I lived off scrambled eggs with cottage cheese, refried beans with sour cream and cheese, and greek yogurt.
-
My faves: mashed cauliflower with a little Parmesan, with added protein powder. Same with zucchini. Also cottage cheese with sugar-free jam. I also get shredded chicken, put it in the mini food processor with 2TB plain Greek yogurt, a tiny bit of avocado mayo, and lemon pepper...a pretty tasty chicken salad. Re fried beans hurt my stomach which was disappointing! For a treat I will have a teaspoon of peanut butter. I'll add unflavored protein powder to sugar-free pudding.

What are your go-to foods?

Greek yogurt with some Fiber One Cereal every morning for breakfast. I usually have 2 or 3 oz of baked chicken for lunch or dinner. I only cook chicken since that is all my son will eat. I also keep turkey jerky and roasted edemame for emergency snacks. And on occasion I have a protein bar if I really need something extra -
Had my DS 2/17/17. 74 pounds down. I'm excited to be out of the 300 club but should I have lost more?

I don't have one everyday.. probably every-other-day.. but they tend to be enormous! 8-O Sounds like you may want to evaluate what you are eating/drinking. Something might not be agreeing with you. Artificial sweeteners are a possibility. (Okios yogurt acts as a laxative for me.. I eat plain greek yogurt instead). Dairy is another common culprit. Spinach increases my transit time dramatically. Are the stools formed or watery? If watery, you might become dehydrated, so need to find a solution right away. If they are formed, then you have time to experiment. -
Are you ready for summer? – Tips to navigate your summer social calendar!
Bariatric Surgery Nutrition posted a magazine article in Food & Nutrition
Why? Schedules and meal times tend to be more lenient. The kids are off school and in full on vacation mode. The social calendar is fuller than ever. Even weeknights are no longer off limits. Nostalgic summer foods and refreshing drinks seem to be everywhere and oh so tempting! We want you to enjoy summer just like everyone else, but if your goal is weight maintenance or if you are still within 1 year postop, it is important to stay mindful. Here are some of our TOP TIPS...BBQs & BACKYARD PARTIES! - Hamburgers, hot dogs and ribs, oh my! If you’re the host, prepare marinated chicken and vegetable skewers. Skewers make perfect postop portions, but at the same time are an appropriate option for your other guests. Have you recently had surgery? There is a high likelihood that overcooked barbecue meats may be difficult for you to tolerate (i.e. causing a “stuck” feeling along with a lot of discomfort). Untoasted buns and bread may do the same. If this is the case, prepare a ‘safe food’ for the event. This means bringing a food that you know you tolerate well. Don’t just wing it! There is nothing worse than feeling sick or vomiting at a party. Examples of safe foods for those of you who are recently postop: Legume/bean salad Barbecue ready aluminum foil packets filled with marinated fish or chicken and vegetables. Encasing your foods in foil packets traps in the moisture making your foods tenderer. Tuna or egg salad served with crackers Hard shell tacos Skewers of watermelon + bocconcini cheese + basil or mint leaves, drizzled with balsamic vinegar Homemade smoothie popsicles (great option if you are only days postop!) ICE CREAM! - Tis the season! We are often asked by our patients “How often can I have ice cream?” and “How much ice cream can I have?” Remember that all foods fit after surgery. Ice cream is no different. We recommend our patients simply be mindful of their portions and indulge every now and then as opposed to daily. Sugar is addictive. The more you have, the more you want. If you had difficulty limiting sweets before surgery, consider limiting sweets after surgery to avoid falling back into the old habits. For example, instead of having a whole tub of ice cream in your freezer (which may be too tempting), allow yourself to have a child-sized cone once a week in town with friends. Another important consideration is: Did you have a gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y)? If yes, you are at risk of experiencing dumping syndrome with sweet foods like ice cream. Limit your portions of ice cream to simply tastings (ex. ¼ cup portions) or try these lower sugar options… Opt for fresh seasonal fruits + a spoonful of CoolWhip Invest in a homemade ice cream maker (Ex.https://www.bedbathandbeyond.ca/store/product/cuisinart-reg-ice-cream-frozen-yogurt-maker-in-white/3251572 ). For an instant cool treat, add in 1 full-sized container of vanilla yogurt + fresh seasonal fruit. Delicious! Try one of the many savory balsamic strawberry recipes on the internet for something different. Ex - https://www.acouplecooks.com/video-strawberries-with-balsamic-greek-yogurt-and-mint/ ALCOHOL! Alcohol is absorbed much faster into your bloodstream after surgery. For this reason, the effects can be intense. It is often said that 1 drink after surgery is equivalent to the feeling of 4-6 drinks before surgery! Patients often laugh about this statistic, but it is no joke. We recommend our patients limit themselves to one standard drink per evening and to serve it in ½ portions (Ex. ½ glass of wine + ice cubes). Never drive after drinking, regardless of the amount! Even one standard drink can raise your blood alcohol concentration above the legal driving limit. Remember that beer is also carbonated. Carbonated drinks (Ex. soda and fizzy water) are generally discouraged after surgery because it is suspected that they can stretch out your stomach with regular consumption. Whether or not this is actually the case has yet to be proven, but carbonation aside, beer and carbonated mixed drinks contain calories, and a lot of them! Patients often ask, “But what the heck am I supposed to drink this summer if I can’t have soda, beer, mixed drinks, fizzy water or more than 1 glass of wine!” This is a valid question. We admit that the alternatives are not super exciting. We recommend: Fruit-infused water Flavoured ice cubes (Ex. http://www.marthastewart.com/356419/flavored-ice-cube-ideas ) Homemade iced tea – Apparently Davids Tea’s ‘La vie en Rosé’ is refreshingly close to a true rosé wine! Similarly, Teavana has a fun mixology theme to their summer ice teas this year. Flavours include Beach Bellini, Strawberry Daiquiri, Mandarin Mimosa and Pina Colada! What are your favourite summer tips? Post below in the comments! Wishing you all a great start to your summer! -
What are your go-to foods?
SouthJerseySleever replied to MSinger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyday I have an oikos triple zero yogurt, a premier protein shake, cheese sticks for snack, and lately I've been loving chicken sausage from aldi. 1 link is 15g protein & the flavor is really good, my current fav is tomato basil. I also eat Starkist Tuna Creations pretty regularly. I try to get the most bang for my buck when it comes to protein. I also keep a bag of lightly salted edemamae in my purse. -
Hey all, I'm just wondering what foods/meals are in your regular rotation? Is it because they are high protein, very filling, you like the taste, your daily small guilty pleasure... etc..? I'm hoping to find some meal ideas. Foods in my regular rotation: I drink a premier protein shake every morning I have 4oz egg whites and 2slices of ultra thin cheese every day for breakfast I eat yogurt every day I add trulemon to my water every day because I (still) can't tolerate the taste of plain water. If you have any foods I'd love to know what they are. Thanks!

