    The dreaded Weight loss Stall

I just went through the 3-week stall and wondered when the next one would happen. Gosh, mine only lasted about 4 days and drove me nuts now you're telling me a one or two week stall is coming up. I will have to stop getting on the scale daily. It just sits there each morning saying step on me. Thanks for the heads up, and I will try to be patient on the long journey ahead.

February Sleevers - how are you doing?

Surgery 2/9. Lost about 15 before surgery, around 13 after that. Hit a 3 week stall where I think I gained 5 pounds! Lost the 5 pounds over the past 2 weeks so I'm back at 13 after surgery. Crazy. I take solace in that I have gone down several sizes from a size 22 to an 18 and people are noticing!

    Having a NSV!

I think you are just in your Week 3, 3-week stall, which is just part of the process (but tough when you are in it). Its funny how the weight and measurements operate independently. This morning, I was getting ready and my shorts literally fell down below my hips, LOL and woot!
  4. Just. Breath. You are going through the normal, happens to everybody, 3 week stall. After losing 26 pounds, your body is taking a break. You will NOT continue to lose a pound a day from here on out. It's not realistic. Once your completely normal stall is over, you will balance out to more 2-4 pounds a week losses. This particular stall you just have to ride out. I would suggest upping your calories to 500 at this point, and making sure you're getting at least 60-70 grams of protien. Be patient with the process. If you're as dedicated to it as you say you are, it will work. The weight isn't just going to fall off. You've got to put in the work, time and patience, and you will reap the rewards. This may be your first stall, but it certainly won't be your last. It's all just part of the process.

    Struggling

Yep, it's your first stall. Don't fret it. I'm in my second stall after almost 5 months. This one has lasted a long time, but I've already lost almost 75 pounds. I hit my first stall right on schedule...the dreaded 3 week stall. Stalls will happen over and over. You just have to go with the flow and keep doing the good stuff...exercising, eating healthy, feeling positive.

    First Major Stall

I am totally with you. I am about 15 weeks out and have been on a very frustrating 3 week stall. I dont feel like I've changed my diet or exercise other than maybe I should be working out 5-6 days a week instead of 3-4. I also get in about 30-40g of protein a day and am wondering if that's affecting my diet and hair loss. Keep up the good work so far!!

    3 week Post op update!

Hi Kat! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Yes, each day my priority is protein and Water. I'm so glad discovered the GNC Wheybolic 60 because immable to bang out 90% of my protein goal by Breakfast. Please note that i make the shake at 7:30 am, and it takes me until nearly noon to finish it (when 2 scoops are mixed with 8 oz milk it makes about a 12-16 oz shake). I add some water too to thin it out a bit, otherwise it's pretty thick and sits heavy on my sleeve. As far as supplements, I take nexium (PPi) and Actigall (to preserve the gallbladder daily). I also take flintstones complete multi vitamins. I will only take the actigaull for 6 months, and the nexium as needed after that. I did purchase an Iron supplement just in case, but probably won't start it until my 3 month labs are done, and only if my iron is low at that point. I'm a big milk/yogurt eater too, so I haven't needed any Calcium supplement, I'd definitely meeting a healthy level each day. Honestly, I think the biggest key to my loss right now has been the gym. I started back at the 2 week mark doing low impact cardio (elliptical, bike, arc trainer, incline walking) and I'm pretty sure that helped me skirt past the dreaded 3 week stall that most people encounter. I had been weighing daily at that point and noticed my loss starting to slow dramatically (.4 pound for 3 days straight) and decided it was time to up the ante a bit. Since that point I've been losing .5-1 lb a DAY. Hoping to prolong this as long as possible...so if I see another slow down I will change up my gym routine again. My intake is around 450-550 calories a day, with 64 oz water/liquids and minimum of 60 grams protein a day...most days I'm hitting a good bit higher (today was 94!). Hope this helps!
  9. Most people stall around 3 weeks, just do a search of 3 week stall and you will be amazed at how many posts there are. Also dehydration can make you feel extremely nauseous so you might need to get rehydrated by iv, many people deal with that too. Personally I don't think you need to worry so much about the protein shakes, get in what you can, try adding protein to jello or pudding too to get some additional protein in but your body will be fine. I have not been able to tolerate protein drinks since surgery and I did liquids for 2 weeks pre-op and about 7 weeks post op due to complications yet my labs at 3 months were fine. The MOST important thing is staying hydrated. Try different temps of water, some deal better with hot, some with cold, some with room temp, also many people use CrystalLite (sp?) to change it up some.

