Good luck with your surgery. I know things will be fine. We I get anxious about it I just think how great it will be to wake up and start my new life. It's the waiting for the surgery that is the hardest. And don't think about how they do the operation. Just remember they know what they're are doing and it is a fast surgery. You will be awake in no time and wonder what you were worried about.

Something we discovered on one of the other breath threads... Are you doing whey protein during the fast? It is very healthy but makes your mouth taste (and smell) like you licked a barnyard critter. Soy is less offensive, but less healthy too. Yeah, sugar free mints are probably the way to go. Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

Are you glad you chose the band vs. r-n-y?
miminms replied to miminms's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wabb...ditto! And look at your success!!! You are almost there. Congrats!! juno610...You gave all my reasons for chosing the band! We don't know the future and anything permanent scared me. I also love knowing that if I start gaining or reach a plato I have the option of getting a new fill and that should help me to get back on track. With the RNY what can you do?? momlambert....Thank you! Same to you! I know it is so frustrating when you don't lose as fast as others. You have to count your successes though....how would you be doing without your band? I know every day-week-month-year I was killing myself. Now I have hope and a future! You hang in there and don't give up-21 lbs is a lot! Good luck and God bless! -
[/size]] Hi everyone, I have my surgery booked for April 27, 07. I'll start my fast on April13, the day I host a coffee morning. Luckily for me my coffee friends are all supportive and will help me along the way. We've been meeting for 18 years. My husband is on board as well and jokes about getting the surgery money back from the money we'll save on food. I started gaining weight after a car accident that prevented me from exercising alot. Now I think I'll join a gym and just DO IT.

I had my lap band put in in Nov of 08, two weeks later i had my tonsils removed and was in ALOT of pain. Needless to say i lost some weight approx 15lbs, once I was able to eat I noticed I had NO restrictions I advised my dr of this and he said just wait and it will happen. Fast forward to Feb 09 I have my first fill and I have NO restriction and that was with a 6cc fill(the capacity on this sucker is 9:crying:) I lost all faith in the lap band and had just decided it did not work for me. I became depressed and gained approx 40 lbs:mad:, Just this past November I decided to just suck it up and try something else. I set the timer on my cell phone and at small meals every three hours and hit the gym 4 days a week 30 mins hard cardio and 20 mins weights. I see results now I have lost just over 20lbs:thumbup: but i am hungry and I'm not ashamed to admit a little cranky. I just went to the Dr again to day and I am scheduled to have the remaining 2.5 cc fill hoping that it will help, I asked what my options are if this does not work. My Dr advised I can stay on the same path with the gym work and the lower calorie meals or do the bypass procedure. I am sooooo leaning towards the bypass because I am sooooo tired of being hungry, fat, and cranky. It is a drastic move and I am concerned with the permanent factor but right now hungry fat and cranky seems kinda permanent also as i have been two of the three for a while now. Any thoughts?

Once or twice that has happened to me, I assumed maybe I was eating too fast or too much or something. Not positive though. Is it after every meal, or just after breakfast, or lunch, or dinner.. etc.. Have you noticed any patterns?

Be patient...this works! Everyone appears to go through the 3 week stall. I stalled then for almost 2 weeks...I was SO pissed! Then I stalled again around 3 months...but miraculously I dropped a whole pants size that time. I haven't been losing super fast, but I've lost almost as much as my husband, who had bypass nearly 3 months before I had my sleeve done. My doctor always says...this is a marathon - not a sprint.

