Things I didn't think of after sleeve.
Sunnymommy replied to Ginie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As for Protien it's an ongoing struggle. I'm only 5 weeks out so solid Protien is still hard but I have a Protien shake morning and evening and Greek yogurt mid day. The rest I fill with veggies and try to keep carbs under 100g Lap band 2009 Sw 200/lw 161/cw 214 Sleeve revision booked 17 May -
I only started to feel restriction when I began to eat puréed chicken breast with mayo. Before that I could easily eat yogurt (entire container) drink water etc. restriction will come when you're eating denser proteins and such. Don't let it freak you out!

I'm late to the party, I had my surgery on the 14th too. Luckily I wasn't in too much pain. I came home on Thursday after having to drink the water, soup and two spoons of plain yogurt (the plain yogurt almost put me over the edge) but I came home and have been sipping my water. What is everyone eating?

I wanna know about carbs... Seriously!
Wendyfm replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm almost three years out and I eat between 90 to 150 grams of carbs a day, usually hovering around 100/110. That said it is mostly from fruit, veg, yogurt. I also eat some sort of whole grain English muffin every morning and I eat black beans fairly often and eat brown not white rice, sweet potatoes, etc. -
Keep up the good work, remember the more weight you lose the lower your surgery risk, its good motivation. I'm on day 5 and its been hard. I'm allowed a greek yogurt, low fat cheese stick, veggies/salad, sf popsicles, jello, and broth so those things are helping me to stay on track. "Better than bouillon" broth is very good and satisfies hunger really well. If you are going to cheat, just keep it healthy and focus on the goal. I'm down 5lbs in 5 days so its working! Can I have this?
VSG_Man_Vs_Food replied to Vsgneeded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are clear protein drinks like premier protein and isopure. "Better than Bouillon" broth is very good, and you can have sf jello and popsicles. On full liquids, strained soups and greek yogurts are good. A great combo is enchilada soup and some mashed avocado mixed with sour cream! My wife is 3 weeks out so I've been following along, my surgery is in 10 days. HW: 330 lb SW: TBD 6/27/2017 CW: 302 lb GW: 180 lb VSG, Dr. Jawad, Orlando, FL -
I am 14 months post-op (RNY) and I've never been able to digest meat with the exception of ground beef. I love fish of any kind and I tolerate chicken. Eggs no problem either but my go to protein is yogurt. Love my yogurt.

I was never a big water drinker, but since my surgery (2 days ago) I can't even tbink about drinking it. Crystal light is a little better. I think I'm going to talk to the visiting nurse about Powerade 0 tom. I am not drinking much at all. Broth, popsicles, yogurt, pudding all go in fine, but liquids...no way! I also read that ppl use gas x strips, I can't find them ANYWHERE, are the desolving ones ok? Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello WLS community! Hope you are all well! I am 5 weeks post op. My surgery was May 11. I am finally on stage 5 based on my surgeons instructions. But I have started to experience nausua again. On week 2 when I saw my surgeon she said it was because I wasn't drinking enough fluids. I fixed that and felt much better. Now I am experiencing it again. It started Tues. Maybe I was dehydrated Tues but now even though I keep drinking water I still am feeling the nausea. It has slowed down my eating and trying new foods. I wondered if my stomach was also not comfortable with my new foods I have been trying. Did anyone experience this specifically in week 5. Note I went back to just eatings eggs, some yogurt, and trying to consume a lot of water. trying my best here. Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks, -Joe M.

