  2. OMG ..... If it's the Depo Shot..... STOPPPPPPP!!!!!! Years ago they removed the IUD and started me on the Depo... I gained 50lbs in one month.... it was horrible. Look into the Nuvo Ring. It was the best Birth control EVER.... I tried it all, the Pill (nausea all the time), diaphragm (terrible bladder and yeast infections), Condoms with and without foam (latex-sensitive), IUD (terrible bleeding), the shot (major weight gain, but i didn't bleed), then the Ring. It was the only one that worked for me. Then in my 30ies i had a partial hysterectomy.... OMG it was like the heavens parted and the angels were singing.... At 50 i started menopause and it sucks Ass..... I started gaining weight and couldn't control it, no matter what i did. So i decided enough was enough and paid OOP for a revision to the sleeve. Note: All of the birth control was before i was banded in 2009 SW: 232 LW 143: Removal 2017 at 143. Sleeved 8/28/19 at 173.5, today 131.4

    Confused and Depressed

Me too. I’m still in the hospital and weighed myself 24 hours after my surgery. Up 2.5 kilos. Luckily I won’t have access to a scale until late next week so I don’t have to worry about that headgame. However, to the OP, having surgery doesn’t automatically kickstart everything into high gear all at once. If you look at the stats many people lose between 10-25 pounds the first month, depending on starting weight/BMI and surgery done. The scale may show little to no movement. But things are happening in your body. Even when I had stalls on after my first surgery, I was still losing weight, as I could feel it and see it in the way my clothes fit. I also had a ton more energy. Don’t just focus on the numbers on the scale, there are a lot of non-scale victories to look out for.

    Sleeve surgery/Back surgery

There is no way shedding a ton of weight is not going to help your back issues! Last week me and my two teanage boys were at the grocery store - I handed both my kids just half of what i lost 80 pounds of potatoes and ask them to carry them around the store, They could not do it. That is 4 20 bags and it wore them out after 10 minutes. Now to try and carry 7 20 pounds - That will not be good for the back - Bottom line less weight will help you back out

    February 2019 weight loss buds

It took me over two years to get my my sleeve surgery and during that time I started using a Fitbit and logging everything, exercise, food eaten and number of glasses of water a day. While jumping through all the hoops, crying in frustration and finally finding a PCP who would actually work with me, I managed to lose 35 pounds. At one my point, my doctor verified that I still wanted the surgery because I was doing so well on my own. on 8/21/19 I had my sleeve surgery and have lost 77 pounds since then. I went from a starting weight of 315, to 280 on the morning of my surgery. You lose so much weight so quickly from the four weeks of liquid diet before and after the surgery that when reality sets in and my weight loss stalls, I panic and think this is it, I am not going to lose any more weight. Tomorrow I see my surgeon for my six month follow up and I so wanted to be below 200 pounds but I have been stalled for the past two weeks. Tonight I was bemoaning my stall to my husband and he responded, “Knock it off. Even if you didn’t lose another pound, you have already lost one third of your body weight. Just stick with what you have been doing and you will keep losing weight.” What amazes me is how good everyone who posts pictures look. I can see my weight loss in my face, hands and feet, oh and my poor rear end but never in my stomach. I want to lose another 70 pounds but even if I don’t make that goal, I have grown used to exercising regularly, haven’t had a soda in iced six months and have absolutely no desire for one (I took a sip from my husband’s one day and nearly wretched it was so sweet) and I still faithfully use the food log on my Fitbit app. Two months after my surgery, I had an appointment with my primary doctor and I thought he was going to do a jug in the exam room because my blood pressure had come down so much. He also crowed about my BMI. According to my Fitbit app my heart health is now excellent. So, even if I never lose another pound, I have decided to listen to my hubby and be thankful for what I have accomplished but I will never stop trying to reach my goals.

