hi all! i'm new here as a registered user but i've been reading everyone's posts here for about a month now. i haven't been banded yet - actually i haven't even discussed it with my doctor. the idea of having the surgery is this really weird mix of emotions for me. i know it's a life-long journey and a tool to help me lose weight..but i've been morbidly obese for years now (and i'm three months shy of my 20th birthday)..so the idea of change is very scary. i want to be thin and healthy but i'm terrified of the process. however, i know that i won't ever do it on my own. i'll have to do something as drastic as surgery or i won't stick to it. i think it's more that i'm afraid to admit that i NEED the surgery...that i've actually let myself go that much. the idea of going to an amusement park and riding the rides, flying on a plane without having to ask for an extension, going to the beach without feeling completely self-conscious, or just going out to dinner without having people stare at me is something that i would love to have! so i guess what i'd like to know is: at what point do i stop researching and decide i actually know enough about it? also, even though i've done a ton of research i do still have some questions like how long did it take from the time you first discussed it with your doctor for you to be approved and scheduled for surgery? does it take months or is it a matter of a couple of weeks? days? sorry for the long post! any help is appreciated. also...has anyone here had the surgery in north carolina? thanks! brittany

I'm in Manchester. Yes, I know a couple people that had Dr. Papasavas and I've heard really good things about him (about both of them actually). Do you go to the support meetings at Hartford Hospital? I've gone to a couple of them so far and thought they were pretty good. I think there's one next week (maybe Tuesday night). You've done really well over the last 13 months! 150 lbs is AWESOME!! I have heard that the weight comes off easier in the first year and then starts to slow down. What are you doing for exercise? I have been walking but just recently started biking. There's a group called Healthy Gears that rides some of the bike trails in CT. I went this past weekend for the first time and rode with them in Farmington and went 6 miles! I think I'm going to try to keep that up, I'm more likely to stick with it if it's a group thing.

I was banded on 10/1 and I am already starving- I am starting on mushie food at the end of the week, so I hope it helps- I guess I thought there would be a feeling of more resistance with just the band-It sounds like I won't feel the benefit of the band until the first fill and until then, we just need to be careful- Is that what most of you do?? Please help!!

I am 3 weeks post op and have been using the patches! I love how easy it is. I just have to supplement with Vitamin B1. Having said that, I have not had my blood tests yet. I will know pretty soon whether it has been working!

After a week I started calling! If they have everything they need it shouldn't take a month. They have up until a month to process. I called on my own and found out before my surgeon called to set up the surgery date lol [emoji23] talk about antsy! [emoji16]

Semptember 20Th Sleevers?
beefalogal replied to gorjess907's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I hear you! I have slipped into some poor habits. Will get back to tracking my food at least for a start. My exercise needs to be more strenuous than the walking that I am doing. Lost 47 but have another 47 to go! I have not lost in at least 3 weeks. -
I am about 6 weeks and still find it extremely difficult to eat food. It's not that it doesn't go down ok, but I have no desire to eat and nothing really tastes good. Never in my life did I think food wouldn't taste good...lol. Just curious if this is a phase or does your taste buds really change and you don't enjoy things that use to. I am really struggling to get in my protein...I can only get about 40 grams in right now.

tstarkey704 replied to lealor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh gosh!! ???? how are you trying to quit? I have heard most surgeons won't do the procedure if you haven't quit for at least 6 weeks prior to surgery. -

I'm bipolar, had my surgery 5 weeks ago. I've had no problems with my meds or any relapses from surgery. I've had no problem losing weight either. I lost a bunch pre surgery and losing post op. -
Definitely. I think my biggest challenge has been to stay away from those bad slider foods. I have done really well, so far, staying away from them. I don’t buy them for the house, because if I do I—we, meaning my family and I—will eat them. However, in the past couple of weeks an old family friend has returned (she is like a sister to me, an aunt to my children) and she is constantly buying and bringing junk food to the house since her return. I have stalled since she has arrived because I find it difficult to stop myself from eating them. They are so addicting and unfulfilling. I finally—this morning as a matter of fact—gathered them all up and threw them in the trash and I called her and said, “DO NOT bring any more junk, please!” Other than that, it has been smooth sailing. I MAKE time to exercise, even if I have to get up at 4 a.m. I buy healthy foods, stay away from bad carbs. I don’t miss the old greasy, unhealthy foods. Usually, when I eat something unhealthy, it is planned and accounted for and I don’t feel guilty about eating it. Post-op is difficult for anyone. You have to adjust to the restriction and you have more restriction because of the swelling due to surgery, but it will soon pass. You will adjust. You will discover there is a new, healthier you underneath, and you will love it! I truly hope and wish you the best. You can message me anytime if you have questions.

