Dear February Sleevers: I am 2 weeks out from surgery and everything tastes so sweet. I am still on liquids for 4 more days. I eat Chobani yogart to help with Protein amount then Injury chocolate for another 30 grams of protein. Suppose to get in 70 grams but still only able to get in 60 grams a day. Have tried cream Soups to get away from the sweet but they don't taste good. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think they may have also done something with my taster while in surgery.....lololololol

Stalled For 3 Weeks At 4.5 Months Out - Up Calories? Cut Fat? Cut Carbs? More Exercise?
Pennie replied to Catracks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls are so maddening. My most disheartening stall happened just 6 weeks out from surgery, and lasted 3 weeks. There are all kinds of "tricks" you can try to break the stall. Anything to change up what you are doing might be enough (increase calories, decrease calories, increase exercise, decrease exercise). But I honestly think trying to break a stall is almost more frustrating than the stall itself. In my experience, it's best to just keep your nose to the grindstone. It sounds like you have a well balanced diet, you exercise, and you eat about 800 calories a day - correct? Keep it up. The stall will break. Eventually. Just keep up the healthy lifestyle and trust the process. I know it is so maddening. I hope your scale budges soon. In the meantime, congrats on the inches lost! That's great! -
Any 8/14 patients?
taraster25 replied to heygirl_143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 8/13 and I'm not allowed to touch anything but clear liquids for the first week. It's so hard to get all that liquid down I can't imagine adding protein too. Good luck and I hope you find something good! -
10 days post op no loss?
DropWt4Life replied to seperry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with jenn1, and will add that you no doubt lost pounds on your pre-op liquid diet. Your body just needs to catch up. You will start losing soon. I lost 25 pounds on my 2 week pre-op diet, and lost nothing my first week. I was told not to get on the scale for the 1st week or so anyway, because your body has to release the IV fluid and water weight resulting from it. -
What Kind Of Calcium/vitamins Do You Take?
mandamomma2 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op and I am supposed to be taking calcium and wondered if you take a pill or do chewables? My doc said that I could just take a regular vitamin, but the nut told me that I should still be taking a chewable. They confused me since they were on different pages! When did you change to swallowing your vitamins and other supplements? I already swallow prylosec and synthroid. -

I am really craving a salad
Bufflehead replied to bettyboop2088's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The problem with getting your food marching orders from this forum is that you are going to hear about twenty different post-op eating plans, and maybe just tempted to go with the one you like the best. My post-op eating plan was NO RAW VEGGIES AT ALL until six months after surgery. Somehow I get the feeling you won't be wanting to jump on board with my plan At ten weeks post op I was allowed to eat green veggies, but only if they were soft enough that they could be cut easily with a fork. So, I rarely ate them because mushy veggies gross me out. I am allowed salad now, of course, but rarely choose it: it's nutritionally not a good deal when you consider how little protein you get versus how much stomach space it takes up. Give me a rare steak or a piece of delicious grilled swordfish any day instead. And that's only in restaurants -- I don't think about having salad at home, ever. I live alone and there is no way I could eat my way through the raw veggies I'd have to buy for a salad, even if I ate salad for every meal for days, before they all turned brown and slimy. -
First Few Weeks Post Op. Any tips or tricks?
HARTMOM replied to AweLauren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi @@AweLauren -- I am also a newbie here -- I just had surgery on 11/7. I am already down 24 pounds which is wicked scary for me to see if all flying off so fast. I have been just really taking things slow with myself and being patient. My biggest obstacle is making wise choices since I have been advanced to the pureed stage of things. This makes it tricky, because I get a little hungrier than just being on the Protein shakes and I am also exercising 4 times per week. However, I have quickly learned to try to ignore HEAD HUNGER where you brain tells you to eat because heck, you should and it's what you are used to doing. I have 2 little ones and cooking for them is sometimes stressful because I am used to tasting their foods. Had to quit that also. What has helped me the most aside from joining this forum a few days ago -- is JOURNALING my feelings about food, my emotions, and the times I tried to indulge in something I shouldn't have only to be found laying in the fetal position in PURE pain. I'd love to hear from anyone else who may be further along -- or just hear about what you have experienced as well? When was your surgery? THart -

