred or so more calories a day, as well as upping my fluids when water was weirdly awful to drink. I think I had some unsweetened applesauce, but not often. Basically my rule for myself was if it wasn't a source of protein, I didn't eat it those first couple weeks. There was just so little room in my tummy or will to eat, I needed to make every single bite "count". I think the biggest surprise was how much sweetened stuff in general disgusted me and tasted bad though. Pudding cups, popsicles, protein shakes, oatmeal... I had absolutely zero interest in sweet things. I lived off of savoury for at least a week before introducing limited amounts of sweeter foods. (AKA going from plain oatmeal to plain oatmeal with half a teaspoon of raspberry jam VS the high protein maple brown sugar oatmeal I'd been suggested to buy). I know some surgeons include baby food in their post-op diet plans, but I can't imagine myself eating that post-op. If it's not specifically recommended for you, I would like to say it really isn't required. I was kind of emotional and crotchety after surgery and was even resentful of the pureed soups, so I can only imagine how crabby I'd have been to be eating food meant for a baby LOL. Your mileage may vary on that one. I think my biggest piece of advice from one planner to another though... is DON'T OVERBUY. I was totally like "oh yeah I'm gonna stock up on all this stuff and it'll be perfect!" and then things I stocked up on... I ended up not wanting to eat and not liking. Stuff like said high protein oatmeal which I had always enjoyed before suddenly tasted terrible and now I was stuck with four stupid boxes of the stuff. Buy enough for a few days so you're not stuck with stuff your new belly/tastebuds aren't digging. Yes it means you're a little less prepared for the post-surgery apocalypse, but there's always online shopping and grocery delivery if you don't have enough of something. Post bariatric surgery is the one time I'd actually advocate "better to need it and not have it than have it and not need it". Also, I really looked forward to grocery shopping post op because it was a great way to get out of the house and do some limited walking
  6. Sweet! Mine seems a little different than most as well! Breakfast and lunch is protein shakes. Two protein snacks can be bars, yogurt, whatever, and dinner is 6oz meat with non start veggie!
  7. I had vsg on 3/31 and on surgery day was 227 today I am at 202 [emoji20] Sometimes I feel a little discouraged, but then remember everyone is different and everyones plan is different. My surgeons plan has us on soft foods within 2 day. Liquids are only in the hospital, I left the hospital eating greek yogurt, cottage cheese and stuff like that. The one thing I am hoping for is that since weight loss is slower but steady, maybe I wont lose much hair, lol. Just follow your dr's plan and let your tool do it's work. Just think in 6 months if you lose steadily you will be down at least 50 lbs. Dont sweat the stalls either, I had an almost 3 week stall about 9 days after surgery, that was a little torture on the mind, but it also passed. Good Luck on your journey!! Sugar Addiction

I am almost 6 months post op (sleeve) and the sugar cravings have finally returned, and with a vengeance! I have to make sure that I have healthy alternatives on hand, like: Jif Peanut Butter To Go cups, yogurt, fruit, sugar free popsicles, and carb smart chocolate pudding pops. I fight the urge for sweets almost daily, but I manage. I didn't go through surgery just to go back to where I was. Real Food

I cook a bunch of protein at once and generally have 2-4 choices in my fridge (chicken thighs, roast chicken, fish, seasoned ground turkey...) I also cook up batches of vegetables. At mealtime I mix and match based on my appetite or what gets me good variety. When eating out I choose a salad with protein, no dressing. My treats are plain yogurt with chopped apple, or a bowl of berries. Some nuts and seeds. Lots of different herbs and spices. Cheese in moderation.
  12. Hi all. I had my RNY on 4/24/17. Started back to work this week (fortunate to have been able to take as much time as I needed). This morning I am shaking and feeling very different. I had some yogurt for breakfast, but now I feel worse. What is up with the shaking? Anyone else have this?

