  1. Having a little pause at three weeks is very common. It's important to follow your nutritionists instructions and eat well. Eating too few calories can actually stop you from losing weight because your body will go into starvation mode and actually conserve every calorie. Listen to your team and follow their instructions for the best results:) Good luck and best wishes.

    4 yrs banded

Hi, I have had the band for two years and 2 months! I am attempting to get an unfill, if I could just find out when the next clinic in Telford is. Everyone is nagging me that I need to stop losing weight, hence the unfill. It is a weird situation, I never expected to get down to a size 12 let alone be only 10st and falling! It is still the best thing I have ever done but my relationship with food has done an about turn and now I hardly eat. Has anyone else been through a similar experience? Suzy

    Tight in the morning?

Thanks gals. I figured it was normal. It lasted a bit longer today, so I just ate two egg whites with a spoonful of nonfat ricotta cheese. My doctor's office said I'll loosen up as I loose more weight. So I can't complain, atleast the weight is coming off and atleast I'm not PBing.
  4. I went for my 12 week follow up appointment on Friday. My surgeon was called out for surgery, so I met with one of the other surgeons in the office, whom I have met before, so I did not mind. My last follow up appointment was on October 30th (a month and 3 days after surgery) at which point I received a 1.5 cc fill, adding to the 2.5 cc's put in at time of surgery, for a total of 4 cc's in my 10 cc band. My surgeon was certain that I would need another fill by this next appointment (on Friday), however the other surgeon that I met with went on and on about how well I was doing. I have lost 30 pounds since surgery on 9/27/12. He said I have lost 23% of my excess weight in less than 3 months and said in his opinion I do not need a fill. When averaged out over the weeks since surgery I am losing about 2.33 pounds per week, which he said was amazing. I guess my question is, how many of you have gone in for a scheduled fill and not received one? He told me to call anytime before my next scheduled appointment to come in for a fill if I feel that I need one. What signs will I have if I need one? I am still very new to being banded and am looking for some Band Vets advice here. I do limit myself to a cup of food per meal, stay below 1100 calories a day, most days am successful of getting in all my Protein. I do snack between meals, still staying in my caloric range for the day. Like I said, I feel like I am missing something, or uneducated as to how I will know if I need a fill?? Thanks for any advice in advance and Merry Christmas to everyone!! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
  5. I am seeking information about a very strange feeling I have been having the past few days, that I fear is related to my band. I was banded in February 2007, and have for the most part had a pretty uneventful experience. I recently started feeling alot of pressure (fullness) in my abdomen, specifically on the left side and behind my belly button - it almost feels like my stomach is folding over the top of my pants when I sit down, and I am wondering if I did something to damage my band? I have gained some of my weight back, but can't imagine that would cause this feeling. I have not had an adjustment recently, and do not think this feeling is related to the level of restriction that I have. I am still able to eat about the same amount, but am absolutely miserable and scared with this feeling. If anyone else has had a similar experience, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. Thank you, mommi-hammi

    Make Me Feel Better!

Nope, didn't happen. YES, your STOMACH (VSG'rs do NOT have a pouch) will stretch a little as it heals but no where to it's capacity pre-op. You will always have restriction but your adherence to a good diet will ultimately determine whether you succeed with this WLS or not. ANYONE with WLS can NOT lose weight or REGAIN lost weight if the constantly cheat and graze on high cal, high carb foods all day long. You will CHEAT the sleeve and bypass it's benefits. Don't worry you haven't ruined your sleeve, just surprised yourself in the quantity you can eat and drink. And as always if you you have questions and concerns please ASK YOUR DOC. Try and measure your portions and stick with them.

    Help a Noob out...Please?

