What was your Post-Op diet schedule?
BobbieDoll replied to MissieLyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My instructions were 5 to 7 days of liquids and Protein Shakes. Next I can add any of these 5 items: (1 ounce at a time, 2 to 3 hours apart) refried Beans, sugar-free pudding, low-fat yogurt, egg beaters, low-fat cottage cheese. Next I go on soft foods but don't know what they are. I have to go to a soft foods class next week. I am suppose to get 65 grams of Protein per day. Lots of Water. I drink a bottle of Isopure, which is 30 grams. I mix whey powder in skim milk and blend it in the Magic Bullet. Taste like a chocolate shake. Whey has 23 grams of protein in one scoop. I use 1 1/2 scoops. I have not been hungry. I ate an ounce of refried beans this evening and it filled me up. -

One week post op and I feel really good. Barely any incisional pain left. I feel like I can bigger drinks of water, well more than a sip. I've just been eating soup, yogurt and protein drinks or shakes. My daughters birthday is the weekend and we are having a party tomorrow. I had to go into Subway (smelled like heaven) and GiGi's cupcake to order food and cupcakes for her party. She has to have surgery to remove her Thyroid on Thursday so it will be really hard to to stress eat with a 4 oz pouch. I need to take food with me to the hospital because she'll be in a few days. Hope everyone has a good weekend! HW 229.8 (pre-op) CW 211.4 -
Anyone else dying on your post op diet?
GlenSand replied to BellaBean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am almost done with mushies. I have been adding new foods over the past few days and have been doing very well. I haven't had any bad experiences. For the mushy faze I've been eating cottage cheese, lentil Soup, yogurt and oatmeal. I love all these things and so I haven't ever had a craving for other things. Last week I went out to dinner and ordered soup and broccoli. The broccoli was overcooked and I chewed it to death. Each time I eat I keep all parts of it together below 1 cup of food. I eat slow and am always satisfied for the next 3-4 hours. Tonight I went to a mexican restaurant and had pollo chipotle. It was great and I have a whole bunch left in my fridge! I cut the chicken into teeny pieces and had it with my Beans and a little rice joined in too. 1 cup altogether so I won't expand my pouch! I'm making chili for Super Bowl. I LOVE chili, but at 1 cup at a time means I can have it 3 times tomorrow!!! Happy Superbowl to all! (Go Cards) -

I figured you did add me and that was you. I'm glad you have me on there though. I am so jealous that your gonna be in Florida and on the beach. Where are you going? I am supposed to start the purees tommrow but I've been eating actual foods. The liquids aren't keeping me full at all. I don't think milk settles with me that good so cream of soups aren't good for my stomach. I've been doing smoothies and I've been eating some fruits. I've been having lactose free yogurt too. Even though that has milk, it's low fat and barely in there. I've actually tried chilli too. Lunch meat and cheese. Everything is sitting with me. It was hard at first because I need to learn to eat smaller bites. I've been in a funk the last couple days where I don't really want food. It's bad for me not to follow the diet we are on but if I'm hungry and can't get full on liquids, then I'm gonna try new things. I am at 241 exactly today. So I've lost 15 pounds within this month and with the 10 pounds lost on pre op diet would make 25 pounds all together. Me working and walking more is definitely helping. -
Thanks a lot today I am 2 days post op feeling really good mild too moderate pain a little tired no real issues with the band yet currently working on trying to eat at least 3 to four times a day only been really tasting things like broth yogurt and apple sauce not that I cant eat just haven't been hungry at all working on drinking water not thirsty at all already lost about three to four pounds surgery went really well almost no bleeding I was up and walking and eating right after I got up to the recovery room had my first fart today lol haven't been gassy or anything I hope my good streak continues!

Need some advice :/
playlikeworldchamps replied to ale718's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tuna fish is a great idea. How about scrambled eggs? I also love Fage yogurt which is high protein. Just mash your own fruit first and add it in or some honey or sweetener or even sugar free jam to avoid the sugar carbs. -
Hi jary..i also had gastric bypass on the 26th...stomach still swollen with gas...bu think i saw calve muscles this am...omg!! Lol.. hows your diet going??? I went shopping for soups...yogurts...etc yesterday...90$ lol.. but its nice to know all that food is going to last me weeks!! As i can only eat small portions at a time
-
Yeah i definitely didn't tolerate tuna. Try yogurt, cottage cheese and applesauce with a bit of Splenda, retried beans and some cheese- those are all ones I have tolerated.
-
Welcome. Did your doc/ nut give you a plan to follow post op? If you google puréed foods you will get a ton of good recipes. Ricotta bake is one I like a lot. Homeade soups and broths are a good choice. Yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, and egg salad also.

