  1. Feels good doesn't it. My favorite NSVs are at the doctor's office too.
  2. Well, according to the body composition scale at the gym, today I weighed in at 214.8 lbs, making another straight week of around 2lbs lost. Amazing to be doing that at 17 months post-op, but who's complaining? Also, since 215 was my goal (adjusted downward from 225 originally), GOAAAL! Well, except that I've now adjusted it down AGAIN to 200. And in addition to losing 2 lbs in the past week, according to the body composition numbers, in the past month (ish, since 8/26) I've lost 2% body fat (4.4 lbs) and GAINED ~2% muscle (around 4 lbs). That's just amazing; my fitness guru at the gym was astounded, he said he's NEVER seen a guy in his 40's (ok, early 40's, but still) gain muscle and lose fat so fast. It's a VERY GOOD DAY.

    Losing too fast

Hey Saww62! Nice to see another guy on the site. I don't know what "too fast" really means - I wish I could wake up tomorrow 45 more pounds lighter! As a rule, men lose fast and the more you have to lose the faster it goes, at least at first. Do your best to work the program and don't worry about how fast it's going. You will look back on these days from your first plateau and wonder why you were worried at all. Ps. watch for the first few non-scale victories (NSV) too. For me, it was cool to be able to bend down and tie my shoes without gasping for breath. Good luck and congratulations on getting the band.
  4. I was also banded May 7th. At my last visit June 12th I had lost 14 lbs. (I'm a lower BMI to start). I'm only planning to weigh when I have my Dr's visits. I get too easily psyched out by the number game. Next weigh in and 2nd fill will be July 14th. I am enjoying the NSV's though. I had noticed my pants getting looser, and decided I need a new pair of capri's for something I had over the past weekend. So, I go to the store and choose a size lower than what I usually wear, but thot, just for fun, I'd also try on a pair 2 sizes smaller. Guess, what! They fit!! And very easily. I was thrilled. Bought 2 pairs. I am very carefully measuring my foods and making the best choices I can. It's a whole different thought process for me now. It's almost fun. The fill was a breeze............no numbing and didn't feel a thing. Looking forward to the next one!

Cinco De Mayo Bandsters Update Please

I was banded on May 15th and had my first fill June 12th. I get my second fill in two days. I have lost about 33 pounds since my highest weight. I don't have much restriction and I've been "on plan" most of the time since surgery, but I've indulged here and there too, which I know has slowed down my weight loss, but a few times, I fell into the trap of telling myself.... "I should have a sandwich because once I'm restricted I won't be able to". The restriction I feel is when I try to eat a full sized meal, like a restaurant meal of salad, 8 oz. prime rib, baked potato and veggies. Then I can't clean my plate as I used to (well I could, but I listen to what my tummy is telling me and I stop eating). I'm looking forward to a level of restriction that will allow me to safely eat smaller meals and feel as satisfied with the smaller meal as I do with the restaurant meal. I'm working out with the Wii Fit and using my treadmill. I've been going for walks in the park near my office at lunch time on pretty days. I feel really really good. I was walking with a cane due to a hip injury and arthritis at the time of my surgery, and I've already been able to give up the cane. And by the way, what are NSV's? It's great to hear from all my fellow May bandsters!
  6. Today I decided that I needed some new jeans and bras because my old ones were too big, so I stopped in Lane Bryant since I had a coupon. The saleswoman was very nice and helpful, but I was having a heck of a time finding my size (I'm a 14 now). As I was trying on a coat, she looked at me and said "You know, you're going to be too small for Lane Bryant pretty soon". I couldn't help but smile!

    1st NSV in a while!

