Now That We Got Here How Do We Get Past The Ice Cream Demon
vinesqueen replied to NY LAPSTER's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Steve, I've never looked at ice cream as a demon, but then I have always felt that ice cream = love. My dad was an ice cream fiend, Cookies and ice cream! Some of my fondest childhood memories were where we all got a bowl of ice cream and cookies and sat around the TV watching the Smother's Brothers, or Sonny and Cher. There was no fighting, no hitting, no crying. The wolves were happy. (I was raised by wolves...) I will never give up ice cream, but like Alex, I can't imagine sitting and eating a whole pint in one sitting either. I generally eat my ice cream out of a martini glass. Silly I know, but somehow it makes the ice cream eating more... elegant perhaps. "moderation in all things" -- Terance (118 - 159 BC) -
Did you tell anyone before surgery, and do you tell people now?
lins12 replied to Sedonagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do a case-by-case basis. There were times when I wished I had not told someone that I had and times I was really glad people knew and supported me. Several people at work know, several family members but not all (THANK GOD!) and several friends. I have NO trouble sayig it has been eating less and working out more. I was a little nervous at first when people would say I looked so good. I felt like they were just saying it bc they knew. I was also suspect of several friends that said I looked great. I thought....did so and so tell them. I am less that way now, after a year. Now I say - THANK YOU! -
Hello I am fairly new to this forum. I joined about about three weeks ago in search of more information about the VSG and about Dr. Aceves and I have found that and much more. The people on here are very supportive of one another and provide great incite on the vsg experience. Let me tell you a little bit about me. Im a 23 yo nurse that resides in florida. I have been overweight since elementary school. Throughout my whole life I allowed my weight to hinder me in so many aspects of my life. When I eventually went off to college, the situation only got worse. I ate junk food on a regular basis and was very sedentary, with the exception of work and school. I stayed home all day. I went from 280lbs to 365lbs within the span of two years. I was finally fed up with my self and my self esteem took a dive too. My epiphany moment happened when I was looking through my camera and I realized that there were barely any pictures of me on there and the ones that were there I was disgusted with. So finallly I decided to do something about it. In January of 2008, I started my weight loss journey. I changed my eating habits and started to excercise. Surprisingly I lost 120lb through diet and exercise alone that year. But this last year has been much different. I can lose weight but I have a hard time keeping it off and staying motivated. My main problem is once I start eating, I can't stop until Im full. Over the past year I have losed and gained the same 10 pounds. And I am tired of it. 233 pounds has been my lowest weight and I am currently 265lbs. I have come to far to come back to 365 lbs. Im ready for a change so I have scheduled my surgery with Dr. Aceves for August 1st.

Of course I know, I'm not that stupid to make a life changing decision without in depth research, info sessions, speaking to doc and actually learning what is involved in this procedure...while part of what you say is also involved...you're forgetting that more than 2/3 of our stomachs are gone...if you drink while Eating, you can't eat as much as you should, bc there is no room for Both! A doctor didn't have to tell me that for me to know that I only have a pouch therefore have wait before I drink!

cantw8t2bme replied to OneManWolfpack's topic in The Guys’ Room

Overall funny post & im sure your buddies got your back otherwise they wouldn't be watching football with you anyways! -
Has anyone gotten insurance to pay?
Donna4545 replied to txaggiemom's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
BC/BS ND pays for the pannus but if you want the muscles tightened you have to pay for that part of it. -
Aunt flo is killing me! Any advice?
TakingABreak replied to Real California April's topic in The Gals' Room
Could you do an IUD? I'm normally not an advocate, but in your situation if you can't take BC pills, I would recommend something to regulate your hormones and cycles. Have you met with your gyno since surgery to discuss your increased flow? -
I am going to do my coffee bc I am dying for some. I've been so good with everything but decaf is in no way doing it for me. All in moderation. One cup a day.