I like the fitbit flex, gosh it keeps me in line! Yeah the chapstick is a must, And get a pedicure before your surgery. You will not be able to do your tootsies for a while. No do not stock up on everything ...you will get cabin fever. I made my husband crazy with "take me to winn dixie for some yogurt" and I would buy two containers of yogurt. That is cause I wanted to go somewhere. Make sure you get over the hospital stuff, like the drugs the sleepy guy gives you, they will mess you up for a while. I know I had cream of mushroom Soup and cream of chicken, that I would put in a blender and sip for something different. But your taste will change, I would love a salt lick I bought gummy Vitamins from walmart -
I never pureed any thing either. The thought does gross me out. I ate alot of Greek yogurt with unsweetened cocoa or with blended fruits, hummus with homemade cheese crisps, soft cheeses, cottage cheese with tajin seasoning (yum), tofu, nut butters, avocados... Etc

Will I ever enjoy food again?
maintenanceman replied to Heatherhei's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The first few weeks (months) post-op are not at all indicative of what life with WLS is like. At this point, 16 mo post-op, I can eat and tolerate pretty much anything I want. The thing is, my tastes have changed so dramatically. I don't crave garbage food anymore. For breakfast, I used to eat chicken biscuits, fries, muffins, and other junk. This morning, I had a bowl of greek yogurt with banana, berries, and granola, and it was the most delicious thing ever. I could force feed myself the garbage breakfast, but I wouldn't enjoy it. Over time, you figure out your new anatomy and reshape your eating to accommodate it. Even now, almost a year and a half post-op, I'm still testing things out, seeing what works and what doesn't. That's the whole point of the surgery... to force you to make better choices. -
traumatized by puréed
Flamingowatcher2023 replied to BypassTheBS's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was also traumatized by the pureed stage! So glad to know I wasn't alone. I did read a comment that said "Don't forget about cottage cheese!" I'd rather eat pureed chicken. And that ain't happening. I am just a little over 2 months out from my gastric bypass. I am still having quite a bit of trouble swallowing, quite frankly, most meats. I have had most success with very thinly shaved deli ham and turkey. I know I'm supposed to be eating 60-90 grams of protein each day, but I'm not getting it from meat. Fortunately, I love the high-protein Greek yogurt. It is saving my life right now. -
Wondering if I'm doing something wrong
sonnysun replied to sonnysun's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am on soft foods, eggs, refried Beans, avocados, yogurt, tuna--all okay. I don't think the pulled pork was okay. My husband made it in the crock pot and thought it would be okay but after about five bites I thought better of it. It wasn't on my list as an okay food to eat, either. That was my mistake. I am getting all my liquid in but probably not all my Protein, at this point. -

50/50 water juice blend, decaf tea, crystal light is way better, low fat milk, yogurt. Try mixing protein powder any way you can and which is tolerable to you. Good luck. Im two weeks out and I found Vitamin shoppe to be of great help. -
Help - 3rd fill is giving me problems
ReneBean replied to icuwalsh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If chicken makes you PB - stick to beef, pork or fish - or try the dark moist meat on a chicken - vs the stringier breast meat. Lots of people seem to have trouble with poultry - including chicken & turkey. That whole slowing down and taking tiny bites is the whole key to band success... There are a couple of things to keep in mind. 1) When you PB or get food stuck, you need to go on liquids for at least 24 hours after that time - to allow the swelling & irritation in your esophagus to go down. If you DON'T go on liquids - the next food you eat has to get past not only your tight band, but additional swelling - which makes it more likely that you will have the same problem again and again. 2) If, after taking tiny bites and avoiding "problem" foods, you still are having trouble - go back and have your doc take .1 or .2 cc's out. If you aren't taking large bites - Yogurt should NOT cause you any problems. Use a baby spoon and wait for a few seconds between each bite. If there are chunky bits in the yogurt - be sure to chew those. I envy you your restriction! I have NEVER had restriction so tight that I couldn't eat anything. I almost wish that I couldn't eat bread anymore... almost. :] Good Luck and Happy Band Trails! -
5 years out need advice please
Healthy_life2 replied to heatherjane2505's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Way to go! You are getting your head back in the game. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. I never use the bariatric store. When you deprive cravings, you want them more. Are there better options that you can buy for sweet and salty cravings? Hope others can jump in here and help with healthy sweet and salty snacks that are more cost effective. make sure food advice fits your food plan.. Sweet: Plain fruit, fruit dipped in sugar free cholate syrup Salad greens, chicken, strawberries, blue cheese and pecans Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette. Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt sugar free popsicles Roasted pumpkin and apple drizzled with sugar free maple syrup. sprinkle with cinnamon, (small amount with your protein goes a long way) Salty: Veggies dipped in hummus (cut calories by mixing plain yogurt in hummus) Chicken fajitas or taco salad (no tortilla) Parmesan cheese crisps Cup of chicken broth. -
So Orientation was very informative. I weighed in at a whopping 291. Yikes!!! I have an appointment with the surgeon on Oct 15th. So I am starting the pre-op diet to start to lose the weight that the surgeon will reccomend. We went to the store and I got a scale, a food scale, and some food to start. Today was the first day eating smaller portions and goodness I was hungry. Through Kaiser they want you to eat 3 meals a day and NO snacking. So for breakfast I had, at 6am, 1/2 cup of egg beaters, 1 oz fat free cheese, and a yogurt. I was pretty hungry by 9am. So I drank a bunch of water, it didn't seem to help though. For lunch I had 3 oz of deli sliced turkey, 1 green apple, and a yogurt. That was at 11:45. Dinner time felt like it was forever away. I had to wait until my boyfriend got home from coaching flag football, the team won. He got home around 5:30. I know that seems early to eat dinner for some but since I go to work at 6:30 in the morning its not to me. I feel okay right now. I am tired and a little weak feeling. I would think that after a few days of eating this way my body will get used to it. It is challenging but I think that it is good to start early and get used to eating smaller amounts.