2 days post- op and I need help!!!
hmills653 replied to NAK8825's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 weeks post op also. Same thing. I can get maybe half that in 1 protein shake a day spilt up at different times. I eat a Greek yogurt every morning with my meds. Before surgery my PCP told me to watch yogurt because they're also high in carbs, anyone else told that? Then something soft for dinner like the other day my husband got me pintos and cheese from taco bell, I was able to eat almost the whole dish. I fell good though, I don't feel dehydrated and I'm urinating fine. I think some of us just taker longer to get to different points. WhenI left the hospital I could only dip my tongue in the med cup of water, it hurt to bad to swallow a sip. The 3rd day I forced myself to drink a sip every 5 minutes. And if I felt sick from it I'd take a break for an hour. I think you need to trust how you feel. If you feel like you're not getting enough fluids cal your doctor. Two ways... if I'm out with my husband and son I just order an extra plate and pick of their plates. I love that because I get a good variety to choose from. If I'm with others I'll order a meal and eat what I can and ask for a go box. Most people don't notice that you didn't each much unless you make it obvious. Lots of times I will pass some to my husbands like "here try this!" He doesn't have a weight problem so he is happy to oblige. If I have lots left over I eat it for lunch and dinner the next day. I have a teen-aged son so many times it never makes it that long:-) I never eat at fast food and will pass up an invitation that is offered. I only eat at restaurants that I am familiar with and have healthy options to choose from. Most people understand when we try to eat healthy and will step in line. If they don't, or they get snarky, then re-evaluate the friendship or embarrass the hell out of them by bringing a sack lunch to the eatery because they've chosen a place with no options:-) Yes, I've done that. My girlfriends wanted to go to Arby's for lunch even after my protests...I stopped at the grocery store, picked up a yogurt and sat with them while they ate crap...HA! Now that I'm down 40+ pounds they get it and have stepped in line:-)

Meat and chicken still hard to digest at 2 years post op. I prefer fish if having solid protein as other proteins can be so uncomfortable in stomach. I find I eat mainly vegetarian meals with protein as a side thing. I do have protein shakes and yogurt to keep protein levels up. I've read that many people eat protein and veggies as meals but I find that difficult to stick to as so uncomfortable and if I eat too much of anything it can lead to vomiting.

I'm not sure why peeps are told to drink so much water at beginning cause it's not possible...only sips of water. I couldn't drink a cup of water until after 1 year. Get your protein shakes in and yogurt and apple sauce don't worry about solid food until later. I food I lost about 10 to 12 pounds a month. It starts to add up. Don't worry about the solid food that will come but protein shakes and vitamins so important. I think the extra calcium and vit d helped with my weight loss and also walking. I started exercising on a mini trampoline after losing 50 pounds...5 months post op and that helped with firming and keeping metabolism going. Good luck!! Try not to worry bout the weight loss it will happen and only weigh yourself once a week

My diet is very similar to yours in the sense I have to do just the shakes and yogurt too; however I have to drink their shakes. I plan to drink premier after surgery. The banana flavor is pretty good! Want to try strawberry

I really dont measure but i have cut my portions tremendously. ive tried to put myself on a schedule, which is really hard. im not a "schedule" type person never have been. i know for this surgery its really important so i have been making a great effort to do so. an idea of what i eat in a day typically is the same most days except for sat/sun. i wake up and take metformin and test my sugars. depending on how tired i am i may get a coffee half decaf with 8 creams and 2 splendas but thats once in awhile. i usually now have a slimfast high protein shake mocha cappuccino and 2 hard boiled eggs with 55units of insulin. then like 3 hours later dannon light n fit greek yogurt, a little bit of fresh fruit and a v8 splash energy 8oz can. lunch is 3- 4 hours later with 55u insulin a sandwich no mayo with just turkey on a grainy bread of some sort or i do a salad if my stomach isnt bothering me. in between snacks and meals im drinking water. late afternoon snack is cottage cheese like 4-5 oz and a high protein bar with low carbs usually a luna bar. then dinner is a proten most of the time is chicken breast some veggies and occasionally a carb. the carb is about 1/2 cup if rice or pasta and 1 cup if mashed potatoes. im not much of a meat eater but ive been trying to push it. then 55units of insulin, my night time insulin and other medications i take. if i cant sleep then i have a small snack like sf jello pr apple sauce or some cheese slices or nothing and just drink water.

