Post-Op 3 weeks and Starving! What to eat?

I am on soft foods now too, and it sounds like my guidelines are pretty similar to yours. One difference is that I am allowed ground beef or thinly sliced deli meat such as roast beef - not other forms of roast beef though. My meal planning is not very inspiring, I'm afraid. A typical day for me might look like: Breakfast: one poached egg over 1/4 c. fat free refried beans OR 50 grams Greek yogurt with one tablespoon peanut butter stirred in OR two pieces of turkey bacon Lunch: 1.5 oz sliced deli meat (usually turkey or roast beef) plus one babybel cheese plus 2 prunes OR 2 oz. chicken salad and 1 oz. broccoli salad from the deli counter Dinner: 1.5 oz sardines plus 1 oz. cheese plus 1 oz. asparagus salad OR 2 oz. shrimp with hot sauce and blue cheese melted on top plus 1 ounce frozen mixed veggies. I'm not allowed more than three ounces per meal total, and of that, at least 2 ounces has to be protein-rich food such as meat, dairy, eggs, or tofu. Snacks are protein shakes, nothing else. And I'm not allowed starchy veggies, grain-based food, or sweets. If you are on MyFitnessPal you might want to friend people at a similar stage to you and lurk their diaries to see what they eat. I get lots of ideas that way!
  2. i was banded yesterday morning.....here's what i've had so far...am i getting enough??? 9/14 @ 3pm 2oz nonfat yogurt, 3oz chicken broth @ 7pm 4oz nonfat yogurt, 2oz chicken broth 9/15 @12:35Am 2oz nonfat yogurt @ 7:45Am 2.5 oz hot tea @ 8:25Am 1 tablespoon applesauce w/morning meds AND 1.5oz Protein shake @10:40Am 2oz nonfat yogurt @12Pm 3oz chicken broth @2:40pm 2oz small curd Lowfat Cottage cheese and of course, i sip on Water throughout the days as much as possible. so, by being 2 days post op, and my above food log...does it look like i'm getting enough? i know i think i need more protein....so for dinner tonight i'll try to get in a few more ounces of the protein. but from the above, what do ya'll think? AND WHEN WILL THE SORENESS AND THE DISCOMFORT GO AWAY?!!! i just want to feel back to normal again in my mid-section/tummy area!
  3. Hello BandLand!!! First I wanna say I hope everyone is doing great and I am glad we have this forum because everyone has the opportunity to inspire someone else throughout there journey. I am getting a lil discouraged though... Today makes 1month post-op for me and I am only down 20lbs... For the 2wks the scale is just not moving. I am staying around 1000-1400 calories but on most days I am at 1200cals. I am starting to feel very hungry again. I will be getting my first fill this Friday the 18th. Currently i have no Fluid in my 14cc band. I just wanna know how has everyone's journey been? Any regrets? Anyone doing any vigorous exercise right away? Also for those out there who understand carbs... I need help!!! On a daily basis, I am trying to stay at 1200cals, 60-80g Protein, & under 100g carbs... I just dont understand how people say they stay under 30g of carbs when there are carbs in just about everything we eat including high protein foods also. If I eat yogurt for Breakfast, thats 20g carbs just from my a.m. snack... Can someone please explain carbs to me? I have been avoiding Pasta & rice and minimal bread but I do have a bagel thin or english muffin once or twice a week. Any help or advice would be great!!! Thanks Everyone... Below are some additional questions. Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks... HDC 1. (Women only question) What do you do for cravings and appetite when it's that time of the month? Does your weight fluctuate during this time as well? 2. Because there are carbs in almost everything we eat, how do you determine what is a good amount of carbs per day? My fitnesspal says 249g is a go number. 3. What kind of exercise do you all do and how much and for how long? 4. Any ideas on things I can do as a truck-driver that works nights? I will be going back to work in a couple weeks and snacking is how I use to make it on the road. I need ideas or even some healthy snack choices to get me through my nights at work driving down that lonely highway. 5. Are sunflower seeds bad? 6. So far I have been eating 1200 calories of less per day, along with 80g of protein and trying to keep my carbs under 100g. Is this ok??? I'm really unsure… Just still so confused and need some words of wisdom on certain things. Bandsters please share any advise or tips to help me through my journey. I appreciate all comments and I accept all the supportand encouragement I can get. Thanks a lot lbt…
  4. I had my RYN on Nov 1st, recovered well, and just washed my hair and noticed bunch of hair came out, and i was in disbelief, brushed my hair and a string of hair came out! I cannot believe that i am in hair loss? At 18 days? I am supposed to be on the puree stage, but i like only light and fit greek yogurts by Dannon and chicken broth with carrots. But i do struggle to get in the 80g of protein and water because of the chest pain when drinking/eating as jt passes down. I have to go very slow. Is this "normal" to have hair loss before 3 weeks? Complusive Overeater!

