Anyone take psych meds?
newmebithebypass replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I take currently 10 psych meds 4 during the day and about 8 at night some are repeats ok the only thing you have to worry about are things like extended release meds which if you work with your psych doc you can get switched to rapid release or a different med all together also enteric coated pills at first do not absorb as well so switch to something different then you can switch back several medications are in the same class and are just as effective because they have the same action mechanism in your brain for example if you take geodon you can switch to Latuda it is also a safer med should you get pregnant soon after surgery if you take lamotragine which is the generic for I think lamictal you can switch to trileptal things like klonipin have under the tongue doses for more effectiveness also seraquel can and should be swapped for trazadone the reason being seraquel has the latent weight gain possible night time eating and a chance to cause insulin resistance. If you need a sleeping agent try belsomra it works in a different area of the brain and you don’t sleep walk for migraines impulsive behavior and mood stabilizer topirimate or topamax is great it also helps with weight loss hope this helps btw my mil is a shrink so if you need advice pm me -
Has anyone suffered a second round of hair loss!? I had the classic first round between approx months 3-7...just as I thought I was going to be completely bald it stopped...new hairs started coming through and I cut my hair short and took a huge sigh of relief I had survived! Lol! Hair much thinner but starting to recover. Now, at almost 14 months out from surgery it seems to have started again I realise that when the hair loss stopped around month 7/8 it stopped completely, I really wasn't losing any hair at all - and I know a certain amount of shed is normal - and now it's started again with a vengeance. I'm pretty sure it's not just a normal amount and I can already see the affects, particularly at the front of my hairline where it was really bad last time. If it carries on for the months it did last time I'm afraid I really will end up bald! Does anyone have any experience of this at this point or further from surgery? I'm getting all my protein/water, taking my vits, recently had bloods done and all good there, and although I still have weight to lose its not coming off at the moment, bee stalled for about 6 weeks.

Hi, I've had the sleeve surgery about one year ago was weighing about 190 pounds & lost 40 pounds. Just love the feeling of not being over weight & more healthy. The past 6 months I've had chest pains only three times severe. When had the first pain went to the doctor, he checked me & said it was acid reflux. Today in church had to leave because of severe chest pain this pain comes from behind my heart to the front of the heart, not in my throat. The last time I ate was last night around 7:00 pm & had a snack around 9:00pm. This pain began around 9:30am this morning haven't eaten anything. The pain comes every 20 to 30 minutes but is getting milder. How can this be acid reflux when I haven't had food? I don't take the medicine for acid reflux because i don't have heart burn. I can't believe this is acid reflux.

Feeling frustrated and depressed
queenmab replied to queenmab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement! I am feeling better and more positive now and will keep following my program and hope that my weight will come off. It is a long journey and I know I cannot expect miracles. Plus, I am hypothyroid and I know that will make weight loss even harder even with this new tool. -

We are the same height. I was 385 - 400 when I had my lapband, and got down to about 210. After my pregnancy I was around 250, then with a slip up to about 275, then after removal gained to about 350. (sigh) I'm now in the 280s, striving to get to where you are now.

Dang fiddle, I typed a long response to this and the website crashed and lost it. Lets see if I can remember everything. Very interesting. I see alot of runners at races downing coffee pre race. But never post race. I suspect if they knew of this study they certainly would be drinking it by the camelbak full. I do have a couple of concerns. First is this experiment was done on highly trained triathletes. I dare say their physiology is different than most people here on the forum....especially their sugar burning capabilities. The increased blood glucose and insulin would worry me....being insulin resistant. Second, the amount of caffeine was extreme, and I wonder what affect that much caffeine would have over someone who is more caffeine sensitive....and on a regular basis (as opposed to the one time trial they did in that study). I am not terribly sensitive to caffeine but my wife is extremely sensitive. One cup of coffee in the afternoon will keep her up all night. I suspect if she took the amount of caffeine they discussed in the trial, and on a regular basis, she'd suffer from chronic lack of sleep which would likely lead to fatigue and possible increased hunger (doesn't fatigue make alot of us hungry?). I wonder if the fatigue and extra eating would negate any gains from the glycogen storage advantage. I have no idea, just thinking out loud and suggesting that maybe that study isn't completely definitive. Do you see crossfitters drinking coffee post workout? On another note, I had an interesting conversation with a guy the other day, who insisted runners could not run without carbs ....that we needed to intake and burn so many calories an hour. He also does crossfit and I asked him which burned more calories....an hour of running or an hour of crossfit. He said crossfit....to which I said "aren't most crossfitters eating paleo or something similar?" I thought I made a pretty good point.