1 month after post op loss

I lost 18 pounds my first month. Then I hit a stall and didn't lose for a month. After that I normally lost about 8-10 pounds a month for the next 6-7 months. Everyone is different, so it is hard to compare, however most people do hit the dreaded 3 week stall, so be mentally prepared for it to come. Good luck to you! I hope your reach all of your goals!
  11. I'm five weeks out and just regaining my energy. Definitely sleep when you are tired...that lets the body heal itself. But keep up with the Protein shakes and your Vitamins. And make sure you start eating solid foods on the timeframe your doctor set. Solid foods with protein and some carbs in the form or vegetables are really helping the energy factor for me. I just started eating solids this past Sunday. Remember, your body thinks you are trying to starve it, so it will go into defense/survivor mode. Kind of left over from our caveman ancestors who might have to go long periods before getting their next meal. The body knows it uses less energy when sleeping, so fatigue is part of the process. And the 3-week stall is a real thing for most sleeved patients...another way our bodies take over. It knows fat is needed to keep us warm and it's easy to store for future use. Once you're past the liquids and purees...the "starving" phase...your body will balance out and know you're not starving it. Then it will go back to burning fat for energy. Get lots of sleep this week before you go back to work and just keep up with your Protein drinks. This too shall pass.
  12. Around the time I was 3 weeks post-op, I began a stall. It has lasted for 17 days now. When do these things usually end??? I asked my surgeon's office and they told me to do a couple of days of liquids to try to get things moving along again, so I guess that is what I'm going to be doing. Not happy about it, but if it gets me on the right track again, then that's great. What has your experience been?
  13. Ok so lets start with stats Heighest 270 Surgery: 238.1 Current 223.2 * I actually gained 4 lbs in 3 days* Height 5'7" So let me start off my saying... BLAH!!!!!!!! OK so here goes.. I thought I was doing really well.. I was going to the gym 5 days a week, staying motivated, drinking all my fluids, and trying my best to stay on the program.. Don't get me wrong im not perfect and I did cheat.. normally I don't regret it because I really work my butt off at the gym, but recently I think because I've been justifying my cheat with a "well ill just work extra hard at the gym" im actually seriously sabatoging my progress. Let me say though funny part is im not cheating my eating foods im not supposed to eat.. but because i work in a bar im having a drink instead.. SO NOT A GOOD THING as im only 3 weeks out of surgery. Why am I telling you this... BECAUSE I AM GOING TO HOLD MYSELF ACCOUNTABLE! Now here is the kicker... TODAY I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL FOR SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN ON THE LEFT SIDE... I was in the ER for 11 hours, and they still have absolutely no idea why i have this pain .. i don't honestly think its because of the alcohol, but it scared me enough to realize that even a small cheat can be DETRIMENTAL to my health. As of now i am still in a considerable amount of pain, docs did an iodine test to see if i have any leaks and a CT Scan, all which came back normal.. SO why the pain? If anyone has the answer to that... PLEASE LET ME KNOW. From now on though.. im stickin to the plan cuz one thing i do know.. even though the alcohol may not be causing my ab pain... It sure as hell is contributing to my WEIGHT GAIN! And it is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to early to be gaining weight! I mean ive heard of the the 3 weeks stall... but the 3 week weight gain.. GET REAL! So here is my pledge.... I will abide by the rules, i will still hit the gym, and i will hold myself accountable!

