Time for some new NSV's!
ReDbEaN replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awww those are great NSV's!! Congratulations -
Yikes. I couldn't disagree more. I think you underestimate it's unfilled potential. Left on my own, I'm a pitiful weight loser. This is one of the things I have learned being banded. I still need some some kind of plan and structure. Loose structure, but rules, nonetheless. My band is what makes it possible to keep at it through the "falls off the wagon", through stress-eating, through eating for the hell of it, whatever. My band helps me to maintain some semblance of consistency with eating less food all around. Just less. It's a Diet mind that keeps me on track with good food choices. Some shun the Diet mentality, but it works for me when I think around my screwed-up brain. I have to shift gears all the time, but shift them I will, as long as I see pounds falling off, inches falling off, NSV's galore. So, I happen to be fully supportive of whatever Diet keeps you meeting your goals until that fine day when you can/are willing to get a port. Step 1 would be a food journal. Start by simply writing it all down. (yeah, I know) then you can look and see just what your problem areas are. (yeah, I know, you already know). I can't suggest from here. Each time I think of something, I know you have all the reasons already lined up as to why it would be a)a waste of time b)a waste of money c)it won't work. Because I have a bit of you in me...stuff like that makes me mad and I get mad and blow it. Screw it. I'm eating Cheetoes, damnit. So, since this Diet thing you are searching for is just a phase anyway, why waste your time and energy and money? Just eat better, eat less, exercise more. Even with an unfilled band, it IS possible. In the end, it's what we all do anyway. Do yourself a favor and skip to the last step and use your band, however useless you think it is. I really do adore you, ya know

Have been married 22 years. For a while when I was at my highest weight, my rings were too snug and then when I bit gw, they were way too loose. I mentioned to my daughter that one of my acquaintances had her rings resized after wls. She talked to my husband... My husband surprised me with resized rings that actually fit. I've dropped two ring sizes!

This May Sound Silly But....

Ha ha, I remember the first time I looked down in the shower and saw my own feet, I cried like a baby. Just one of many great NSV's you will experience in the coming months, enjoy them! Sent from my iPad using VST -
TWO NSV's accomplished at the same time. 1. I got a bra from Victoria's Secret and it FITS! (BTW, the stores only go to a 38DD, but the online catalog goes to a 40DD. I got one from a store!) 2. My BFF and I are sharing clothes again! I raided her closet while here on vacation with the promise to return it when it's too big! We haven't been able to share clothes in 10 years! Good luck, everyone!

A less than expected medical bill related to weight loss surgery is a qualified NSV. Congrats!

I know the NSV's of the airplane. It is a good feeling to be on a smaller commercial flight and not feel obliged and to discretely tell a stewardess that I will not be offended if they want to set me next to a child or really petite person. Your Mom must have been so proud. Try and remember how she looked when she saw you, and do everything you can to take pictures with her as you continue to loose. Good luck.

Do You Tell Others About Your Goals?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The weight loss surgery journey is all about chasing and achieving goals for weight loss, healthy eating, new activities, and tons of other NSVs at every stage of the journey. When you set new goals, do you share them with other people? With whom? And do you update them on your progress so you can get support? Or do you prefer to keep your goals personal until you hit them so you can focus on the goal? -
Do You Tell Others About Your Goals?
tjstark replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Some but not all. There are ones that I will share with family/friends like wanting to run a 5K, and I've even asked them to help me think up some NSVs. There are others that I feel are too embarrassing/personal that I would keep to myself, I mean at least until it happens maybe. -
Got a new work shirt this morning coz the other one started to look like a dress! So now I'm 2xl instead of 3xl and the 2xl is still a bit baggy! :smile2:

Nsv Better Than The Last!

Awesome nsv! -
Karen, Thanks for the tuna fish idea! I'm still anxious about starting real food today - I've tried yogurt and baby food, but I'm trying tuna tonight. I'm also curious if you added mayo or other fixin's to it? And again - our stories are matching up! I took off most of my steri's today in a long glorious finally allowed bath. Congrats on the NSV - I've told my hubby about what an NSV is and he's being a doll about pointing mine out for me. I just took a pair of size 22 jeans (my skinny jeans unfortunately) out of the dryer and put them right on without even unbuttoning them. Yay for that!

Hi everyone, I'm a Pre-Bandster... and thank you soooo much for your thoughts and ideas, you guy's have taken a lot of the 'Scary unknown' feeling I had and changed my perspective, now I'm excited and trying to imagine what it will be like when I'm in your stage. Jax your husband sounds like mine with the pants story lol. and what on earth is a NSV? I've heard it a few times on this site and have no clue what it means!lol sorry I was wondering, how long was it before you started seeing the weight come off? I don't want to set too high of expectations... I'm trying to find out as much as posible! thanks!

Donna, that is a great NSV! I am so excited for you and know how good it feels to drop down a size. Congratulations!

I'm 6 wks + a few days post-VSG; 30 pounds down (including a week of stall). Last night for the first time, I went to a restaurant for a sit-down dinner. I usually ordered an appetizer, entree, wine and maybe a dessert. So this was different: 1) holding off on my Water to save room for my food; 2) passing up on ordering any wine/martini; 3) do I just get an appetizer, knowing that that amount is all I'd likely be able to eat?; 4) do I get the entree only? 5) do I tell the waitress why 'no' to this/'no' to that? I ended up only ordering an entree (which, early-bird included a soup; I picked the black bean soup). The Soup came in a rather large bowl containing maybe ~8-10 ounces. I had 3 spoonfuls and stopped. My "crabmeat-stuffed tilapia" with veggies and rice dinner came. The 'stuff' part was perfect: soft, tasty, could've had more. The fish--broiled--went down well and I ate a few pieces of the squash and the zucchini, plus I allowed a few grains of rice, but NOT even a fork full of rice. BUT, bottom line...I brought ~85 % of everything home. (And I DID tell the waitress, but really didn't have to.) Advice: Just order an appetizer, or be prepared to bring everything else home for munching later. Plus, instead of an $50-80 tab, it was $16.00--an "NSV." Any others with advice on this? Thanks.

When you get some or all the weight off? I am looking most forward to: 1. not "sizing" up everything to make sure I will fit or not break it due to my weight. Already feel better in a theater seat (nice NSV) 2. shopping in a regular stop department not the plus size section. 3. riding the rides at the amusement parks with my girls and husband. 4-100 oh ya I got a list but these are my favs, anyone else.
