    So tired..any ideas

Don't worry, it won't last long. Your body is recovering and you are probably taking some strong pain meds right now too. Be patient and give your body at least a full week of rest before you start putting pressure on yourself to get back to 'normal'. Even though this surgery is laproscopic, it is still considered major surgery. If you set other people's expectations incorrectly that you would be back to normal sooner, then now is the time to let them know you were mistaken and you need to take at least a week off of work and/or any chores you normally do.

    Port swelling & pain

I have postd this question in a few other places but am not getting any responses so I broke down and came to the main board! I also tried to search old posts for it because I realize there must be some but it brings up hundreds of other posts. I am one week post-op and just returned to work yesterday. When i wake up in the morning I feel pretty good there is not much port pain at all, as the day goes on my port site gets pretty swollen and sore. It is not red or hot to the touch. It is just achey, swollen, and sore. I only made it to lunch time at work yesterday and then I was just too sore and tired to stay any longer. I called my Dr's office and they didnt seem to concerned with it, I am just wondering when this swelling and pain went away for the rest of you?
  3. I was considering purchasing Tony Horton's 10 minute training program and was wondering if anyone has tried it. If you gave tried it let me know your thoughts. I am on my treadmill 30 minutes 5 days a week, but if I could get a better result in 10 that would be great.

    Pain In The Leg

    No Alcohol

They didn't operate on your liver. Common sense says it shouldn't take any longer to heal then say, your kidneys unless you have an underlying liver condition. I would never recommend anyone to go against their surgeons orders but sounds like yours is very, very cautious. Every surgeon seems to have a different set of rules. Caffeine, no caffeine, carbonation, no carbonation, alcohol, no alcohol....the list goes on. My surgeon cleared me for anything except carbonation after 6 weeks. That said, I think we have to keep in mind that all the different surgeon's opinions come down to this: 1) Medical fact, 2) medical opinion, 3) serving the lowest common denominator and finally 4) covering their asses. I am of the opinion that we use our surgeon's orders along with our own common sense. We are the ones responsible for our success or lack there of at the end of the day.
  6. So I thought this would be a great place to put how I am feeling. Be warned it is a little bit of a rant for things that I still wish I could do or miss doing. I am currently about 6 weeks out and just wonder if this was the best decision. I did a lot of preperation mentally for this, but I don't think you can ever be quite ready for what you are in for. I know we are all pretty young on this forum and maybe you can relate. Lately I have had this feeling that I may have done this too early in life. I know that most people on here will say and have said that their only regret is not doing it sooner or they wish it had been avaliable to them at a younger age. However........ I am young. I make mistakes. I still want those silly uncontrollable nights. I want to have a drink or two or three with friends, I want to eat at night when i'm up studing for my final like other college kids, I want to eat pizza and not be a weird person who just pulls toppings off, I want to drink a BEER, I want to order a meal from the menu and eat it because as of now it looks like I just pushed things around with my fork, I want to be able to go to a buffet not to just stuff my face but to enjoy a variety of food, I want to try more than one bite of the few foods on my plate and not be stuffed to my eye balls, did I say I wanted a cold beer yet. I know, I know, I know that all of these things are probably reasons why I am here in the first place, but I was big before I knew I was bigger than those around me. I was big when I was a child and sometimes I feel like I am paying for a mistake that is not neccessarily all my fault. I know have this weird infatuation with watching other people eat. I still like to see good food being enjoyed, not just sit on my plate and go cold. Its weird, right? Am I the only one notices this. It's not in a weird way that I stare at people eating. Its just more I want others to enjoy their food even if I'm done and full doens't mean they have to be. Ok, I suppose I'm done with my rant. I feel much better now that I got it out. I hope others can relate. I know that I'm not alone in this and I am still very early on in the process. I still in my heart (which is more important to me than what my head thinks) know that this was the BEST decision for myself. I don't think I want, I know I don't want all those things I listed above combinded and multiplied by three more than I want to be THIN which may be oddly unhealthy thinking, but is true.

    new to this

I am so ready to get this surgery! I am looking at Jan or Feb but I am scared of it not working!!! I need to lose around 200 pounds I have heard all kinds of things about the first couple of weeks after surgery from my doc to stories on the internet and was wondering if you can tell how your experience went. I am also scared of how my skin will look and was wondering about that also.
  8. I had my first visit with my surgeon this week and I'm so excited to start my journey! Per my insurance requirements I have to lose 23lbs before they can schedule my surgery. Question is, should I be super restrictive and lose the wt as fast as I can or just slowly. Dr recommends doing it over 3 months. I'm just afraid I won't be able to!

    Losing my mind

I am getting so discouraged. I can't break this stall. I have been between 216 and 218 for TEN WEEKS. WTF?? WTF??? WTF?? I am exercising daily---10,000 steps even if I have to march before bed. I am eating about 1100 calories a day with my carbs around 100 and Protein around 100. I just don't have a clue what to do anymore...... I told my hubby I am tempted to do a liquid diet for a week but is that really the answer?? I am at 7.25cc and I am not hungry all the time but my body doesn't make me stop eating...I have to be mindful of every bite. I even am beginning to wonder if I should cut out dairy. I just want to cry.