Twinmomma422 replied to Wdwgirl74's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BCBSIL PPO also they didn't cover mine but I only paid like $350 out of pocket for my visits which were only 3. They split it up in the three visits. That price. Seems a little high to me. I had my sleeve sept 9th. It took insurance 2 days to approve I hope once you get passed this step it will be a smooth ride for you. -
My Monthy Weight Loss Update!!!
kyrasgrandma replied to hopingtobebandedsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you are doing awesome! I am in my 3rd week and have lost 10 lbs since surgery. I was 258 when I started my pre op diet, 249 on surgery day and now weigh 239. I was 272 at Christmas and managed to get down to 258 by October. Took a long time on my own even with going to the gym 3-4 times a week and also working out with my trainer. -
Anyone had these symptoms?
Shay7997 replied to 802597340's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could still be swollen if you haven't been taking it easy after the stuck episode. Most doctors suggest going back to liquids for a couple days after a stuck episode because you do swell afterwards. It's possible it's still there. You shouldn't still have this feeling almost a week out from the episode. You may need to talk to your doctor and see if he needs to go in and remove it. -
Self Pay and Insurance notification????
michele035 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi hoping someone where can help. I just had my final meeting with my doctor and scheduled my revision RNY to DS. 2 years ago my insurance denied my revision so I am 100% self pay. I got all my payment information today and the woman at the doctor's office told me she would need to "run the insurance info through" for the hospital just so they have the denial info? huh? the LAST thing I want is for my insurance company to have any info on this surgery. I majorly understand the risks of any complications in the hospital and being responsible for the costs personally since I am paying for the initial surgery. I understand that risk and am willing to take it. I also understand that if I go home a few days or weeks later sometype of complication happens, that I should be able to run that through insurance and have it be covered (different medical coding). So with all this being said the LAST thing I want is for the insurance company to have any inkling of this surgery Has anyone ever had this experience? I am very concerned now that she said that this morning and I cannot think of anything else...any insight would be appreciated. -
I was a week in from starting soft foods stage and I went away for the weekend. This ment resturants and breakfast buffets at the hotel. I did great, had a thai appetizer and bbq shredded meat for dinners and got a lunch and multiple snacks out of both. Only needed a spoonful of scrambled eggs for breakfast. I guess I was very surprised how easy it was. Also found I had more energy for walking doing things. It seems it gets easier and easier each week. 5'10 Sleeved 9/25/17 HW: 309 SW: 278 CW: 246 GW: 190

Problems keeping food or drinks down
JJLaw08 replied to logo83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through something similar, but mine came on all of a sudden. About two weeks ago, it hurt to breath, eat or drink. I called the doctor, and I went in that same day. He took all my Fluid out. I went last week for a fluro, and he said I had been tight for so long it caused like a mushroom above the band. I guess that was causing my paint and everything. I would get completely unfilled, and then let them check you. I had heartburn for a few weeks before I went to the doctor. That is a sign you may be too tight. -
Post-Op Dizziness

I had dizzy spells up to 3 weeks. Take it easy. Drink water. No oj ! -
I had similar and was told it was the effects of the anesthetic as well as the band and it did get better within the first week. I lived on Soup and protein shakes for 2 weeks, then had mashed food for another 2 weeks.