Yay!! Great job Jenn. Yeah, I think it may be time for you to move out of Lane B and into the regular sized clothes stores. This is a great NSV. Ms. Lady, I am watching the clearance racks at stores now for 18, 16 and 14s. Just the other day at Stein Mart I got a cute spring/summer dress marked down from $68 to $3.95!!!! in a size 14. I have no doubt I will be out of my 22s and into a 14 by next spring/summer. It is the only way I can figure out how to clothe myself on my fixed income while moving through the sizes. I am trying to only buy a few things in each size and shopping only the clearance racks. I hope when I get to each size I won't be in them long enough to need much.
  8. I went to the store this weekend to buy all my 'outside' aisle things (that's my new goal - to only shop on the outside isles, dairy/eggs, veggies and meat). The cute little devils outside were selling my FAVORITE girl scout cookies. I didn't think it was fair for my husband who has NO struggles with weight to have to pay the price for my dieting ways (he's helping out so much already) so I bought him some Thin Mints and Tagalongs (both which I could do without). It took me a good 10 seconds to win the internal battle to NOT buy some Samoas (mind: "I can eat a couple and the kids can have the rest") but I DIDN'T buy them. I knew going in this would be one of my major pitfalls - I had already allowed myself to splurge on these but when the time came...I resisted! I'm so proud of myself. Next test...MiniEggs!

Whoa! Where'd did the "guts" come from?!

There are so many NSV in your post! That is awesome, congratulations on your success!
  10. I am human.... I know crazy. I am also am emotionally fueled female who wants things NOW! and I don't want to wait. When I started pursuing this journey I read and reread this forum, and others, I attended, and continue to attend support groups and I have read many books. I knew coming into this that I would be an individual, that I would go at my own pace, my own personal path and that I shouldn't ever compare myself to others. It is so easy to say "If I just knew my future, and where this journey leads me than maybe I could relax and enjoy the ride" except I can't! I am not moving at the pace I thought, or hoped I would when I started. I have no regrets, I love my sleeve, I love that I can go out to lunch with my family and be satisfied eating 1/3 of my meal, that a mear 3oz of Protein can sustain me for hours. I love that I don't struggle with Water, because I love my water.... However it is difficult to lose 1.8# in a week, when I know that I should embrace the loss and be happy that up until this point (7 weeks) I have not plateaued, stalled, or gained in any given week. Last night my best friend sent me this..... Dear Patient Girl, You knew when you started on this path towards your goals and your dreams, staying on the pathway that's meant just for you, that sometimes the road was going to get rough, that things would not always be fun or easy, and that you were willing to sacrifice whatever it took to get there. So why is it, gorgeous friend, that when things do get tough or boring, or when sacrifice is required, that we somehow forget and think that things must not be going exactly how they are supposed to be going, when we knew when we started that there would surely be days like this? Don't let the tough times get you down. They are part of the journey, and they are temporary. Learn what you can while you are in those times. But most of all, be patient, and let yourself remember that you knew this would happen, and you knew that you could and would make it. And you will. And you ARE. It will be worth it. You are so loved. ( ) Total Loss: (Since 5/13) 47.8# Since Pre Op Diet: (8/17/13) 35.8# Since Day of Surgery: (8/27/13) 25.8# NSV: Gone from a size 26 to a loose 20, run up stairs without getting short of breath, do an hour of cardio like it is nothing, finding bones I didn't know existed! Last night.... I was laying in my bed and I scratched my side and felt a lump... I was like OH MY GOSH so I felt again and it was my rib!!! MY RIB!!!
  11. When I first started this journey, I could not walk one block without needing to stop due to back pain and breathlessness. Today, I walked 2.7 miles. I was slow -- it took me an hour and 16 minutes -- but my back held up, and I felt really good and grateful the whole time. Anyone else have any non-scale victories to share?
  12. My best friend gave me 2 boxes full of tons of clothes! I was trying them on yesterday and I was happy when the size 10's seemed extra comfortable. I had tried on one pair of jeans that I really liked and though they zipped and buttoned with ease they weren't quite as roomy. None the less I liked the way they looked best so I decided to put them on for the day and I realized that they were a size 8!!! I was shocked, I have no idea when I was a size 8 before, I assumed it must be the jeans, so I looked through the box and found another pair of size 8, again they zipped with ease. I was cautiously excited but still thinking that it was just the luck of the jeans. So my husband and I went shopping, I tried on 4 different pairs of pants all a size 8 and all fit me!!! Of course some fit better then others but they all buttoned and zipped with ease. I can't believe that I am in a size 8 I have been a pretty slow but steady loser so for me this is an accomplishment, I wasn't sure that I would even make it to single digit clothes. My ultimate goal would be to wear a size 6 and now I am feeling like slow but steady might get me there, even if I take longer then others! I love these NSV's thanks for letting me share
  13. Got a new work shirt this morning coz the other one started to look like a dress! So now I'm 2xl instead of 3xl and the 2xl is still a bit baggy! :smile2:
  14. I ran 2 miles this morning. Pretty pumped up about it, as I was shooting for just one but kept on running (felt a bit like Gump). At the beginning of the year, I could barely walk a mile. This has been a life changer!

