    GASTRIC SLEEVE

I told myself for YEARS that I was going to have WLS! I kept putting it off. I had a good reason in 2016 and 2017 due to massive TN flares that ended in me having brain surgery to (temporarily) get rid of it, but had no excuse in 2018, I just procrastinated and had no motivation even though I DID want to lose weight. Then my sister gave birth to my niece in 2019 and I realized that if I didn't do something I likely wouldn't be around to watch her grow up. My health wasn't the best and as the years passed it was like more things just got piled on and I had kept using those as excuses as to why NOT to do the surgery. But the birth of my niece was the catalyst that pushed me into doing something about it. I had to do six months of weigh-ins and although I didn't have to actually lose any weight I was just asked not to GAIN, I still dieted. I chose to start cutting out the foods that I wouldn't be able to eat any way like soda, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, beans, etc. on a month to month basis. I ended up losing 64 pounds before my surgery. And I've lost 33 pounds more in the seven weeks since I had my surgery. Motivation is something you have to find for yourself. Look at those around you and look at yourself. Is your health good or is it declining? If it's hard to push for the weight loss for yourself then try to do it for your family or friends because they most definitely want and need you in their life! I hope that you can find your own motivation to push you forward, and I wish you the very best!

  3. I'm about 10 weeks out and last night was the first time I had a bad interaction with food. I don't know if I ate too fast, ate too much or my stomach just didn't like what I ate but wow, I felt terrible. Immediate heartburn then a stomach ache and chills for about 2 hours. I'll definitely be more careful about what and how I ate for a while.
  4. I believe I did as well. I lost 10 pounds right after surgery then the scale stopped for about a week. Weighed this morning and I'm down 5 more pounds. I'm trying to get a handle on constipation. My Dr has me on full liquids for another week.

    March Surgery Dates

FYI, I found in Amazon a Medical Alert card for bariatric patients. It asks Restaurants to allow us to order from a kids menu or lunch menu because of our stomach size. I’m having surgery next week, so it’ll be a while before using it. It lists on Amazon which Restaurants they know will accept it, although others may as well. It’s $5-$10.

    HELP IM STUCK

SAME :( I lost 56. Surg was 10/2018 I've been at a horrible stall since April of last year. However, I was injured and could not exercise. I believe I have a good 50 pounds to go and I am super depressed about it. The mistakes I've made - eating what I wanted the first year and not exercising even when I was healthy to do so. It has absolutely had a huge impact on my loss. I have since started to completely cut down any carb snacks. This weekend (as I am healthy now) will be the first weekend that I start a full exercise regimen. Praying that it helps. I also subscribed to MyfitnessPal and have started to count calories. Eating too little or too much can really have an effect on losing. Have you been exercising? Has anyone had a stall and came back from it?
  7. It originated in Wuhan China. Historically flu strains are named after their place of origin. Hence Wuhan virus. More accurately it is Wuhan coronavirus. The disease it causes is named COVID 19. The official name of the virus is SARS-CoV-2. A coronavirus encompasses a wide variety of viruses, not just the Wuhan coronavirus. It is now being report that the death rate for those under 50 is 0.1%. Yes it is serious due to the transmission rate being higher than that of influenza, but the irrational fear being pumped out daily does nothing to help the situation.

