    First Fill Tomorrow!

I had my first fill on 6/1/2010. The Doctor numbed the area first and the fill only took about 10 minutes under fluroscopy and only some slight pressure felt. He filled my 14cc band with 9cc of saline. I was pretty shocked that he put in 9cc for my first fill. I'm not able to get too much down as per I get a lot of cramping after just a few bites of food or a few sips of liquid. Is 9cc too much for a first fill?
  5. I can truly say that I am nervous and going threw a lot of mixed emotions. I had my second consult with my doctor and decided to get the sleeve surgery date is 8/15/ 2012 . I hope everything goes threw I'm trying to have it before my kids go back to school so I can relax . I have already scheduled all of my appointments so my insurance will cover my procedure. Well first thing my Dr. Ask me to do was one of the hardest was to quit smoking .Its been five days now I didn't go cold turkey but I'm using an electric cigarette which helps with the cravings I've been a smoker for more than half my life that's 20 yrs smoking and I'm 33 go figure.. Slow Loser? Maybe not . . .

Good wake up call! I'm the same way. Had my surgery on 3/19, have lost 52 lbs and in a stall. Everyone else that I am friends with on this forum that had surgery the same day have outpaced me. I'm 6'0 and my weight loss show immediately - very lean do to distribution. I think that is the reason why it is slower. Plus, I'm perimenopausal too. Comparing is Madness! Great post!!!

How much is water weight loss?

Nope! It depends on how much you weigh, height, body type and what type of fat you're carrying. Inner body cavity fat is denser than fat carried around our waists, arms and legs. But you can probably count on losing 10-15 lbs of excess fluids the first 2 weeks.

    Ho Hum Tonight

I found out the same day Chad I'm shooting for a Sept 10 date. My hubby don't really doesn't understand either and I think he knows I'm going to do it regardless. This site has been sooooo helpful for me. Not so much for advice on what to eat- when etc as I will follow doctors orders to the T. But it's about the journey itself. Congratulations on your approval- be proud and excited! You've reached the next step
  11. Hello everyone! My surgeon asked me to do a sleep study and so I did, which indicated that I needed to use a CPAP. fine. Prior, I was hardly ever tired. I went to bed at 930-10 and woke at 630-7. I've been on the cpap for two nights. I've tolerated the mask well and worn it for more than 7 hours each night. But....for the last two days I've been exhausted. What gives? I thought this was supposed to help me feel better?!? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Bowel Resection and the Lapband

I am not a good example, as my body responds to trauma by retaining Water. My doc told me most people lose 10-15 pounds because they can't eat much - I was in hospital for 10 days and actually gained 30 pounds (all water retention in my legs). I didn't even start on any solid foods until day 9 in hospital. Today is exactly 7 weeks since surgery and I am still up about 3 pounds from surgery. My appetite was pretty non existent for about 2 weeks, then I had a few troubles with a fickle band, but I would say I have been back to normal appetite for about 2 weeks. If they are doing it as an open surgery, it is a big deal as they are cutting through muscle. The lap band surgery is nothing in comparison. The most important things are to follow your dr's instructions, control your pain and not doing anything abdominal for at least 6 weeks (i.e no vaccuming, don't lift more than 10 pounds). I think I did really well (except for the water retention) because I was very fit before I went into surgery. It is really important to be physically strong before the surgery, so you want to make sure you eat really well for as long as possible before surgery (you do not want to be nutritionally deprived in any way). If you are having trouble eating a nutritious diet (including fruits, vegetables and carbs), I would consider an unfill before surgery.

    Dr Horacio Guajardos?????

I just found this: Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Horacio Guajardo, M.D. He's only done 85 sleeves. That's not very much sleeve experience. There is a surgeon in TJ and she isn't very experienced either and her patients can eat an entire chicken breast 3 weeks after surgery, I'm 10 months out and I can't eat that much and my stomach has already stretched out. Can you imagine how much she'll be able to eat when hers has stretched? Experience means everything in the world with this procedure. I have NO clue if this surgeon is great or horrible. I've never heard of him before I read you post. He's in a safe location, that part is good. He states on his OH profile that he trained Dr. Rumbaut. I'd call Rumbaut's office and verify that. Rumbaut has farrrr more experience than this guy... it kinda doesn't add up. Just research and verify everything.

    When is your first fill?