    Hiw many ounces

I am almost 4 weeks post op and am curious about how many ounces everyone is eating at this stage. I have no problems eating or drinking and eat 4 to 5 small meals at 2-4 ounces a day plus at least 1 protein shake. Drink my water and find the crystal lite squirt flavoring helps. I don't concern myself with calories right now and just focus on my protein and water intake. But I feel hungry quite often and am in the 3 week stall, now I wonder if I am taking in to many ounces or not enough. I have lost 25 #'s from pre op to date and am on soft foods. 15. Kate, first things first, you're doing great!! You're a little over 2 months out, not 3 months, so don't beat yourself up. Personally, I cannot eat 8 ounces at a time, but we all are different, different bougie sizes etc. Have you talked to your NUT about it? I try to only eat to where I am mildly full. I know I eat too fast so if I eat until I am only slightly full, I know the FULL feeling will catch up with me! Another thing I have done recently is make myself drink at least one protein drink i the morning. It seems to help me not eat as much later in the day. I have read a lot about eating your biggest meals earlier, so to try to keep on track with that I drink a protein shake in the morning, try to have my biggest meal be lunch which I eat around 11:30-12:00, and then I try to have a decent size protein only snack around 3 before I eat dinner around 5. If I am still hungry later, I will have a protein snack (like chicken) around 7, and I try not to eat anything after that. I just had a 3 week stall myself, and finally managed to break through. I have really been ramping up my liquid intake and trying to be extra mindful to keep the protein up and carbs down. You're doing great, keep it up!!
  16. Hi everyone, I'm about a week shy from being 6mos post-op from VSG. I've lost about 45lbs so far but my weight loss has slowed dramatically. I haven't had a stall yet (didn't even have the infamous 3-week stall) and I'm really lucky for that, but I've been hovering at 155 for about 6 weeks now. It's really frustrating and I don't know what to do differently. I'm staying in my calories (about 1100/day at this point) and trying to stay active and hydrated. Am I just DONE losing weight at 6 months post op???! I still have 30lbs to goal!

PCOS seems to slow down the loss, unfortunately. I’m there. In a 3-week stall right now.

Is your wt loss since surgery? I had mine 23rd and lost 16 pounds prior to and 12 since the surgery. I have been stalled the last week and am really discuraged. I read about the 3 week stall but I also read about all these people down 30 pounds in a month. I do not wt myself everyday or even weekly. I just really want to be less than 300 and that is driving me crazy.

    4-month surgiversary

I had my first stall at week 3 and it lasted 3 weeks. I'm just getting over my second 3-week stall. I've learned that when I stall, it's usually because I need to add more calories. I've recently started eating six times a day. I'm taking in about 900-1000 calories and getting in at least 75 grams of protein.

    Tjmom ... Day 3

Wednesday was 6 weeks: where did the time go....i had the 3 week stall and found another one this week.... It is frustrating, even though i know they happen, it surprises me.... Weight loss, so far: 294 day of surgery (5-2) 257 this morning. (6-16) minus 37 pounds in 6 weeks.... I have to admit, at 4 weeks, when i was ok'd for "normal" diet and i am finding this hard... I am not listening to my stomach and eat more than i should most every meal... It could be 1 bite to much, but each one of those add up...plus, with the 1 bite to much, i get nauseous .... I need your help! would you all please share with me a structured daily menu plan? Maybe a couple days worth....thank you so much... Breakfast: what and how much Lunch: what and how much Dinner: what and how much Snacks? yes or no? I am hoping if enough of you respond i can set up a diet plan for a month or more.... Either, message me here or email me at: tjmom53@yahoo.com Thank you all in advance for your help... Sandy/tjmom

    Plication Surgery

Oh, yes! At about 2-3 weeks post surgery, I went into a stall for THREE weeks!! Drove me crazy, but I just kept reminding myself about the "Dreaded 3 week Stall" and, sure enough, if finally broke! I did have to tighten up my calories and carbs a little before it did, but it did break, and that was all that counted!
  24. So after I lost all the water weight from surgery, I lost 10lbs- all by week 1.5. Now? Nothing. I'm just past my 2 week mark now. Did I get the infamous 3 week stall early? Also sick of feeling kinda crappy multiple times per day. And who has time to eat 8x per day?? And do they really expect it to take 1/2 hour + to eat 2oz of food?? Very frustrated.

    5 1/2 months

So, I haven't been on here in a while, and decided to give an update. I just posted some pictures that I had taken back in June when I was at 222 pounds. I just came out of a 3 week stall and am now at 205 pounds. It was frustrating to not lose anything for such a long period of time, but I think it was because I wasn't exercising as much as I had been due to all that has been going on at work. (Just now getting frustrated typing this because the enter button won't work in this box!) I am happy about my weight, not so much about the saggy skin that is coming up in places where I didn't expect. I also haven't been this weight since after having my son 20 years ago. It's nice and I'm excited to see how much more I will lose and how much better I will look.