I get what you're saying. I feel so bad for every little "cheat" and wonder if I am really going to be able to do this. For instance, today I had my first fill, I was told to have Clear liquids until tomorrow. So of course, having only had a Protein shake and a little cottage cheese before going I was freakin' hungry tonight. So, I had a sugar free yogurt smoothie. Now I am fighting feelings like I am going to fail, I screwed up, etc. Over a freakin' sugar free smoothie! Here's what I tell myself, if it don't hurt then I'm okay. I had a neice live with me for several years. She was the tiniest thing. I would make these great home made meals (something she'd never had at home) and she would take a little of this, a spoon full of that. She would have sooooo much plate exposed it would make me uncomfortable. EAT! I would tell her, fill up your plate! She would say to me, this is all I need. I was 300 pounds, she was about 135. My band is helping me to make my plate look like hers. PERIOD. Try not to get anxious. That will make you eat more. You know it. I know it. We have many many many months before we can deem this a failure or success. Let it do what it's supposed to. If you are needing counceling, GET IT! Whatever it takes to help you. You're worth it! Do what you can to help you get your success.

    Week 2 whatcha eating?

I'm 10 days post-op and I've been bad too. I had a south beach diet protein bar. It was the whipped peanut butter kind and it was SO good. I have no idea what I should have for dinner, but I'm sick of yogurt and soup.
  8. I was sleeved on Nov 12th... and am not hungry but I know that my body needs fuel... and I want to meet my minimum goal of 25grams of Protein. This is a sample of what I eat per day: B: 1/2 Greek Yogurt L: 1 tsp of Peanut Butter D: 1 Scrambled Egg Snack: 1 Low Fat cheese Stick At first I thought... if I'm not hungry or once I eat... if I'm full it's a good thing... cuz I don't want to learn to overeat with my new tummy. But my Dr told me that that's the worst thing that I could do to my body and that the first thing to go will be my hair So sometimes its a chore... but I slowly get it down! Good Luck!!!
  9. I make strawberry banana protein frozen yogurt. Target sells frozen strawberries and bananas and I put a cup in with 1/2 c Greek yogurt, 2 scoops protein powder, and a little stevia in a food processor. They are pretty hard when frozen so I put them in individual dishes that I can microwave for a few seconds before eating. It is really good.
  10. Surgery was 5/29, so far great, no sickness, no pain pills needed. My surgical glue is already starting to peel off, i go back to work tomorrow. I've lost 31 pounds since my first day of my liquid diet. So 31 pounds lost in 21 days. I feel great, I have tried small bites of yogurt, mashed potatoes, refried beans, and sugarfree vanilla pudding. Nothing upset my stomach. Im still on liquid diet other then just a small bite here and there. Getting my water, and trying to get all my protein in daily. I love how I feel, im excited to see how the months to come go. Good luck to everyone on the pre op side, and good luck to us all on post op side. Keep us posted. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Who's getting sleeved February 18?!?!

I had my surgery Monday, and came home today. The first day was decent, but the second day was more painful, and I came down with a fever. I had the leak test Tuesday morning, and it showed no leaks, but my fever concerned them. I cried myself to sleep Tuesday night. With the tummy pain, and the fever, I felt horrible. I woke up this morning and felt better. My temp was 99 which was down from 101. I've been home since 11am, and am feeling ok. I'm on clear liquids until Saturday. My stomach cramps when I drink, so that's been a challenge. I'm on liquid Loratab, which helps with the pain. I get to go back on protein drinks, yogurts and puddings Saturday. I'm hanging in there

    Who's getting sleeved February 18?!?!

