Will my face and neck regain their appearance after rapid weight loss?
pintsizedmallrat replied to Hannah_Johnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 40, I've lost more than half my previous body weight (231 lbs to 109), and was carrying a LOT of weight in my chin. I almost looked like I had a goiter it was so bad. My skin tends to go in spells, I am essentially "done" actively losing weight and am in maintenance now, and I found that when I stalled my skin would catch back up, and then I'd lose more and it would look saggy. While I don't think I'm ever going to look as good as if I had never been fat, I'm hoping that now that I'm basically going to stay put, it will get to a point where I am no longer self conscious about it and won't need to have surgery. My belly, though...that's a different story, unfortunately. I look like a deflated balloon. -
yup stay off the scale... you will stop loosing weight for a bit throughout the journey. They are called stalls. typically at your 3rd week is where you hit your first one where you probably wont loose any weight for a couple weeks. Just stick to the program and it will come off

I have to agree I accept others opinions I have very high confidence my surgery is gonna go fantastic. I know there's a lot of stuff we should not eat I stopped myself before I even knew about what kind of process I had to do I've been reading the blue book. I know after surgery to drink and sip on only once from a very small amount. It's kinda amazing how many men and women lost so much weight and kept it off especially keeping the will to work out five days a week. Sent from my TMAF035G using BariatricPal mobile app

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Try to cut back to once a week. Everyone fluctuates all the time, I can easily gain 5 lbs in a day and by the next morning it be completely gone plus some. Also, you will experience "stalls" at times. You won't loose weight and may even gain a couple lbs over a week or so. It also will pass. Just stay focused and follow your plan and you will loose weight. Best of luck to you!

I meal prep my lunches usually. A lot of times crock pot meals, mainly because it is easier. This week I made "Mississippi roast beef" it is the best roast I have ever eaten! I will have to take a picture during my lunch tomorrow and share it. If you look up the recipe- I used half of the butter in the recipe and will likely just leave the butter completely out next time. -
Looking for a November surgery pal
Merri Beth replied to Needtogethealthy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am on day 2 of my two week liquid pre op. I keep telling myself if I made through day one I can make through day two and on and on.... I am taking it one day at time. I am treating it like being in recovery from any other addiction, one day at a time. I am also praying my way through this whole process. Surgery is Nov 28th. -
Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op

That's wild that your stall broke in 3 days of switching it up! Definitely going to break out the weights today! And thanks for the positive encouragement. -

My last stall was 4 weeks. I was also getting frustrated and stressed about it. I started tracking EVERYTHING I ate and drank (you'd be surprised what "healthy" drinks still have a lot of carbs and calories) and I added weight training to my exercise routine. 3 days later, my stall broke. This was on the advice of my nutritionist, and it worked. Track every single thing you consume and change up your exercise routine. -
September surgery buddies!!

I agree on the stalls. I know its normal and expected but I still felt like a failure. I wish I could eat chicken more. Its the perfect food to get the protein without the extra fat. Right now I eat mostly ground pork because it has less fat than the beef I used to buy and its even cheaper then beef too. So win win but still not as good as chicken lol. What do you eat for breakfast that has chicken? I have not been liking eggs so breakfast has been my hardest meal for protein unless I eat yogurt. Chili has been my favorite food atm. I bought some Hormel turkey chili and it was pretty yummy and not too bad for me, although seemed high in calories. -
Hi all fellow bariatric buddies. Sorry to hear about everyone’s hair loss. I started Collagen powder 2 days after surgery as it was suggest by the nurse as one of many supplements I have to take. I wouldn’t know if I loose hair as I never brush it. Short curly shoulder length hair. But I do use a lot of hair products in hair. I am still on soft/liquid foods. And can’t eat eggs on their own. Nor can I still stomach coffee(haven’t had it in 12yrs). Is there any foods you loved and can’t eat now? I have become sensitive to eczema. I have been able to stop my 5yr medication for reflux. I tried a sip of hubbies coke no sugar 4 days ago. That was a mistake🤮 Im still loosing 1kg (2.2 pounds) a week. And can now get 3 of 4 wedding rings on.

