    Tight

My band has seemed very tight in he last week. I've got 4cc in it. Am scheduled to go to surgeon on Thursday. Will not be getting a fill. I've read others have a right band during hot weather? I can't think what else could be causing it. I'm not having problems but have to be very very careful and chew tons. (This is new in the past week). So I'm guessing it's the weather or a very delayed response to my last fill 4 weeks ago.

    2 month stall?

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process. Other than a stall at about three weeks post-op, I am not aware of a particular pattern that applies to everyone. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

  5. I had lap-band surgery 18 months ago, and have LOVED it!!! I changed my lifestyle to include eating right & exercising and have reached my goal weight! I started having problems about 6 weeks ago, after I completed a triathlon!!! I took some Advil to help with joint pain (which I had not taken since my surgery) and feel like it caused some irritation in my stomach lining. I don't know if this is the cause of my band slippage, but I have to wonder. I had thrown up maybe a dozen times throughout my 18 months after surgery when I ate some dry meat and it just seemed to "get caught" and not "go down". Maybe that was the start of the band slippage. Whatever the reason, since my Advil usage, it has now slipped to where I can only drink smoothies and have terrible gerd. I don't know whether to do lap-band surgery again -- only to have it slip again -- or do the "sleeve". My doctor says that once you slip doesn't mean it will slip again, but does it? I love the option of being able to adjust the band throughout my lifetime (which hopefully is at least another 20+ years), or is the sleeve the best option for maintaining my weight since I have reached my goal weight? Please help me with this decision.... Tell me the pros & cons....

  7. I'm 5 weeks out. And personally, a new band every 10 years would be worth it to me. I guess I was wondering what your immediate impressions are of the band post op? I was frustrated immediately following the surgery. You don't have restriction at that point... you still get hungry (or at least I did). I had swelling for 2 weeks, so wasn't starving, but after that I could have eaten a horse! Thank goodness for fills! People warn you that the first 6 weeks is for healing & that any weight you lose during that time is from will-power & is a gift... but you don't realize it until you're in it. It's a long time! And of course everyone you've told is looking for your weight loss, lol, and you're sitting still. Irritating. Are you amazed? I am amazed at how quickly the pain faded. At the time, it seemed unending, but it really was gone quickly. I wasn't this far along this quickly after knee surgery! Currently, after my first fill, I'm amazed at not being hungry. I know I'm still able to eat more then I "should", but it's SO much less then I used to eat. I can be patient & wait for my fills to limit my eating further. What a tool! Are you disappointed? I was disappointed with myself & my will power during the healing period (I didn't limit my calories at ALL, lol). I'm not disappointed with the band at all. It's too early to tell, but it seems to be working amazingly! Are you tickled pink? Maybe light pink, lol. I am excited & thrilled to think that this is actually going to work. That even if I cheat... even if I binge... the band will limit how much damage I can do. What a blessing! Are you mourning food? Yes. I don't think I was really prepared mentally. I'm not sure there is a way to GET prepared. You don't know how you'll react until it's gone. I can actually eat anything I want -- bread, Pasta, rice, steak, you name it. But I can't eat as MUCH as I want, lol. It irritates me, lol. I'm sure I'll get over it in time... I'm working on it!

    Thank all of you!

I'm trying to still stay within the guidelines, but it's hard when I got the lapband because I couldn't control my eating in the first place. For about two weeks after my fills, I feel restricted and can't eat even the 1/2 cup of food at meals and do lose weight, but then I become able to eat anything and it is a constant fight to not eat constantly. I don't know if I am just not restricted enough or maybe have a leak of the saline. I'm getting another fill next week and hope it helps. I'll talk to the doctor then too.