So am I stuck or what?!
BklynPenny replied to bsellis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stuck feeling usually ends with spitting up whatevers stuck. Its starts off slimmy then the food comes out with a little gagging. I think they call it productive burb ("PB"). It feels likes a heavy pressure in your chest & even Water hurts going down. I get stuck with eggs & bread, eaten seperate occasions. Hope this helps. Fyi, I stopped eating lettuce bc it hurts my tummy. Sent from my SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 using LapBandTalk -
The carbs and sugary food are what is making you hungry. It also doesn't engage your restriction, so you can eat a lot of them. No one like to hear this, but you have to stop eating them, all of them, immediately. Take three days and eat nothing but lean, unprocessed meat (no sausage, bacon, deli meat, salami, jerky), eggs, green veggies, and healthy fats (olive oil and grass-fed butter. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want, but eat only those things. This will help you kick the cravings for carbs and sugar. You also won't ever feel true hunger as you get to eat as much as you want, whenever you want. So, you will learn to distinguish true hunger from head hunger/cravings. Also, even eating as much as you want, you won't gain weight and will likely lose. After those three days, keep eating that way for two days but get (or revive) a myfitnesspal.com account and start tracking your intake. After those next two days, add in modest amounts of dairy, fruit, nuts, and beans/legumes. Set a calorie goal for yourself -- I would think you will lose weight at 1500 calories -- and stick to it. Avoid grains, starchy veggies (potatoes, peas, corn, sweet potatoes, lima beans), sweets, liquid calories, and alcohol. Stick to your calorie goal. You absolutely can do this, I promise. 25 lbs may seem like a lot but it really isn't that much to take back off. I have done it before and I know you can too. Good luck!

Congratulations on your commitment to a healthier lifestyle by signing up! Curves is very successful here in the US and I'm sure you'll do great! However, the quoted text really bothers me and it upsets me that a fitness facility would guarantee weight loss by attending 3x or more a week. Losing weight requires that you use more calories than you take in. If you do 3 workouts a week for an average of 400 calories, that's only a total of 1200 calories. And we all know far too well how easy it is to consume 1200 calories... and that would just keep you at maintenance. You know your body better than anyone else so listen to it and go for it! Just don't buy into somebody else's BS because it's what you want to hear... You're going to do awesome because of YOU, not because THEY guarantee it.

2+ weeks out and heartburn is a beast!
Diva2Be replied to QueenA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 3 days post opt and the heartburn is keeping me here. It's so severe that even with no oral input it bubbles and burns. I pray this goes away bc it's slowly taking the joy out of the decision to do this. -

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. Today was hectic and didn’t get my usual 50-70 protein. I thought it might be bc of that. 🤷♀️ I feel fine otherwise. Definitely going to get an electric blanket or two. Lol The women at my job blast the a/c all day. I can usually tolerate it...not today. Best to you all! ❤️

I'm not nervous or anxious but I probably will be when I get prepped for the procedure. So let's see, sleep I don't think I had a decent nights sleep for days leading up to today.I guess anxious is the best word. After doing the all day liquid diet, I'm not physically hungry its more of a mental hunger. If that makes any since. My mouth is dry, n all the above. I will keep u guys posted on what to expect bc I know there is always more information n stories that people want to hear..The good the bad and the ugly! -

Hi Lisa, I am so happy for you.. I am just waiting for all my appointmens. My daughter and I are both doing it together. You said you have BC/BS..so do I but it is BC/BS federal. I know I have enough health issue's for them to approve me, but I worry about my daughter. Other than being very overweight she is healthy...but not very happy. I just think if she dosen't lose the weight she will have my health problems later in life. We both have appointment on Oct 25th, so keep us in your prayers that we can get the ball rolling in the right direction. Keep up the good work and enjoy your new life. -
Thank you moneida! I have a dr. Appt next week - I just felt so disappointed bc my surgery date was set and I was so focused on beginning new journey. However, I am now trying very hard to follow the rules of being sleeved - chewing longer, eating without drinking, taking vitamins, and limiting my calories to 800 a day. Now if u could just get motivated to exercise:)

I've read about this topic before. I was going to go with just my DL&BC. Changed my mind - we're getting Passport Cards which I think take about 2 weeks. I don't want to get stuck in Mexico.

I am currently 5 weeks post-op ds surgery. I was ok'd for walking, elliptical and stairmaster after 2 weeks. I haven't gone to the gym yet bc I love to lift weights and it would be too tempting. At my 6 week followup I should get the ok for more strenuous exercise and to use weights.
