    Weight gain!

Oh, wow, that's no fun at all. But sometimes the weight can go up or down a pound or two on any given day. This could be part of "the three week stall" we've heard so much about. How is your Fluid intake? What are your potion sizes? Are you writing down what you eat and tracking calorie/protein/carb intake? Are you drinking Protein shakes to supplement the nutrients for what you're eating? Are you constipated? It's definitely worth tracking those things and taking the information to your doctor during a follow-up to see if there's a way you can kick your weight loss back into gear. The main thing-- don't let it stress you out. Develop a healthy eating plan and stick to it! You can do it. I haven't been tracking... I will start doing that today. I am constipated but not as bad as I was when I was on pain meds but it's still going on. I am just drinking chocolate whey isolate shakes in the morning. I can usually take about a cup of food or less but def no more than a cup.

What happens if you eat solid foods too soon.

The reason you're on soft and pureed foods, is because your staple line is red raw and still not healed. You have a MAJOR wound in one of your MAJOR organs. Although you might think you're all good in the hood, you could be doing yourselves some damage. They don't (on average) tell you to wait for 6 weeks just to be pains in the bum. Its for your safety. The three week stall is well documented. Also, and more importantly, so are the risks of jumping ahead of your eating plan. Please be sensible.

    Anybody else losing slowly?

Losing 5 pounds a week is slow? You're doing fantastic! And as @@HighHeelShoes said, you might be on the dreaded three-week stall/plateau that most of us hit. Just keep to the eating/exercise schedule and you'll do fine! And don't knock yourself by comparing how fast other people are losing. Congratulate yourself for how much you have accomplished!

    Stall in weight loss

Yep the three week stall. Very common.

    Week 3 weight gain?!?!

Virtually everyone stalls out at the third week post-surgery. Do a search here for "three week stall." You'll see. Going up a few pounds is not a big deal -- probably Water weight, constipation, some minor fluctuation. Keep following your plan faithfully and the scale will start going down again. You may want to stay off the scale for a few weeks if a stall is going to drive you nuts though! PS losing 16 lbs in one week is crazy fast -- don't get discouraged if that doesn't happen again, as it is extremely unlikely.

    Not losing weight

almost everyone has their first major stall within the first 4-6 weeks of surgery. It usually happens during week 3 (thus we refer to it as "the three week stall"), but not always. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. It usually lasts 1-3 weeks. Just stick to your plan and the weight loss will start up again. btw - if you search this site for posts on the three week stall, you'll find over 15,000 posts on it. And I'm NOT kidding. It happens to almost everyone.

    Odd sense of calm/confidence?

I understand how you're feeling. I started my journey in February with my PCP and I weighed 397 pounds (a BMI of almost 53). She referred me to the man that would become my surgeon, and I had my first of six required monthly appointments with his staff on March 3. They had no weight loss expectations, but I said I wanted to lose 40 pounds (about 10% of my body weight). Once I got going, I was determined to make the most of that time. As the months went on, my confidence grew, and on the day of surgery (September 28), I had lost 99 pounds. I won't lie; I was freaked out from about a week before the surgery until the anesthesiologist knocked me out. But, my pre-op success gave me a certain leg-up in the process (at least in my mind). I walked into that hospital looking like a million bucks very proud of what I had already accomplished. This confidence has helped me tremendously post-op as well. I am convinced it has helped to speed my recovery, meet my Protein and Fluid goals, and stay positive even when I felt like hell those first few days home. Also, when I hit that "three week stall" (and so will you -- it happens to everyone), I have handled that much better as a person who has already lost almost 120 pounds as opposed to a person in the same situation who has just gotten started and has only lost 20 pounds. All this is to say have the confidence, embrace it, and let it work to propel you toward your goals. The sky is the limit, and you can achieve whatever you want to achieve! Best wishes!

    Post-op Weight loss?

I lost 36 pounds the first three weeks and then went into a three week stall. During that time I did not lose any weight. I am 3 1/2 months out now and down over 70 pounds in total. So yes what you are going through is normal. I started loosing again when I was able to get in more water and protein. I also was very frustrated and thought that the surgery was not going to work. I just got on here and read about other people and that the 3 week stall was very common. Some weeks I will loose 1 pound and then another week it could be up to 5 pounds. Hope this helps.
  10. I just got back from my three month follow up with my surgeon's office. The APRN was amazed that I lost an average of two pounds week! More than two of those weeks was on 7 day cruise and all inclusive land tour. I ate good, and had a few drinks. Avoided the dinner rolls and other carbs, but there was some cheating. I hit the fitness center on the ship for five of the seven days--that was a good 4000 calories burned! I sampled some bad foods, but I didn't over indulge. A small nibble of the deserts kept me happy. In the past I would have gained several pounds, but I held my own--I see a three week "stall" on my weight charts, which is fine by me. No gain is good! I'm back on the diet plan, and hitting the health club at least 6 days a week. It all pays off, and the band makes it easier. The APRN wanted me back in three months, and I mentioned that I was under Medicare and they don't pay for follow up for surgery... no problem, "I want you back in three months for a follow up." She also asked if I wanted a fill, and I didn't think it was needed, but she said to call anytime if I changed my mind. That is the benefit of being treated by a good surgical group. I may actually hit my personal goal sometime in 2015. For now, life is good. I hope the honeymoon with the band lasts.
  11. The three week stall is fairly common. I know I am dreading my first stall.
  12. YES! I was also sleeved on 7/29. I lost 21lbs the first two weeks and have stayed the same since (plus or minus 1lb). I'm worried that at my 1 month check up my surgeon will think I've not been doing my plan! I have done everything to the letter - Protein first then veggies, get my Water in, very low carbs (20 grams a day). Ugh!! I know it's the "three week stall" but it is just really playing with my emotions! My highest weight was 371, surgery weight 324, current weight 302. 69lbs lost in total, 22lbs since surgery. I think we just need to keep on with the plan and we'll break through!

