My journey so far! Surg 10/23/12

Had my surgery 10/15 and your so right that the minimal pain and obstacles that your have to go thru don't amount to anything once you begin to feel free from the obesity.
  2. I went shopping last night for the first time since losing 30 pounds. For the first time in 10 years I could buy what I liked, and not just what fit. For the last 10 years I have been buying clothes if they fit (which was hardly ever), not if I like them....because if they fit, I LIKED THEM!!! I am also out of big girl clothes - officially can shop in the regular women's department - which as you may know increases the possibilities immensly. I am so glad I did this for myself...I just can't say enough about how great I feel. :confused1:

    The waiting game

Take a deep breath! I too had to go through all those hoops and for me it was 10 months and 3 weeks from beggining to end of the pre-qual. Hopefully yours will go much quicker but the hard part is just getting all those appointments in a timely manner!
  6. I am eating my eggs or Beans or whatever, one bite at a time, spacing out my bites about every 5-10 min. By the 2nd or 3rd bite, my food is cold. Is this just my reality now? Not complaining, just wondering if anyone has figured a better way.

    yoga/pilates?

LOL I know right? Crazy abs! LOL I aspire to have abs like that I think you nailed it on the head with me... I feel like I should be doing something more than just walking on a treadmill especially for 6-10 weeks. I mean it makes TOTAL sense why that long but... still ya know? Blackberry it looks like you do lifting & such... when did you start that? 6-10 week time span too?
  9. I was sleeved on the 22nd. I got up and walked around my apartment about 5-10 minutes every few hours. They suggested every hour but I was sleeping a lot those first few days. I slowly started working my way up and I walk about 15 minutes every two hours. Pain meds still make me a little sleepy so I rest periodically but I'm up and moving (dishes, cleaning, etc) whenever I can. I also go to the store with my boyfriend to walk around. I didn't really want to hang out with people either. It's trying to really focus on yourself. It's a little too much for me to make sure I'm drinking and walking while around others.

    Knot in chest?

I am starting on week 5 and I am using that feeling to let me know that I am eating or drinking too fast or am full. What I do when I get that feeling is wait 5 to 10 mins, if it does not go away then I am full and I stop eating, if it eases then I try another bite, but a smaller one or another drink. It can be hard in the beginning to get used to the new signals that our body is using to tell us to slow down. I still have issues with eating or drinking too fast. Luckily, I have not gotten sick, but I have been close a couple of times. Keep up the good work, you will figure out what your body is telling you!

What's your best post op advice?

It’s going to be hard. Very hard in fact. Make sure you absolutely want to do it. You will most likely have regrets shortly after surgery. You can’t know everything beforehand. You can only prepare so much. Having said that, if you really want to make a lifestyle change and can handle the mental battle, it will absolutely be worth it. I agree with the others, your journey will be unique. I’m only 10 weeks post op and it took me until about 2 weeks ago to stop regretting it. I just focused on day to day. I’m still never hungry, I have no desire to eat, I don’t get all my protein in each day but I’ve learned how to create a routine. As mentioned, everybody is unique. I think it’s important for people considering this to know that it’s not easy. It might be the hardest thing you’ll ever do. At least mentally. But as they say, the things most worth achieving are also the most difficult. Good luck should you choose this surgery.
  13. Yep. I had lost 10 pounds during the 2 week preop diet and when I got home 2 days after surgery, I had regained that 10 pounds. It took me 4 days to get it off.
  14. I have Cigna as well. My surgery is scheduled for May 22. I didn't have to provide my weight for the last 5 years, only all the diets I have tried in that time frame. I think they look more at your weight during the doctor supervised diet. They want you to have lost some during that 6 months time frame. I think they want to see a 10% loss. If you have any comorbidities, it is easier to get approved with a BMI of less than 40. By the way, I was denied twice before they finally approved it, so don't give up! Good luck!

    Vegetarian Recipes

I was banded on 8/23/10. I started out as a meat eater but had such trouble getting any kind of meat down. I decided to go veg for this and other reasons. I've been a vegetarian for about 6 months now and I'm a little limited on recipes. Anyone know of any band friendly recipes that are also vegetarian friendly?

    5/27/09 Fancy Pants

BG I just sold all my size 22/24 on ebay as you start getting smaller list them in lots I got almost a hundred bucks for 15 shirts and 79.00 for 10 pairs of pants then use the money to shop!! That bottom picture is the funniest thing I have ever seen!
  17. I am about 10 weeks post op. Lost about 46 lbs, stalls are a very realistic part of my journey so I've quit weighing myself. I made myself a 'fitness bucket list' which were several exercise related achievements. One of them was to climb this local mountain that I've seen others climb throughout the years but have never physically felt able to. So yesterday my BFF (who is a personal trainer ) came with me while I climbed to the top. It was so tough but I never stopped till I reached the top. What a great feeling and even better workout!! Here's a few pics.

    First fill in two weeks

I have a surgery date of 10/2 and I can imagine being in the same position and feeling the same way. I will be frustrated as well. Everyone says the slower it comes off, the longer it will stay off....but I want it to come off faster!! I am trying to lose weight now as you did, before the surgery, so we'll see. Increasin exercise may help- but the truth is, it is just hard. BUT WE CAN DO THIS!!! GOOD LUCK! BEV
  19. -34 lbs. My surgeon told me that 10% of total body weight is normal for the first month.
  20. HI, Has any one had stomach flu after your Gastric Sleeve? I ask because I came down with the Stomach flu on 10/26 and I am still dealing with painful cramps and Diarrhea. I ended up in the emergency room for dehydration and pain. They ct scanned and my sleeve was fine. Hydrated me up and sent me home with medicine for the cramps. Anytime a eat anything it goes straight through me. I have had stomach flu be for and it was no where near as bad as this. I am really not getting much support from my surgent on this either. I went and seen my regular doctor and same, Stomach Flu. Seems odd that I have had it for 1 week now. I'm I being overly concerned? Is this normal? I have been stressing out over this because I have lost 4 lb in one week, because everything just runs through me. Any help would be greatly appriciated Thank you!
  21. Re: Food getting stuck "causing and chest and upper back to hurt" I was banded dec. 10 2007 and I have really lost motivation I am going to start back over on the shakes at the beginning to the year. Just about the only thing I can eat is patato for bake patatos with turkey (ground) that work really well for me. I know I don't suppose to have the patato but does anyone have any suggestions on what to eat?:embaressed_smile: __________________ :cursing:

    3 weeks out from surgery

I am 3 weeks out and feeling a little lost. I haven't lost any weight in about 10 days but I am only eating fish and veggies for b-fast cottage cheese and fruit. The Dr. wanted me to stay on protein shakes for as long as possible but I felt like I was feeling weak from not having any food. I think that I am feeling a little depressed too! I can sleep all the time. Today I went walking on the beach and I think that helped. It has taken me a while to get my energy back. I thought that I would bounce right back after surgery and that did not happen!! This week my goal is incorp. walking 2 miles a day.