    4 weeks post OP

call your doc and ask if you can eat for peter's sake... my doc moved me on to normal foods after two weeks. i was able to drink all i wanted, and i would stop eating after twenty minutes of mushies, but i never got full, and still have not backed up. today, for lunch, i ate a grilled hamburger patty...probably 4 oz cooked, and a spoon full of turnip greens. The i ate some sugar free pudding, and still could have eaten more. I have absolutely NO NO NO restriction. Sounds like you may be in the same boat with me. I am 3 weeks post op now. my doc let me eat at two weeks, he just reminded me to CHEW chew CHEW and STOP when I start to feel fullness/tightness/backing up/etc...but i really have not had any of that(except for once when I ate too fast, dern that first bite). good luck!! (gosh, gotta love wheetsin, but man, i would love to hate her...50 lbs in a month? who does that!!!! {winks at wheetsin!! Congrats sister!})

    Liquid Preop and calories

I was not given any instructions on how many calories to consume in the first 3 weeks. I don't track my calories, but rather protein, ounces, and sodium. I would guess I am around 400 calories.

    Portable Foods

My husband travels a lot for his job too and this was one of his concerns as well. He decided to take protein drinks and bars with him when he was travelling and eat his one meal a day out. He's always home on the weekends and travels every other week except in the summer. So, he's just decided to suck it up when he has to be on the run and stick to protein shakes and canned fruit (in natural juices of course). When you do eat, you'll be well advised from your doc and nutritionist, to eat with NO distractions, take tiny bites, chew and chew and chew some more, not to drink for a certian amount of time before and after meals. Hope that helps answer your questions Good luck in whatever you decide

    Very Bummed

mine is also from surgeries and it is the worst he has seen and this will be my 3rd repair. Mine is about the size of a basketball. Very painful at times. This does give me some hope. i will know in 2 weeks.
  19. Everyone is different. There is not even an average really from what I've read on the boards for over 2 years. For me, I was stuck at 2oz of dense Protein until I was over 4 months out. I stuck to mushy/soft protein such as deli meat with cream cheese, chili, ground meats with some sort of sauce, chicken/tuna/egg salad well into my 3rd month post-op because I could get in the calories and protein goals without having to use shakes which made me puke so I stuck with what worked. I was moved to "regular" food on week 4 of my post-op diet, but I really had a tough time getting in a decent amount of food until 3.5-4 months out. I could eat puree meats, or chili, or meats with some sort of condiment, so those are little tricks I used to get in more protein from food sources. Some don't really struggle after the first 6 weeks, or they just supplement with shakes. I didn't have that as an option so I stuck with what worked for me. A lot of it was also the fact that I did have a leak and lost additional stomach tissue with my revision from the band so I had more trauma than most, but then there are others that report the same thing and they had zero issues with their sleeve nor had any complications.

    Qeustion about port site

I didn't have a swelling around the port site. I don't know if it would be normal or not. But you said it feels warm after 3 weeks? I would contact your surgeon just to be on the safe side.
  21. 2 weeks should be pretty good. If you need "light duty" your doctor can write a note and your employer must honor it. I had a longer recovery because it was a pretty extensive surgery. My lifting limit was 5 lb for 8 wks. Best of luck to you!

The things I need to know.....

§ Start getting in better shape. I walked, lifted, and did as much as I could 5 times a week getting ready for surgery. § Started practicing eating slower for lunch. § Watched many videos, talked to people who had been through it. § Oh, but best work was preparing for the mental changes with my therapist and worked through this book: http://www.amazon.co...=bariatric book § I drank a great deal of alcohol so I weaned myself off and slowly cut the caffeine. § Followed the pre-op diet to the letter § Shopped two weeks before surgery for the foods I would need for the first two weeks. § Revised my will and power of attorney just in case something went wrong § Tried pureed meal ideas before surgery so I had some meal plans.
  23. So, my surgery is in four hours. 5:30 am 14 May. I really should be resting, but I can't. First, I got up 2:00am 13 May for the nine hour to the hospital. I slept for three hours, and been up since then. I been trying relax, but I can't do it. I'm a little anxious, because of excessive scare tissue, it might not be done. However, I'm sure what to expect if it is. Like, why I'm I really doing this? I fought for over a year w/insurance and being in compliance, now it's here and I'm questioning myself. Has anyone else had these random thoughts prior to surgery? Guess I'll try to rest for four hours, please post any comments. Thank you, VAMP
