I'm torn. Gastric or Sleeve?

When I had my revision I thought go big or go home too, I did the sips/loop DS. I have zero regrets. Whichever you choose, good luck to you! -
I'm torn. Gastric or Sleeve?
NewStart95987 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had lapband in 2011. Got pregnant almost right away, finally years later had 2 fills. I have vomited almost daily now for years as well. After many life changes (divorce, new career, etc) I'm ready for me. I saw my surgeon today and had the 5cc's in my band taken out and I noticed the moment it was out. That pressure was gone but for me, it was normal. So I start my 6 month process of hoops now for the insurance. I'll be paying plenty out of pocket along with it but I'm torn. I was totally ready for Sleeve but now I'm wondering. Go big or go home? Enough screwing around and just do the gastric. My surgeon (same who did my band) agrees wholeheartedly on a revision but she herself said there is no winner. She thinks both would be fine since I'm not a heavy or sweet eater. I'm just scared and I have time but..... Any help? BTW, Back at the heaviest I have ever been, just not sure how to update my profile on here. -
I had a gastric sleeve in September 2014, four days later was taken to the ER and life flighted to Seattle 5 hours away. I had a leak in my stomach where when he removed part of my stomach and put it back together an area didn't staple all the way creating a leak in my stomach or a hole. I was very sick for over a year. It would not heal. After a year a surgeon said it's not healing on it's own so we can do open surgery where i remove most of your stomach to cut out the leak. It ended up being a by-pass surgery. Then after 6 months I fell sick again with fever, pain, etc and went to the ED. They found another leak in a different part of my intestines where I was sewn back together at some junction. It was a 10 percent chance of happening with a revision surgery. So, since then I have had many endoscopy's where they have attempted to go down stitch, cauterize, glue the hole to no avail. I have a chronic hole that leaks into the sterile part of my abdomen, I have been wearing a drain tube to collect the fluid the hole puts out of my abdomen for almost 3 years. Without being able to drain out the fluid I would become sick and possible septic again. It's been over three years of misery. I have been being treated at a large hospital in Seattle all this time. They cannot fix me. There has to be other people that have had these issues and has somehow been able to get it fixed. I am looking for specialists, ideas, anything. Thank you so much!!

A question for those that are 6 months out and more.
SIPS in Seattle replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m at 6 months. Also similar stats with you. 5’6 highest weight was 242, I was 226 on day of surgery (8.8.17) I don’t count calories and only estimate ounces and protein. Currently 16lbs away from goal. I was a band to sips/loop DS revision so loss has been slower but expected. I plan on starting back at the gym... hopefully soon. I’m pretty sure I get over 1000 calories a day though. I don’t have any issues with foods I cannot eat or tolerate. -
Hi everyone! I had my revision from sleeve to mini bypass on the 7th, discharged on the 9th, back at work on the 10th. No gas pains (I did walk a lot!) No pain killers either. Really happy with my progress, was nervous on my surgery eve but that feels like a distant memory now. Good luck everyone SW 165 After sleeve 125kg Conversion to MGB surgery 7th Feb weight 125kg Goal weight 70kg

February Surgery Buddies!
Katieisin replied to Lyds85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is today , 12th Feb. 2am here and in hospital at 6.30am. This is my nightly ritual as the reflux seems to be so horrible at nights. I will be having revision from sleeve to bypass. Sleeve gave me hideous GERD and did not lose a kg! Sent from my SM-T815Y using BariatricPal mobile app -
Has anyone had a gastric bypass with a starting BMI lower than 30? I had gastric sleeve two years ago. I lost 40 pounds within six months, then plateaued, and then regained 10 lbs. I also have severe GERD. So, my insurance approved the revision to bypass (shocking/surprise). My surgery is next week. When I started my pre-op diet I was at a 29 BMI, now I'm at 28 BMI. I'd like to hear from anyone who's had bypass with a low BMI, as I'm concerned with malnutrition and losing too much weight.

Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
LaLaDee replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Check out this article: https://www.bariatricpal.com/magazine/622-types-of-bariatric-surgery-by-the-numbers-and-what-it-means/ Lap bands work for some people and I don't see the point of attacking individuals who have had great success. That said, there is a big chance of complications with the band. I live in Australia, where there were an insanely high rate of lap bands performed and now they are out of favour. Interestingly, if people are looking for a non-permanent, less invasive strategy they are getting the balloons. I think we'll see a growth in that. I wanted a lap band and my surgeon was like no. He has performed thousands of WLSs and basically won't do them anymore. Apparently, he constantly does revisions from the lap band to VGS or bypass. His view is that the lap band doesn't work long term for most people. There's no correct answer but make sure you get medical advice and are comfortable with your decision. -
Revision from Sleeve to Loop DS
Caribe replied to GigiNFortWorth's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The main difference is since my sleeve did not get revised, I don't have the tightness when food hits my sleeve like before. Also you heal much faster at 2.5 weeks I can eat anything I've tried so far. This week I've had chicken and even meatloaf. I still chew forever because I don't know how long it takes my small intestines to heal. I've lost 16lbs since surgery. Weight loss is slower the second time around, but I expected that. Sleeve to MGB — Weightloss Results
Hello2018 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m highly leaning towards revision from sleeve to MGB rather than RNY. 1) Total weight loss to-date since conversion to MGB? 2) How long since your surgery? Stalls? 3) Did your doctor take the standard 200 cm or a different sizing & 30/40ml sizing? 4) Did he take precautions, extra staples to reduce chances of bile refux? I’m 48yr old, 205lbs, 5’2. My reflux from VSG 6yrs ago is unreal! Leaning towards MGB what wanting to justify the reward as I’m self-pay. Thanks -
3 weeks post op and just lost 9 pounds
KatFight replied to Miami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Miami. I haven't had a sleeve revision but my weight loss was slow and frustrating after vsg surgery on 12/28/17. After surgery, I lost 7 lbs, 2nd week - o, 3rd week - +1 lb. (really! lol), and then 9 lbs. 9lbs. In 1 week! I weigh every Monday. You will have more weight loss coming. It's just going to happen when it chooses to. Stick to your path to health and you'll eventually reach your goal. It will all be more than ok. [emoji471] -

Any body with sleeve revision? Did it work? -
Good afternoon ladies. I see a few of you are having revision surgery from the lap band. Do you mind if I ask why you think it failed to work for you? I was looking into having band surgery and I’m curious. Thanks in advance.

3 weeks post op and just lost 9 pounds
Miami posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a gastric sleeve revision on January 23, 2018. I have lost only 9 pound, which I lost the first week... nothing after that. I am afraid this won’t work for me again! -
I am currently working off a gain - about 15 down; another 25 or so to go... I am 6 years post revision to sleeve. First, you do still have a sleeved stomach and I think it is possible to leverage it even now. For me, it takes FOREVER to lose weight now but I just can't care about that - I just have to keep losing or maintaining, not gaining. I am also working out and just getting toner, so I feel better. If I don't eat like a sleever, you wouldn't think I have a sleeve. I have always eaten half or less portions, etc - but I still have had regain that I am now turning around. Food wise, high protein (dense protein first), veggies and really don't eat traditional carb sources like rice, bread, noodles. Don't eat alot of processed foods, skip fast foods, make your own meals and freeze them ahead. Find favorite easy to make "go to" foods - and keep the junk, sliders and carby food out of the house, or at least out of sight. Some people find food journaling helpful. Make sure you aren't drinking your calories. Truth of the matter is that people regain post RNY also, after a certain amount of time it is less about the surgery and more about "compliance". I hate that, but it is true. I think your plan to tackle this is a good one, just don't be discouraged at the much slower weight loss this time around.

Revision from Sleeve to Bypass
miss_smiles posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, I've been on here for awhile - and originally had gastric sleeve surgery in March of 2016. After my original surgeon made the sleeve too big (words from my current surgeon after having an upper GI study) and me gaining weight, and not loosing any - we both agreed I need a revision. DESPITE the failure of the sleeve being the surgeons fault, I need to still go through insurance hoops, the psych visit, 6 months weigh ins, nutritionist,. etc. So I have 2 questions: 1. Has anyone switched from a sleeve to a bypass, and what were your results? 2. Has anyone needed any type of revision and needed to go through the entire insurance process again? Thanks! -
Please stop binging! It's not going to help you at all. Perhaps you will consider a revision to a sleeve or bypass.

Revision from Sleeve to Loop DS
GigiNFortWorth posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello, just looking for someone that’s going through their weight loss journey or already had it done, similar to mine. I guess a support person, only my fiancé knows I am doing this, but he doesn’t have weight issues, so I am feeling alone. I had the Sleeve 2 years ago, February 10 2016, my starting weight was 276 and about a year and a half out I was at my lowest weight, 198. I then found out I was pregnant and miscarried 2 weeks later at 8 weeks. Since then I have gained 30 pounds back, emotional eater. The sleeve didn’t resolve my type 2 diabetes and is much worse now. I met with a different surgeon last week and he thinks my best bet is to have the revision to the Loop/SADI. Has anyone done this and is happy with it or regrets it? I would love feedback, I just want to be healthy and not have to use 2 insulin’s 4 times a day. Thanks for listening. Sorry so long.
