Well I doubt I'm going to be that lucky! As long as I'm not on full liquid diet for as long as some of these guys say, I've seen some say 30 days! I think I'm 7 or 10 day for sure, hopefully 2 shakes a day and a specific meal. That's kinda close to what I do now. How long are you taking off work if that applies to you?

It's official! My surgery date is April 7th! I'm having VSG and also getting my nasty ol' gall bladder removed. I start my pre-op diet on March 28th - 10 days, but it's not too bad. It's kind of like the Slim Fast plan - 2 shakes and a sensible dinner (plus lots and lots of water!) I'm beyond excited! And also nervous and anxious and all that other stuff!

Bypass didn't work, 2 surgical issues

Hi Shone, That sounds really discouraging to go through. I am really sorry that you have gone through all that. I never really lost all that I thought that I should. I started at 243 and my lowest weight was around 170. I have since gained back 20 pounds but started weight watchers in October 2018 and have lost 10 of that. It is def a struggle and the surgery is not the magic bullet I hoped it would be. lol I have since heard about a procedure called the ROSE procedure that is like a revision surgery that I could have done, but I think it is only covered if you have gained back a substantial amount of your weight ( I have not) or you have another co-morbidity (I do not) . But it sounds like you could be a candidate for that. You should check it out. All in all, I am happy I had the surgery done. I feel better than before and I no longer have health issues. I do not eat like I should. But I never did, that is why I struggled with my weight in the first place. You are within your rights to seek another opinion. I still do not think that my original surgeon made my stomach small enough. I am still just plugging along like before, waiting to see what might help me in this epic battle with my weight! lol New stuff comes out all the time. Maybe the next thing will be better. Good luck and let me know how you are doing. God bless you. kim
  5. Hi all 🙂 I need to prep for a revision for next week. I have my old “sleeve” paperwork... is it different you think? Surgeons office said 2 weeks liquid but I did not do that last time with my nutritionist. 🤦🏻‍♀️ (who I’ve called and emailed and don’t have time to go see her again). My surgical coordinator is on vacation, so can’t ask him. Process was started 8-10 weeks ago and day before pre surgeon testing, last Thursday, they denied my revision. I appealed it and 48 hours later it was over turned. Thank God. But now I’m behind The eightball with the liquid diet. This GERD and hernia is horrible. All day non stop GERD. Doing double dose of meds per the surgeon for months now. So, here I am. Unsure if I should start vitamins again, good ones etc. I chew on some gummies when I remember (I know, my bad). Unsure if they are going in lap or endo to do revision. I guess I could call and find out. Suggestions? I have protein shakes and broth. Jello and pudding too. Ice pops.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

I definitely fit in here! When I started my journey, I was 335 at my first consultation in June 2019. I did not do great for my first couple nutrition appointments and jumped up to my highest at 342 in August 2019. I had surgery 12/12/19 and my weight at that point (after FINALLY getting myself on track) was 314. Now, I'm 3 months post-op and have lost 60. I'm currently at 254. I'm in a stall currently and just focusing on trusting the process. I've hit a stall in my exercise routine, but hoping I will get some good news at physical therapy tomorrow that will put me back on track.
  7. I was drinking ensure max protein pre-op and it’s still good, but I prefer to make my own drinks now with water and premier protein chocolate. Sugar free jello and I am surviving on sugar free popsicles. I’m one week Post op today! Also Bone Broth as it has protein. I got this broth at Kroger and it is sooo good! It smells good and tastes much heartier than a regular bone broth, but still has that delicate broth consistency for our recovering tummies. I can’t stomach any other bone broth bc to me it smells like dead meat. Yuck! And this has 10 grams of protein. It’s about 4 bucks more but is great!

Bypass didn't work, 2 surgical issues

Hi, I can see that this was written five years ago but just googled a search to see if there was people the surgery had not worked for and found this. I am wondering how this is going for you all now. Have things turned around? I have had three weight loss surgeries, none of which I would say worked. I first had the band and that was never right. Constantly trying to find the right amount of fluid so that I wasn't vomiting until I have it removed and had the sleeve. I lost some weight with the sleeve and this was okay but go to the point that I started to gain again and rapidly so the surgeon suggested he would do the bypass. I had the bypass 10 months ago and feel like it was never done. I don't have any of the results that people say should occur and had a visit to the hospital to check it was all okay in there. The surgeon says it looks juts like any other bypass he has done. I don't feel that the surgeon has made any kind of mistake and trust that he has a lot of experience but I have no idea why I am not losing weight. In fact if I eat what I want each week I gain weight.