    Diet

@Deloris Hi there, I’m 10 days post op now. I started my journey in 10/7/19. My surgeon’s office tried to push my surgery through faster than my insurance wanted so I had a set back with having my surgery postponed for two months. I was devastated at first, but took that time to look within and start to try to like myself as I was and not depending on this surgery to be a fix-all. Now, I’m grateful for that delay and the two month I spent being and gentle and loving with myself. I guess I’m trying to say is if you do have any setbacks—not that you will, but if you do— I believe, it’s for a reason. I also lost 26 pounds from Oct-March and really started eating less during that last two months. I still had a rough time with the all liquid diet for 14 days and only made it 9 days full liquids but everything went great. Wishing you the best of luck!
  9. @Storm90 I experienced the exact same thing!! It was terrible! I’m 10 days post-op today and it has gotten better each day but still experiencing left shoulder pain when I’m still or laying down. Day 5 or 6 post op it was so bad that night I dreamed I was having surgery on my shoulder. I spoke with my surgeon and he agreed with others on this forum, it’s gas. I googled left shoulder pain and of course the worst pooped up—gastric sleeve leak. Oh heck naw! But I had no other symptoms of a leak and only those of gas. It gets better day by day and slowly it’s going from the top of my shoulder to the front of my shoulder, IDK. It’s so strange where gas wants to hang out.
  10. Hello surgery buddies! I like that we can share our experiences with each other. I’m thinking of you all and hoping you all get better in your recoveries! I got in quite a bit of walking yesterday and that makes me happy! I’m doing well on liquids and I actually had a tiny bit of butternut squash soup last night and it was amazing! I was not discreet about my surgery. All my close work peeps and friends and family know. At first, I got some negative feedback like “well I’ve heard so and so had a bad experience...” blah blah blah but I was like look this is my body and I’m excited for this change! After that, they settled down and started supporting me. I finally got my Bariatric fusion multivitamin with 45mg of Iron yesterday from Amazon and I have felt good the past two days from taking it. I’m down 10 pounds today and 36 pounds altogether with pre-op weight loss. I started about two months before surgery eating less. I was only having one meal a day and ensure max protein twice daily. I’d have a banana or cottage cheese when I felt hungry in between. I still had a rough go on the pre-op liquid diet tho, but thank Goodness that part is over! I hope you all have a great weekend! Hugs

  12. Mooooorning team! How many days post are we now? Lemme go count.....10! Woopwoop. Wow it’s been a lot within 10 days! @krimson - hydration helps with the fatigue Ina. Big way. I can’t hit 64oz either. However I can now hit 32 if I’m determined. Hang in there. It will also help immensely with the pooping. Well done on resisting the need to chew!! You can do this because you are doing it! Every day! And we wanna live with no regrets 🥰 Getting up and dressed will help. And walk walk walk. It’s the walking that’s helping me I reckon. Not that I’m any expert. @biginJapan ohhhh will be so much easier if you’re home and can start a routine. I don’t know much about stool colour but I do know pooping is key. Haha. If what is going in is ok then I wouldn’t worry about the colour. My inexpert opinion again. Haha. @cammyC - ooooh noooo dumping syndrome sounds awful!!! Be strong and no lactose!! Thinking of you. Your comment on chocolate pooping made me laugh. Ooooh the chats we have. Hahahaha. I am so sure the purées food will help. I was put on the milk diet preop and was lethargic and miserable. Have been on purée post op and have been soo much better. I think it will help! So my big lesson for today is to not weigh myself every day. I got a bit of a shock that we are only 10 days post op. I went down 2.2llbs (1kg) the last two days but then this morning the scale didn’t budge. I was sad until I realised that 10 days is nothing and I need to reign in my crazy and trust the process. The other thing I keep doubting is that the sleeve is working. I think I need to stick to set periods for eating. I was trying to get all my protein shake down which would take me the entire morning, but then I felt like I was over eating. My plan says breakfast. Morning snack. Lunch. Etc. So I’m going to try that approach. An hour to get as much protein shake in then quits til snack time. Also my sleeve is working. I’m sitting here with half my coffee drunk and I feel stuffed. I really wish I could turn off my brain. It just complicates things. Haha. Anyway. I LOVE hearing from you all. I haven’t told a soul I had the surgery because I lacked the courage to, but so it’s such a relief to be able to share the journey with you all. Xx
  13. Hi! My surgery date is March 20th. I'm on day 10 of my liquid diet (Started a couple days early).
  14. It's Coronavirus or COVID-19 and it will depend on the level of outbreak and how fast it spreads. I doubt months though.

    Super cold hands and feet?