Hi PD, Post op for the first few days I was in the hospital. Likely you will need to find someone to care for your children during this time. I was quite weak too due to the lack of food and nutrients I was getting though it wasn't dibilitating. I was back to work in about 3 weeks for what I recall. You should ask every single question that comes to your mind. Keep a note pad with you, so you won't forget any. Write them down as soon as you can. Our brains can zoom a mile a minute during the pre-op phase with so much data and information! It will be easy to forget what you wanted to ask. As far as coffee, wean off it slowly. It took me an entire month to function without it. Going all at once you will find yourself miserably and all headache-y. No reason to put yourself through any extra misery when it can be prevented. One last thing you should know: This is NOT the easy way out. Your life is not going to miraculously become better post-op or once you reach your goal. You will have to work really hard to get to goal and you will have to work even harder to stay there. That said, I do not regret getting my surgery! It has saved me from gaining all my weight back and more like the old days. But I can eat a lot of bad foods if I don't watch myself. I can't eat too much of the good stuff though. So food choices will be super important. Good luck! If you ever need any questions asked, I'm around.

    Hello from Houston Texas

I was banded by Dr. Hollis on 8/19/2007! Go to HoustonAreaBandsters@yahoo.com and there is all kinds of info on local support groups. Dr. Hollis is on the site as well as "LapBandDoc". You and I have almost identical weight loss since our surgeries. Do you get your fills at True Results? What has your experience been? There is a huge difference between the two women who do fills and I have had issues...just wondered if you had too.

    Post-0p Weight Gain

Judy, I've been exactly where you are! I was so frustrated with the back and forth that first month. I couldn't believe I wasn't losing on 600 calories a day! I only lost 4 pounds the month after surgery and four the second month after!! It's so hard seeing everyone's tickers that seem to be losing so fast and you're doing everything right and not losing!!! Well here's the good news - After that second month post op the weight literally started falling off! I believe my body decided it wasn't starving and decided to let go of the calories. I know a lot of people on this forum do things differently than me, however this is what is working for me: I average 700 calories a day, 60 - 70g Protein, 30 -40g carb. 70 - 80oz. plain water. If I get hungry between meals I drink 16 - 24oz water all at once. My fills have helped, but I've been doing this from the beginning The fills have definatly helped curb my hunger, but I have to work very hard at it. It is so worth it though to see the scale go down every time I weigh now! Many have lost faster than me, but with my record for weight loss _ I'm thrilled. Just be patient and it will happen for you. You seem to have a good idea about what it takes to be successful so keep up the hard work and your body WILL respond!! Best wishes to you! .
  11. Hi everyone! I am just starting my surgery journey and need all the help I can get. I've gained and lost the 160 lb monster that's attached to me so many times it's insane. However, now with the threat of needing new hips it's just time for "her" to die. I have certain health problems but managed to dodge diabetes and cholesterol issues. I have high BP, now the hip thing, and sleep apnea. I am fairly active still for 330lbs doing hair about 50 hrs a week. I've been as high as 400lbz and as low as 189 in the past 10 years. I'm at the end of my rope. I need advice on how to get insurance to help pay. I have. BCBS of Louisiana. Has anyone here hD success with them? Any help is sincerely appreciated.

    Cardiac

One man in our support group was preparing for bariatric surgery. He was only a week away and very excited about his upcoming surgery. Then he received a surprise call from his surgeon calling him to report immediately to the hospital for a heart operation. He underwent the heart operation, spent about a month recovering from that and then went through the bariatric surgery. It is a year later and I still see him at support group meetings. He has lost a lot of weight and appears to be doing fine.
  13. Welcome, and congrats on your great weight losses! Good luck to you and your future losses! Karen
  14. Keep your head up! Maybe try changing your diet? Add more or less or change the intensity of your workouts? I don't know how far out u are or how much u have left to lose, but keep at it and don't give up! You will be losing weight in no time again. Think of how far you have come....

    What should i expect?

