    Another NSV

Great NSV! My rings were an important one for me. I love my wedding rings as much today as I did 25 years ago when I first picked them out. They are just so pretty. As I packed on weight over the years I had them sized up (about 10 years after I got married). Then I continued to put on weight and they were too small again, so I stopped wearing them . I refused to make them bigger again. After some weight came off with help from the band, I could wear them again and was so happy with this milestone/NSV! But now they are too big and I am back to not wearing them .
  2. I'm 6 wks + a few days post-VSG; 30 pounds down (including a week of stall). Last night for the first time, I went to a restaurant for a sit-down dinner. I usually ordered an appetizer, entree, wine and maybe a dessert. So this was different: 1) holding off on my Water to save room for my food; 2) passing up on ordering any wine/martini; 3) do I just get an appetizer, knowing that that amount is all I'd likely be able to eat?; 4) do I get the entree only? 5) do I tell the waitress why 'no' to this/'no' to that? I ended up only ordering an entree (which, early-bird included a soup; I picked the black bean soup). The Soup came in a rather large bowl containing maybe ~8-10 ounces. I had 3 spoonfuls and stopped. My "crabmeat-stuffed tilapia" with veggies and rice dinner came. The 'stuff' part was perfect: soft, tasty, could've had more. The fish--broiled--went down well and I ate a few pieces of the squash and the zucchini, plus I allowed a few grains of rice, but NOT even a fork full of rice. BUT, bottom line...I brought ~85 % of everything home. (And I DID tell the waitress, but really didn't have to.) Advice: Just order an appetizer, or be prepared to bring everything else home for munching later. Plus, instead of an $50-80 tab, it was $16.00--an "NSV." Any others with advice on this? Thanks.

    Starting Zumba

I've been doing Zumba a few times a week for a while... and I'm by no means skinny. Gyms and exercise classes are not just for skinny folks. If you find a gym that has that attitude.. change gyms!! Zumba is lots of fun. And depending on the instructor and the type of Zumba class you take, the intensity can vary greatly. There's regular Zumba, Zumba Gold (designed for lower impact), Aqua Zumba (Zumba done in the pool), etc. I'm like Hynita, I modify the steps to what I can comfortably do.. and as I get stronger, I try to do more. When the instructor Jumps, I usually jog or march in place. When they do a side step with twisting the knees.. I just side step and don't twist. The important part is to move the body and have fun!! One of the instructors where I go has even bought hip scarves with the little coins on them for one of the songs which is from "Sumdog Millionaire" "Jai-Ho (You are my Destiny " The scarf meets in the middle on the other gals, but not me. Oh well, I'll use that as a NSV when it does meet!! This isn't the class I attend, but it's the same choreography that my instructor uses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r43YzeBfWug LOVE this routine. I encourage you to go and give it a try.. it's so much fun. Like the Zumba site says.. Ditch the Workout, Join the Party! (I still workout too though.. lol).

    BIG NSV

Just wanted to chime in that I got a two-fer when I went to my doctor light headed this week He stopped one of my blood pressure meds... hence the lightheadedness. Then he went on to remove Diabetes from my chart! I nearly cried.
  6. Ok, this may not be important to some, but I did a summer sault today with my teenage girls. I landed in on point. I have not done that or even attemted it in over 20 yrs. Im 34 yrs old and I was outside flipping and jumping with my kids. WOW. cant describe that feeling to be able to play with my children like this. Its almost euphoric. What a blessing. Glory to God

    Stalled, but an NSV

Skinny jeans that are loose... now that is a NSV!! I love it! Just goes to show that the scales don't mean everything... you are defo getting smaller there... Nice one! =]
  10. I've been almost stalled for nearly a month, losing 1/2 to 1 pound a week. Frustrating as heck but I haven't been too concerned about it. Maybe I'm replacing fat with muscle mass, I hope so anyway. A month ago I bought jeans size 22 when I had been wearing size 26. I walked into the living room tonight and said to my hubby, "Look at this." I gathered up about 4 inches of fabric on the outside of each pant leg. He said, "I noticed the other day that they were loose. Why aren't you wearing your new skinny jeans??" I told him, "These ARE my new skinny jeans!!" The look on his face was priceless! I guess I'll be shopping again soon.

    2 big NSVs today

Lila: Congratulations on these two tremendous NSVs! Isn't it amazing how we let so many things that make us happy fall by the wayside when we're gaining weight? It's also an incredibly amazing feeling when we "rediscover" these lost bits of happiness, right? You go girl!
  14. I just wanted to share, not one, but TWO big NSVs I had today! NSV #! When I gained weight, I stopped wearing nice clothes. In fact, I only bought clothes that were absolutely necessary--a few pairs of jeans, some sweaters and Tshirts, and a couple of pairs of shoes--basically, whatever it took to not get arrested . Yet, I love clothes. In fact, I read fashion magazines and go shopping with my fashionista girlfriends; I just didn't want a giant wardrobe in a size I didn't want to be!! But, today, after losing 65 lbs, I decided it was time to get some cute clothes. All my other clothes are too large, and I was just sick of everything falling off of me. So I went to Old Navy, which is pretty affordable, and I figure I'll pass these clothes on to someone else who is losing weight when I "under" grow them! I am soooo happy I did this!!!! It's been sooooo long since I wore an item of clothing I actually like! I know that as I lose weight, they won't fit anymore, but it's so worth it to have some cute clothes. I feel like it's going to help motivate me to keep losing weight! NSV #2: As I gained weight, my jewelry stopped fitting me. And in particular, I have a necklace that has a single pearl that drops off of a chain. It's really simple and cute, and I used to wear it every day, but as I gained weight, it got too tight around my neck... it was so sad to see my favorite necklace sitting in my jewelry box and being unable to wear it. But, today, I got out my old friend---and it fits again! I'm so, so happy!!!!