I’m the same way, and it’s unfortunately not uncommon post-surgery. There are many threads on this topic, if you use the search function. I had surgery in December 2019. I wear slippers while home, and warm socks always. If that’s not enough, I made a foot warmer (flannel bag with rice in it, reheats in the microwave) that I use daily.
  17. My surgery was March 27th of 2019 and though I don't post in forums often, I have kept up with logging my weight info. I wanted to drop by to see how my fellow March 2019 sleevers are doing. Hands down a great decision for my health, physically and mentally. I feel great and I hope you all do as well.
  18. probably depends on where you live. Some parts of the country have been hit a lot harder than others. In those, I can see them postponing elective or non-critical surgeries just so they can deal with a potential onslaught of COVD-19 patients.
  19. Hey March 3rd group. Here's a quick update: I'm still fatigued from doing nothing. I don't meet my 64 oz. goal for hydration, I'm only halfway there. So I started with the popsicles this week to help me. I take the Prilosec and the bariatric multivitamins eveyday, without issue now. I don't like the taste, but I will manage. 3/6 incisions have shed the skin glue naturally and looks amazing. Going to start using Mederma and vitamin e oil next week. They itch like hell though and are still a little bit tender. Pooping is not my friend, I'm taking the meds to assist me. I've only went once over this past weekend. I will take the Miralx to aide my body if needed. I want to chew and now... I have to fight this head hunger like everyone else. I'm hungry sometimes, but I will drink a shake or one of my allowed items from the Full liquid diet. Still want a waffle and Turkey bacon or some cashews. I'm down exactly 10 pounds from surgery last week. Sleep is difficult, I'm uncomfortable most nights and I want to go sleep during regular sleeping hours, I can't. I need a little more rest than normal. I finally put on a bra today and full lounge wear.
  20. Toronto, Canada. A quick google search tell me there are 19 active cases in T.O. and the GTA (as of yesterday) I am not sick, been in contact with anyone (that I know of) who has been sick, or traveled to any hotspots, or been around anyone who has (that I know of). My city has not enacted any States of Emergency, but has issued almost daily updates, which I keep up with. I am going about my business as I normally do while practicing good hygiene (as I normally do). I have lunch dates today and tomorrow that I am keeping. And a date night tomorrow night with Mr & friends that I already have an OOTD picked out for. I have not "stocked up" beyond what I would normally do; if anything I should be going grocery shopping today, but given the news that erupted yesterday, alot of panicked folks are flooding the stores and I don't want to deal with that and them right now. I went this morning, and turned around and went home after seeing the craziness at the costco parking lot. I probably will avoid Costco for the next little while, as it seems to be the mecca for stockpilers. I did stop by a regular grocery store and picked non-volume, regular-priced romaine lettuce for my salads since I'm all out. No craziness there. I didn't check if there was toilet paper though, LOL. Our client sites have implemented WFH policies, but we work from home most of the time anyway. The Kid's school is still open. She has a semi-formal she is attending tonight, that has not been cancelled. The only things that we are doing/have done differently is (1) telling our parents to stay away from crowds as much as they can, and give us a call if they need stuff so we can do the errands for them. They are elderly and not the healthiest folks in the world, so it makes sense for them, and (2) totally scrapping the plan of going to Europe for vacay in the spring, which I am pretty bummed about, and (3) seriously contemplating pulling the plug on the Kid's summer plans in Asia, which she is pretty bummed about. Otherwise, status quo around here, unless new info/third-party policies forces us to do otherwise. Wash your hands!

  22. My sleeve date was 12/2/2019. I have been doing well so far, but I need to remind myself I am only 3 months post op. I am still struggling with solid foods especially meat and vomiting. I am happy with my progress. The hardest part is dealing with the mental/emotional cravings seeing and wanting foods I can no longer eat. I just take it one day at a time.
  23. I had h pylori during testing. I had 2 meds that I took for 10 days. Didnt seem like a big deal to anyone. I didnt feel rotten but experienced months of dirrarhea after though. I'm assuming the bacteria is gone but they never retested for it.
