I'm on day 6 post op. Not sure exactly what it is. I'm sure I over did it I felt so good and probably did not rest as much as I should have but today it felt like heartburn (bad) I can't keep crushing Pepcid so I got chewable and they helped but still hurts so not sure what I'm feeling. Wonder if I ate to much. I may have drank my broth to fast do I took in to much? Or maybe half a yogurt was to much? I'm not sure how to tell. Glad I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow I'm a little nervous.

hi; I had to be on liquids for 2 weeks pre op and almost lost my mind and my cookies (pun intended)! I spoke with a bariatric nurse at the Cleve Clinic where I had my band put in and she said you can have creamed soups and yogurt. It isn't easy but it will pay off in the end because it gives you a mind set about a new way of eating. Keep up the good work, you will be happy you did. Jugazi:thumbup:

Okay, I am new to restriction. I had my second fill Wednesday. All day I had trouble drinking water and keeping it down. I was uncomfortable all evening. When I tried to eat, I couldn't. Thursday, more of the same. Yogurt was the only thing I could eat, and then only about 2 oz at a time. Friday, I made a stir-fry, and was only able to eat 2 small bites of broccoli and two small bites of beef. AND THEN it all came right back up. Not like throwing up, it just sort of crawled back up my esophagus. And the pain!! OY! Before it came back up I had chest pain that I can't even explain! Now, five days later, I am still only able to eat extremely small amounts. For dinner I had about an ounce of a turkey burger, and 2 tater tots. I stopped before the pain started this time. <----not completely stupid! But honestly, my dr. wants me to eat five small meals a day. Since my fill, I am lucky if I eat TWO small meals a day, and they are extremely small. I know I am not getting enough nutrition. I can barely fit the protein drinks in. Do I need to have an unfill? Or is this just what it is supposed to be like?? I like the scales going downward each morning, but am worried that this isn't healthy. Thanks! Hugs,

Protein Shakes ? Food ?
JollyBigChick replied to RDCLambert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with mgteacher. everything you plan before surgery will go out the window after surgery. I bought a lot of jello, flavor drink packs to add to bottled water, broth, protein powder, baby food, and other crap. after surgery my taste buds changed so much I couldn't tolerate most of what I bought. a lot tasted nasty to me. when I came home I drank water, beef broth with pepper and a looooot of sugar free popsicles. I loved popsicles because they were ice cold and my mouth would get so dry I couldn't talk. even now I keep a bottle of water with me at all times because if I talk a lot my my gets so dry. never happened before surgery. for me all protein shakes are nasty, even now I am 18 months out and cant drink protein shakes without gagging on them. I didn't puree any foods. I just stuck with soft food like yogurt, mashed potatoes with a little bit of gravy. a few times I had sugar free vanilla ice cream. I used to crave anything ice cold. and anything soft I could mush up in my mouth like cheese. you can get as many ideas as you want from people but really you need to find what works for you. they will tell you repeatedly not to drink anything with calories. water only. and sip water alllll day long. for me the problem with that is if I drink all day like youre supposed to I never get hungry and cant eat. so I modified what they told me to do. I will drink things with calories because you need calories for energy. not saying I drink soda and shit. I drink juice by a company called bottlehouse. they are just like naked juices but much cheaper. you can get them at walmart right next to naked. they are only $3.00 or so for a bottle when naked is $5.00. if I drink something with a lot of calories I consider it a meal. sometimes I blend the juice with yogurt. that makes a glass about 300 calories or so. so I consider it breakfast. everybodys story is slightly different. everybody tolerates different foods in different ways. like I had never had dumping. sugar has no effect on me. I was terrified of dumping from everything I have heard people say. then one day about year out, dumping happened I think. what did it for me was cereal and milk. I had eaten dry cereal, I had drank milk, but something about the combo of milk and cereal together made me dump. you should follow doctors orders, but sometimes you have to tweak things. what works for one person may not work for another. -
Saturday's Meal Plan - What Are You Eating and Drinking?

Breakfast coffe, wholewheat English muffin,2 tablespoons peanut butter lunch 1 cup Greek yogurt, berries, snack fudgcycle, supper 2 two ounce portobello mushroom veggie burgers, 1/2 a sweet potato, 1/2 cup salad. 1/4 cup good thins spinach parmesan crackers 5 calorie orange jello. -
Ha, we are in the same boat. 2 weeks post op. One more week of full liquids. I'm hungry! I spoke to Nut today and she said to stay on track for another week and increase my protein as much as I want. i hate sf, ff stuff. I dont find it real food. Frankenfood. Only sf I do is crystal light. So, I make fresh soups and fruit infused waters and teas. ina garten's roasted tomato basil soup is awesome. Easy, puréed and strain through a fine strainer. Love it. I made this before surgery. Adding plain yogurt to bump protein and make it creamier. I made a Thai carrot soup which had peanut butter sauce in it. Amazingly! Epicurous.com has a fantastic black bean cumin jalapeño soups. This ne needed about 1 more cup of water to thin. Add a very small amount of liquid cheese (Campbell's cheese soup). Sour cream. Yummy. i make my own bone broth. No chemicals, good protein and healing collagen. Easy and cheap. I can make a gallon for about 9 bucks. I drink my protein shakes to hit my goal, then have fun. The soups are pretty low carb and fat because I'm only eating 1/2 Cup over 20-30 minutes. Good fiber also, which we need. Frankenfood had no fiber. Obviously I enjoy cooking, so I'm keeping busy tring to be creative. Hang in there.