I have good and (possibly) bad news. Bad news first - weight loss and hormone changes can actually increase your chance becoming pregnant. My gyno warned me of this because I'm on the pill and told me that I should use backup because with the weight loss and especially the hormonal changes, it was a higher possibility of becoming prego. Good news...the weight loss and hormonal changes can throw off your cycle. Mine was a month late and then came 2 weeks early for the next one. It came hard and heavy too but I was expecting it because of the surgery. So hopefully it's the good news, I've read about a lot of people being thrown off from the surgery and weight loss.

Wow. So I was 11 months out when I found out. 10 lbs from my goal of 136. Being sleeved and pregnant has been a challenge. My husband wanted another baby but I was skeptical. Since finding out I am pregnant I have fallen in love. I so happy and hope we are having another boy! I am 10 weeks now. Morning sickness has plagued me as always. Hoping to get back to the gym soon.

The problem with goal weights is that your idea of where you want to be and your body's idea of where it wants to be can be different. I very intentionally never set a goal weight and my surgical team never suggested one. I decided that I would follow my plan for however long it took until my body told me it was where it wanted to be. And that's exactly what happened. I lost 130 lbs in just under 14 months and then it just stopped. My body was where it wanted to be. Today, a year and a half later, I'm within three pounds of that point. I never experienced any regain, often referred to as "bounce back". Sounds to me like your body is where it wants to be. Listen to it, love it and live it!

You can try applesauce. I can't remember if I was cleared at four or six weeks for fruit (not blended), but once I was I NEVER looked back! I LOVE fruits and veggies now (still struggle with cooked and raw carrots). Definitely fruits and veggies are my go to. Only difference is now I take the skin off apples. So much easier to digest. Once you are given the ok you will love it! Good luck with it journey.

July Sleevers, August Sleevers, September Sleevers etc.
mentalistfan posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's my story...I wanted lap-band in 2010 and didn't even see a surgeon or go to a seminar because I basically "chicken out". I started the sleeve journey in March, thinking I had a six month supervised diet, then found out my insurance didn't require it. So, I thought I would be having surgery in July, then I had a delay, then I thought it would be August because my surgeon is super busy. Then, I got approved and was for sure thinking I could get it in September. Finally, today I talked to the insurance coordinator/scheduler, she told me it would probably be October because the surgeon is so busy, I was soooo disappointed...then she asked me what my BMI is, I told her, she said that on Tuesdays the surgeon does fairly easy cases early in the morning, only one surgery a day on Tuesdays and she would let me know next week if I will be sleeved on August 5 or 12. I was sooo excited at that news. But I have cried three times after finding out! I know I won't "chicken out" this time but wow, reality sets in, someone cheer me up! I guess I'm back into the August Sleevers posts again! LOL -
Every time I feel like I'm getting somewhere I somehow am not, I get a call from my surgeons office last week saying his notes are not detailed enough for my insurance. I thought everything was cool because it had been submitted two weeks ago, been going at this process since February of this year. I had to wait till today as I'm writing this waiting in the waiting room because of course my doctor is only in the office twice a week. I woke up Sunday morning and just cried saying "I don't wanna be like this anymore" my husband comforted me and we prayed together. I still feel like this process is so long I'm starting to lose patience and hope like am I gonna finally get that call saying I'm approved and my surgery date. Need some encouragement!

I am 3 weeks postop and following my doctors order on what I can and can not have but I am always afraid im eating to much like I had a 3inch cucumber with 2 thin slices of deli meat and I ate all of it, but I didn't have any pain in my tummy like I over did it . I guess my question is will you hurt if you over eat. I just don't want to stretch the pouch or do anything wrong . .. Thank you for all your input

I have no plans on telling anyone in the office. However, I have 4 weeks of vacation I can use.....good luck....

Hi, I need some advice. I have gotten through most of the process and will possibly have a definite surgery date within the next 1-2 weeks. My close co-workers know that I am having the surgery. The place doing my surgery is trying to work around the week of vacation I have already requested off and they are holding a date right now for me for the week before my vacation. My dilemma is how to tell my boss. I know I have no obligation to tell them what I am having done, but I'm afraid if I don't tell her she will hear it from one of my coworkers what I am having done. I'm just really nervous. I will have been at my job exactly a year the day I'm possibly scheduled for surgery. Can anyone tell me what u have told your bosses? Thanks!