@@rp1980 those aren't good NSV's they are GREAT 28,000 steps i'd have to run hard to keep up wi th you running is against my religion i'd have to walk I can relate to the mention of how many lbs you (and me earlier) "still" have to loose(75 lbs for you) as you think about the above concentrate on well you are doing!!! instead of how much you have to go keep up the great job kathy congrats

    Black to White

Now thats a cool NSV Betje.... glad your feeling like a million bucks.. you go girl
  17. A great NSV. I went shopping this morning and found an awesome tube top like shirt. I fell in love with it and decided to grab it up. I hate trying on in the store, bad memories of nothing ever fitting. So I grabbed an XL and said to myself well it probably won't fit now but will be awesome for when we go to Florida in a month. I get home pull it up and it slides back down!!!! Woot woot!! So I go back to the store get the L in every color they had!! I love clothes so much I can't wait to buy more!!! Now If my bottom would just lose faster.... Ok with being pear shaped just wish it was a smaller pear haha.
  18. This little girl made my day! I am a manager at a 'tween' girl clothing store. As I was helping this sweet, 11 year-old, she said to me, "I like your shirt! Did you get it here!" I just smiled and said, "No Honey, but you're sweet to think I can wear these sizes!"
  19. YES! You are a success right now, today, in this moment! I absolutely could not agree with you more. Sure, I have that ticker to show my progress with my "goal" weight at the right end. But I'm with you, when it's just me and my skin and being comfortable within it -- I'm a success, too. I get more jollies out of daily NSV's than I do with numbers on a scale. BMI charts are overrated and something for doctor's to cling to when they want to encourage more healthy behaviors in their patients. To this day, I remember sitting in my doctor's office when I was about 26 years old and he told me I was "overweight" and needed to lose about 10lbs. This was at a time in my life when I was riding my bike 20-30 miles per day, 4-5 days per week. Running, kaying, hiking every weekend and wearing a size 4/6. I was 138lbs and he told me I was "overweight." I felt the best I'd ever felt in my life and this man was telling me I could "do better." Love the new profile pic!

    Low Bp! Yay!

So i have felt tired today and I asked one of the nurses to check my bp. I was 110/60. My bp has been dropping since surgery and I am on a low dose only of lisinopril. The dose is going to be cut in half and I will soon be off it!. This is a great NSV for me! I used to be on 3 drugs now almost on none for bp!
  21. So, our school secretary came up to me today and kindly offered to retake my yearbook picture because I look nothing like I did in September! [emoji4]

    Nsv!

Last time I wore this dress, I looked about 6 months pregnant... today, there's just a bit of muffin-top! = )
  23. Today I rode on public transportation for the first time since surgery... I realized half way through that someone was sitting next to me , and I was relaxed and enjoying myself. Previously I would be tense the whole way trying to make myself as small as possible... Felt liberating.
