    So many Questions?!?

As BLERDgirl said, how long it takes between now and your surgery is up to your individual insurance company and your surgeon's program. I think the vast vast majority of the people on this site will tell you it is most definitely worth it! It is hard, that is for sure, but it will change your life for the better in so many ways that it is well worth the effort. You need to be ready to make some serious changes in the way you deal with food and the way you cope with you emotions. I would say the bulk of the hardship is in the first few months. Your pre-op diet will likely be miserable. In the first few weeks post-op, you will be dealing with pain and discomfort and constantly struggling to get in your fluids and Protein. Then you will have a big learning curve as you progress through the various food stages and learn what and how much your new stomach can handle. But by 4 months out, you will really have the hang of it for the most part and you will feel like a normal human being again and at that point you will start really feeling confident that you made a great decision and that you really can handle it for the rest of your life.
  3. Welcome to our club. We ALL have stalls, I think. It's hard to stay motivated, but please keep up your great work. This will pass and you'll drop again, and you'll stall, and you'll drop... Well, you get the picture!!!

Cant wait till my ex sees me

Hello, I havent been banded yet, BUT I know the situation about the your ex cheating. I am getting banded on the 24th of next month. My soon to be ex husband cheated on me. It hurt, and I JUST found out about getting my band date. I CANT WAIT until he sees me after surgery. The look on his face alone will be worth gold when he sees what he gave up simply to have not one, not two but THREE affairs on me. Yeah I only stayed because of the kids, but now that I am getting this surgery and will e losing this weight, Im sure God will put the right man in my life, that will love me for me, and love my kids possibly as his own. Let me know when you see him, and what the look on his face will be.. :tt2:

    Fill....too tight?

A new fill when you are at good restriction, feels like what you are describing. You need to stay on liquids for the recommended amount of time then gradually add mushies then regular food. Very small bites and lots of chewing. I know you have heard this before but right after a fill, is when you need to be extra careful about this. I have been at my sweet spot for about 2 months now, and in the beginning, I had times that I wondered if I was too tight. I just had to remember to take it very easy. You do need to be able to eat food though, once you are past liquids and mushies. If you are unable to eat real food, you will need a slight unfill. It should loosen up a bit in a couple, maybe three or four weeks. That is why I stuck it out. I knew if I got an unfill, I would be wanting more put in, in a very short time. It has been perfect so far. Keep in mind that if you make a mistake and end up throwing up, go back to liquids again for at least 6 or 7 hours. Otherwise you get a chain reaction going and end up losing all of your meals. Best of luck, keep us posted!!! Hugs!!!
  6. I finally have gotten some relief from the reflux today, but for the last 3-4 days I feel like my food takes forever to digest. I go o dink 30-45 min after I eat and end up throwing up bc I'm too full. WTH?? I'm 3.5 weeks out.

  8. My surgery sent me home with these. I'm almost three weeks out. I've been wearing them but they get tangled up and quit working in the middle of the night. Do you think I still need them? I'm walking over 2 miles a day. I've been back to work for a week. I would have thought the threat has passed?? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  9. As I said to hubby its the price of a new pair of good Joggers so I am willing to try it , especially its going to soon be winter/rainy and I won`t be able to bike ride (which I am LOVING) or walk which are the 2 excersizes I am doing at the moment... http://www.crazysales.com.au/genki-prof ... p1038.html I actually bought a pair of 18 jeans today will be trying them on tomorrow (my 20`s are getting rather baggy) :thumbup:too tired now and I am home all day Tuesdays so I might even go through my wardrobe (NOW that is a chore and a half..) Fatigue

I am almost four weeks out and am still tired. I am getting the fluids and the protein, for the most part, but still can't walk too far. I have been to the grocery store or to Costco but that is my BIg outing for the day. It might be my age---i'm 65. Pre op weight was 307. I have lost 24 pds (including pre op weight loss). I am on soft foods. I am afraid I will never get my energy back. any advice from someone farther down the road???

    Enjoying eating

I'm 6 mo out from lap band surgery and I'm finally in a comfortable green zone. I do have some fairly significant restriction from the time I wake up until dinner time. I have to follow the band rules carefully regarding slowly eating small bites, and chewing well, or else I'll be stuck. I've only had this level of restriction for about 6 weeks, so I'm still getting used to it (I'm getting better at it, but I'm trying to re-work decades of old habits). I was explaining the lap band to one of my close friends, and telling her about the requirement for eating carefully. She then asked a question that took me off guard - she asked if I enjoyed my food more now I was taking my time and eating slowly. It took me off guard (surprisingly!) because the first reaction in my head was no! I'm slightly paranoid when I eat, and when I chew I'm intently focused on the texture of the food in my mouth to make sure it is okay to swallow. Then I'm carefully paying attention to how it feels in my esophagus. Is it passing through the band? Is it building up? Can I take another bite? I told a white lie, and said I was enjoying food more, since it hadn't occurred to me that eating was a task to be completed carefully, not a leisurely experience. I'm suspecting that this is due to the fact that I'm still getting used to the band at this level of tightness. Hopefully as these new habits start to become second nature, I'll be able to focus more on the pleasure of the experience. It was an interesting wake-up call too, so that I can start paying attention to the enjoyment of eating, not just the mechanical process. I'm wondering if anyone else went through this transition. Thanks!

    Countdown to Wednesday!