Excited to be here. I have, off-and-on, read many posts from this site. My only concern is my slow weight loss; I have lost only 26 pounds in 1 month and 3 weeks; which I lost most of it on diet protein drinks. My first fill was last month and the surgeon put in 5cc; never told me if any was in, like some have had during surgery. Basically, I count all my calories and have staye at 900 approximately daily....except for like two days of going off the diet. Because I am self pay....it feels like I could have just gone on protein drinks and more liquids to lose what I have so far. Consequently, I am not convinced that this was the right decision. Any ideas for scar help???....my main one is ugly, three inches and spread out a little....still reddish looking. However, I FEEL blesse to be on a better path in life AND look forward to my future with Hope and happiness that I can finally run after my new grandkids! Love to all of you from Arizona!

Nikki and Shery Must be something about that 60 lb mark. I hit it about 4 weeks ago and came to a screeching halt as far as weight loss goes. I'm just a little out of control, but am finding it difficult to get back to eating like I should. I haven't had any fills as yet, but am thinking that one may be in my near term future.

Hi! I too need to get back with the program. As soon as I return from vacation, I am really going to have to do better. Great job on the weight loss!

I never thought I'd look forward to eating puréed food... I'm down 14 pounds in 8 days. My surgery weight was 195.2. My goal is 125-130. I'm so ready to get back into the gym. Going to start with swimming and water aerobics. Staples come out tomorrow. Ready to not feel so "malnourished" and so exhausted all the time... It's hard when you have young kids and have to rely on others to do so much for you. Blessed and thankful for helpful parents though. And an amazing husband

From what I understand my dr only submitted my initial weight and my last visit weight. I’d check with your surgeons office. If it’s the same for you it will set your mind at ease to know a little fluctuation is not going to derail you as long as that final weigh in is at or under goal

6 months out and completely lost
going2servive replied to sgaddarich's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's natural to have stalls and for weeks at a time. You should still be tracking food and calories. Look at that and see the change there. I'm 2 1/2 years out and only get an average of 1100 calories per day and 80 grams of protein. My weight goes up and down from day to day because the amount of water I drink. Yes u will get there just stay strong. As for dumping, the bad food make this happen so you might want to rethink what you are eating. -
Hi everyone! Does anyone know any good exercises to get rid of this unsightly muffin top I'm getting? I'm happy that I'm slowly losing weight, and my pants are fitting better. But it's getting harder and harder to find shirts that don't prominently display my developing muffin top. It's a little embarassing. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi: Just wondering does anybody here Zike? It's kind of between a bike and a scooter/stepper. I'm thinking about getting one but the weight limit is 200 and I'm slightly over. Maybe that will be just the incentive I need. If you've ridden one, please let me know how it was. Thanks. Sue

Help! Confused...what are my chances??
CarolD771 replied to kathyotto's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have the sleep study done. I didn't think I had sleep apnea but I had severe apnea. Also they won't tell you but you might have to put on weight. I know that's insane but you're 5-10 lbs. too light. The deposit might be re-embursed if you don't meet the requirements, but do make sure of that before you pay!! -
Congratulations on your incredible weight loss, and happy surgiversary! Why don't you mention it to your family and close friends? I agree with @@AngelaWilliamsMD that it is probably not on their radar. I would bet they will be very happy for you and will give you accolades for your hard work.

