First Post Op Weigh In
winnada replied to jaxmama23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm confused.... Sx was on April 29th, today is May 8th that's only 9 days - not 3 weeks. Is my math wrong? I'm just confused. I am sorry if I read your post wrong. I'm trying to figure out what is typical for 1 week POST OP weight loss only, not the PRE op stuff too. -
Today is the day to empty my closet
BeGuiled replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats quite allot of stuff there, should fill a good portion of any good will box , lol. I'd suggest, just dump most of them, get it over with and feel good about it, kiss the cash good bye and start a-new feeling even better with new stuff but not suffer over loss of those old clothes. Some time I will have a normal sized dresser drawers too. I'm just started losing and willing to hang on to my fatty clothes until I just can not wear them at all. Lot's of luck with the last few. hmmm, or sell ??? -
BCBS of IL 24 Months of Weight Loss Attempts
ParrotheadCathy replied to jessress87's topic in Insurance & Financing
Bottom line is, if you're obese, your PCP or OBGYN has talked to you about weight loss. May have pressed you to make efforts, offered diets to try, whatever. If you have a history of regular doctor visits, you have the basis of that history in your doctor's files and a letter from that doctor with expanded information from you incorporated will likely be enough! -
A little confused

Good reply Elfiepoo, and congratulations on your non-scale victories. Don''t forget about exercise, the muscle we may be adding weighs more than fat, so the scales can't show us that change. Also a very good point is that my reason for the surgery was more to be sure I could keep it off once lost not to lose weight quicker. The early weight loss does help to remind us of how much better things can be if we lose weight and I know I'm needing a reminder to keep on track. -
Great reply. And congratulations on your inches lost. And especially your sugar coming down. That's awesome. See alot of people forget that it's not all about the weight-loss. It's about everything else also.

all of the sudden, less restriction

My doc told me as I lose weight the band my get lose as well. I like both advice, probably weight loss, also caused by other factors. Give it time and take notes, look for patterns, get to know your "new" body:thumbup: -
On 3/6/07 I started the Pre/Post diet to jump start my weight loss again. I am sick of these 13 or so pounds lingering around. So today is day two and I only had my Nectar shake for breakfast. I also took a Lipo6 so I am not hungry even at 6:48 (cst). I go for my 3rd fill on 3/20 and I really hope Dr. T will give it to me. The last time he said I didn't need one ! Well I know I need to drink another shake or have some broth. Until next time... Be blessed! P.S. It's finally SNOWING!!!!

If you want to see something scary, check out the pictures of Jocelyn Wildenstein. This woman has had so much plastic surgery that people are afraid to look at her. My friend Jody had to entertain her while working at an upscale hair replacement salon in Manhattan. :yuck: http://www.awfulplasticsurgery.com/archives/000351.html You have to scroll down the page to view what she looks like now.

Newbie in research stage
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to Anilyn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In the United States a lot of people see the surgeon at the bariatric program first, then begin progressing through the motions of pre-op, and somewhere in that whole circus go to their primary care doctors and get the required referral. Insurance requires the PCP letter (not an issue in Canada obviously) and the surgeon also generally requires it for his own purpose. I highly doubt your PCP will refuse to issue a letter of referral once you are any more than knee deep with the bariatric program. I attended a weight loss information session and within two weeks of that I was able to see a surgeon in the same hospital as the one that gave the session. That is another way in. -
From what I have read, everyone loses at a different rate. I am 6 weeks out from surgery and I have lost 20lbs since surgery. I lost 16 prior to surgery for a total loss of 36lbs. I just had my first fill yesterday. So I think you are doing great!
-
You are doing great with your weight loss! I have lost 29 pounds so far and it has been 10 weeks. You had your surgery a week before me. I'm sorry about your loss, but to have gone through the surgery and to have gotten this far you are a strong person! Take it one day at a time. Start taking your vitamins, maybe with your protein drink. Are you exercising? That is my downfall. You can do this! I will pray for you!

at that point I was only cleared for walking. right now you should just be focused on recovering from surgery. the weight loss will come and stalls are normal.

Feeling frustrated and depressed
queenmab replied to queenmab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement! I am feeling better and more positive now and will keep following my program and hope that my weight will come off. It is a long journey and I know I cannot expect miracles. Plus, I am hypothyroid and I know that will make weight loss even harder even with this new tool. -
I was recently reading that between 3 and 6 months post-op is the most crucial time for hair loss. The article says taking an extra Biotin supplement of 3 mg twice a day will help prevent hair loss. So off to GNC I went and they had a chewable Biotin? Is anyone taking this and did it help? I have really thin hair so was just wondering about it?

