Protein recommendations!
TheRevisionedVagabond posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've just hit 5 weeks post op & cant seem to shake this stall for crap! Its been ongoing for about 2 weeks now & it's frustrating but I KNOW I'm not getting in the recommended Protein. Please suggest some protein brands & flavours you use to help get your goal in! I've tried the Syntrax nectar but only Fuzzy Navel & Carribean Cooler. Wasn't a fan of the former, but the latter is really good! I'm not looking for something with a weird after taste or anything like that. Bonus points if I can put it in Water (to make a protein rich "crystal light") or even if it's *truly* unflavoured. (Heard about GENEPRO but don't know much about them) Lay them on me! Does appetite come back?

I mix GENEPRO Protein with my morning coffee every morning. The rare occassions I don't have coffee, I will take a shake in the morning instead. I average 80-90 protein a day. @thinn2010, I started off losing slow and had that 3rd week stall when I moved to puree. Between months 2 and 4 1/2, the weight flew off. -
Protein intake, struggling
ShelterDog64 replied to vsgbeauty13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I and a number of people in my support group from all over the US use GENEPRO and have done very well with it. I've lost 83 lbs and am 29 from goal. And individual MDs rarely do 'studies'; they may look at their patients observationally and see trends but using Genepro vs some other brand of Protein is not preventing people from losing weight. Not following an intelligent eating plan is what keeps people from losing weight. -

I will have my surgery on the 13th of February but, I have found a protein mix called genepro. 1 tablespoon is 30grams and I mix it with my coffe. My sister had her surgery in October and she started using this as well and mixes it with an ounce of Gatorade and takes like a shot .. hope this helps you.. Starting the process for gastric sleeve
MissKay replied to Chris Lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For pre-op I drank the Premier protein shakes. Couldn't stand the taste after surgery, so I switched to mixing Genepro (protein powder) in with many things. Applesauce, soup, broth, juices, smoothies, etc. -
Ugh... the damn thing double quoted for some reason. Sorry. As I said though, there are people on this board that swear by it because their blood test came back good after their 6 month or whatever. However unless you are talking more than a year, that could be from breaking down their own muscle tissue or the fact that they are getting the minimum needed from their diet to be in the normal range. Genepro is pretty much just BCAA's (amino acids that build proteins). That would leave protein markers in the bloodstream. Now, with all of that being said. If someone chooses to use it, it's no skin off my nose and doesn't matter to me one way or another.

I have pretty vocal about my distaste for Genpro and nothing has happened to change my opinion of it. There were some pretty vocal supporters of it in the past, but most of them are gone for one reason or another. If you will allow me to quote myself: They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. I believe this says it best about Genepro: Long story short, they are selling lies. Most likely they are selling BCAA's and calling it protein. Do yourself a favor and buy a reputable protein brand. Gold Standard is good brand. There are so many manufacturers that lie on their labels, you almost have to look them up and see how many lawsuits they have against them before you buy! If their process was true, every other maker out there would be following suit because it is such a cutthroat business. The fact that most retail chains refuse to carry it is evidence of the company's reputation. They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. GENEPRO has been the best Protein supplement I have found. It mixes into literally everything hot or cold with no issues and you can't beat 30 grams of protein a pop! I buy mine on Amazon. Sent from my VS500 using the BariatricPal App

As was said above, you proablly need to up your Protein intake. Also make sure you are getting enough fluids in. It is common to stall. Also protien really does play a huge help in your weight loss. If you don't take in enough your body thinks it is in starveation mode. A great protein that has no flavor and can be added to anything is GENEPRO it is the only one I have found that has no flavor and won't change the taste or texture of whatever you add it too. Good Luck

