Hi, I want to know about hair loss, sagging skin. Your experience with the surgical center. How to look up support groups. Did you ever break your pre op diet and maybe have something you shouldn't have had? Tell me the pros/cons of life now compared to before. The success rate of this surgery (any credible sources-even yourself as an example is fine). That's about all i can think of right now. I'm going in on 4/11. Seattle, WA Dr. Landerholm.

How Did You Decide?
Liamlover2011 replied to Joy1961's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it was sleeve all the way. Haven't had it yet but the dr of the program at kaiser read of tons of statics for the 3 wls and the band has a high rate of removal and a 2d sugery. It has low weight loss in comparison and high regain stats. Sweden is one of the 1 countries to start this procedure and they are now at a 90% removal rate! Also kaiser did more removals last yr then placements of the band. So for me I was like heck no!! Sent from my iPhone using VST -
Sleeve Buddies---August 18th
Carrie replied to AniO's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is a few weeks out. I originally had the Lap Band back in 2005 and went from 297lbs at surgery down to the 160's. My husband and I had been married for 4 years at that time and we had our first child who had just turned 10 months old. About 6 months after I had my band put in my husband had his put in. He lost 20 pounds to this day. At this time we are both banded. I'm consistantly in the 220's and he is over 350lbs. He has promised me if I am successful and happy with this surgery he will follow me again and have the sleeve done. We didn't have any problems with me being "successful" with the band and especially with him not being successful. We have since had another baby, so we have two kids under the age of 5 and intead of weight loss, we are much more concerned about the health we have and our ability to provide our babies with a happy and active childhood. He loved me fat, he loved me thin, he loves me fat again. I think if your connection is more than just physical and at a deep enough level then it will last. I'm not a person who goes out, I have my babies at home and I have the rest of my life to go "out" but my babies won't be babies forever. That's just my experience with the weight loss and our relationship. I wish you guys the best. -
and keeps you from losing your hair.....eeek!

Out-Of-Control Eating While Deciding on WLS
VSGKirk replied to Andrew0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think my eating was pretty much all over the place when looking into WLS. When I finally made the decision to move forward, I had the opposite experience. I started eating much better and in smaller quantities to prepare myself. I didn't want there to be such a shock to my system pre-op and post-op. I called it "practicing" - I wanted to start to really pay attention to whether or not I was actually hungry or full or whatever. I know several others who did something similar and they are having fantastic losses post-op and feel great! -
I have not been on this sight in a long time. I just wanted to stop in and see how everyone is doing. I have done good with my weight loss, but honestly I thought It was going to be alot easier than what it has been. It has been a life changing journey, but one that I would do over again in a heart beat! Take Care, Carrie

Hey Bud, Don't get discouraged! You are less than two weeks post-op. I lost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet and gained back every ounce thanks to the intravenous fluids I had in the hospital. My husband said my tummy was the biggest he had ever seen it in the first days following surgery. You have had your entire abdomen traumatized, and your body is rushing resources to it to aid in healing. It no different from the swelling you have with a sprained ankle or busted lip. I don't know if you would do better with a scale or not. I personally know that I need one. I have done very well, but I don't lose every week, much less every day--even at the first. This is not a 50 yard dash, it is a marathon. And unless you are planning a vacation to Maui in a couple of weeks, there are no deadlines or "use by" dates for losing after surgery. You will get to eat real food before you know it. I remember being hungry while on the liquid stage and my Protein shakes were nauseating. I'm so glad to have that behind me. But I have been amazed that hunger is not really an issue for me. But, the caveat is that I didn't get to 280 lbs by eating because I was hungry. So even the lessening and hunger, while a great gift, does not solve all of my eating problems. Concentrate now on healing, resting, moving, drinking, and you will lose! But even better than the scale moving, you will begin to feel so much better. If you are like me, it takes a while for your clothes to show the loss because they were pretty tight to begin with. And those lumps and bumps didn't come on us overnight and they won't disappear overnight. I will pray for you and wish you well! You have taken the first big step in a long and wonderful journey, as have I.

A lot of times it takes people a while to get their weight loss going after surgery. Your body is freaked out and injured, plus you got pumped full of a ton of fluids in the hospital. Have patience, follow your plan, and the pounds will come off. Tip - don't be surprised if you start losing weight for about a week, and then pause again. It's completely normal to hit a minor plateau around the 3 - 4 week post surgery mark. Just keep pushing and the weight will come off.

Have had three fills thus far and feel a little restriction but not like I thought. I have good weight loss (59 pounds) but have to really work at it. Feel much better already. BP is normal and Cholesterol, too. So happy about that. Glad I found fellow banders to chat with. Hope to hear from some of you soon.!!!! Keep up the great work Bander08

Apollo Endosurgery, Inc. Announces the Presentation of ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon US Pivotal Trial Results at Digestive Disease Week 2015 Conferenc
Alex Brecher replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
These aren't the same Balloons that have been in use in Europe but in theory they work the same way. Balloons are a great tool for surgeons to use on patients that are affected by super morbid obesity. It allows them to shed a decent amount of weight prior to undergoing weight loss surgery. Balloon's could also be a great training tools for those that are overweight but have a low BMI and don't qualify for surgery. I am also VERY curious how many patients keep the weight off once the Balloon device is removed. Guess only time will tell. -

Went to see Dr. M today. Told him about my problems with anxiety and he adjusted my meds somewhat. He signed the form to allow for weight loss surgery. Only a couple more days until the consulatation. I wish that Heather was going first so that I would know what to expect. I'm scared and excited....I hope that this works and that I do medically ok. :faint::faint::faint::faint::faint::faint::faint::faint:

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this forum and I am soooo happy I found it so I can ask a million questions. I'm 3 weeks post op. I really enjoy working out. I know they're limiting me to only 30 mins of cardio and I really hate that because I love strength training. My question is, what were your routines like around this time? Did you guys stick to the 30 mins cardio? Did anyone do more? Did it affect the weight loss if you did do more? Please help

male only What do you consider your ideal pants size ?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in The Guys’ Room
I'm doing some quick research and would love some assistance from our guy members. What do you consider your ideal pants size after a successful weight loss surgery ? Please vote here. -
loose skin is a very individual thing depending on so many factors. Some people have a lot of it, others don't. It's hard to tell how yours is going to be. Like the above poster said, your age is a big advantage, but you're probably going to have at least some with a 100 lb loss. For most of us, though, it's pretty easy to hide. I knew mine was there, of course, as did my husband and doctor, but no one else did. Most of mine was in my abdomen, so I just tucked the skin into my jeans or leggings and wore slightly oversized, longish tops to cover it up. Ta da! Gone. I did finally get sick of looking at it, though, and had it removed, but I highly doubt anyone who sees me can tell a difference. Naked - yes - but with clothes on - no. I just want to add that a majority of pre-ops and early post-ops seem to be really obsessed with loose skin. I've worked with pre-op groups for the past two years and that question comes up EVERY TIME. I would also say that after losing all that weight, many of us (me too!) wonder why we wasted even one brain cell worrying about it. Losing a ton of the excess weight MAJORLY offsets the loose skin thing. I would take my loose skin any day over weighing 300+ lbs again. ANY DAY!!!! btw - here is a picture of me BEFORE I had plastic surgery. I lost over 200 lbs. See all that loose skin? I don't, either...

Frustration setting in...
sistasassy replied to hrtgoeson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sweetie, You are still in the recovery time. Some people do not lose weight at all during this time. Be patient and within a few months, you fills will increase and so will your weight loss. I would not be concerned for AT LEAST another month. -

This is stressful.
butterflypinup replied to Derouin4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. In this four year journey that has finally lead me to scheduling surgery I have been in two major relationships. Both men were not really on the train with me which didn't help me at all and I think actually helped me drop out of my program towards surgery twice. I am now single and doing this for me because it's what I want. I want to be a healthier happier me. I'm tired of aches and pains due to being over weight. I don't want my weight to hold me back any further and maybe regret it later and doing the what if game. What if I would have done surgery what if my life could have been so much fuller. Love is meant to endure. The only way a relationship wouldn't work is because it wasn't meant to. If your given what you need in a relationship then surgery won't change that. I myself am vain about my hair too and I'm almost positive that I will lose it. I have lost hair in the past with rapid weightloss but hey hair grows back and we shall gain so much for the price of a little bit of short term hairloss. I for one am ready! -
Weight loss requirement for California Anthem Blue Cross
kplumlee1205 replied to Bariatricpal71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Blue shield CA here. No required weight loss unless over 50 BMI but that my my Doctors requirement. I was approved first time around with 6 nutritional meetings and two visits with my doctors and 2 visits to my weight management dr that was focused on exercise, though we discussed it at nut appts. too. I have insluin dependent diabetes though and severe asthma so my comorbidies might be the reason for the 3 day approve. Surgery is 4/5! and I've lost 5 lbs since December. I can't gain... that was he only requirement the whole time for me with a low BMI . -
I have been using this site for a lot of my research throughout my decision process, and now that I am moving towards my surgery date. This has been my journey so far: Around Thanksgiving of 2016, i had made my final decision to pursue bariatric surgery. I had the support of my family and friends, and I was ready to go. I had a recommendation for a surgeon, and so I made my consult appointment. I had my first consult on December 6, 2016, and I brought every piece of medical information with me to that appointment that could possibly prove that I had met the insurance qualifications for approval. I left that appointment fairly certain that I would have my surgery some time in January 2017. On December 14, 2016, I had an appointment with my PCP for medical clearance, and I also had my psych evaluation that same day. They were both kind enough to provide me copies of my records right after the appointment so that I could give them immediately to my surgeon's nurse. Once they received all of those documents, along with the proof of following a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program, they scheduled my surgery date for January 17, 2017. YAY!! I had my Endoscopy done on December 20, 2016, and was cleared or surgery. At this point, I am scheduled on January 4, 2017 for a pre-op class that will explain pre and post op eating plans, and any other surgery prep items. I then have my last appointment with my surgeon on January 5, 2017 before my surgery. This whole process has moved so fast, which I am so excited about. At each step of the process I have been worrying that one piece or another would disqualify me from the insurance approving the coverage. My surgeon's office has assured me that I meet all of the qualifications, and there is no reason the insurance should deny me. At this point, I am just counting down the days to January 17, 2017. I am so excited that I have already started cleaning out my closet! Thanks to everyone on this site for sharing your journeys, and allowing all of us newbies to learn from you! I look forward to becoming an active member of this group.

Anyone heard of or taking "Actigall"?
giveyouthemoon replied to giveyouthemoon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, my drs give it to everyone. They do a ton of bands. I found a webpage on line that listed under "uses": "Actigall is also used to prevent gallstones in people on rapid-weight-loss diets." The lap band would qualify for that. -
Ok, I'm not whining or complaing I'm just asking... I had my first fill at the end of July and I haven't lost anything. Not even a smidgen of a pound. Just wondering if that's happened to anyone else or if I'm the lone non-loser out there? I have my second fill on Wednesday so we'll see how that goes. I'm just curious to see if anybody else is in the same situation. Inquiring minds want to know!

I had my surgery 4 months ago and am now losing my hair by the handfuls (or so it seems). I am scared to death I am going to lose all of it. I hope it stops soon or I won't have any hair left (I have very thin and fine hair as it is).