Anything I need for my week following surgery?
jujuvee replied to StephOnee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am being banded on tuesday and I am on clear liquids on day one. Days 2-14 full liquids- strained soups, yogurt, cream of wheat, softly scrambles egg beaters, applesauce, refried beans. My dietition said to puree the beans and add some broth to make them runny, looks gross but very filling. Days 15-28 mushies.... At this point there are many options. I bought a stick blender and look forward to using it. Anyway I just listed some of what's on my list, hope it helps and good luck. -
I prepack homemade beans (I use toddler-sized plastic containers), fresh cilantro to top the beans or sometimes homemade salsa, Greek yogurt, 100-calorie packs of almonds (I'm 4 months out), babybel lite cheese or Laughing Cow soft cheese, cheese sticks, apples or berries, veggie strips (usually red pepper or cucumbers), salads, yogurt with protein powder added, protein bars for emergencies (only eat half), vegetarian chili... I'm a vegetarian btw.

TMI and a little gross
jane13 replied to kranky813's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@kranky813 - hmmm change your brand of yogurt (sweeteners?) or creamer? if I eat/drink too much artificial sweetener that happens to me, sometimes. Not all the time. -
I'm on day 4 of a low carb/high protein/soft food pre-op. I don't feel hungry and its going well. It consists of protein shake before each "meal", And I'm actually liking my strained "Light" soup..very easy to do. I am going to be totally sick of yogurt by the time this is over though

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Any idea for high protein breakfast? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein powder, Kashi Go Lean Cereal with dairy milk, protein smoothie, Quest bar, crustless quiche. If you like coffee, there are several kinds of coffee/mocha/latte flavored Protein drinks available. At least 3-4 days/week I make a 1 egg omelet with cheese and whatever leftovers in the fridge....spinach, ham, mushrooms, brats, peppers, turkey, etc. And breakfast doesn't even have to be "breakfast" I had a couple bites of smoked trout and a couple spoonfuls of cottage cheese for breakfast this morning. -

I just make up soup recipes, I get creative with what's left in the bottom of the vegie drawer. Usually I'll use a base of butternut pumpkin (I think that's squash to you guys?), and chuck in whatever I have. I always sautee some bacon and onion first, then for the stock or broth I use Vegeta seasoning (its just a vegetable powdered stock). I dont make it too watery, I like thick soup. I just puree this all up, serve with a dollop of natural or greek yogurt. One favourite is zucchini and leek - again sautee onion and bacon, then add in a couple of sliced leeks and 3 or so zucchini, about a cup of Water and sweat it all down so the flavour is really intense, then add in your broth/stock, simmer till its all soft enough to be pureed - at this stage, I often puree in some light sour cream or natural yogurt. I make a really yummy one - pumpkin soup (either canned or home made) with some crunchy Peanut Butter, sour cream and curry powder blended in - that one's a real meal due to all the calories in the pb and sour cream. I'm a real fan of stew style soups too but those are chunky and have bits of meat, not really for liquid stage. I find I cant go past good old Heinz Cream of Tomato soup - love love love it, made with milk and with a grilled cheese sandwich - ah, comfort food for Friday night dinner. And very occasionally, I get a yen for a cup-a-soup. Any Thai inspired soup is a hit round here too - a good laksa cant be beat (but again, not a real liquid due to chicken or prawns and noddles),, and we all love Tom Yum soup.

Ditto for me. All of those same things plus turkey jerky, fruit, yogurt and my best friend since day one - coffee! It's about control, not denial.

I'm not eating solid food.. I said soups, yogurt, applesauce. My Dr allows what they calls a slip & slide diet. Anything that easily slips through a funnel is ok -
Sleeved in September-lost nothing since November!
ren0318 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi all it's been a while since I stopped by...to remind you about me I have type 2 diabetes, on an insulin pump. I needed to lose 85 lbs to be at my goal. I've lost 43 lbs and the last weight loss I did have was in November. I need some help. I don't think I'm eating the right foods. I feel like I eat the same 4-5 foods everyday. lunch meat, cheese stick, yogurt Protein bar and Protein shakes.... Not to mention how expensive the Protein Bars and protein power is. I feel lost....I want to lose this other 42 lbs. I don't even know how to get on track or what I should be eating, or how much. It's like everything that I learned in my prep classes, doesn't seem to fit what's happening now. I have been trying to attended Jazzercise 3-4 days a week and walk as much as I can. I'm 47 if that helps any advice given. I did this to hopefully get off the insulin pump my need for insulin has greatly reduced but still on the pump. Thanks in advance! -
I'm not hungry at all, but I don't feel a restriction when eating food ( yogurt, pudding, refried beans etc). I'm keeping my calories between 500-800 and since being in stage two I haven't lost any weight. It's discouraging but I know it will get better. I know I'll start losing again... But it's still discouraging.