    Confused and Depressed

Thank you everybody! My scale is now under my bed and will only come out for a visit once a month. My doctor said to expect weight loss of about 10 lbs a month but to focus more on inches than the numbers on the scale. He also reminded me that although I feel good, there is still a lot of healing going on. Just like the incisions on the outside are not yet healed, so too the incisions on the inside are still healing with residual swelling, etc. I've started puree foods and feel much more human now, without the radical mood swings I was experiencing, being on liquids for nearly a month straight (pre and post surgery). Yesterday, I tried on shirt that was way too small prior to my surgery, and lo and behold, it fit perfectly! That provided the mental boost I was looking for! I appreciate all your kind, patient and honest input and advise--you guys ROCK!

    October Surgery Roll Call

10/29 Sleeve, doing well over all, but like you have noticed the grazing habits sneaking back in. Working on getting that back under control. It's amazing how it can sneak back in once you let it.
  17. Hi Lisafrommassachusetts, im 10 days out from my sleeve. I’m also feeling little pain already. Just really struggling with the protein. I cannot drink the drinks period. I made a spinach/carrot/leak soup in beef stock I’ve been living on. I’m walking but woke up yesterday with an intense pain in my eyeball. No idea what’s going on there. Going to have to go to the dr. I guess. Overall good just really struggling with the protein. Yes I too have to choke down my chewable vitamins. I’d rather just swallow a multivitamin like they gave me in the hospital. Looking forward to different meals
  18. 10/9 Sleeve, doing good, have noticed some return to bad grazing habits, so keeping myself in line with that.
  19. Holy Hell..... found this old picture from before my Lapband in 2009. Found on my friend's FB page. It said post Feb 2010.... But i'm 99.9% sure it was pre op liquid diet..... That would have made me 232# back then..... that jacket was a 3XL...(maybe a 4). I was so sad back then. I really felt at the end of my rope. I'm so happy with the way things turned out. Looked back at some of my post and damn the things i said..... i was one of the "i only lost" posters... I was also still under the delusion that i could make my marriage work. Didn't know it then, but he was cheating.... in so many ways. Since then i had the band placed Nov 2009, looking back now... i really didn't lose a whole lot that first year... like 60#. I lost another 20 the next year..... i hovered at 143-145 for years. I had a TT in March of 2012. 2015/2016 told him i wanted a divorce. Oct. 2016 meet the love of my life. March 2017, my band slipped and had an ER removal. Aug 2017 moved to Mississippi. Feb 2019 started menopause... and the weight really started coming back on.... from 143# removal day to 173.5 .... Found a Dr. that would do a Low BMI revision.... 2.5 years later. 14K OOP.... and worth every cent. Got married Sept. 26, 2019 (one month pre op). Today i weight 131.? It has taken me 10 years to lose 100#s.... Stated at a size 18-20 pants...

    My New Start

Thank you both so much! I agree that eating right is very important, but now that I have more energy, I'm finding myself a bit antsy if I sit still for too long/don't move. I work a sedentary job, too, so I'm hoping with modified exercises, I'll be able to join my troop again soon. My relationship is actually a huge motivator for me. My girlfriend had the gastric sleeve surgery the week after mine (12/20/19), so we're going through most of this together. The boyfriend was supposed to have the sleeve done as well but ended up dropping out. He wasn't emotionally ready to make the changes needed, and no reason to have the surgery if you aren't prepared to do that yet. He has been SO supportive of both of us, though. I agree that taking care of myself first and getting back to with meal prep is the best thing I can do right now to get back on track. Thank you again!

    My New Start

My first post I thought I would introduce myself and talk about my story. I'm Jamie. I am 36 years old and I recently had the duodenal switch completed on 12/12/19, so I just had my 3 month post-op appointment on Friday. I am exactly 60lbs down from my surgery weight and 88lbs from my highest weight in 08/19. I felt like I was more on track a month ago when I was meal prepping more. Now I feel like I eat more on the fly and while I'm not making the worst choices, I feel like there are better choices that I could be making. It comes down mostly to time, though. I work more than full time, I am a full time student, and I am in a thrupple relationship (dating two people that are married to each other - been together nearly 18 months) with their 6 year old son in the mix. This means that I am super busy with my family, work, and school, and I split my time between my house and theirs. When I do meal prep, it feels like I am shuffling food around a lot and trying to find places to put it to keep it cold/fresh. It is still cold here (Pennsylvania), but come summer I know this is going to be more of a challenge. I also meal prep for the boyfriend to help him get in good meals for lunch while he works from home. I started working out recently, joining a bootcamp fitness class that was challenging but so rewarding and so so SO motivating! The problem there, however, is that I have osteoarthritis in both knees. My left knee is much worse than my right and has been killing me. I recently saw an orthopedic specialist who gave me a steroid shot in my knee and is having me see a physical therapist on Wednesday (03/11) before I can go back to the gym. I feel like this has put a huge snag in my plans and what I have been working so hard lately to get on track with. Overall, I'm definitely looking and feeling better, and I know these are small snags that I just need to find a work-around for and not get discouraged. I wanted to join a support site to maintain my motivation and get inspired by others, so if you are still reading, thank you!