Ok. For those of you who are finding it hard to get in all of your liquids, the diet my surgeon has perscribed for the two weeks after surgery has been doing very well for me. Of course, Follow your own surgeons directions but I hope this may help some of you that are having difficulty getting your liquids in. Instructions: 1. Consume 4 ounces of liquid per hour. (1 ounce every 15 minutes as tolerated) Include 2 ounces from Clear Liquids list and 2 ounces from Full Liquids list hourly. Do this every hour you are awake (at least 12 hours) to prevent dehydration. 2. As part of your liquids, include 8 ounces of a Protein supplement per day in 1 ounce portions. 3. Do not begin eating solid foods until directed to do so by your surgeon. Here is a list of items that my surgeon suggested: Clear liquid: *Fat Freem broth or Bullion (cubes, granules, or packets) *sugar free Jello *Sugar Free Popsicles (None with fruit bits at this stage as the bits could cause harm to sleeve) *Water and sugar free water flavor packets 10 calories or less- i.e. Wyler's Light, Crystal Light, Kool-aid. * Decaffinated Tea & coffee (can use splenda, equal, stevia, or sweet-n-low) Full Liquids: *Protein Supplement of choice *No Sugar added Carnation Breakfast Essentials *Mashed Potatoes (thin, no lumps) *Low Sodium V-8 juice (only during this 2 week phase) *No sugar added frozen yogurt (no fruit bits) *sugar-free custard or pudding (thinned) * Light yogurt (no fruit or nuts) *Skim, 1%, or 2% milk, rice milk, soy milk, Mootopia HEB Brand High Protein Milk (Probably only my fellow Texans will know about the Mootpia!) *Cream of Wheat, Cream of Rice, Malt-o-Meal (thinned) *Blended, Strained, Creamed Soups ( Blended cream of potato made with skim milk, no lumps) (this is very yummy) Foods NOT Allowed: *Sodas (not even Sprite) *Solid Food: until directed by surgeon *fruit juice (my surgeon recommends that you no longer drink fruit juice) *smoothies or Milkshakes (also never recommended) *Stews or chunky soups: (until directed by surgeon) * Honey or Syrup (don't add chocolate syrup to milk unless it's surgar free) *Sugar or Candy (Sweets of any kind) *Protein Bars, Beef Jerky, and Pork Rinds Hope this helps some of you!! I know it's working out pretty well for me, my only problem is staying awake long enough during the day to get continual liquids!

Slow Users-Banded a year or more

Hi tdosal, In the meantime, while you are waiting to get a de-fill (if you should decide to do that) you can have things like hummus, or a combination of rice and beans, milk, yogurt and eggs or egg whites if you can't handle whole eggs. I would see how you do over a couple of weeks, as sometimes adding food makes our body have to adjust and then it will realize you aren't starving yourself and use those extra calories. At least I'm certainly hoping so! And that's the theory I've heard. Mary
  15. Dumping is really rare with the sleeve even though some report it. Considering only 30% of RNY'ers dump, the % is even lower for VSG'ers. However, I developed lactose intolerance and your symptoms sound more like lactose issue rather than dumping. I was able to eat cheese and yogurt, but milk would do me in every time. Reactive hypoglycemia can also be common with the sleeve especially further out, when you have heavy fat or sugar foods after months of not consuming those foods. The lactose intolerance lasted for about a year for me post-op, and I still couldn't drink a lot of milk, but at least I could have some. Around the 3rd month of my pregnancy, it's back in full swing.