Tell me about your first days/weeks
tapshoes replied to dietpeach's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Once I started on 'real' food, I was very cautious - fearing the slightest thing might cause PBing or slippage or a thousand and one other catastrophes. Within a few weeks, I relaxed and just learned to eat, or rather learned to chew! That was the difficult thing - really taking the time to chew and chew and chew and chew and chew! I tended to gulp food.....open wide, swallow almost whole and shovel more in fast! I did that a few times - OUCH! Each time I think, well I'm never doing that again. But, I'm human, even 8 months later, sometimes if I am really hungry I forget to chew - and relearn the lesson. chew chew chew chew chew chew.....train your body NOW before you start getting fills. This is a lesson you MUST learn. -
Help!!! distended again and penniless!!!
NewSho replied to evcase's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, this is just overwhelming.:phanvan You'll survive these next days, taterbugs but you have to really focus. For right now, try liquids & mushees only. Don't irritate the band with anything tough, dry or fibrous/crunchy (not even salad :cry ) Get yourself some Gas-X or any Simethicone-based tablets. Try at least 125 to 200 mg worth of simethicone to keep the slime down. In fact, any kind of Rolaids Maximum Strength-type chewables that have both calcium (to soak up the acid) and Simethicone (to prevent the fluidy sliming will probably give you some real relief fast. You need something to handle the acid heartburn and something to prevent the 'fluids coming up the esophagus' thing. If you follow these steps and don't further irritate your band, this should get you a couple of days of enough relief to keep you out of the ER. Then go immediately when you find someone in South Carolina. My first suggestion - find a Bariatric surgeon that does LapBand in your new area. Immediately - one that's in South Carolina, where you'll be back in a few days. Start making those Long Distance calls now so you'll have someone lined up when you get back home ASAP. Don't bother with the Atlanta surgeons now - you'll probably really need someone who will follow you long-term. When you say you've been "filled & unfilled" - where are you now? And also when you say you were unfilled due to "distended" band - are you saying it was dilitated, expanded, changed position? Can you describe it for us? Check the Phone Directories, check ObesityHelp website, do a Google search but find a LapBand doc in SC as soon as you possibly can. -
Awaitings surgery and new beginning
Spaness2012 replied to OBNurse's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Anxiety and the jitters is normal. All of those issues went right out the window when I was finally banded. The surgery goes very fast and I had a great anesthiologist that listed 20 things more dangerous then the surgery. The first on the list was.....getting into a car. You'll do great! -
I usually keep a fairly healthy diet but my main problem is that even when full I often don't feel satisfied. It's as if my body wants something that just isn't in what I'm eating. It's like I need a cigarette real bad only with food. As a result I tend to eat a lot of different stuff until I eventually feel satisfied. My concern is that with the band I will fill up fast but still have that nagging feeling of not being satisfied with what I've eaten. I hope you guys will tell me that this wont be a problem. I'd hate to feel like I'm starving to death with a full stomach.

T-minus 3 days and counting
CraftyChristie replied to jerryvic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the shout out Jerry!!! I am feeling the opposite of you - that these days are going by FAST! I guess because I have felt like I've had so much to do. Today I bought my protein powder from Max Muscle, did some other shopping, had lunch with my sister in law, went to coffee with my dad, got a bunch of stuff from my parents' basement (found some smaller clothes there too which will really come in handy!) oh yeah AND I had to be at the court house this morning for jury duty, which thankfully I got out of. It's been a long day. Tomorrow is my pulmonary testing, my preop tests at the hospital and then my preop appt with the surgeon so I know tomorrow is going to go by fast too! Eeee! Can't wait to talk to you on the other side!! -
Why Isn't Anything Happening
CharlottClaxton replied to Ryanband07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too went thru that stage where I didn't lose anything. But don't let it get to you. Go heavey on the protiens and exercise. And drink plenty of water. Remember with the band surgery you don't lose as fast. it's a more natural weight lose. Don't give up. I almost did myself because I expected too much from myself. -
How Much Time Do You Take To Eat ?
ItsGottaGo! replied to Born To Loose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Me too, TrueBlue. Had my first sliming episode today, was stuck and PB'd, but instead of coughing "it" out, it went back down. Thank goodness it only lasted for about 10 minutes, but it hurt! I have restriction with my first fill which was on Monday. I will never make that mistake again, eating too fast, too big bites and not chewing enough. OUCH! -
How Much Time Do You Take To Eat ?
sherilynn replied to Born To Loose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too am Pre Band, and I've being made VERY aware of just how fast I eat, how big my bites are and how little time between bites I leave. I am trying to get into the 'habit' of chew, chew, chew before the Band, and I'm trying not to drink with meals. I figure that if I start the habit now; I'll be much better off than doing this all 'cold turkey' the day after surgery. -
Hello Steph! I get the hiccups a little bit after I get full and when I realize I'm eating a bit too fast. If it gets to that point I just stop myself and save whatever is left for another time. It's just not worth getting sick over..ya know? It'll always be there later if I'm still hungry. Although it's definitely not a fun feeling at the time, it works as a painful reminder that I can't eat as fast and as much as I did before which is what I did this for in the first place, right? Haha.

No Really, I thought this was going to be easy. I guess I knew that having major surgery that shrinks the size of my stomach wasn't going to be a tra-la-di-da vacation. But you how the reality of something is rarely how you envision it. When they say decreased amount of food, did you think they meant a 1/2 cup of liquid of less. I guess I didn't realized how much overeating I was doing before. The gluttony of my lifestyle previously has become evident. I am a little freaked out that I am consuming so few calories. Ok.. That is enough of my boo-hoo. I can see that I had the thought my recovery was going to be only a few days and I would be back to life. Not so. Plus I think I jumped to full liquids to fast for my body. I am back today to juice and ice water. The journey has just begun.

So today was the day for me to return to the doctor to review my labs to make sure i was a go to see the surgeon. i have tricare prime so u had to get my doctors approval. The doc same in saying that he wouldnt give me the referral, and that i would have to wait until my doc returned. Then his nurse stated that my doc wont be in for 2 month, and so he put it in. He told me to wait 5 to 10 business days to hear if the referral was accept. but in only 1 hour i go a call with a date for 2/14 to see my surgeon! how fast was that!!!! Im so excited, nervous! Now what should i expect?