Hesitant on Diet choices
Nikki871112 replied to Nikki871112's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I do have to watch my blood sugar so I'm still in the habit of checking carbs first and foremost. I have been doing low carb for a while now so I think I will try to stick with that. I know it is really rough when you stop doing low carb and then try to get back to it! Not a huge fan of yogurt anyways so I'm okay passing that up. I opted for some low sodium tomato / red pepper soup (only half a serving for now). -
Hesitant on Diet choices
PatientEleventyBillion replied to Nikki871112's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early on healing is the focus. That's why they likely don't want you being terribly restrictive. But you did see with the yogurt the caveat of "low fat", which often is substituted with sugar or sodium or both. The liver converts those extra carbs (i.e. sugar) into fat anyways if you don't utilize the immediate energy it brings, so there's no escaping with gimmicks like "low fat". I had yogurt drinks early on that were 19g of sugar, just didn't have more than one or two a day. Once I was able to eat more protein dense food, I made sure not to touch stuff like yogurt drinks. Nothing that would digest quickly and have simple carbs, unless I needed the energy. -
Hi all, I was sleeved on June 9. My doctor requires Days 1-3 clear liquids and Days 4-14 full liquids. I'm close to my 64 oz liquid goals and about 40g of protein right now. In a day I usually have protein shake, several cups of bone broth (throughout the day), vitamin water zero, Protein2o clear protein drink, and water. My list of approved stuff includes cream soups, sf pudding, sf jello, and drinkable consistency yogurts. There are no restrictions listed as far as sugar content, carbs, sodium, fat, calories, etc. I guess in my mind I'm still thinking that way. My husband bought me some low fat yogurt smoothies at Trader Joe's which have 24g of sugar! I think I'm just wondering what's most important to pay attention to? I know I was told my protein shake should have less than 2g of sugar... does that go for everything else? Is low fat super important? I'm going to call my NUT in the morning but just wondering if anyone has any advice. TIA .

My doctor is placing me on meal replacement shakes (3x a day and I can eat 2 yogurts as long as they are under 200 calories). This is for 12 days and then clear liquids for the last two days. Double check with your doc office but then again every doc is diff!

I never experienced any problems with intake after the first week. I drink muscle milk once daily, then I consume Oikos yogurt, refried beans, pure protein bar, sometimes cream of wheat, sometimes sugar free fudgsicle, tuna, sweet potato....

How do you reach your fluid and protein goal?
Diana_in_Philly replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Pre-surgery, I was a water chugger, so sipping killed me the first week or so. You will find out very quickly if you take too big of a sip or drink - your stomach will let you know. I found I had to try water at different temperatures, but would make sure I was drinking at least one cup of water (8 ounces) per hour during the day. Sometimes warm, sometimes cold. Sometimes flavored. Sometimes plain. After about 3 weeks, I was able to drink normally again. To this day, I keep a water bottle at my desk - 24 ounces - I consume it completely twice during the course of the work day. That gets me to 48 of my 64 ounces without even trying! As for protein - when I was on liquids, I made sure I had 2-3 shakes a day - Premier protein shakes are 30g protein - so 2 of those met my goal. Now, it's protein first - I still have a shake in the morning - this morning's was 2 ounces strawberries, 2 ounces blueberries, cup of coconut milk and scoop of protein powder (under 200 calories and 25g. protein.) I shoot for 70-90 grams of protein a day. A 15 gram yogurt is up for the start of lunch in a bit - that will get me to 40 grams before I have any meat or cheese today! Write everything down and keep track. It helps. -

Glad to hear you're flowing now! I'm doing pretty good. Slow, but no pain. Just exhausted easily. I thunk im being overly cautious. Scared somwthing will start hurting. But im sooo hungry! This liquid diet isnt going to last long im afraid. I don't want to eat and mess anything up but I feel so hungry! And have since the minute I woke up from surgery. Everyone at the hospital just kept saying "ha! You're funny!" But I'm like, I'm hungry and I'm getting Hangry! But I've been good and only have done liquids and a little bit of Greek yogurt. Overall though, going well how about you? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Any June Sleevers!?!
dgeo1024 replied to Bodybysleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 4 of liquid only and it really has not been hard. I'm so surprised! Happily Surprised!! I drink a Premier protein shake for breakfast, have a Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt as a snack, drink another shake for lunch, and to be bad I might add 1 cup of Sugar Free jello!! (10 cals)!! Snack is the Yogurt again and dinner is another shake. After that if I feel like I'm hungry which I haven't been, I still have jello and water around!! I kind of like doing it this way. If I got to eat I may want to eat more meals that way... I have alot of friends praying for me...I totally believe in the power of prayer! -
Not loosing weight after one point !
Neossa replied to Neossa's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Catwoman7..this is such a valuable tips. I Thank you for this. Basically I am not at all sugar like person. I don't like sweet stuff...( I know its unusual most of the time I craving for a bit spicy and tangy food. that's it. but I can understand that heaving a yogurt in snacks is like you are increasing your protein intake. For me I can eat hard veggie easily. So I guess hummus and veggie is a great idea. Thank you