Surgery date in Mexico is 4-15-2010
theirmom replied to susujohnson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, i am going to Juarez, Mexico this week on April the 1st i too am a little nervous. I live in tennessee but when i get back i will be sure to let you know. I am still super excited about going but alittle nervous about the crime. -
I was 405 the day of surgery. I'm 38 and was a full scholarship Division 1 football player in the 90's. I was always in great shape but my significant weight gain started after I had three hip replacements on the same hip a couple years ago. I was non weight bearing for several months and gained significant weight throughout the recovery. I am also 6'3 and have quite a bit of muscle mass! I walked for at least an hour a day starting the day after surgery and started working out hard three weeks ago. I am working on losing weight and getting my hips back in shape at the same time. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Anyone exerienced soreness almost 3 months after surgery?
poohmsg posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery the end of April and by the first few weeks of June was feeling really good no longer sore and able to do anything. But recently we went on vacation nothing big but a long 2 day drive and a lot of time in the car after we got there, I was feeling fine but on the way home another 2 day drive my mussel that they cut through for the surgery started to get sore. I have been home a week now and it seems to be getting more sore everyday. Its not unbearable but i defiantly feel it. I was just wondering if anybody else has has this happen? I don't recall doing anything that would make it sore but who knows I am thinking maybe just sitting so long in the car could be behind it? -
Some Questions-1 Week Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery
DebiC replied to EmSchrams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor is also one who moves you into real foods quickly. We don't even really have a "mushy" stage. It was kind of included in the full liquids. Then at 2 weeks it was soft foods (basically anything except dry meats and fresh veggies) then at 4 weeks (which I hit yesterday) the fresh veggies got added (Yeah salads! even if it is only a tablespoon full) Each doctor or clinic seems to have their own plan. I say follow your doctors plan, and unless something doesn't sit well then you must be doing OK. As for the vitamin-Have you tried the Gummy chewables? costco has large bottles of Adult Gummy Vitamins and also Gummy Calciums. So I wouldn't worry too much how others move through the stages (I've seen several who do full liquids for 4 weeks or more post-op)and just follow your doctors suggestions. -
So the last four weeks, I've woken up with a sore right hip, today I've notice the left hip is also hurting, I'm 28lb down and not had hip issues before. Anyone got any ideas why or have advice how to deal with it.

Hello Everyone! I was sleeved this week Monday November 8th and today was my first full day home from the hospital. While in the hospital I had a few what have I done moments, especially during my upper GI the tech was trying to force me to drink 5 oz of Fluid with a staw next day after surgery. My first 3 sips made my stomach hurt really bad it's like I could feel my stomach fill with air each sip I took. It was awful, but once testing was done I had no leaks thank God and I made sure I told my surgeon what happened during my upper GI and he was not happy about it at all. Right after my upper GI the male nurse from hell told me to get up and walk even after I explained the amount pain I was in after my test and that I had already walked the floor twice that morning he just explained that they saw me walking but know one documented my time so I had to do it again and kindly told him to step off. In the end he forced me to to get out of the bed so I walked exactly five steps from my room turned arounded and walked backed and demanded my pain killer. The head nurse Cindy was really nice to me and after I explained to her that I had been moving and taking myself to the bathroom it was just the pain from my upper she understood and gave me my pain meds. I also informed her that nurse man from hell had not changed my sheets and I had been setting in chair all day long this was on Tuesday he did not change the bed untill Wednesday afternoon and I was discharged Weds. evening which was fine because I got up and change the bed myself. Other than nurse man from hell my hospital stay was find, I did everything I needed to do to go home. My first full day home has been crazy I have not been hungry so I put a chart together to track my full liquids I was only able to take in 25 grams of Protein today I did go outside and walk twice 10 mins each time it was really a nice fall day. I wanted this so badly and I do not want to mess anything up any long timers or newbies out there who have any pointers for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for allowing me to vent while providing my summary of the start of my new journey.

Hi there! I would really like some advice / feedback from a few who might have had the same experience. It's now 10 weeks since I had my band fitted & have lost 24 1bs so far). I had it filled 3 weeks ago because I stopped losing weight after 4 weeks. I was on liquids for first 2 weeks then mashed food for 2 weeks after which it felt as though I had no band really and could eat pretty normally, the band was not filled when it was fitted at the op. After the adjustment with a 7ml fill, I had 2 days on liquids and 3 days mashed food. Since starting to eat normal food again I often have pain when I eat the first few mouthfuls, like gas in my chest or that the food is stuck, although not always. It's worst in the morning, so I have a Protein shake for Breakfast which is fine. At lunch it could go either way, sometimes fine or painful, so that I either have to take a break and walk around a bit or have to throw up a tiny bit (not nice). If this happens I might be able to eat after a while or if it continues I give up and don't eat, which is one way to lose weight I guess! By dinner it's usually ok and I can eat a small portion with no problems, but not always. Basically some days are better than others and I don't really know why, sometimes even mashed food can hurt, but more solid food goes down just fine. If I can manage the first few mouthfuls ok then the whole meal is usually fine. I know all the basics like not drinking at the same time, eating slowly and chewing everything a lot but this does not seem to make any difference. Has anyone else had the same experience? It would be great to hear from you.