Wls has opened up so many opportunities for me. I have rhuematoid arthritis and losing the weight has allowed me to decrease the medication that was causing my weight gain. I have been on steroids for about 6 years and hopefully next year I can come off of them completely. My answer to why be this drastic an have the surgery is simple. With the surgery you still have the cravings you did before, but instead of having to rely on your will power your stomach not only says no - but screams HELL NO! I started where you are 256 at 5'3 and I am down about 85 after 6 months. I feel sexy and confident, and more like a woman ( if that makes any sense).
  16. Yet curious of the ppl in the 300 lb range age 21-27. What has been your progress? How much weight did you loose in what amount of time? Ex. 60lbs in 3 months. And how is your skin is far??

    Im still "THINKING" FAT

I think it will take a very long time for my mind to catch up. In my mind I am still a "plus size." Like someone else said, I'm the "big girl." I went from being the biggest girl in the office to being the thinnest, but I still feel like the big one. It is very strange. People at work tell me they don't think I should lose any more weight, but I still feel so "Xtra Large." I have learned to actually try on the clothes in my closet rather than just holding them up and trying to judge if they will fit. I shrunk out of a few things that I thought would still be to tight because I thought I was still so large. It would have been nice to wear those things a couple times along the way. Now I try things on even if I think they will be too tight even if it is just to see if they will be the next thing that will fit. I think my mind will catch up one of these days because I have been thin several times in my life. I just could not keep the weight off.

    Newbie From Michigan

Its going to be a journey well worth taking. I too have researched and wanted this surgery for years. Finally this year I came across someone that husband works with same company as my husband and told me that our insurance covered this surgery. I literally cried right there I was so happy. I even clocked out of work and immediately called the weight loss center to get things rolling. I am hoping my surgery will he in early November would be a big blessing if end if October but I know that us probably stretching it knowing my final appointment is October 23rd and then the wait begins for insurance approval. The office said can take anywhere from 2 day to 2 weeks. Then I guess will have to start my pre op liquid diet for a week

    Help Please

Hi.. what you feel is normal! You may even gain weight during the period before you get your first fill and find restriction. DO NOT panic! The most important thing you need to be focusing on right now is getting in your protein, and learning to CHEW. DO NOT compare yourself to others either.. I know its hard.. but it will just discourage you if youre not losing as fast as someone else. And to the other poster who got 5cc's on her first fill.. WOW.. aggressive doctor! I'm a year out.. had 3 fills and I'm only at 4.2cc's and feeling good restriction. I can't imagine jumping right in with 5cc's. But everyone is different with restriction levels.. that is for sure. Just hang in there.. I love my band!
  21. Hello everyone, I am a newly banded person and so far so good. I was banded on October 9th by Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico. Just from the liqiud diet alone I have already lost 30 pounds and loving it. I have a long way to go but it sure was a nice start. Getting back to the soft food was nice because that three weeks (1 pre op and two post op) of liquid diet is a killer. Next week I get to go back to all regular foods. I am vry glad for this forum so I can talk to other people who have had the same procedure because I have only told very few people what I have done. It is not that I am ashamed of getting it done but maybe more of a failier of not being able to lose weight on my own. I am not really sure how to feel actually. Anyways, maybe I am a bit confused!!!

    8 Days Out- No Loss

Time, grasshopper, time....it will come. Follow your plan and you'll be fine. Fretting does nothing but make you crazy and miserable!!! You are you and your body will lose at it it's own pace and in its own way...but it will come if you're doing what you should it really feels like you should lose 20 pounds that first week. You've eaten nothing!!! But our bodies are resourceful and know how to hang on to ever ounce when stressed. Take a deep breath, you'll be okay! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 206.8

    Pouch Worries?

I'm 6 weeks, almost 7, out of surgery and had that same worry. I actually gained a pound when I went to purred food from liquid. It freaked me out and got me upset. But now 7 weeks out I can definitely tell you there is a limit to what you can eat. My advise is to stick to the food plan the docs laid out. Find your satisfaction point no matter if its 1 oz or 5 oz and don't be discouraged at this point. Give it another week or two and if you are still at a stand still with weight talk to your doc.