    The Maintenance Thread

Hi gang, just wanted to jump in with my "maintenance" experience. I'm 10 yrs post in June. I hit my main lowest weight about 6mths post surgery and stayed close to there for the best part of the first 8 years. (I lost a bit after a break up, but I don't really count that!) I never went well under my goal so never had the conundrum some of you do of having to actively eat more to maintain, so I'm zero help there. However, I have gained recently (7kg total, I think that's about 16lb). Mostly the last six months, but up and down a bit the last year. I'm still not overweight, but I don't fit my clothes at all and that is an expensive nightmare you want to avoid! Anyway, I have hindsight and so have these points to share (which like all of this will hit home for some of you and be totally off for everyone else!): obvious, but bears repeating: try your best not to regain, it's a **** trying to lose it again (especially if, like me, you gain over 1000cal a day!) if you were ever a snacker, don't use extra meals or snacks to up your calories - eating too frequently has been my main downfall (procrastin-eating) don't push the boundaries of the guidlelines around bulky carbs/slider foods/larger meals etc to "just try them to see if you can". You'll be able to eat much more of them than you think and it's a slippery slope. Just stick to the rules which got you to goal. I had two points where my capacity to eat bigger serves changed, first around 2 years and then another jump at about 6/7, so please re-read #3! For those of you who feel a bit underweight and wanting to increase a bit, I'd suggest two options to avoid messing up your achievements long term. First option, don't do anything and leave it to the inevitable portion creep which will happen in a year or so. And don'y buy too many tiny clothes in the meantime ;) ; secondly, add a fatty cheat day/meal so the rest of your good habits are unchanged (I say fatty because sugary I think would be harder to keep in check). This option obviously means you'd need to be the sort to keep control of that, but it works for lots of people. Sorry for the novel - hope it's helpful, ask me anything :)

    Weight staul

So i had the gastric bypass on feb. 6th almost a month i have been stuck on my same weight for almost 2 weeks now i was on full liquid then i moved to puree then this past Saturday i moved to soft foods i have been doing good with soft foods. but is it normal to just stop losing weight for 2 weeks last time i went to the dr i was at the same weight as now and the nurse said don’t worry every one loses different and not to worry. my husband says he can see a difference and i can to but i guess i want to know did u stop losing and is this normal ive lost a total of 33 lbs from the time i started the 10 day liquid diet before surgery. But as of 2 weeks ago i havent lost anything not sure inches because i didn’t measure myself before
  17. at least 45 mins if left on the counter, or if in a pinch, 10 mins in a covered bowl of warm (not hot!) water. ...Mr. does it straight out of the fridge too, but he brings his pot to boil with the eggs already in them.... #soManyWaysToBoilAnEgg
  18. Maybe I’m crazy but I have one more week on protein shakes until I’m in the soft foods stage but I’m kinda freaking out because I have not had solid food for 10 days! What if it hurts to eat? What if my weight loss slows down? What if I DON’T feel full like I’m supposed to? Has anyone else experienced these thoughts? How was it for you when you could actually eat again?
  19. I was sleeved in Prague end of Oct. I travelled alone and found it to be the best thing I have done for myself, I have lost 3 and a half stone so far but stalled and feel I'm stuck even although I am losing inches there has been not much change in weight since christmas time, has anyone else had this problem over 4 months out all lost weight happened right at the beginning then weeks of a stall but inches lost still on a stall dont seem to be shifting much now worried that's it and I wont lose any more now .

    July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

I'm not sure how I'm doing. I am worried that eating is a lot easier. There was so much comfort in not being able to eat a lot -- now it's up to me and that word discipline. In April, 2019, I weighed 274. On surgery day, July 15, I weighed 261. Today I weigh 205. I have only lost five pounds in the last two months. No excuses, though. I think I was relying so much on my body not being able to handle more food/beverages that I didn't work on the discipline I need to get me through these times when eating is easier. I still eat only 1/2 a plate and I eat more in the early part of the day vs the evening. I guess I have to exercise a heck of a lot more than just 2 miles on a treadmill. Encouragement?
  21. I am 6 days post op and feeling better everyday. The surgery took longer than expected, and I spent 2 days recovering in the hospital. I have lost 10 lbs on the Stage 2 Full Liquids. Has anyone had any issues with keeping warm after surgery. I am normally warm blooded, but not so much since I got home. We live in the Pacific Northwest so the climate is relatively mild compared to the Midwest. I find myself turning up the thermostat and layering more clothes. I vaguely remember going through this when I had my Lap Band surgery in 2005. Also, my blood pressure is running higher than normal the past few days. It is not at crisis level, but is concerning long term. I have been in contact with my surgeon and his staff. We have walked through every key areas after surgery; protein, hydration; vitamins, supplements, exercise. I got an 'atta boy' but no answers. I will be tracking my BP until my follow-up appointment week. In the meantime, I have an appointment with PCP tomorrow. Anyone have a similar experience? My BP should be going down.

