    Pre Op Diet

That's what I told my husband. You guys are awesome for sharing with me. I think I have made up my mind to give it a try at work. And WOW! Look at your weight loss! Congratulations! You have done great!
  3. I'm only 4 days in and am at a loss....I don't think broth has any nutritional value so why eat it? I am busting my brain to figure out how I can get in more protein and water. Oh, btw, I am missing meats & vegis! Any suggestions on a grocery list or recipes for this newbie?
  4. It is been 4 days without any loss and actually 1 pound gained. I am eating properly, increased my protein, drink a lot... I know it is the infamous 3rd week stall but it is still disapointing and frustrating. How do I get to break this stall faster?

I lost 43 during the whole process not within 14 days post opt! I starting working on my weight the day I left the consultation and from Sept 11 til Jan 31, 2013 I lost 43 lbs! To be honest I don't do pics because I have shared my decision to have the surgery with anyone but 1 close friend and my mother and sister! But I will email you my pics of the my weight loss prior to surgery and of course ill keep you updated with the weight loss pic after surgery but I don't believe I lost to much because its only been 4 days!

    serious problems

They did a cat scan and xray but they told me they had no clue what to look for since they weren't familiar with weight loss surgery. The local hospital here is terrible.it's nicknamed death valley because people go in with minor problems and end up dead. I just got off the phone with a nurse at the bariatric center where I had the surgery done and she is going to speak to the surgeons to see what they want me to do.

    wow am I stuck! help!!

Patience my dear, patience. The body is a wonderful thing and when calories are reduced so drastically it pulls a few tricks in order to preserve all the fat that it has so diligently packed away for years by slowing the metabolism and stopping other functions altogether - hair growth and some cell division for example. The body cannot STAY in this "starvation mode" forever or else organ shutdown and eventual death will occur. You are still eating and providing SOME nourishment so the body will eventually resume all it's functions and you will start losing again. Some people are lucky and this rarely happens, others seem to lose in fits and starts all the way through. Keep up what you're doing. I am of the firm opinion that there is nothing that you can do to "break" a stall, it just takes time and anything that we do to "break" the stall just happens to coincide with the time that it takes for the body to start to lose again. Don't get discouraged, just keep up the proper diet and exercise and you will start losing again.

    Please help!

Well, good job. What THAT means is that your stomach has recovered from surgery. After you get your lap band, you don't really experience THE lap band until you start getting restriction (through Adjustments, aka "fills"). SOOOO....where you're at is NOT bad--you SHOULDN'T feel different yet. Your doc will probably wait a certain amount of time, just to make sure you're all healed up, then you will start going back to her for your fills. You will continue to go in every month or couple of months until your level of restriction and weight loss gets to a "sweet spot"---or the point at which your food intake and weight loss are at an optimum level. The sweet spot is really determined by YOU, but your doctor helps you with it. Congratulations!!!

    please help

Hello~ Congrats on starting this process... however it can be long and drawn out. But also, super worth it. Do you have any insurance? Medicaid? Medicare? Alot of insurance plans now do cover weight loss surgery. Medicaid/Medicare do. You just have to follow their protocal. If not, could you get a loan? Also, have you looked into government trails. It may not be for lapband specifically but maybe the gastric sleeve. Good luck!

    Exercise Routine

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this forum and I am soooo happy I found it so I can ask a million questions. I'm 3 weeks post op. I really enjoy working out. I know they're limiting me to only 30 mins of cardio and I really hate that because I love strength training. My question is, what were your routines like around this time? Did you guys stick to the 30 mins cardio? Did anyone do more? Did it affect the weight loss if you did do more? Please help

    10 years post op?

Basically whatever you had to do to lose the weight is what you have to do forever in order to maintain. And while that is easy to do for a year or so, life still has its unpleasantries. Surgery does nothing more than make your stomach smaller.....It doesn't "fix" anything else. For many patients, they eventually default back to their old habits of coping. Its the long term psychological changes that help you to continue to Stay on track and maintain the weight loss. Uncovering why you got fat in the first place and modifying those behaviors is what you ultimately need to do. For me, 3 years of therapy and 5+ years support group was key.
  13. As a psychologist, I just have to comment that referring a person to counseling is not a negative thing and it does not mean that the evaluator thinks you're a lost cause or a failure. The fact is, we ALL know that our heads are as important in this as our stomachs, and for some people who are in a lot of additional stress (beyond the stress of the surgery itself), counseling could help you make sure that you succeed. That's what we all want, right? To succeed at this? Some people do get sent to a psych eval with someone who doesn't believe in WLS and that's horrible-- without a doubt. But a general referral that some therapy could help you with your weight loss journey is not a strike against you as a person, or a greedy attempt to make more money, or a statement that you're a horrible failure at life. It's a recommendation for an additional TOOL, just like the band is a tool. I go to all of the support groups I can get my hands on, and I have considered making an appt for some work on the "head" stuff that goes with drastically changing the way that I eat. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. Just something else to consider. . .
  14. Thanks! I was totally thinking the same thing, Plateauing right into surgery...but so far nope. It seems I go a few days fluctuating within 3 lbs of the same weight, then see a loss. This was seriously frustrating in the beginning, but I'm learning to accept my body's reactions and stop stressing over the numbers. I'm hoping & praying you get approved! Your head is obviously in the right place, so don't see why insurance wouldn't approve you!!!

    The Second Time Around

Wow...good for you! I can imagine it would take some time to be willing to try any sort of weight loss surgery again. I know it will go great, like you said...much safer now! Congrats on your bravery!

What Are You Looking Forward To?