Back through the history of this thread I started out posting my meal when I was in the weight loss phase, like a quarter sandwich, lol. Then I posted my dining out meals, from work travel. Then I posted the low carb meal preps I was doing primarily for my bf (cause my diet is anything but low carb!). Then early pandemic I was doing large scale meal prep for three different (but small) households, because of grocery scarcity, and the sudden end to my work travel gave me free time. But I burned out on cooking a while ago. Now I just post the occasional home cooked meal, or something special or fancy. Like @GreenTealael I don't post because how many times a week do people want to see a paper bowls with tater tots and season salt, or an 80% eaten McChicken 😂? This is what currently makes up a large % of my weekly diet (when I'm not in France 🥐🥖🍷) 😂 -
Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
Leo segovia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm eating at night again. My fat brain is winning. I feel so disgusted with myself at this moment and feel I'm slipping. I am 8 weeks post op and should be transitioning to more solid foods but I'm mostly still pureeing . This way I can have more volume of foods. I need to contact my surgery team and see if they can help. I just feel defeated at this moment. -

yeah I would move up the appointment with the dietician! I talked to my Kaiser support group leader during my stall & refreshing my memory about what & what not to do helped. She mentioned switching your protein sometimes helps & that's what did it for me! -

THANKS! It's such a relief. even after reading a million stories about how normal stalls are it still hurts my feelings. I hope yours starts to move again! & CHICKEN. I eat 3 small meals a day & every one has chicken. I switch up the sauce & seasoning & suddenly feel like I'm having a different meal. I'm at the point where I feel I'll never get tired of it haha -
Syntrax Nectar Experts?
Bunny78 replied to Vidalia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of you make me have hope! So I’ve tried powdered shakes and can’t seem to get it right. I am currently not working, because I’m only 2 1/2 weeks post-op, but after I heal I will be going to work and as a school bus driver I don’t always have a fridge so the powders would be nice to keep on hand for making shakes on the go. Currently using the premier pre-made shakes and they have to be ice cold. I currently have organic protein with super food (from Costco) and nectar and both are flavorless. I was thinking I would use these in in juice, but I can not seem to get it right. I seem to keep getting chunks, or super gritty, or the foam will never go away. any and all ideas are wanted and needed thanks in advance, chris -
Hey guys, so last week doing the dishes I had pain going up both my arms and across my shoulder in the back and then I felt what I thought was like shortness of breathe, maybe a little heart flutter. It scared me so I went and sat down and it stopped. Now it happens sometimes when I am active. Long story short, I called my surgeon he said it was weird and to get it checked at ER. Six hours later, an EKG, CT scan and bloodwork showed no clot and nothing really abnormal. I went to the grocery store tonight and just walking around I started to feel the weirdness again. Has anyone experienced this? I just want to know what it is and when it will stop hahaha. It's unnerving.

Merri Beth replied to Crystal Leifheit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I noticed that too. I of course have to do the two week liquid pre op! LOL. I started today, so far so good. I am not sure I am thinking it might be up to the surgeon how long they want a patient to be on the liquids. -
Jan 10th here. It just got very real. My doctor is allowing a high protein diet 2 weeks before surgery and the liquid diet only 2 days before. Is this normal? I know everyone is a little different.

you may just be in a really long stall. Are you tracking your food intake? Are you following your plan to a "T"? If so, i'm guessing a stall for sure. If not, start tracking again. And like kcuster said, it might be helpful to contact your team if you're worried. -

Regretting the surgery
BlessedMomma91 replied to BlessedMomma91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just wanted to update: My intestines were just taking their time to wake up after anesthesia. I could not get rid of the gas so there was a crazy amount of pressure on my stomach and insides. Friday night, things finally started moving (5 days after surgery). I felt like a new woman on Saturday. Limited nausea and pain. Today, I'm still doing well except for spasms after drinking fluids (still on all fluids). Doc said they normally go away after a week or so but of course my body is holding on. I'm also trying to navigate diarrhea and constipation. My doc, office staff, hospital staff, church, family, and husband (And of course you all) have been amazing supports. I pray I continue to improve and can say I no longer regret the surgery (eventhough I'm still super early into the post op process). Thank you all for your kind words and letting me know I'm not alone. You've all truly been a blessing. [emoji173] Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm 12 days post OP and have the same thing, I called my Nurse and they said It's normal for the first few weeks and if I don't have pain or a fever it's probably nothing serious but they'll check in more when i have my 2 week check up... which is in 3 days. So i've done some reading and this is what I've read. It could be: Normal Change in Taste Following Surgery: Change in the taste, smell, or tolerance of food following bariatric surgery is a common phenomenon. In fact, one study has found that as many as 97% of patients experience at least one such change following these surgeries. Ketosis: Some describe keto breath as having a metallic taste in their mouth and a smell that's sweet, fruity or similar to nail polish remover. This is caused by the chemicals your body creates during ketosis, which are released from the body by exhaling. (Unlikely) Dysgeusia or Parageusia is associated with this condition where the taste buds are distorted. It is a serious condition because an aversion to many foods can lead to malnutrition after gastric bypass or sleeve surgery. The only way to really know is to check in with your provider. All the best.