I think I am ready for a fill because I am now starting to want to snack again, or is this just old behavior patterns popping up. The only time I feel like snacking is in the evening when my hubby and I are watching tv and he heads for the ice cream. I am 13 days post op and have lost about 19 lbs although the weight loss has now stopped since I started eating soft foods. I have had no real problems except the other day when I forgot myself and ate some crackers.........got my first experience of pbing!! Becky
  19. Hey y'all, long time no type. It's been six months since I had the vast majority of my stomach removed in a hospital in the Austrian countryside! The highlights: I've lost up to 60lbs (down to 253). Went from a tight size 26 to a size 20. Am fitter & more able to exercise than ever before, even the last time I was this weight. I've been on & off very sick (sinus/upper respiratory issues, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia -- all predate surgery, but I wish they'd improved more than they have) I'm worried I'll be stuck here forever Here's a little pic montage! All photos are post-op. I forgot to take pre-op photos (yes really!). In the first ones, I've lost about 20lbs already. Newest ones were yesterday in a fitting room for my new sz 20 jeans. I'm VERY excited about the size 20 jeans. But I'm also super frustrated This graph from the ticker factory kinda shows why: The lowest weight I reached was 250 on Dec 1. My weight shot up 6-8 lbs overnight one night, and fluctuates wildly 3-4lbs on any given day. On Monday, after a transatlantic flight, I weighed 260. Today, 256. Obviously this *can't* be fat. I mean, I don't always stay below 900 calories, but I surely haven't eaten 21,000 calories in a day or even a week or two weeks. And, as I keep trying to remind myself, 60lbs in just over 6 mos is a pretty good pace! But the weeks on end of no real, positive movement are getting to me. I struggle with exercise. I still have pain in the muscle areas under my incisions. I have back and hip problems due to an injury/genetic disorder. My ankles are screwed up from an injury, too. Some days, just 10 minutes of aerobics will leave me exhausted & unable to do anything else, not even think… that's a chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia thing. I take D-Ribose and magnesium, & they help, but don't solve the problem. And it seems like once a month, I get sick enough to require time off and antibiotics. Luckily I run my own biz, or I'd be sooo fired right now. Post-op, I'm definitely better off than I was. I'm definitely *fitter* than I was, in terms of how far/how long I can walk, how fast I can walk, stairs, etc. But it hasn't seemed to help my immune system at all -- and it certainly hasn't made the CFS/FM go away When I'm sick, I don't have the energy to be Super On The Ball Girl with what I eat. I don't eat fast food, and I don't binge… I feel so lucky that I never had an eating disorder, but I'm an "eat to live" girl and when I am so tired or ill, I just don't have the energy to be fussy. I'll eat whatever's easy… my ability to resist is low. It could be (part of) a sandwich or grilled chicken wrap, schnitzel (which is always breaded) or some chocolate. I feel like I'm still eating an appropriate *volume* -- when I weigh my food, I eat about 4 to 5 oz of Protein at a clip. Anyway, that's my rave / rant. I'm so thrilled to be in the size 20. But worried & anxious & frustrated that it's not a size 16, or even 18. And worried I'll be stuck here for ages, since I've been stuck here for over a month. Worried that I don't "have what it takes" & won't ever, not physically and not mentally, to be hard core about it, and that I'd have to be hard core to get much further than this. Blargh!! If you've got something to say that you think could help me, I'm all ears.
  20. I had my surgery last Wednesday 10/24. I was a little worried myself so I bought the suppositories (on Saturday) however I never used them. My hubby seems to think that since I've been taking in nothing but liquids there was nothing for me to push out! Well my first BM was yesterday (6days later) and it actually occurred while we were enduring hurricane sandy. (TMI I know) JBright

    Got my date 10-19-15

Best wishes to all having surgery this week. My date is 23/10. I am in Brisbane Australia. Last week I was excited and wishing time away, but since Friday the nerves have kicked in. I don't react well with anaesthesia, and I've been weaning off my antidepressants, so a bit of an emotional mess. My surgeon recommends fasting for 3 days post surgery, then scan to make certain no leaks before starting clear fluids. That doesn't really bother me, but I don't cope without my antidepressants. This has been adding to my anxiety. I having been on protein shakes for a week, but have eaten carbs on weekend. Emotional eating I am also a carer for my mum, and as I'll be in hospital for 4nights, I've needed to organise care & support for her. My husband is very supportive, but just finding I am emotional and irritated by everything this past week. It's good to read others thoughts on here & I wish everyone success.

    Another Surgery!??

Ever since I was banded on 10/26/12, I thought it was odd that I could see and feel my port. I was told that it is normal, especially since my abdominal area is on the smaller side. I went for my one month post-op appointment today and when the nurse practitioner examined my incision she told me that what I thought was my port is actually the tubing from my band that is protruding. She immediately called my doctor and I was told to wait until he got in so that he could examine me. My doctor examined me and confirmed that the tubing of my band is protruding against my skin. He told me that if he does not correct it soon, the tubing will wrap around itself, eventually negating all that has been done to this point. (I've lost 25 pounds and 2 sizes since I began my journey.) So needless to say, I have to go back under next week to have this corrected. I'm very frustrated because I developed a rash around my incisions when I was banded and that rash is just now clearing up. Has anyone else ever had this issue.
  24. Its bien 10 days since i got banded , n i am feeling less soure.. i wana go out n walk n stretch but im scared its to early..

    Should I call my doc?

Did you do the 2 days of liquids after the fill and give it a week and see how you feel I get the same feeling sometimes and I have to take a couple of REALLY SMALL SIPS after I eat but I give it 15 min I think that is the green zone I started losing again my last fill is Really letting me know not to eat to much at all I have 11 cc's in the 14 cc band and I am knowing when to stop cause I get the tightness in my chest and throat so I push it away and say I am done, cause my son made a comment a few weeks ago that I was becoming Anarexic cause I would over do just that last bite and end up having a bad stuck episode for 5-10 min, so I know now to Really stop.