    Anyone from New Jersey

I'm from Westchester County, NY and relatively close to NJ. Had surgery 19 days ago and a bit lost! My first adjustment is this week.
  11. Thanks for the help!! I got some samples from my daughter, and will try some more. One week from today is the big day.
  12. I'm 2 weeks post op and am feeling hungry a lot now. I know it's not head hunger. Then when I start to eat I hardly can take more than 3 bites. Is this normal at this stage? Sent from my iPhone using VST
  13. I woke up from surgery with horrible pain behind my sternum...probably gas. Between gas pain and nausea with dry heaves, it was not pleasant. Walking helped some with the pain but while out walking, any smell at all made me dry heave. Once I got home to my own bed and got a decent night's sleep, I improved each day. Day three was a turn around from bad to good. Just breathe through the pain and walk. You'll do great!!! Bring a mouth spray with you to moisten your mouth just in case. Even the ice chips made me nauseous. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 Was the pain at least bearable? I'm so glad to hear you're doing well now! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Remember it's different for everyone. I didn't experience pain aside from minimal pulling at the incisions. I was very nauseated until I asked them to take me off of the pain meds the next morning. Coming off of the Dilautid helped the nausea a LOT. Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App

    Funny How Things Work...

yes, I am hoping and praying for a similar time line. I have three appts between this week and next week. Then my 2nd meeting with the surgeon. At that point I hope I can get it to the insurance for a go ahead!
  18. Hi All I should be setting my date this week for the end of May with Dr Joya in Puerto Vallarta. I have researched until I do not know where else to look! I am totally comfortable with my choice in the doctor etc. My anxiety (honest, REAL anxiety) has just come in to play this weekend reading (and thinking about) the post op diet. Being the control freak I am (not as bad as I used to be) I will have no choice but to follow the liquid diet. This in turn has shown me my addiction to food and compulsive eating habits. HELLO!! I knew I loved food, am an emotional eater, and lazy. I just didnt realize my addiction until I became overwhelmed and anxious about the post op liquids. What advise do you have getting through the liquid stage? The preop will be just as bad (no solids) but Im not anxious about that, yet. Also the fact that Im taking out a loan to do this is a lil nerv racking. If I have complications I do nothave the money to go back to Mexico. I do have a fil doc line up but thats all she does is fills. Any suggections? By the way this forum is awesome. Yall are great! I am SO happy to have found YOU! gallbladder surgery tomorrow

Good luck I had my gallbladder out 4 weeks ago it's not to bad and it's great no more pain from those awful stones
  20. Went to the doctor today. I am 11 days post op. I lost 18 pounds since surgery and 45 since the start. He removed my bandages. And cleared for full liquids. If that goes will next week I can start puréed.
  21. Hi Lisa - I am feeling okay - still sore, but it gets a little better each day. I'm afraid I'm doing too much bending over. I did some laundry today and after getting things out of the dryer I just felt really weak and my abdomen was sore. I am also bored with the liquids. I am not even hungry, but I am trying to get in at least 2 Protein drinks per day. My doctor wants me to get at least 60 grams per day, and the two drinks almost covers that. Other items I've eaten are chicken broth, V-8 juice, tea and sugar-free Jello, popsicles, and fudgesicles. I go to the doctor on Wednesday also! It is strange - I am not hungry, but when I see commercials for Burger King, and other food items, I think wow that sounds so good. It's not that I want to eat it it just sounds good. That's the psychological aspect coming into play, I suppose. I don't know how my blood pressure has been affected yet, because I have been told to continue my daily medicine for that. Do you work and if so do you plan to go back the day after you see your doctor next week? -Rose Ann
  22. Hi Lisa - I have that same pain on my left side from the port! I've been worried that I've pulled something loose, but apparently that's how it's supposed to feel. The pain gets really sharp if I twist to my left or bend downward toward the left. I'll be glad when this goes away. As far as my diet - for two weeks I am allowed the following: juice, Jello, popsicles, broth, bouillon, fruit ices, coffee, tea (these were recommended for the first 2-3 days, then I could add "full" liquids like milk (skin or 1% - I drink 1%), vegetable juice, strained cream Soups, pudding (fat-free and sugar-free), diet ice cream and light yogurt. I am to continue with my Protein drinks twice per day until I'm on solid foods. I use the unjury Protein Drinks (not too bad - I can tolerate it). The only things I have actually eaten are jello, chicken broth, popsicles, sugar-free fudgesicles, vegetable juice and the protein drinks. I keep sipping on Water all day too. Yesterday was the first day that I actually felt hungry - my stomache actually growled. I'll be glad to get to the next stage which for me is mushy food, but at least I can have oatmeal, mashed potatoes (thin), and eggs. I called my boss this morning and I told her I go to the doc on the 13th, so I won't be back until at least the 14th. She was fine with that. I am off on the 15th, so if the doc gives me the okay, I may go ahead back on the 14th, and if I get weak, I'll just go home early. I truly am feeling weak - when I shower, by the time I finish I'm almost light=headed and have to hurry to my bed to lay down! I hope I can build my strength back up this week. -Rose Ann
  23. Tuesday morning is the big day and I'm Super Excited! I have so far lost 12lbs on the pre op diet so hopefully I'm on track! I'm on Vacation all week so I should have plenty of time to rest properly!

Welcome, Karen! I'm from Iowa! We are neighbors! I am new, too. I just found LapBandTalk last week, and now I'm addicted! It has been so helpful! I am almost done with my requirements for my insurance. I go for my psych. eval tomorrow, and then my doctor will submit to insurance. Keep up the diet and exercise program. It may be tough, but it's worth it! I feel the same about gastric bypass. The band is the way to go! Best of luck to you!!
  25. Okay. I've had my fourth fill for a couple of weeks now. Sometimes I can eat solid foods...sometimes I can't which is really aggrevating. Especially when i'm hungry and try to eat and then I can't. For example today for lunch. I got some chili. Had one bite of a piece of the meat and a bean and then pb'd for over an hour. I just don't get it. I'm not pms'ing so i'm not bloated. I wonder if stress affects the band? Or maybe the band just does what it wants to do. I'm glad i have it, but I would like to eat when i'm hungry. Know what i mean, guys?
