    Confused and Depressed

Thank you everybody! My scale is now under my bed and will only come out for a visit once a month. My doctor said to expect weight loss of about 10 lbs a month but to focus more on inches than the numbers on the scale. He also reminded me that although I feel good, there is still a lot of healing going on. Just like the incisions on the outside are not yet healed, so too the incisions on the inside are still healing with residual swelling, etc. I've started puree foods and feel much more human now, without the radical mood swings I was experiencing, being on liquids for nearly a month straight (pre and post surgery). Yesterday, I tried on shirt that was way too small prior to my surgery, and lo and behold, it fit perfectly! That provided the mental boost I was looking for! I appreciate all your kind, patient and honest input and advise--you guys ROCK!

    October Surgery Roll Call

10/29 Sleeve, doing well over all, but like you have noticed the grazing habits sneaking back in. Working on getting that back under control. It's amazing how it can sneak back in once you let it.
  6. Hi Lisafrommassachusetts, im 10 days out from my sleeve. I’m also feeling little pain already. Just really struggling with the protein. I cannot drink the drinks period. I made a spinach/carrot/leak soup in beef stock I’ve been living on. I’m walking but woke up yesterday with an intense pain in my eyeball. No idea what’s going on there. Going to have to go to the dr. I guess. Overall good just really struggling with the protein. Yes I too have to choke down my chewable vitamins. I’d rather just swallow a multivitamin like they gave me in the hospital. Looking forward to different meals
  7. 10/9 Sleeve, doing good, have noticed some return to bad grazing habits, so keeping myself in line with that.
  8. Holy Hell..... found this old picture from before my Lapband in 2009. Found on my friend's FB page. It said post Feb 2010.... But i'm 99.9% sure it was pre op liquid diet..... That would have made me 232# back then..... that jacket was a 3XL...(maybe a 4). I was so sad back then. I really felt at the end of my rope. I'm so happy with the way things turned out. Looked back at some of my post and damn the things i said..... i was one of the "i only lost" posters... I was also still under the delusion that i could make my marriage work. Didn't know it then, but he was cheating.... in so many ways. Since then i had the band placed Nov 2009, looking back now... i really didn't lose a whole lot that first year... like 60#. I lost another 20 the next year..... i hovered at 143-145 for years. I had a TT in March of 2012. 2015/2016 told him i wanted a divorce. Oct. 2016 meet the love of my life. March 2017, my band slipped and had an ER removal. Aug 2017 moved to Mississippi. Feb 2019 started menopause... and the weight really started coming back on.... from 143# removal day to 173.5 .... Found a Dr. that would do a Low BMI revision.... 2.5 years later. 14K OOP.... and worth every cent. Got married Sept. 26, 2019 (one month pre op). Today i weight 131.? It has taken me 10 years to lose 100#s.... Stated at a size 18-20 pants...

    My New Start

Thank you both so much! I agree that eating right is very important, but now that I have more energy, I'm finding myself a bit antsy if I sit still for too long/don't move. I work a sedentary job, too, so I'm hoping with modified exercises, I'll be able to join my troop again soon. My relationship is actually a huge motivator for me. My girlfriend had the gastric sleeve surgery the week after mine (12/20/19), so we're going through most of this together. The boyfriend was supposed to have the sleeve done as well but ended up dropping out. He wasn't emotionally ready to make the changes needed, and no reason to have the surgery if you aren't prepared to do that yet. He has been SO supportive of both of us, though. I agree that taking care of myself first and getting back to with meal prep is the best thing I can do right now to get back on track. Thank you again!

    My New Start

My first post I thought I would introduce myself and talk about my story. I'm Jamie. I am 36 years old and I recently had the duodenal switch completed on 12/12/19, so I just had my 3 month post-op appointment on Friday. I am exactly 60lbs down from my surgery weight and 88lbs from my highest weight in 08/19. I felt like I was more on track a month ago when I was meal prepping more. Now I feel like I eat more on the fly and while I'm not making the worst choices, I feel like there are better choices that I could be making. It comes down mostly to time, though. I work more than full time, I am a full time student, and I am in a thrupple relationship (dating two people that are married to each other - been together nearly 18 months) with their 6 year old son in the mix. This means that I am super busy with my family, work, and school, and I split my time between my house and theirs. When I do meal prep, it feels like I am shuffling food around a lot and trying to find places to put it to keep it cold/fresh. It is still cold here (Pennsylvania), but come summer I know this is going to be more of a challenge. I also meal prep for the boyfriend to help him get in good meals for lunch while he works from home. I started working out recently, joining a bootcamp fitness class that was challenging but so rewarding and so so SO motivating! The problem there, however, is that I have osteoarthritis in both knees. My left knee is much worse than my right and has been killing me. I recently saw an orthopedic specialist who gave me a steroid shot in my knee and is having me see a physical therapist on Wednesday (03/11) before I can go back to the gym. I feel like this has put a huge snag in my plans and what I have been working so hard lately to get on track with. Overall, I'm definitely looking and feeling better, and I know these are small snags that I just need to find a work-around for and not get discouraged. I wanted to join a support site to maintain my motivation and get inspired by others, so if you are still reading, thank you!

