My NSV .... It's been awhile!
kanaud replied to kanaud's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you @@proudgrammy I love seeing other people's NSV! They are always an inspiration and a push for me! -
To make a long story short- All my life I have been very overweight. Thanks to my band, I am smaller than I was at age 15. As a teenager and young adult, all I ever wanted was to be able to wear tall boots. I could never do so because my calves were always too big for them to even think about zipping.I had put off trying on any since losing weight for fear of disappointment. Plus, I don't see any difference in my calves and never measured them before. Well Tuesday I decided to try on some at Shoe Carnival. I tried on several and they all easily zipped!!! I was so surprised & excited. I got 2 pair-one black pair with wedge heel for work/casual and another black pair with a tall heel for "play". Even the tall heel is a nsv because I have never been able to walk in a tall heel before. I even bought 2 sweater dresses to wear them with and plan to get a jean skirt or two since mine are now too big. It's what some might consider small things like this that remind me that I definitely made the right decision getting the band. Happy Holiday's everyone. I will be sporting my tall boots this season.

I was banded on 4/19 and went today for my checkup with my primary care doctor. Before surgery, my A1C was down to 6.5 with diabetic medicines. Today, my A1C was 6.0!!!! Woo hoo! Able to go from 3 pills a day to 2....the doctor stated I will probably be off all meds in a few months! Two years ago, my A1C was over 8. I'm so excited...I wanted the lapband for mainly health reasons with the weight loss as a bonus. Can't wait for the future!!!!

Well I am late to the party here but... Congratulations. We go into this with high hopes and expectations... But like me I kept it in the back of my mind that it may not happen like I hoped... Well it does for the most part and you have done a fabulous job. The best NSV's are the ones you listed about medication and how much your life has improved. I am sure you will make many more discoveries in the next year to come. Once again congrats and it's stories like yours that give all new bandsters hope

Finally a Very Special NSV

great job you will have many more moments in the next few months. getting into jeans without a struggle was one of my first nsv's. keep on doing what you are doing... -
I had to come share my new NSV moment with you all because my husband doesn't get it. I have hit a bump in the road after tearing my meniscus and possible ACL in June. I am scheduled for an arthroscopy next month. My workouts have been cut WAY back to a recumbent bike only and I am only able to tolerate 20 minutes. I have been maintaining my weight loss but have not lost anything since April. Today I went to WalMart looking for some shorts that fit and was able to fit into misses 18 shorts and get them buttoned!! Along with the shorts I was able to buy 2 sundresses in an XL which I don't think I have worn in over 12 years. After feeling down the past couple of weeks this was a much needed pick-me-up. Thanks for letting me share. Doing the happy dance right now.

Amazing Drop in Blood Pressure
mkmelissag replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, this has been the greatest NSV! Before surgery, I was on 4 different BP meds, at really high dosages. I've been working with my cardiologist to wean off of them. As of today, 2.5 months after surgery and 40 lbs down from my highest (consultation) weight, I completely dropped one med (norvasc). Dosage for Metoprolol down to 50mg from 150mg. Diovan is down to 80mg from 360mg, hoping to lose that one at my next check in. Diazide unchanged. This is amazing to me since I still have over 150 lbs to lose! I most likely will never be completely free of meds due to non-obesity related heart issues, but I am ecstatic over how even a relatively small amount of weightloss has caused such amazing improvement! Oh yeah, my swollen ankles are gone too! I have had a couple of low readings, i.e. 100/58. I'm averaging 110s/65-75, and I have noticed that I get dizzy easier when getting up too fast or bending over. Re cuffs: I have a wrist cuff and my doc is OK with it. I bring it in with me to test it against theirs every so often, and its never more than a couple points off. -
Biked to work for the first time this morning, 21.7 miles, 90 minutes, 1130 calories, 41.8 degrees average temp. The real NSV will be when I make it home

You are such a cool grandma! Great NSV! Thanks for sharing.

Today was the first day I really exercised since surgery and I was to do 30 min on the eliptical. It was just slow and steady but a start none the less.
-
That's a GREAT first NSV! Mine was fitting comfortably into the seats at a concert with my niece 2 months post-op. Before, there's no way in hell I would've been able to without dying and being uncomfortable. But thanks to just those 2 months, I was able to comfortably and we had a great time. It's the NSV's like that that mean more I believe.

Happy Anniversary!! And thank you for staying and being honest about the struggles. I am 3 and 1/2 years out. I have maintained my 124# loss for 3 years. So I it is so different being in the maintance than the losing phase. Lets face it watching and feeling all those changes is really liberating!! Now we have all of the NSV's to keep us going. When you have been at goal, people stop talking about the weight loss so we all need to find something else to keep us going. For me it is coming here getting and giving support. Because if just one person is helped thru something that is holding them back then ALL IS GOOD with me. Again Thank you for your post.

Gotta Luv Those NSVs!!
Mimilou2004 replied to sweetbean70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a great NSV, Sweetbean, that is wonderful. And even more special that hubby got it for you right away and didn't make you wait. Mimi -
Aside from getting into smaller sizes, I had my 1st NSV last night. We went out to dinner for the 1st time since surgery and went to a restaurant that we would normally wait for a table as the booths are so small and it'd be a very tight fit. Well I didn't even think about it until I went to sit and there was plenty of room to spare! I was so shocked I didn't have to try to wiggle my way in and pretend I was fine. It's definitely the small things! ????

Isn't that an awesome feeling!! Congratulations My first NSV is being able to trim my toenails without having discomfort and feeling like a contortionist!! I can actually get to them easily now!

That's amazing. Such a great accomplishment. I did my first half marathon October 9th in Long Beach CA in 2 hours 25 minutes. I felt so proud and that was my greatest NSV since have been sleeved (01-17-11). Are u thinking of doing a full marathon?