Help needed please..."hell"
MissBS replied to patricksmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I could have written your post after my surgery. I was hungry when I was rolled into the operating room and I was hungry when I was rolled into the recovery room. I had NO restriction after my surgery. I could eat anything and found it very hard, and confusing, and didn't know what I was supposed to be doing. There were times I wondered if they had really even put a band in me. I measured and ate what I was supposed to - not what I could - but it was rough. Of course there were times I ate too much or somehting that might not have been the best choice.... but I did the best I could. I had NO restriction until my 3rd fill, which was 3 months after my surgery. You are NOT a failure - you are normal. I don't think you should go back to liquids or mushies - just keep trying to eat like you should. I don't think most people have great weight loss until they get restriction. Keep reading - there are a LOT of people like you.... struggling with the fact that you are using willpower alone right now. Just do your best and don't get discouraged. Once you start getting fills, things should get better. Keep reminding yourself why you did this. One day at a time.... that's my motto. Good luck and take care. Becky -
positive band stories are what I look for. I know that not everyone is successful for one reason or other. I have the deepest sympathy for anyone who has serious complications. I am however so grateful that I made the decision to change my life and become healthier and happier. I had my lapband Jan. 15, 2013. At age 66 I had come to the realization that my health was taking a turn that might be irrepairable. Diabetes was worsening, high blood pressure and high cholesterol was threatening my life. My Primary Doctor knew I had tried for many years to lose weight . I had tried every weight loss program and even had a personal trainer. I lost weight but never was able to maintain the loss long enough to change my health issues. Weight loss surgery of any kind is not a guarantee for success but I will say that having my band as a tool has helped me maintain my loss for over 3 years. I hope to see more successful outcomes for everyone. No matter what surgery you choose, the important part is you have taken that step forward to a better life.

My answer would have been "fine, how's your weight loss program going? You're looking a little out of shape."

I have aetna and I definitely did not have 24 months of weight loss history. I only had the 6 months that they required. I got a letter from one of my other providers stating that I have been trying to lose weight for 2 years. It was like 2 paragraphs stating my bmi and height. my history of weight loss attempts and methods. I work for the providers office that is doing my surgery on August 28th. I got approved in less than a week. So at least get the doctor who is not the primary care to write a letter stating you been trying for 2 years. hope this helps.

Aetna 2 Year Weight Loss History
kimberlee1235 replied to kimberlee1235's topic in Insurance & Financing
Yeah I know you have to either do the 6 months or the 3 months supervised whateveryouwannacallit, but it also says you must provide a 2 year or 24 month history of prior office visits (not necessarily for weight loss...could be a cold, whatever) just as long as your weight was documented..at least that's what my surgeon says and it also says in Aetnas weight loss surgery guidelines -
When did you start "counting" your weight loss?
Alexandra replied to bunkie68's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've wondered about this myself. Over the last year, since making the decision to get banded, I'd lost almost 30 lbs as a result of a combination of things. But I can't count that as being surgery-related, so I won't consider it when I start posting stats. Then, once I won my insurance battle and knew I was going to get banded, I put back on about 5 pounds doing the last-supper thing. But I don't want to count those either. I'm figuring that my weight on the day of surgery is my top weight for the purposes of tracking loss. Of course, they didn't weigh me at the hospital so I'm really going by the weight at the doctor's office about 10 days before surgery. But since then I'm 11 lbs down and don't intend to let any of them go uncounted! -
When did you start "counting" your weight loss?
bunkie68 replied to bunkie68's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Donali, I like the way you think! I'm going to change my sig to show my 15-pound weight loss right now! -
I'm one week post-op, and down 15 pounds according to my scale. While I'm very excited to see the numbers go down so quickly, I know that drop will slow (or even stop for a bit) once I start getting real food back into my diet. So when did you start "counting" your weight loss as pounds you'd officially lost - did you wait until after your first post-op appointment, or until you started solid food, or did you start counting it right away? (And am I nuts for even asking this?! )

I have insulin resistance (borderline diabetes) so I think the higher Protein, lower carb way of eating just makes me feel better and probably helps my blood sugar. I have heard people say it helps the weight loss, too. I guess you could always try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens. Nancy