  12. I was sleeved in November 2018 and got pregnant in May 2019 with my 3rd child. I was 175 then, got down to 160 at around 6 months, 168 at delivery, and I'm now about 155 at almost 12 weeks post baby.

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

4 weeks out today! I am down about 13 pounds since the day of surgery, plus the 10 I lost during the 3 week pre-op. I have lost 10% of my body weight from my high of 260 last October. On the upside: I am getting all my protein in; I'm not hungry; I seem to be getting in to more of a rhythm with this. I have had no pain to speak of. Downside: I keep getting colds, sore throats, etc. I think my immune system is just really low; I had the flu before surgery, then the surgery, and have not really gotten my strength back. I am hopeful I won't get that coronavirus! I'm still struggling with the liquids; I can get to 50, but getting to 64 is a stretch. I have not been able to significantly increase my exercise (which is just walking). Also, although I was not a heavy drinker, I did enjoy a glass of wine or a beer, and I have to learn how to meet up with friends now that I am not drinking. Seems odd to meet for a glass of water I'm looking forward to getting healthy, not feeling so run down, increasing my walking especially as the weather gets nicer, and being released to full foods so I can experiment with some different meals that I can share with my family. How are other February surgery folks doing as we move through the post op phases?

Dang if feel for you, Never thought about that of course my kids are 16 and 19 so kinda hard to carry. Look at it this way, Mom has made a decision to live a healthy longer life for the little dude and herself, The reward way outways the little set backs you are getting today. Good luck and soon you will be able to lug him around, but do not push it your surgery was recent let the body heal or you could hurt yourself
  15. Leaving on a plane tomorrow for Las Vegas. Surgery Thursday. I can’t believe this is happening. I hit hangry yesterday after 10 days of liquids and I’m hormonal as all get out. Oh, and due to cycle on the day of surgery. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ But I am so ready. Except I’m not packed yet..... 😂😱

    Post Multivitamins

Bariatric Advantage has a one a day which I started taking because the chewable made me nauseous. The size is ok about the size of one antibiotic capsule or slightly larger. It does not bother me and there is minimal after taste. The first few days it made me burp but then went away. I found taking them 10 minutes after eating helps keeping them down.
  17. I had surgery 2/19. I’m also cold all the time when I used to be the opposite. Back to work for me on 3/13. Hoping I’m ready!
  18. I had robotically assisted sleeve and was in hospital for two days because oral pain meds were made nauseous. Surgery Thursday morning at about 10 a.m. out on Saturday at 10 am.

    Any bike suggestions?

I really love my Cirrus Sport with drop bar (ie "girl's bike). (With arthritis is my hips and knees, I just can't swing my leg over the seat, and my balance is not that great, so the drip bar is a really safe option for me. I love it.) It is a hybrid - not as skinny as a road bike, and has really comfortable handlebars that are very ergonomic. The gear shifters are thumb levers - very easy and ergonomic. Seat is good - padded and not as skinny as a road bike. I started riding again after maybe 40 years. It was a little scary - especially on a bike that I couldn't get on or off easily because of the top bar. I just bit the bullet and bought my own. I did a 52 mile race a few months ago and am gearing up for a 100 miler later this year. Biking is fun. It is not hard on the knees, it gives a real sense of freedom, and is just great all around exercise. Warning - The day you buy the bike is the cheapest day you own the bike! Then comes a helmet, car rack, lights, water bottles, spare parts bag, jerseys, shorts, shoes......................... never ends. I did find my jerseys and shorts at a thrift store for just $8=$10 - a steal. Found bike rack at the thrift store, as well, which saved at least $150. But then had to get the hitch put on my car.