    The Maintenance Thread

with bypass, there's also the ending of malabsorption around the year 2 mark. also, once you gain weight it is REALLY tough to take it off, even after you return to your pre-gain habits. The difference between maintaining a weight of 140 vs a weight of 150 is about 50 calories a day. Which is like - a peach. Or half a Light & Fit yogurt. So if you do some heavy eating over the holidays and gain five pounds, you really have to go on a strict diet rather than just revert to the way you were eating before you gained the five pounds. Else at a 50-calorie deficit a day, it would take you 70 days to lose one pound. So almost a year to lose five pounds. The trick is to pretty much never let yourself gain weight. Yes - there are people who manage to defend their lowest weight, but an awful lot of us have "bounce back" weight... (it didn't seem to work this way when I weighed almost 400 lbs, but boy, it sure does now...) p.s. you are talking 15-20-30-40 lbs. I would say those last two numbers definitely ARE due to not being vigilant. But it is SUPER common to have a 10-20 lb bounce back after hitting your lowest weight. There are people who don't, but they seem to be in the minority.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday Tuesday, March 3 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr4mths PO Sleeve / 114.9 lbs ---------------------------------------- Bought a tub of mascarpone with the intention of making a peach pastry dish I had my eye on for a while, but me and the fam ended up just eating the batch of whipped-cream-mascarpone filling I made from the bowl all day (and night) long...it was sooooooo yum. Now I gotta go buy another tub (and this time I won't make the filling until AFTER the pastry is ready!) Also, I know I'm not totally healed yet, but I added a twice-around-the-block verrrrryyyy sllooooooooow run (a little over 1km) to my walk last night, and I didn't split anything open! Yay! I was all set and ready to go out again this AM for a longer, faster one, but Mr. convinced me otherwise. Boo . We did some squats instead. Double Boo. 🤬. ---------------------------------------- 7:00am - black coffee with stevia 11:00am - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + carrots + pickled beets + 3 oz pan fried chicken in bacon fat + 4 tbsp leftover beef pasta sauce 2:00pm - 1/2 cup greek yogurt + 4 oz fresh figs + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1/3 cup whipped-cream-mascarpone 5:00pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + carrots + 2 oz fresh figs + 1 oz white cheddar cheese + 3.5 oz pan fried chicken in bacon fat + 4 tbsp leftover beef pasta sauce 7:00pm - 1/2 banana sliced + 2/3 cup whipped-cream-mascarpone + 10 BBQ Pringles 11:30pm - 1/2 cup greek yogurt + 2.5 oz fresh figs + 1 oz blueberries + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1/3 cup whipped-cream-mascarpone + 2 squares dark chocolate --------------------------------------- Totals: 2625 cals - 159g Protein - 186g NET carbs - 125g fat ---------------------------------------

    The Maintenance Thread

I can just answer this for me (although I know a lot of people report that they start gaining weight during year 3), but I hit my lowest weight exactly two years after my surgery date (I just checked my Excel spreadsheet). I maintained there for about six months, and then it gradually started going up (admittedly, I needed to gain back about 10 lbs, because my weight had gotten way too low for me). I'm now up 20 lbs from my lowest weight and would like to lose 10 lbs....but it is a BEAR!!! When I weighed over 300 lbs I used to roll my eyes at these normal weight - or slightly overweight - women who moaned and groaned about how hard it was to lose 5 or 10 lbs. HA! I get it now!
  25. True - I got to a normal BMI, and my surgeon said I'm one of only about 10% of his patients who do. The medical literature seems to back that up - I've read anywhere from 10-15%. Makes sense since the average is 70% of excess weight lost. Those of us out on the far end of that statistical curve (either side of it) are going to be few...