    Started at 29 BMI

Wow Im so happy I found this forum and topic!! Im a 30 BMI 5’ 3 170 and have dieted since I was 12. A few years ago I reached my highest weight ever of 229 but that was pregnant. my skin has been stretched out terrible. I lost 70lbs after losing the baby weight of 29lbs. So I got down to 130. But of course Im back up again. My pre diabetes keeps coming and going depending on my current weight. I honestly can’t handle it anymore. I eat 80 percent paleo not sugar or breads. No soda. I mean CLEAN!! But the scale keeps creeping up. I can’t work out like I use to do some health issues and joint pain. I don’t dare tell anyone because of the shame I feel about getting this done. I wanted to be a health coach and now Im having surgery. Its hard to explain. No one knows but my husband. So I have you guys to talk too. Im headed to Mexico next month to have surgery with Dr. Ponce at INT. Any advice on pre op and post op would be most appreciated. Im afraid of getting hypoglycemia after surgery. Also will I be able to work out hard like running and stay hydrated down the road? Im worried about throwing up and having acid reflex the rest of my life and regretting my decision. My doctor wants me to do 3 days before surgery of just yogurt and water. Is that really necessary? Also 10 days liquids. That freaks me out!!
  17. You should consult with your surgeon or nutritionist, as every plan is different. I was allowed protein shakes and drinkable yogurt on day 3 post-op, as I recall, but all my other liquids still had to be clear until I was allowed strained cream soups around day 7.
  18. So tomorrow it is my one week anniversary since being banded and I get to start puréed food. I'm pretty sure this means I have to start the one bite per 10 minutes and seperating my drinking from eating but just wanted to make sure. Haven't been hungry at all but I'm looking forward to some yogurt and cottage cheese, god I sound like such a girl.

    What Did I Do?

I couldn't stand the Protein drinks at all and so I started eating mushies a couple of weeks earlier than advised. I am now 5 weeks out and I can eat just about anything (slowly and in small amounts), As you know, you have to keep hydrated - have you tried some of the crystal lite additives, or even just a squirt of lemon in your Water? My NUT said that I was becoming "protein intolerant" and so I had to force myself to eat as much mushy stuff as I could stand - liverwurst, tuna, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese. Can you drink milk ? I certainly wouldn't be concerned about keeping things low fat at this point. You need to eat! What kind of infections did you have? Were you on antibiotics? They can really mess with the flora in your stomach. You may want to make sure you are eating live culture yogurt or take some acidolpholous supplements. I pray that you heal quickly and that your stomach stops being so sensitive.
  20. I'm about 5 weeks post op almost 6 now. I still can not tolerate much. My new tummy hates mashed potatoes, refried beans, avocado, chicken, tuna, and now even my protein shakes. A sip in and up it comes. Im living off iced tea, strained soup and yogurt and sick of it!!! My nut says some heal faster than others and dont get discouraged but how can I not? Im starting to feel regret. A month and a half later and I think, "will I ever eat again???" I have lost weight, yes. But is it because of the constant vomiting??? Ive already been hospitalized for dehydration because I couldnt keep fluids down. Had several infections, and now just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Please help. The constant regret and negative thoughts are taking over.
  21. I am not drinking any protein yet. My first step is clear fluids for 7 days ( broth, sf jello, 100% juice mixed with water) Saturday o get to move to full fluids. Super excited for that step. Cream soups and yogurt lol sounds like a dream. Sent from my SM-G955W using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it. In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root) 3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla) 3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest
  23. Whoa! that's good to know...I usually eat yogurt when I'm on Antibiotics to reduce the yeast infection risks, hopefully I can do that this time also. Good idea about waiting to buy foods...thanks so much!!!

    Being Vegetarian

Hi!!! I've been a vegetarian (ovo-lacto) for 17 years! The band has been pretty good to me. I no longer eat Pasta or rice but I eat everything else I ate pre-banding. I start each day with a Protein drink (unjury mixed with almond coconut milk and sometimes a little PB2). I have plain Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries and a couple of chocolate chips for a snack. lunch is usually vegetarian chicken salad or a boca spicy chicken patty with some salsa. Afternoon snack is some fresh fruit and a cheese stick. dinner varies but tonight I will have black Beans with 1 ounce cheddar cheese, salsa, and a couple tablespoons of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. During the summer I have made my famous ratatouille and a few varieties of cabbage Soup. (I actually have to make another one tomorrow!). I have a farm share so I always use fresh fruits and veggies. Oh and when I need extra calories I will juice some fresh veggies with a couple of apples.

    Why sugar free?

I prefer to use products that do not contain artificial sweeteners. That means, eating the 'real' thing, suger, when necessary. For example, with my 1 and only coffee in the morning. Also, when drinking my Dandilion Leaf tea, I now drink it without suger/sweetner, it's just better for me. For yogurt, I prefer to eat the ones with sugar, not fake stuff...who know's (down the road) what effects Sorbitol, Aspertame ect is going to have on our bodies? I just limit my intake of foods with sugar, refined sugar. A little in moderation is fine....