    Dehydrated And Low Blood sugar

@BecomingAnna oh my goodness I was right where you were last week! I had the bypass on February 19. I wasn't getting fluids in, sick of full liquids, feeling dizzy, mouth dry, dark urine and feeling very sorry for myself. I am an hour away from my surgeons office. I called them and let them know I was only getting about 15-20 ounces in a day and they told me to go straight to the ER to get fluids. I go to the ER in my town and doctor there said yes you are dehydrated but IV fluids are not the answer. You need to drink. I was sooooo mad and crying and everything you can imagine. They brought in a bottle of Gatorade zero and I started drinking. I didn't finish it of course while I was there, but since then, that has been my go to drink. I don't know what it is. I'm still not getting enough. My urine is still dark and I sometimes feel like why in the world did I do this. But I'm holding on because I've seen alot of other people say the same thing. I'm believing that it will get better. I would still call your doctor though. Let them know what you're feeling and maybe there is some help they can give you. But do know that you are not alone! Other people may think you are being ridiculous but I don't think so. I'm right there with you. We'll get there!!!
  21. Hi all. It has been a while since I have posted on the forum. In 2004 I got a Lap-Band put in. It lasted about ten years until complications forced me to get it removed. After that, due to scar tissue fusing my liver and diaphragm to my stomach, I had managed to retain most of the weight loss, but four or so years ago, something changed, and I slowly gained all my weight back. So this year, 2/25/2020, I got the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I am 12 days post-op. My doctor has me on a chopped diet of meats and cooked veggies, cottage cheese, and boiled eggs (and other stuff). My question is, how do I intake 90 grams of protein per day that the dietician said I should have for my height? I am struggling to eat often enough as it is, being without much of an appetite, and other than craving something crunchy (and salt, for some reason, I am craving a lot of salt), I can't see a way of obtaining that much protein every day. Right now, I take protein powder (flavorless) and mix it with a cup of coffee in the morning, which is around 25g. Then I drink two Premier Protein Clear, which is another 40g. A boiled egg and maybe a small portion of cottage cheese with a tiny bit of canned chicken, 10+/- 5 grams, and by that time, the day is over, and I am struggling to think of something else. I was hoping for some creative ideas I can try and incorporate to manage muscle loss on this adventure. I have lost 30.60lbs

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Wow wow wow! Everyone! Wow!!! It was an awesome year, amazing results for everybody! I get lost in the negative and forget to celebrate the positive. Body dysmorphia? I don’t know but I’m so happy to read from you guys because everybody is so positive and I have zero regrets about doing this surgery. The surgery resolved all of my hip and ankle pain, abdominal pain I was having from scar tissue, and a “TMI“ issue I was having as well! Also, I have never had good self-esteem but I do now.... better. Probably best to say “better”. I think I look beautiful but I still have my insecurities just like everyone else. My husband’s ex-wife taunted me for 13 years. 13 years of being called FAT, fat b****, huge, “waitress from Mel’s diner”... whatever that means, among many other appearance-related insults that were constantly flung at me. She would text me, email me, approach me in public... anything she could do to rattle me about my weight. She started harassing me and my kids again this past week (yes, I called the police) and previously had reached out to me through a text message (she uses my stepsons cell phone and pretends to be him to engage me in conversations which is how this one from a couple of months started, below), and... (I won’t say that this is all about the weight loss surgery) BUT it was such an amazing feeling NOT TO CARE. She has not seen me in over a year and assumes I still look the same. She can never BULLY me about my weight again. I’d like to say that didn’t play a part in making me feel like **** or didn’t motivate me to make change. It’s sad that adults over the age of 40 have to stoop to that kind of level. I just usually don’t respond or if I do, I try to be positive and rise above it. I’m sure I’m not alone in knowing what it’s like to have someone constantly verbally tell you how fat/ugly you are. Even if it’s somebody’s opinion whom you do not respect. My ex-husband also used to tell me I was fat and I would take diet pills to try to stay within his ideal range. His coworkers started calling him Cheeto at one point because he was telling them how he told me not to eat Cheetos. I weighed 115 pounds at the time and had given birth to his twins less than a year before. The guys he worked with ultimately started teasing him because he was being verbally abusive to me and THEY thought I was attractive. He even wrote me a letter about a year ago and said that I had passed my “fat gene” on to our daughter. I’ve had a lifetime of beating myself up over this. Even my Mom would tell me that I needed to “tone up”. I just look back and think - I’ve lost 30 years worrying about my weight!?! So, this has been so much more than losing 60+ pounds for me. Now I have started watching my calories and walking. I am fluctuating back and forth 3-4 pounds now as the restriction has decreased. It’s a small effort, and just a start after months of not having it under control and not really watching or staying on plan. Regardless, I feel great. I took this picture a few days ago and I know I’m healthy now and no regrets... Thank you to everyone here who has supported me and lifted me up through this process. Each and every person who has made any comment or contribution here is important to me. Whether we talked directly or not, all of the input was so greatly appreciated and continued to motivate me to stay positive. I’m so happy that everyone has had success! Group FEB ‘19 is the best!