Hi rajgrover, I had my lap-band procedure almost 4 weeks ago. I used Dr. Ren as well - great choice. She was really quick with my procedure and I really had a great experience with her. I was a little scared myself. once I was on the operating table the anesthesiologist explained what he was doing and I was out in minutes. Dr. Ren said hello and I was out a few seconds later. They have so many people in the operating room I can assure you they will not have a problem moving you to your bed. You won't know what's going on either way and you'll wake up in the recovery room. Once you're in your room a nurse will assist you and walk you to the bathroom (she will not come inside with you.) I don't know anybody else that had the procedure that had a bed pan or catheter. I got a little dizzy the first time I went to the john but after the first time it was much easier. They really want to make sure you urinate as soon as possible since they want to make sure you got the anesthesia out of your body and not sitting in your bladder. I felt absolutely nothing until after my surgery. I did have some pain but the meds I was given really took the edge off things and the pain went away pretty quickly. Make sure you walk around as much as possible after your surgery. I have 5 stairs leading to my house and I didn't have any problems. I asked Dr. Ren and she said that wasn't a problem. I'd ask her if I were you since she makes her decisions case by case. While Dr. Ren was operating on me she noticed that I had a Hiatal Hernia. She "fixed" it while she was in there and believe it or not I am totally cured of my acid reflux I'd been suffering for some time! I did have gas pains for a few days in my shoulders and other areas. These symptoms are very common and I've heard the more you move around the faster the gas dissipates. I drank bottled fat and sugar free flavored yogurts, "naked" (that's a brand name) fruit juices, slim fasts, and low calorie broths. Good luck with your surgery! You'll do fine, quit worrying and start planning a new you

Raj, Let me speak from a "loved ones" view. Of course you are afraid of the pain, we are always afraid of the unknown. I have seen my husband in so many painful situations b/c of his weight. My heart has actually ached for him. There may be some pain, but it shouldn't be bad and will be worth it. Wayne walked up 30 steps the day after surgery and was fine. Someone bought him a 64oz. sippy-mug, he fills it with Water everyday and drinks the whole thing, that way he knows he is getting the water he needs. He is so encouraged (I almost said excited, but that's me, not him) by the 20 lbs he has already lost that he doesn't gripe about the food. Lots of soup, tea, liquid yogurt, juice and broth. You will burp but it won't be a problem,,,,,it'll be welcome! About the bedpan???? He didn't have to use one, got right up when it was time, was walking 4 hours post-op. And he is 59 years old! Good Luck Raj, let us know your success story!

My condolences of the passing of your grandmother, she sounds like she was a nice person. If you sad, tired, sick , sore, mad, upset it seems like a good idea to eat to make yourself feel better. We have all been there, done that and know it doesn’t help in the long run or even the short term. I will give you the kick in the pants you need/want put down the fried chicken have some yogurt, soup or cereal till you can get some good lean protein. Hurting yourself won’t help you and i am sure your grandmother wouldn’t want you to use her passing as an excuses to fall off the wagon. But since you did don’t beat yourself up...we are in this for a long run....one small slip up doesn’t matter as long as we learn from it and try not to repeat it I have lost all of my grandparents and parents it doesn’t get any easier but the pain does fade and you can celebrate their lives (with good for you food—possible a small drink) Hang in there it will get better

Gastric Sleeve 9/28/15
reree6898 replied to Starting to shrink's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not a peanut butter fan but I have heard a lot of good things about the dehydrated peanut butter powder and that it is less fat/calories then regular peanut butter but adds protein and great flavor to shakes or what. I have ordered some unflavored Protein Powder that arrived yesterday so I'm gonna try to add that to my Greek yogurt and things today to get my protein up. -

Yogurt, cottage cheese, homemade soup broth, once you get to puréed stage you can eat any meat and veggies just purée in your blender. Ricotta bake is a popular recipe also. -