I was feeling exactly what you are feeling one week ago today, I would think of my kids and what if something happened to me and just cry. I was also excited for a new chapter to begin and knew in the long run, this would help me be a better mom! My surgery went fine, recovery went well ( day 2 was rough but I survived) and today one week out I feel really good, every day I get better and better. The hardest part of taking care of my little ones is not being able to pick them up, but I sit down and have them climb on my lap to snuggle or sit on the floor to dress them. You will figure out what works best for you. Good luck, it is going to be ok!!!!

    Help

I had my first fill. Felt great, followed the rules the first 48 hrs nothing but liquids. It has been about a week. I don't know how to get over being overly paranoind about stretching or slipping of my band. I went to dinner with a girlfriend had two bread sticks about two bites of chicken breast and I felt like I may have gotten something stuck the feeling went away and it hurt just a little and I freaked out. Did not drink or eat the rest of the night. I am worried about not getting enough or eating to much, I have also found myslef not waiting two min between bites is there a possibly I have done something wrong. I was thinking about going back to my pre diet before surgery for a while two protein shakes and a salad for lunch. Any thoughts anyone else gone through this emotional roller coaster?

    Turned Down! :(

Cathy- since you would consider changing insurance companies, United Health Care covers weight loss surgery where there is a diagnosis of MO (with my plan, the diagnosis came in the consultation appt with the surgeon). It only took them 10 days to approve me, and my surgery is in two weeks (Sept 14). I really hope everything works out for you! I understand how it feels to be 100 lbs overweight, because I am too.

    Going from liquids to mushies...

HANG IN THERE you wild chickie you. You only have 5 more days! I drained chicken noodle Soup (well, strained it and gave the noodles to my husband) and had that. I also took split pea soup and blended the devil out of it (week 2) and had it. If you are on full liquids or "creamy" Soups you can do that. You'll make it; you've come too far now to fall over the line! For my mushies I ate refried Beans and cheese (OMG I thought I'd die) and some cheese enchiladas mashed to mush....things like that. Mashed potatoes. I blended spaghetti and soups and had them (not together LOL) I got a little mini food processor in a stunning pink and used it to mash up lots of things.

    First fill

I am just a few days over 4 weeks post op lapband. My band has been completely empty until yesterday and although it has been empty I still managed to loose 47 pounds all together starting at my pre op diet. My doctor put 2cc in my band and I still can eat the way I did before and I'm hungry every few hours so my question is....is this normal? I'm scared maybe my band isn't right since I have absolutely no restriction. Has anyone else experienced this? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

    Four Weeks out...What to eat?

The third week stall is very common, keep up your good work and the losing will happen again soon.
  21. When we are first getting started, we tend to shoot for high Protein numbers daily. For most of us, we aim for 60-100+ grams, and there seems to be an attitude that more is better. As we reach normal weights, do our protein requirements go down? I would assume yes but I'm not sure. The reason I ask is because I am in a 5-week (so far) stall that coincides with finding a Protein shake I like and finally reaching protein numbers over 60. I've been getting 90-100, which I felt was awesome and was totally going to make my weight loss better. Instead, I have stalled. I wonder if it is because I'm getting way more protein than my body needs at this lower weight, and I would be better off aiming for 60 again and skipping the daily protein shake. Disclaimer, I am in my first real stall at 8.5 months and I'm not particularly stressed about it. I understand stalls and I'm not worried that I am stuck here forever.

    heavy, increased, and extended activity

Hey Chris and welcome to VST. I can only answer with some general information. Most recovery time is around 6 weeks for most patients. Meaning you would definitely want to take 6 weeks off the mower. Your staple line will be healing, your incisions will be healing internally. You do not want a hernia, or infection or pulling/tugging on the lap sites. As for the eating and drinking, once you off the post-op diet, you should not have any major issues getting in plenty of Water. You may have to eat smaller meals more frequently as your stomach will not allow for large portions. Lots of dense Protein food will help sustain you, and healthy complex carbs for energy. If you continue to tone, and keep your muscle mass built up, you should not have an issue with lifting. You will need to be careful for several weeks after surgery, and ensure that you are 100% healed before doing any manual labor. Of course, these are just generalizations, and checking with your surgeon will give you the best answers to your specific lifestyle. As for the facility/doctor you are using, I'm not familiar with either. I'm a Texas girl, originally from the Dallas area, and have long term, near and dear friends in your neck of the woods, and in Houston. Keep us posted on your progress, and if you need anything, let us know ! ! !

    Hello...New to this Journey

Welcome to the lapband journey. I went to my first orientation meeting in October and by the end of December had finished jumping through all the hoops of clearances that both the bariatric program and/or my insurance required from me. I had a documented history of the weight with my doctor and weight watcher books showing I had been doing that for 6 months faithfully. Once they got the insurance submission in, it was back in about 2 weeks. Then it took 6 weeks to get on the surgery schedule. I had my surgery on March 17 and I've never regretted it. Still need to lose about another 60 lbs but its going slowly now. Mostly due to my own stubborness at wanting to eat 'easy' foods when I want comfort - even though I know better. The key for me is to keep trying and remember I never want to go back to where I was 140 lbs ago! Best wishes.
  25. I was sleeved on 12/22. So I'm about 3 1/2 months post op. I'm really struggling with abdominal muscle soreness. It's around my incisions and abs in general. At my 3 month post op appt my surgeon said some people experience soreness until 5-6 months. He recommended that I stop doing lunges and squats for 4-6 weeks as that engages the core and could be causing the soreness. It's so uncomfortable at night that I can hardly sleep. I get maybe 4-5 hours a night. I'm getting super frustrated. Has anyone else experienced this soreness? Any tips or advice? I was seeing great results in my legs/rear from doing the squats and lunges. I've completely stopped for 2 weeks now and I'm not noticing a difference in the soreness.