Going to town functions like 4th of July, farmer's market, high school reunions, parades (I missed 20, 25, 30). Going to concerts & sporting events (the chairs too small). Not having to buy my clothes from Woman Within, Roaman's. Wearing a pair of jeans, shorts. My neck being longer again, and not having to wear my hair long to not look so old. I look great in Pixie's but my neck and face has been too big.
  17. If u are worried about no weight loss in two days you are going to be in a panic after surgery...rest and heal and don't worry about loss for awhile it take time to recover and get on the program its not instant....but it works
  18. Can anyone help me out i really appreciate it. Thanks
  19. Hi team I am just home from a brief pacific island holiday (scuba pics coming later!) and the holiday showed me an interesting thing about my eating. I am 3.5 months post op, and I gotta tell ya, it has been a dream run. Surgery, recovery, weight loss - all smooth and damned near effortless. I don’t really get hungry (a few days of that early but not since). I can eat pretty much most stuff I want, but have had a couple of dumping episodes from sugar and luckily I really don’t want it! I am on strictly three meals a day - I start with protein and am loving finding delicious protein treats - like the 6 thin slices of tuna carpaccio in the islands! Yum! Then I finish with greens, veggies, salad. Very happy, no serious temptations. I sort of miss my nemesis - potato crisps - but have discovered baked veggie crisps, and two or three beetroot crisps makes me crunch-satisfied on the odd occasion when I want crisps. So - off on this holiday, imagine my surprise to suddenly get real cravings. First - the airline club lounge - really wanted my old staple, chocolate coated shortbread with my coffee. Just noticed it and resisted. Then, had a hotel overnight before international flight - minibar yelled at me all bloody evening. Chocolate, crisps, chocolate almonds, cider, coke! And then, onto the flight, and the seat screen just kept shouting “Snack bar! Ooh, pringles. M&Ms. Do it, do it”. 3 hours of resisting - had a beerstick lunch - low carb, good protein... Anyway, I was just surprised at the “location” triggers for those old eating habits. Resisting was ok, but I realised that I will need willpower on an ongoing basis - I had sorta assumed I was in a more secure place re food temptations. The only answer, obviously: very very regular pacific island scuba diving holidays...

    Success Story #2

I am actually wondering if I am "done". Connie reminded me recently that the expectation for the sleeve is losing 60% of your excess weight. I knew the expectation, but hadn't thought about it recently. I did the math, and I AM at 60% loss. I'm not giving up yet, but that may well be the answer to my issue.
  21. Just a random thought and I haven't had the chance to ask my surgeon yet but has anyone had the depo shot and has had the surgery?? I know they say depo shot makes you gain weight so I'm just wondering or more so curious if you are on BC has it hindered your weight loss? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    psych eval -what to expect

Nothing to be concerned about, really,....they won't ask you about your fetish for fuzzy slippers or anything... BUT....the role they play is very, very important, and when I hear about these little 10 minute sessions, I get a little annoyed. They should be doing MORE. I think we all know that a LARGE part of weight loss/gain is a MIND GAME. Self discipline. Self Control. Comfort Eating....etc. It really does take a certain personality type for the Band (or any WLS) to be successful. And it's the job of the Psych to make sure that YOU are going to successfull at this, from an emotional standpoint. So, I would listen very carefully to any questions they ask, and answer very truthfully. Don't just try and "get through it" so you can go on to getting the Band. You WANT to be successful in this process, so make sure you let the Psych people do THEIR jobs to the best of their ability. And I would seriously consider signing on for some weekly therapy both pre and post surgery to help you adjust mentally to this program. Because, if your HEAD is not in the RIGHT place for this, it won't matter what kind of device you have wrapped around your stomach.....you'll still fail. Good luck! HH

    Slow weight loss

have you had any adjustments. - my loss seems to come and go.. also with up's and downs. but for the most part it's a downward slope.. the first few months post banding can be some of the hardest - till you find that "green Zone". hang in there.. and also keep in mind slow is so much better for your body i've lost 70 over the last year not where i want to be yet but so far my body/skin have had the chance to bounce back with me.

    Getting noticed

Yep, it's happening to me too. At first, I thought maybe it was in my head, but I guys are actually looking. 30 pounds down and much more to go, but it is nice that people are noticing the weight loss.

    Getting noticed

I'm getting a lot more attention as well. From strangers it's a nice compliment. I feel pretty and I enjoy the attention, mostly. However, I'm finding it a littler harder to deal with from friends I've known for years. Yes, it's nice to get noticed and I have worked hard, but my friends make such a fuss at times that it becomes embarrassing. Also, I'm the same person I've always been. I've always been outgoing and fun and I've always loved to laugh. I don't want to be the "girl who has lost a bunch of weight". I just want to be me, only improved. I know they are doing it because they are proud of me, but when we are all together they tend to tell people who don't know me my whole story. Why? Why does someone I just met need to know that I've lost x-amount of pounds? I'm not ashamed or embarrassed or anything, I just don't need to talk about it constantly. I don't want it to define me. It also causes some problems with my female friends and I totally understand. No one likes it rubbed in their faces especially if they need to loose a few pounds too. I never talk about my weight loss or anything related to it unless I'm asked because I know how hard it is. I would never want to make them feel bad. Some of my girlfriends are now saying stuff like "here comes skinny minny" or "I know you are all skinny now, but..." It hurts my feelings because I'm not trying to get attention, it just happens. The other thing is that I don't want to be "skinny". That's not what I'm trying to accomplish. I just want to be healthy. It doesn't matter to them that I still need to loose another 40 pounds either. They also allude to the fact that I've done it the "easy way". Never mind that I eat healthy and that I run almost every day. Sorry, sort of got off topic. It's just an issue that I've been thinking a lot about the last few weeks and I don't know what to do about it.