Hey just relax! I was anxious as well but I got a boost from a sorority sister who had bypass surgery. Yes, I stared the liquid diet actually 3weeks out...it will take time to adjust so start now! Eat something you like today as your last regular meal...like seafood or steak or whatever. Decide on starting protein shakes for breakfast, I started with slimfast shakes....I also had Ideal Shake....I use the IdealShake to feel up once in the day and the slim fast was the rest of the day. During the that first week I did slip but I only did a salad and it had a piece of grilled salmon but after that I went back to shakes!!!!! Most important was the week before the surgery, I exercised extensively, walking helped me reach my goAL weight. In addition to shakes I started sipping on broth, beef is better than chicken to me. I bought egg drop soup mix and it was good!!!!!....lol I went from a panicked 308 one week out to 294 on day of surgery. I'm resting today so my tummy can heal....I'm havin Popsicles and unjury with yogurt today....maybe some beef broth...lol... Val

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
briski replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be on a liquid diet for two weeks before and then up to day 20 post op. I'll be stocking up on jello, SF pudding, yogurt, Crystal light, protein shakes and SF popsicles. I also bought the clear premier fruit punch drink and a protein broth powder (haven't tried either yet) and am trying to find an unflavored protein powder. And even though I don't like it, I bought some unsweetened applesauce. -
Conquering the sweet tooth

