Almost 11 months post-op -- wanted to share some NSVs
Catherine55 replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DaMomb, I love your VS NSV!! That is great! :mad2: -
Do they have a pool? I highly recommend swimming. Started out at 364 pounds in my fat lady swim suit. Afterall once you're in the pool no one can see you. Moving to a suit that did not have a skirt was a major NSV.

You have made a big decision that will change your life for the better and make you a much healthier person. Try to focus on the future and not the past. Think of the things you will be able to do with your son that you amy have not been able to do if not for the surgery and try to think about the new you. I went window shopping before my surgery and tried to imagine what it would be like to wear that size. I actually bought something in a size 8 before my surgery, and it gave me so much incentive cuz I wanted to wear it so bad! Now it is too big for me! Try doing that. You won't have time after the surgery to think about the past cuz you will be busy making sure you are eating right and planning right. Don't feel guilty about where you have been, but feel inspired about where you will be. Look at some of the before and after pics on here, and imagine what yours will look like! And read some of the nsv's and tell yourself that will be you soon! When is your surgery? Best of luck to you. Keep us posted.

That's a great NSV! I experienced the same thing when attending an NBA basketball game - it was so nice not having to shove my huge a$@ into the seat. One downfall of the weight loss though - I actually notice my tailbone getting a little achy if sitting in a hard seat for too long. Not enough padding. I'll take it though!!

I love reading about all these NSV's! They are so fun and inspiring! We are all doing so great! This is the smell of success!

NSV ALERT! lol I went to Starbucks and you know they have the chairs with the arms outside. Well they used to be so dang uncomfortable because my thighs would be pushing on the sides. Well guess what?! I sat in one and had tons of room on each side! =DDD

There are some people who know I have had this surgery, and have been with me the whole way on my weight loss journey. With the exception of a very few, the people at our church are not in that group. This is mainly because I do not know most of them very well, and discussing my personal health choices is not my idea of creating that kind of bond. So this morning I am sitting in the Sunday morning service. For many, many years, I have dressed pretty much the same, wearing a nice pair of pants, and a low key Hawaiian style shirt. This type of shirt is not only good for hiding my rotundity, it also does a good job of hiding my personal defense accessory, which goes with me everywhere it is legal to go. So far I have lost 114 lbs, and have gone through several shirt sizes. I was wearing a new one today, and it fit just a little shorter than the previous ones I had been wearing for years. As we stood up to sing the second hymn, I reached down to tug my shirt into its proper place, just like they do on Star Trek. To my horror, as I reached around to pull it down in back, I felt about 1 1/2" of holster sticking out below the hem. And as things go, the woman who sits behind me EVERY Sunday is in a wheelchair, so she has an up close and detailed view of my nether regions. Sure enough, as I was sitting back down, I felt a tap tap tap on my shoulder. "Oh, great", I thought. "Here we go!" I twisted around in my pew to face her, running through what I was going to have to say to keep her from either going off on me, or quaking in fear. "Wow, you've really lost a lot of weight! How'd you do that?" My relief was palpable. I thought quickly. "I stopped eating!" She locked eyes with me, and started laughing, nodding her head all the while. So now I am wondering. Did she see my holster, or was she so taken with my new semi svelte appearance that it went by the wayside? I am not keen to find out just yet. But, this is a NSV in that someone outside my circle of those in the know, and who sees me on a regular basis, noticed that I don't block as much of her view of the pulpit anymore.

You've gotten a lot of good information, but I wanted to add that it's not just "us" (we) who stall--everyone who is trying to lose weight does. As frustrating as it is, weight loss just doesn't occur in a linear fashion. There are fits and starts, weeks where you lose and lose and lose, weeks where you the scale doesn't budge. That's one reason that I think so many people in WLS-land have learned to focus on NSV's--because even if the weight isn't coming off, there are so many other things you can look at and say, "Wow, this is good!"

WhooHoo Chancie!!!! I bet you look fabulous in your new JEANS even if you weren't able to provide pictures. Congrats on your NSV! :scared0:

Me And My Dog And My Nsv... This Is So Funny
lowe1961 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a dog her name is Lolly she is a boston terrior. We live near a very busy highway in a apartment. And when I opened up the door she took off. Now here I am in my pj's, I have dinner cooking on the stove. And this dog is fast. Well she runs next to the highway up 2 very steep hills before i caught her. If I would have not had this surgery In July. I would have never been able to keep up with her. So if anyone saw a crazy looking women running down the side of 141 wearing a purple robe , It was me. And of course it was rush hour traffic. Well my dog is sound asleep now , she seems to be wore out. And I burned some extra calories today. -
My Kids Make My Heart Smile Nsv

For better &/or for worse, kids don't lie!! Very cool NSV! -
And as they say in those insipid infomercials...but, wait, there's more! This is just the beginning. And keep on the outlook for those NSVs...they are more precious to me than the actual weight loss can be.