I’m having so many mixed thoughts swirling around my head. I hesitate to post this today. I am grateful for having gastric bypass to have the tool to combat metabolic disorders and inability to exercise due to disability (post exertional malaise) and I was at the point it was all or nothing. All my fight was getting me nowhere fast. I know I’ve come a long way, I’ve also paid a hefty price physically and am still dealing with many health challenges. But I also know my body could not carry the burden of all that weight. And I will do everything in my power to maintain the weight loss. i reached goal Sometime last month. I overshot it a little. Although based on my height of 5’ I’m within my goal range. I haven’t been actively trying to lose for a few weeks. I raised my calories somewhat but not drastically. I started out at 208lbs with a BMI of 40.6 and today am 102.4 and a BMI of 20. its Funny though, I write my weight on a calendar daily, and write Daily log of my weight, meals, calories and protein to Track and plan what I will eat the best I can based on what’s available in the fridge, freezer, pantry. I haven’t given solid thought to my progress, I’ve just taken it one moment at a time. My weight fluctuates slightly and that’s ok. Other things weigh on my mind though. I hesitate to call it a celebration when even my birthday this month went unmentioned and Covid-19 will be around for the foreseeable future. It’s not impacted my odd daily routines of living with lifelong chronic illness and disability. I’m homebound much of the time as is. It’s risky going to get groceries but a necessity. But It’s had more of an impact on healthcare. i Had an early one year follow up with my surgeon February 11 and discussed continuing severe pain and spasms in left side under ribs along with other symptoms along with my history of ulcers in the remnant stomach and small intestine, they said I needed a double balloon enteroscopy. But I had to see a different doctor for the test. I couldn’t get an appointment until March 12 to see that doctor, I asked if they could schedule the test since it takes a while but no I had to wait to see the doctor first, who of course ordered the test. Which was then scheduled for April 27. And what happened, of course no one called until the last minute and it was then canceled indefinitely. And I’m left in pain, I sent them a message and they tell me I could go to the ER to be evaluated. First of all how is that a good idea? And evaluated for what? That’s why I saw the doctor and he ordered the test (actually both doctors did) I’m at a loss as to what to do and meanwhile I’m just trying to move ahead. i don’t even want to discuss this. I’ve other health issues that I’ve been waiting months to deal with. My doctor gives me attitude. Even things are obviously a problem. I saw my general doctor February after waiting a few weeks. I had sudden severe pain just lightly touching the front of my throat. I had a thyroid ultrasound. I also saw an endocrinologist. I was supposed to go to the hospital for further tests. But this was cancelled indefinitely. I’ve also been having nosebleeds and I don’t know why ... but it’s all been put on hold and none of the doctors care to follow up. I have been making plans about having skin removal surgery. Since it’s the only thing I can manage to do right now. The excess sagging skin is very problematic especially my thighs. A thigh lift, and Having a Belt lipectomy/Butterfly lift to remove excess skin might also help benefit strengthening my core which I can’t do with exercise. I’ve been working on this with Hospital BC that is part of BariatricPal and they are so helpful in the process. I’m trying to think of it as a vacation in Mexico with benefits. I’ll need financing of course. I’m far away from rich. It’s a goal to have a body I haven’t as long as I can remember. I haven’t been this weight as long as I can remember either. I could never reach this goal on my own before even as hard as I tried with strict low carb and calorie counting. I only managed 124lbs and it didn’t stay there long. So taking that last step of getting rid of ugly sagging, rashy problematic skin feels like part of the journey to finish. A crazy thing in times like these. I’ll be pinching pennies as hard as I can. But part of me is determined. And also ... trying to ignore the rest. I had wanted to deal with the other health issues first but looks like that won’t happen so I’m going to try to roll with it and see what happens. maybe it’s dumb for me to write this. I don’t know anymore. I’m exhausted. But I think that I want others to know that if I can do this with my chronic illness and disability And despite how hard it has been for me ... that others can succeed and reach their weight loss goal.