Need Suggestions for Returning to Work after Surgery
APRILDEE1 replied to Blueslily's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I had the sleeve tumor removal and hiatal hernia repair on 4/8 today was my first day back at work. Week one was rough! I am a healthcare worker who works 12 hr shifts so I had the same fears you are talking about. I am lucky enough that my program has its own app I am sure anyone can use it Baritastic. You can log everything you need. I set reminders every 30 mins to remind me to drink (at 14 days post op I can comfortably drink 2oz in about 5 mins) it took a lot of trial and error finding the right cup to drink out of. The easiest for me was the Yeti slider lid you can sip comfortably. I also set a reminder every 4 hours to eat/drink protein. It also has vitamin reminders. I bought toddler 4oz snack cups to put my yogurt, egg salad, and refried beans (I started purée yesterday). I drink in between Patients and take 15 min break to eat then my lunch break and 15 right now where I eat my 1/3 cup of which ever. Today worked out great I am getting my food and fluids in as hoped. I also started my day with a pre made protein shake. I was so afraid I wouldn’t have energy. I have been walking about 3 miles a day for the past 5 days but I took yesterday off, and today I just walked 15 mins at lunch. Hopefully this is helpful. Good luck! -
Early on I planned my meals/snacks in my food tracker the night before. Then printed it and put times next to meals based on my calendar. Then checked things off. That way if I knew I was in meetings all morning...I could plan 1/2 a protein bar on a break...if I was at my desk maybe it was yogurt and fruit. I'm actually going back to this method this week because I've gotten cocky and haven't tracked the past few months...also haven't lost during that time Good luck!

I had this too big time. I tried a bit of liquid yogurt and it cleared right up. I was about a day or 1 1/2 days early starting full liquids. Always good to check with your own doc.

Preparing for surgery can be a scary ordeal. I have been nervous.. So, Here is a list of items that might help to have ready when you get home to make life a little easier during recovery. If any others have some ideas and suggestions, please share them! this is what has helped me get prepared for May 6. Medicinal: liquid Tylenol (they make adult strength) Chewable or liquid gas-x Gauze Pads 4x4 Paper tape Stool Softener Pill cutter Chewable Vitamins Benedryl cream (suggested for those who have a slight allergy to gauze tape) Clothing: Loose waisted shorts or sweats For the ladies, a sports bra, no under wires Slip-on shoes Comfort items: Heating pad Flexible ice pack A few books or movies Pillow for car rides to guard against seatbelt irritation Wet Wipes Chapstick/carmex Food/Kitchen items: Protein shakes Flavored Water A good blender and/or a drink mixer broth sugar free popsicles/jello Kitchen timer ( for the first few days - 15 minute sips intervals) Crystal Light "On the GO" add to bottled water mix Gatorade Bouillon Cream of Wheat Creamy Soups Applesauce Yogurt - Dannon Lite N' Fit Ensure, Boost, Glucerna etc Frozen fruits for Protein Shakes Small pudding cups Small baby spoons/bowls/plates (baby aile) 4 oz cups with lids (baby aile) Suggested list of things to have done before you leave: All laundry finished to ensure lots of clean clothes for a while. Having someone who is able to be there for a few days to handle meal prep. Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home. Get rid of all the foods in the house you are not to eat, before you go to the hospital . Make sure you have lots of fluids to drink afterwards - and for when you go back to work. Buy all the groceries you will need for at least 2 weeks after surgery. Check if your medications are “crushable”.

My surgeon allowed up to 8 oz of juice during the first 2 weeks of the liquid diet but after that we couldn't drink our calories. I would try some Torani SF syrups. Also, you could try protein powder in Crystal Lite or stirred into Greek yogurt. Good in Greek Yogurt with some PB2 (powdered peanut butter) and a little milk to thin it out.

Anige, I feel you pain. I have four kids, and it takes a good month for it to go through the entire house. In the fall, I start my kids on acidophilis chewables (its the good bacteria in yogurt) and it seems to help them fight those bugs off. I take them too (but not since the band, I forgot to ask my dr). Anyways, my kids only got a small sniffle so far this year (knock on wood). Good Luck!

anyone else question having te band right after surgery?
piercedqt78 replied to skinnymom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Chicken salad was a mushie on my post-op diet. I am almost 18 months out and I still crave chicken salad. I had it today for lunch I was also allowed to have pureed chili, very watery mashed potatos, thinned yogurt, and thin pudding. Hope things improve quickly for you. The pre-op and post-op diet are hard. But the band is worth it. ~Mandy