Aren't they great? I also have my first NSV. Last night I met a woman and I ended up telling her I had had weight loss surgery 6 weeks ago, and she said, with a look of shock on her face, "You don't even look like you need to lose weight!" I did have my coat on - but still that made me feel so good!

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE the NSV'S!!!!! As Bob said, they're almost better than seeing the scale move...... and plenty more to come!!!

I went to bingo and was approached by 2 ladies who asked me what's my secret? They said because you have lost some weight. I thanked them because that was the first time that someone outside of my family and friends to notice my weight loss. I was smiling from ear to ear. I'm down 55 lbs and was starting to get worried, like damn was I really that fat?

That is AWESOME!! It's the little things, isn't it?? All the NSVs are what keep us going =) Keep up the good work and enjoy your new sitting position.

I can cross my legs like a lady! No more ankle to knee lumberjack crossing here! Knee to knee dainty crossed legs. Btw, that means my thighs are small enough now to fit together! Silly NSV but made me feel good. : )

Those are AMAZING NSV's! It's downright dangerous to have non-stop periods due to the blood loss. It's great that your cycle seems back to normal. And your BP getting back to normal is just as amazing. Congrats.

I feel like I am posting a lot, but I just had to share a few more victories! I hope everyone isn't getting sick of all my posts So, tonight I figured out how much weight I have lost in a percentage. I have lost 20% of my body weight!!!!!!!!! That is so awesome to think of it that way, and I am only a little over 2 months post-op. Not sure if this is NSV or not, but it shows that I am getting healthier everyday. For probably 2.5 years, I did not have a period. Instead, I would bleed ALL the time. It was horrible!!! I went to a GYN but felt like she blew me off. She put me on meds which made me want to kill someone so I stopped taking them. I just put up with it for tooooooo long! So, after surgery, I stopped bleeding for a while and I was SOOOOO excited. Then, I started to bleed again after a few weeks. It was horrible heavy. I almost went to the ER it was so bad one day. Then, it stopped again after 6-7 days like a normal period. Then, I didn't have any bleeding for 30 days!!!! WOOOOHOOOO. I had a normal period this week that lasted about 6 days, and it wasn't heavy like last time. Sorry if this is TMI, but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited. I went to a new GYNO before surgery, and she didn't know if I had something going on or if it was just because of my weight. She said sometimes you can bleed because people with more fat produce more estrogen and that makes you bleed non-stop. Not sure what it was, but pretty sure its nothing serious or nothing I need to take any meds for!! I think my body is finally getting back to normal!!!!!!!! :) :) Oh yah, I guess this is another NSV. I have been off my BP meds since a few weeks post-op, and no more diuretics either! I don't have pitting edema in my legs anymore Gosh, so much is happening so soon after surgery, and I am still very overweight at 296 pounds.... wonder how great it will be when I get to goal!?!?!?!

Sarah!!! I'm SUPER happy for you! EVERY NSV deserves to cherished and shared! You are a true inspiration to us here So... THANK YOU!!!!!! Keep um coming girlie!!

OK I am in Clarksville / Nashville area visiting friends, family and attending a conference in Atlanta this month. My best friend for about 12 years now lives in the area. I just got back from a kick ass night out on the town with my girlfriend and her sister and her boyfriend. We went to this bar that has two floors. The lower floor is redneck as can be. Complete with line dancing and cowboys and girlfriends all in boots and fringe shirts. We played several games of pool and drank several drinks there. Then we go upstairs where there is a Hip Hop club. Completely packed and have to wade through a sea of people to get to the bar. I flirted and danced with several guys. SIGH!! Had this one guy come up to me and whisper / shout in my ear "damn you are fine". SIGH!! I am loving it. WHOO HOO!! Had a blast. Now I am back tucked safely in my hotel room. I was a good bandster I only had a couple of drinks. I had a blast and was asked to dance several times tonight. IT was so much fun. Got my workout in. LOL!!

Great NSV Penni. It shouldn't come as a surprise to you though since you look fabulous. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I have to say that one of my most amazing NSVs was flying down to my nephew's wedding just over 2 months after surgery and not needing the extender AND being able to lower the tray table to its appropriate position. It was so hard not to share the excitement with the flight attendant and my seat mates! I feel your pain. One of my last flights was international to Israel from Atlanta. I was already sick, didn't fit the seat, and had broken flaps for me to lean my head on to sleep. It was a miserable flight. pam