15 days out. scale will not budge. I've always been able to lose weight pretty fast when dieting, but not right now. 600 cal per day since surgery. Went in at 289 and now been stuck at 283 since Sunday. I'm going to embrace the stall. Embrace it as hard as i can around it's pretty little throat.

Hi everyone! I am on day 17 post op and I have tried to transition to soft mushies but find it hard to do. Last night I tried to order 1 egg with 1 pancake and the actual chewing with the fear in the back of my mind of eating it too fast bothered me. So I didnt eat it and ordered "vegetable beef soup liquid "and that was so much better. I dont have a problem with the actual food going in, I have a problem with the chewing and the fear of eating it too fast. So my lunch and dinner is still soup with soggy crackers mixed in. I am still getting about 800-1000 calories a day. Is this normal? Does anyone else out there feel the same way I do?

Ok I am over it now..... plateau
vinesqueen replied to LapBandFan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brenda, I too have been on a plateau for all summer. 2 entire pounds since June, and now we are looking at September. I got so pissed off I almost quit everything, but came to my senses. My thanks to everyone for their encoragement on that. 7 pounds in 8 weeks is not a plateau, it just bearly is below the 1-2 pounds a week. That is still within the realm of reasonable weight loss. Sure, it isn't the amazing rappid loss many of us got used to, but it is still within the expected rate. I undestand your frustration, espcially when we see how amazing some people are doing. We are so excited for our fast loosers, even when we feel a stab of envy because of our own slow loss. I have stopped tracking my weight. I know it is unreasonable on some level, but I have stopped. I stopped for my sanity. I am now solely focused on my NSVs. It really makes this part of the journey tolerable. Today, I bought a size LARGE skirt. Not a 2X but a large. So, I suppose right now, the fact that I've only lost 2 pounds all summer is irrelevent. What are your NSVs? Are you tracking your inches lost? -
I was banded 12/26/07. I started losing my hair in early March. The doc said that I had depleted my protein store. ( Any extra that I had stored is gone now too). He said I needed to get more than what they recommended after surgery. When I was able to eat more regular foods I wasn't drinking protein shakes as aften and that is how it happened. About two weeks after I started back on the shakes and started taking Biotin, I noticed there wasn't as much hair loss. Now it is growing back fast and thick. My nails are growing like crazy too. Good luck . Remember protein, PROTEIN, Protein and then some more protein.

HELP please!!! Feet gettin' awfully code less than 2 weeks b4 surgery
RestlessMonkey replied to hrtgoeson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Take some deep breaths. I CAN eat ANYTHING and I have fairly good restriction (I eat about 1 to 1 1/2 cups and stay full for up to 6 hours). I avoid carbonation because it could make my pouch swell etc (and honestly I can sip a soda or beer and then i burp for several minutes so it's not worth it) BUT I eat bread, I eat chicken. I eat popcorn. I even had a Peanut Butter sandwich for lunch the other day (1 piece bread and about 1 tablespoon of PB...and I was full. it was great) Please realize there is a way you will eat to reduce your weight and then a way you will eat to maintain it and live your life. Look at the thin people in your life. Do they NEVER have pizza? Do they NEVER eat a piece of birthday cake? Do they NEVER have Thai food? Chances are they indulge in all those things, but they don't do it as often or as much as you did. See my point? This is a tool and it is portion control, it isn't a punishment. It isn't food prison. I have even had fast food occasionally. But before where a huge burger and fries and a shake wouldn't quite fill me (shameful but true) now I eat 1/2 a burger, a few fries (there are always about half left in a small order) and I pass on the shake. I don't do that often because it isn't that healthy but I CAN do it if I want to. Just chill out and trust yourself. Information is good but you can analyze anything to death. Let the worry go if you can, believe you've done all you can to prepare for success, and then quit worrying. (and do NOT double your anxiety meds unless a doc says you can. Too much can be as bad as not enough, depending on the medication!) Instead of worrying about today, why not spend a little time giving yourself some positive reinforcement...think of what you'd like to do when you lose x amount of pounds, or what style of clothes you'd like to wear that you can't now, or what active lifestyle type thing (bike riding? tennis? shopping marathon? LOL) that you'd like to do as you lose. Focus on the good stuff. -
Ross the only thing I can comment in is the heartburn. I get heartburn if I eat to fast. I don't eat at a snail pace but I did learn to slow down . Hope you get some more answers. edie

delove32 replied to readyanxiousscared's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBSIL, my information was submitted to the insurance company around January 6/7. I received approval February 6. I initially started everything back in December. I had 3 "education" sessions during that time. My surgery date is set for March 26. But I could have had it sooner but I choose dates to work around my schools spring break. My process was surprisingly VERY fast compares to other stories I have read. I was really surprised to be approved so soon. Hope this helps! I am lapband not sure exactly how different the process is.