    Advice Please

Yesterday was fine. I had a yogurt for breakfast and for lunch. My protein shakes and all my water. For dinner I had some low sodium finely shaved ham and a wedge of laughing cow cheese. Ate really slow and chewed until it was liquified. No problems. Thank you all for your advice 😊😊 TFIG.
  14. Sleeved May 24th. I wish I can drink shakes, for some reason I can't tolerate them so I'm stuck with clear protein isolate for now. My doctor also said no to Premier and no to greek yogurt, he's on the conservative side. Today my delivery came in to try another clear protein. I hope I like it....
  15. I am almost 2 months out. I had a band from 2008 until 2013... successful with it - lost 120 pounds and kept 100 off through out having it... then it just shut down- no slip or erosion - dr said scar tissue- took it out and well old habits crept back in. 4 years later~ sleeve...So my experience with the sleeve is that full is a completely different feeling and that restriction is an understatement- I can't eat more than 1/3 cup of anything- even slider foods... i average 400-500 calories a day - you have to chew everything! I stick to a low carb diet- so 2 months out my typical day is either a protein shake or 1 scrambled egg around 8 am, okios triple zero yogurt for my second meal around 11am, around 2 pm I may eat a boiled egg (deviled with mayo and mustard) around 4pm a tuna packet and around 8pm if I'm hungry- another protein drink or yogurt. Sometimes I will go through Chick-fil-A and get the 8 count grilled nuggets but can only eat 4... save the others for lunch the next day.... not sure if that helps- I am personally happy I did it. I can eat 1/8 of a slice of thin crust Red Barron pizza and stop! (I use to eat the whole thing) I am down 35 pounds from surgery and 45 pounds since starting the process again...
  16. Yeah cottage cheese, plain yogurt, and creamed soups added to everything that I could have with clear liquids. My discharge allowable foods is attached
  17. Today's eating was off. Wasn't hungry for the longest time. Had coffee, water. Finally ate 4 pistachios. Then I felt full??? Drank more water. I finally started getting hungry and had four pieces of cubed ham and turkey (not too bad) and one small bite of boiled egg (didn't sit well). That was nothing but I burped and that was it. By the time I left work, I grabbed a drinkable yogurt for the way home. Since, I had a total of six grain pretzels (more like cracker rolls?). These go down well, but I have to make sure I only eat them after I've had my protein. So, trial no error today, I'll only have them with a meal, not as a snack. And 1/2 muffin cup of ricotta bake (which I finally made). Almost sounds like I ate a lot, but it really wasn't anything. More like nibbles today. I'm going to focus on actual meals tomorrow. Hope everyone else is doing well!

    How to not be hungry

I got the surgery about 4 weeks ago, and Yes, you do feel hungry. Your mind plays tricks on you, telling you you want food but once you eat broth or a yogurt your hunger goes away plus you get full so quick. I have been doing well so far, but I do get hungry Ill snack on a cracker, or drink more water and I'm full. You will do fine, it's what we all want, to eat less now we have a tool that helps us do that.
  19. I am 5 weeks out and started soft veggies this week. But shrimp and catfish have been my go to meals when possible. Other than that yogurt, protein shakes and eggs!

    Breakfast ideas.

I eat Greek yogurt with granola every morning.
  21. Sullie06

    Breakfast ideas.

If it's a weekday I eat a greek yogurt for breakfast because I eat at work and that's the easiest option. Sometimes I add some granola for some starch as my NUT is big on getting starches in. On the weekend I usually go with Scrambled Eggs and Turkey Bacon, Cream of Wheat, Oatmeal, Special K Protein Cereal with Fairlife Milk, Sausage and Cheese on half an English muffin, Banana and PB Toast. I try and switch it up since it's Greek Yogurt M-F. Also I'm not afraid of carbs and starches but I do keep it in modification. Oh and once a month I eat a pancake with real maple syrup because it's my favorite food of all time. One pancake and I'm done now.

How to decide on best surgery

I try to avoid sugar free versions of trigger foods, too. After all, it triggers my eating - and I'm not going down that path again. I try to find substitutes that hit the right spots but aren't too closely related - like Greek yogurt when I'm thinking ice cream...(dairy, sweet, creamy - but not too closely related...)

    Not having success (pre op)

Thank you for your advice. This last week I have stayed on track by doing exactly that having healthy things ready to snack on like yogurt and deli meat and it seems to be working and I have actually lost a couple pounds! I spoke with my dietitian and she said it's normal to get hungry when your metabolism is starting to work correctly after so long with skipping meals and my body being in starvation mode. Thanks again [emoji4]

    Liquid diet breakdown

Pre-op is usually determined by your bmi. I had a 14day modified liquid diet, was able to have 3oz of Leah meat and 1/2 cup of veggies along with yogurt and SF pudding, and fruit cups. The diet is mainly to shrink the liver, Lewis only just do a better job. Sent from my Nexus 6 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Travel 5 Weeks Post-Op

@Redo2017 I traveled about 6 weeks post op last year for Thanksgiving. I was nervous about not having my soft proteins with me and readily available. I got a hotel with a mini fridge. When I arrived, I went to a nearby grocery store and bought yogurt, cheese and a few protein shakes. I find when traveling it's best to have these things available to you. Remember to eat regularly since you will be moderately active! Im sure there will be munchies around as there always is with vacations and kids: chips, drinks etc. Just be good to yourself and try your best to stick to your plan. At Thanksgiving the hosts I was with had bowls of Chex mix lying around, my weakness! I ate a small handful but didn't beat myself up over it. 95 percent of the time I was on track. Have fun and be prepared with your soft proteins. And definitely skip the alcohol, you're still healing and it would wreak havoc on your tummy. Good luck!