If you have to have something pair it w protein to slow down the sugar entering your bloodstream. Like PB and apple, yogurt and berries, string cheese and a pear. Pick naturally occurring sugar. -
Early Plateau: Is something wrong?
julasif replied to GApeach80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So we were sleeved the same day. The EXACT thing happened to me! 18 lbs the first 13 days and then absolutely NOTHING until 3 days ago. I started eating every two hours and I upped my exercise to include some arm strengthen exercises and a VERY light jog on part of my walk(it's more like a shuffle really because I'm still afraid of jarring movements, but it seems to get my heart rate going a little faster than just walking alone). I also actually took out a protein shake. So I have 1 protein shake (Premier with 30grams protein), 1 serving cottage cheese (10 g protein), 1 yogurt (Greek triple 0 has 15 g protein), 1 spoonful hummus, I spoonful peanut butter, 1/4 cup broccoli cheddar or chicken soup). It's under 600 calories, and it seems to be working because I'm now down 3 lbs in 3 days. Or maybe it doesn't even matter and it was just naturally time for the stall to end. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see the scale moving again. Good luck to you! Just remember, nobody EVER stopped losing for good 2 weeks after weight loss surgery. Our body is just a little freaked out right now, I'm sure. -
I think I messed up!
GingerBananaBelly replied to kinipela24's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a lot of Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding, too. Neither are bad. In fact, a good Greek yogurt is packed with protein. I really like Oikos Triple Zero. It had no added sugar, no artificial flavors, and no fat PLUS 15 grams of protein! And it comes in a variety of super yummy flavors. As for your macros... I was only given one number to really watch - less than 10 sugars. Of course, that means I have to keep an eye on carbs, too. Definitely talk to your NUT. S/He can give you specifics for your program. -
Exhausted, 2 weeks out and nothing but water
Sosewsue61 replied to nikki1405's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not being mean, I am sure you want to follow your dr's orders, but honestly this is the ONLY time I ever heard of such restrictions for so long. Most say 700-800 calories first couple months, then to 1000 for a couple months, then to 1200, etc. ...60-80-100 gr protein daily as soon as you can, then some steamed veg. But full liquids are just to get you started, put unflavored protein powder in your soups, milk in your protein shakes, greek yogurt, etc to get the #gr of protein. You need protein for your metabolism and muscles or you will just lose muscle. Plus continue 64oz of fluids. Good luck. -
I just found out I have a bleeding ulcer. Waiting for endoscopy to be authorized. Are ulcers common after rny? I'm feeling so sick. I have to take two antibiotics plus carafate and Prilosec. Ugh. I don't even like to take vitamins! Last night was first dose and I woke up around 1am with a mouth full of medicine that refluxed back up apparently. Since this happened the doctor now wants me to crush the medicine and put it in water and drink it. Or in yogurt. Ugh!

RNs, What are you eating during your shift?
Introversion replied to JDRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I now have a work-from-home desk job these days. However, I worked as an RN house supervisor at a specialty hospital during my first year with the sleeve. I'm two years out and continue to drink protein shakes and eat protein bars. While your surgeon's advice is solid, he doesn't understand the time constraints of floor/unit nursing. When I worked the floor I packed protein bars, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, beef jerky, baked chicken drumsticks, deviled eggs, string cheese, chef's salads, and canned soups. -
Revised band to sleeve 12 days ago... mini freak out
TheSleevedTraveler replied to TheSleevedTraveler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's kind of the weird thing (hunger). I've learned after all these years that apparently there is a difference between head hunger and actual need for food. My head keeps saying "you should be eating something" and "a cheeseburger sounds amazing" and today "go to taco Tuesday" lol. But my stomach, it's just not wanting any of it. I have not truly felt physical hunger at all since before I had the sleeve surgery 17 days ago. Weird! Because I kind of don't trust my hunger-meter accuracy at the moment, I'm trying to stick with a routine to make sure I don't get dehydrated or malnourished. Every morning I have a protein water with a vitamin greens powder mix, gets most of my key nutrients in right away. Then mid day I'll have a protein shake with a banana and some nonfat milk and a little peanut butter in it. Mid afternoon I'll have a snack maybe yogurt or jello. Evening I'll make myself eat something like puréed soup. Then in the evening I take my chewable multi vitamin. So far that's been working ok. If I get ambitious enough I may try blending tuna and mayo like tuna salad, but have not tried yet. -
Vegetarian diet - is this impossible post-OP
BiteAtATime replied to chaya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second mari.beth's comments! Thank you for this thread! I am a pescatarian and will have gastric sleeve surgery on July 6 (am in a two-week liquid protein shake phase as I type). I have been researching high protein, low carbohydrate options for post-surgery life and am grateful for any suggestions! I can't drink dairy milk or eat dairy yogurt because of allergies (otherwise I'd love to eat high protein Greek yogurt!). I would love to find dairy free options that are lower carb and higher protein. I can still eat dairy cheese (at least my stomach tolerates it before surgery). I'd love to know how everyone is doing and get any other tips and suggestions from people! -
RNs, What are you eating during your shift?
sannie6226 replied to JDRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there I had my sleeve 5/24 and am a ER RN and breaks are a rarity for us too. Something that has been helping me is baby bell cheese. I can toss one in my pocket when I go in the break room to pee then eat when I chart. [emoji849] also Greek yogurt mixed with milk to make my own drinkable yogurts so I can drink on the go helps for sure. -
I don't eat very much processed foods at all. I eat full fat cheese and I just don't eat much sugar period. I do buy cottage cheese and yogurt, but I cook all my dinners using real food. Look for products that have no sugar added. Many of these are just naturally low in sugar. You should be fine.