    NSV!!!

Congrats! I love it when things like that happen. My own unexpected NSV: I have the clothing I wear to work hanging in a separate section of my closet. This morning without turning on the light I grabbed a pair of Dockers cords off the hangar and pulled them on. They fit snug, not tight, but they definitely fit. Then I realized they were a pair I'd purchased online a few months ago before being banded, "in anticipation" of the day I'd need smaller pants. Kind of cool to wear them before I expected to. Dave
  16. For the first time in 15 yrs. I ran last night. I always used the excuse that I had bad knees. The truth being is that I was carrying sooo much extra weight around that my knees just hurt from the pressure on them. Last night I felt like I could have ran forever and it not hurt (my knees of course, lungs being a totally different thing).lol My lungs are not use to the large amount of air following through them yet but that is changing day by day. Funny thing is my friend Laura asked me to join a 5K with her just yesterday and I told her, "No way! I would kill over!". She being the positive and wonderful person she is, said that if she could do it, I could. So now I'm thinking about joining. I love this wonder decision I have made! Oh, I have one other NSV.... I gave away the first pair of jeans that I actually went and bought after surgery. They were a size 13 that I wore for maybe a month. I gave them to my very good friend with pride!
  17. OK, this sounds like a NSV (non scale victory) but since a scale is involved.... tough call. Either way, it is a cool thing to celebrate. Thanks for sharing! I hope you learn to love jumping on the scale and seeing those numbers go down!
  18. I went shopping today as I am needing some smaller clothes!! I tried on a size 12 pants and they were too BIG!!. I like having this problem. I could not find a size 10 I liked so I did not get any today. I quess I will wear my too big and baggy pant to work tomorrow. NSV for me!!
  19. Hi guys I’m Celebrating a new weight bracket today!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I never really set myself a goal as such but I always said around 9-10 stone (126 - 140lbs)⁣⁣ & today I weighed 10 stone 10lbs! (150lbs) ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So close to those goals now! However, I won’t be weighing myself again until 1st April 2020! ⁣⁣I decided to only get the scales out once a month from now on. I was starting to get really obsessed and panicky about the numbers on the scale all of the time so I thought it’s best for my mental health to see them only once a month. Plus, weight fluctuates so weighing daily is just silly at this point in my journey really! Yesterday the skirt was a NSV for me. Been waiting to wear one of these since 2013 lol! Instagram: @charlieannnn Www.instagram.com/charlieannnn I’m about to upload an FAQ to my Instagram TV. YouTube coming soon! πŸ’œπŸŒˆπŸ’šπŸŒ»πŸ’™πŸ’πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’—

    NOT losing weight!

Your body is still adjusting to WTH did you do to me. Don't weigh everyday you will go nuts pick one day a week and weigh if you must. Did you take measurements before? what are they now?? There are NSV you are having that should inspire you. Clothes looser, jewerly loose, smaller clothes. Keep you journal and keep on track the scales will show you hard work soon enough. don't give up. remember this is only a tool and you have to keep working on it. try upping your walking to longer or faster pace. Add DVD excercise tapes or join a step class at the Y. You will be fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Wow, most of my fall/winter clothes are too loose to wear! So almost 2/3 will be heading for donation. Looks like I will be going to the resale shop soon. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App
  23. The other night my boyfriend and I were cuddling on the couch and he had his head on my chest. Out of nowhere he said "you must be in a good shape." I said "HUH?" He repeated himself. I still didn't know what he meant but I never thought I'd hear those words in my life! He said "your heart rate is ___. That's really healthy." (I don't remember what it was exactly.) Yes, he's a nerd. But he's also a cardiology nurse. He knows I've lost weight but not about the VSG. I'm five months post-op and I've known him for less than 3. I keep saying I'm going to tell him but I always chicken out when I'm with him. I've lost 130 and still have probably 90 pounds to lose but after 28+ years of being obese I NEVER expected to hear myself described as "in good shape." However, I have noticed a decrease in my heart rate. I check it before, during and after a work out. I love the NSVs!!! There are so many you anticipate and look forward to and yet still so many you can't even imagine. I hope VSG has positively impacted your life as much as it has mine!
  24. So last night was "Meet the Teacher" night at my youngest two kids High school. Hubby was out of town, so I was splitting up their schedules and doing double duty. First of all- I'm wiped out this am lol. Their school is huge and spread out- and I was running between classes to get to each teacher like a bat out of hell. The NSV's- 1)I did it! Easily!!! From one end of campus to the other, up and down flights of stairs, happily moving through the throngs of people and not ever needing a "rest break" due to pain or inability to walk that much; 2)I ran across tons of people I haven't seen since I began my journey and as I'm waving hello to them, I get a blank look- and then I realized they didn't recognize me!!! Love it!!! Even sick, I was very involved in my community so believe me, there were TONS of people I know that this occurred with last night. Most, upon realizing it was me, were shocked and pleased for me, and it was, plain and simply, exciting and motivating. The downside, I have a cousin I grew up with and live close to- two of our kids are the same age and go to school together. To this day she has not said one word to me about my transformation- nor do I now expect her to. We sat next to each other in a class last night and as one mom friend was congratulating me and gushing over my loss, my cousin just sat there and said zilch. Jealously? Perhaps. But at this moment in time I have decided ***k it- leopards, spots you know? Finally- all that extra running and chasing for 3 hours last night on top my regular workout? scale dropped 2 lbs this am! Love love love my new life!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