19 days out No energy and not losing much?

I felt much the same as you did at 4 weeks out -- and don't forget the oft-mentioned "three week stall" which I got about the 4th week. Sounds like you may be there yourself. Your body is learning to live on many fewer calories so you'll have a lack of energy/stamina for a while. I'm just over 5 months out now and feel great -- I started going to exercise classes at about 6 or 8 weeks and had enough energy to do OK but it has gotten better over time. Worrying makes you feel worse too!
  14. Most likely three week stall. Be patient, it will come off.
  15. I went for my 4 week post op visit and I didnt know about the three week stall and I talked to the PA about my weight loss stall and she told me that I wasnt losing because I was eating too few calories. She told me I had to eat at least 1000 calories a day. I managed it for a few days, but I am back down to about 850. I am getting all the protein in, but its just so hard to get those calories right now. I am trying, but some days I don't get there, but I do get my protein in.
  16. You said not to mention weight loss stalls, But I believe the "three weeks stall" can last several weeks. I can't advise any more than that because you didn't give much information on what you're doing etc. but it will happen. Hang in.
  17. I was sleeved April 7th and dropped 23 lbs VERY fast. Then nothing. I kept reading about the three week stall and just tried to believe that it would start up again, but I was getting very discouraged. I was weighing everyday and would be anywhere from 249 to 251. This past weekend I went out of town so I couldn't weigh (and didn't need to). I just focused on protein and fluids and did A LOT of walking. I weighed this morning - 242! Hallelujah!!!

    Disappointed And A Little Sad

I am 4 months out and have only lost 52 pounds, so I'm behind you!! I have been on a three week stall and feel huge today!! I laughed when a coworker told me I looked really skinny. I'm like - um, 210 pounds on a 5' 3" gal is skinny? Compared to 262 pounds I guess it is. We all have our good days and our bad ones. Try not to think about what others say or what you THINK they are thinking - you are most likely way off base. I hope you can get your mindset it a better place. We're here for you!!

    1 month post op

most of us experience our first major stall within the first month or so after surgery. We call it the "three week stall" since it's often the third week post-op, but not always. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. And no, your body isn't done. I'd lost about 10 lbs by the time I hit my first stall, and I ended up 20 months later down over 200 lbs. if you stick to your plan, the stall will break and you'll be on your way again. If it's getting to your head too much, then stay off the scale for a few days. The stall typically lasts 1-3 weeks.
  20. I'm so glad to hear there's a "three-week stall" because I think I'm there. I think part of mine is constipation, too. I've started taking Miralax in hopes of turning that around. I'm down 22 since starting pre-op liquids, but nothing the past week. So frustrating, even though I seem to be losing inches still. Here's hoping we all see a big WHOOSH soon!

Post Op Diet - Week 3 of Liquid Diet

First of all do not panic. You are in the famous three week stall, it can come anytime but week three is the famous "three week stall" you can google it. You cannot work your way out of it, it just happens and your not doing anything at all wrong, it will pass. Second, I found that warm things were much better for me that cold or even sweet things. But remember this is just a stage, it will pass super quick and before you know it you will be on to the next stage and this will just be a memory. Try not to hurry on to the next stage, you may feel ready and you may be healed up on the outside but you cannot see the incisions or the surgical sites on the inside and you just had major surgery. Its important to let that stuff heal the way it needs to. Proper healing is very important for long term success!! So just go with the misery of the full liquids for the time and choke down the soups and the protein shakes until you get the go ahead to move on to the next stage and before you know it you will be eating regular foods (at a much smaller portion) Try drinking a warm bone broth when you think your hungry, they are high in protein and will fill you up and count towards protein and liquid. They also will leave you feeling full longer than a regular broth

Post Op Diet - Week 3 of Liquid Diet

yep - three week stall. Happens to almost everyone. Last time I checked, there were over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I'm NOT kidding!) just stick to your plan and it'll eventually break. They usually last 1-3 weeks (mine lasted two weeks. Once it broke, I dropped like 6-8 lbs in a couple of days)

    emotional/stress eating

Thanks for the encouragement. I am at least learning my triggers so I can manage them better. I am currently in my first stall I think. I lost 1/2 pound last week. That hasnt happened yet for me till this week. I didnt eat crazy, I just thought about it. I never had the three week stall so I guess its my turn. I hope next week is better. Good luck with your BF.
  24. The three week stall is experienced by just about everyone but it can happen from week 2, 3 or 4 & can last 1-3 weeks. And you’ll experienced it again along this journey. Yes, it can really screw with your head. I thought of them as your body saying stop. what the hell are you doing to me or it taking a breath as it gets used to the changes you’re making (reduced food intake, changes to activity levels, the surgery, etc.). Leave the scales alone for a few days. Did you take body measurements before your surgery? Sometimes you’ll see changes on a tape measure before you see them on the scales. This is hard work. A lot of reflection, emotional ups & downs, changing habits & establishing new routines but it is sooooo worth it. Best decision I ever made. So many benefits. Keep a list of all your non scale victories a long the way to keep you motivated. Take photos of your shrinking body. You’ll get through this & other hiccups along the way.

    Stalled

This is not a stall. Start measuring yourself and recording it as well. You will hear talk around here about the dreaded three-week stall. If you're losing anything, you're not experiencing it.