Pre-OP Liquid diet recipes
mama3beartn replied to chamilton0323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes this is so nice. I got the Hot and Sour and strained all the stuff out and it was soooo yummy. I just finished my first week of three week pre-op diet and doing good. I'm down 8lb. ***My life saver is the sugar free jello. I add 1 scoop of Unjury Unflavored protein powder to a cup of cold water, mix real good and then add that to my already dissolved jello that is 1 cup hot water. I like firm firm jello so I do 2 pkgs jello to 2 cups water total. One hot to dissolve the jello and one cold for the Protein powder. Mix both and pour into single serve containers. I add the protein powder to make sure I get enough protein in for the day because I have trouble doing three premiere protein shakes a day. I really get sick of all the sweet. blah I also use Unjury Chicken flavor soup protein mix too... this is so good. I'm going to experiment and had it in unflavored gelatin see how that works. LOL - soup cubes *wink* I do use broth cubes for convenience, but I don't want to much sodium so I also buy the organic premade broth from Walmart. These are good and less sodium. I am allowed cottage cheese on my pre-op diet so that helps too, cause I can sprinkle with seasonings. I also am allowed Oikos triple zero yogurt once a day. Those are so yummy. Coffee flavor is my FaV! For those of you just starting your pre-op. I'm already not feeling as hungry as I used too. I have to remind myself sometimes to make sure I get enough stuff in for the day. Its true once you get past the first four or five days it gets easier. I do miss a crunch now and then. LOL - I did have (bad bad) a few of those quest protein chips. But just got right back on. This diet is to help us shrink our livers and drop a few pounds to help in lessen any complications during surgery. It also helps us detox and ready our body and minds for the changes its about to go through. Everybody's pre-op diet is different. Just depends on your program and doctors requirements and your current health. I'm scheduled July 12th and so excited and nervous. -
Ha, we are in the same boat. 2 weeks post op. One more week of full liquids. I'm hungry! I spoke to Nut today and she said to stay on track for another week and increase my protein as much as I want. i hate sf, ff stuff. I dont find it real food. Frankenfood. Only sf I do is crystal light. So, I make fresh soups and fruit infused waters and teas. ina garten's roasted tomato basil soup is awesome. Easy, puréed and strain through a fine strainer. Love it. I made this before surgery. Adding plain yogurt to bump protein and make it creamier. I made a Thai carrot soup which had peanut butter sauce in it. Amazingly! Epicurous.com has a fantastic black bean cumin jalapeño soups. This ne needed about 1 more cup of water to thin. Add a very small amount of liquid cheese (Campbell's cheese soup). Sour cream. Yummy. i make my own bone broth. No chemicals, good protein and healing collagen. Easy and cheap. I can make a gallon for about 9 bucks. I drink my protein shakes to hit my goal, then have fun. The soups are pretty low carb and fat because I'm only eating 1/2 Cup over 20-30 minutes. Good fiber also, which we need. Frankenfood had no fiber. Obviously I enjoy cooking, so I'm keeping busy tring to be creative. Hang in there.

7 days post op, liquid diet I have premier protein RTD shakes and clear. V8 is refreshingly different from the sweetness. I take plain non fat chobani yogurt (no sugar in it), add key lime juice and a little Splenda.. it's a fabulous key lime pie taste, refreshing too. I also make peppermint Patty shake= 8 oz skim milk, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, few drops of peppermint extract to taste and ice in blender. It's nice after bubbles (froth) settles. Ready for phase III though, I feel hungry most of the time. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