Protein Shakes & what kind/Brand
mylighthouse replied to CantStopMeNow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I have tried a couple different brands and found that my favorite is the Premier Protein shake in chocolate. An 11 oz serving has 30 grams of protein. It's a good shake, doesn't taste chalky at all. You can find them at quite a few different stores including Walmart and Sam's Club, with Sam's Club carrying the 12 pack for a really good price. For unflavored Protein powder, I have tried GENEPRO, unjury and Isopure. So far, taste wise, I like Genepro the best, but was disappointed when I heard that Genepro's claims of 30 grams of protein per serving may not be true. My nutritionist said to stay away from Genepro. Therefore, out of the three brands that I've tried, Unjury and Isopure are my favorites. I used them in the full liquid stage after surgery.... mixed them in my cream of celery Soup. Now at 12 weeks post op, I still use the unflavored protein powder in my iced decaf unsweet tea. Tastes great. Hope that helps. -
So I'm 6 weeks post and really really dislike Protein shakes. Always have. I've found 2 favorite go-to that I have daily to get in at least 30 grams protein and actually love them. First is sugar free pistachio pudding made with fairlife milk and GENEPRO. It mixes very well since mix cold (I did not like Protein powder mixed in SF Jello personally) and makes 4 servings which I estimate I get 30-35 grams from one per day. Find your favorite flavor! Second is fage plain Greek yogurt with a scoop of Click Brand Mocha protein powder which gives me about 35 grams. I either have as a meal or a snack depending on the day. Really need help with advancing food

I have the unflavored kind from Matrix but to me it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Didn't happen before surgery. Same with unjury chicken flavored. I can't stand the stuff now. I also have GENEPRO but I have a problem with all the controversy surrounding how much protein is actually in the stuff. I'll order some isopure tomorrow. Thank you! I'm a week and a half post op, and someone told me about GENEPRO Protein powder. It's a tasteless powder with one Tbsp. Equaling 20 oz. of protein. It has saved me! I HATE protein drinks!!! I gag in them, but with this I just make s mini smoothie using 3 frozen strawberries, and 2-3 Tbsp. banana, a tsp. Of Greek yogurt for smoothness, a few ice chunks, and 1/4 cup Water. Then I have a yummy smoothie with 30 grams of protein! I cannot taste the powder! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Looking for people that had their surgery on January 24th or close to it.

Another day down and I'm still here. I was terrible at getting Water in today, just hurt a lot. I did boost my Proteins so I'll pat myself on the back for that today and get much more focused tomorrow with water. Interestingly I have been having to pee a lot - I'm chalking that up to losing all of the IV Fluid pumped into me at the hospital. My hands, wrists, and feet aren't swollen anymore (thank goodness). I tried unsweetened apple sauce with some GENEPRO powder and it was terrible. Who says that stuff is flavorless? I went to the grocery store with my husband and the after taste was so bad I unwrapped a SF popsicle in Aisle 7 and munched away (took me 20 minutes to eat the thing but who is counting) In the midst of all the SuperBowl party foods that are out (I live in MA - go Pats), I got a lot of weird stares for eating the popsicle in the store like a little kid. I thought it was kinda funny. I went for a mile walk holding my water bottle and trying to take a sip every few feet but that didn't work as well as I would have liked. The nausea has subsided considerably - yeah me! January sleevers - keep the info coming!! -

Yes I'm on liquids until day 16 *sigh* I'm still trial and error with everything so far the only things I like are sf pudding, fudgesicles, and my crystal light, still trying to find a Protein powder I like because as of now I use GENEPRO but don't know if I should trust it has 30 grams or not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My doctor's office recommended a product called unjury. You have to order it from their website, but they deliver quickly. I like them because they have a sample pack for about $21, and you get 2 packets each of their protein shakes, 2 of their chicken broth, and 2 unflavored. The kit also comes with a mixing plastic tumbler and a thermometer. This way I can try it inexpensively. So far, I've tried the soup and it was good! Just a recommendation. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks I'll look into that! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Today I can start Protein shakes/ powder. I just had my first "shot" of protein. Note to self GENEPRO mixed with crystal light is no good. I'm going to try it with broth next. Also I've been sitting here looking at my vitamins/prescriptions in fear. They always make me so sick. Well at least I have zolfran. I might have to suck it up and purchase the Patches for a little while. Picture is Vitamins, morn, noon, eve, bed plus calcium chews. On the right is my shot of crystal light on the right is crystal light with gene pro. My Breakfast of champions!!! Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App
