Finally! Today I have my first fill. I have just been so frustrated with this whole appointment scheduling. I was suppose to have my appointment for 12/24, but I was not going to be eating only soup or whatever would be excluded from my diet, so I had to reschedule the appointment. It been two months, and the weight has been going back and forth. I guess I have to be grateful for being able to get into jeans that I haven't been able to fit for a long time. So for that I am grateful. I also took a two-week break from exercising, so I really can't complain for the reason that I haven't lost the weight. Today is Wednesday, and I have already worked out two days, and I finally included weighs into my program. I am feeling really good about that. I just want to be sucessful in my weight loss. I don't want to feel like I am missing out, by not eating foods that I don't need. I don't want to seek foods for comfort, I want to be better than that. I know that God will bring me through that. I am kinda nervous about this fill process, but I am ready for the leaves to be cleared on my path to weight loss and better health. Yayyyy

After having my bypass surgery postponed twice, it's finally going to happen on ELECTION DAY Nov. 8, 2016! The USA may be getting a new president that day, but I am getting a new lease on life and I am so thankful. Today is day 9 on my liver shrink diet and so far, I've done well. I am pleased with the weight that I've lost so far these past few days. It's been a long road since June with numerous blood tests, x-rays, ct scans, pet scans, and biopsies, to get me well today and I thank the Lord for this. I intend to do all that I can to be as successful as I can possibly be. I just wanted to share my happy news with you, and thank you all for your encouragement to not give up! ~Debi~

I am almost 5 weeks out and anything I eat causes discomfort. The only thing that goes down ok and stays down ok is crackers. I am not sure if I am eating too much, too fast or what. My sleeve seems to be very very tiny- it would honestly suit me just fine to not eat at all, but I keep trying because I know that is how I'm going to lose the weight. Any advice??

I am very embarrassed to say that I weighed myself on my birthday (20th January) and I was 132kg. Today I am 89kg so I feel much better. I look everything and compare it to how much weight I have lost eg: 20 2kg bags of sugar. I am amazed at how I could have dragged that much around. I still have no idea what size I am and go straight for the larger size it hasnt really sunk in yet. I have never been happier though. My sister asked me what was the down side of banding and I really couldnt come up with any really good reasons.
-
Wow you have done well, wha was your starting weight, but am concerned re the saliva, definately ring your doctor to discuss that has never happened to me.
-
If you don't have too many replies yet on your offer to be a bandster buddy, I would love your help. I was banded on April 3rd and have lost 62lbs thus far. I sure would love to have some insight on A) how to keep losing (I've had a bad plateau recently) How do you keep the weight off and "normailze" when your goal is reached?

Weight gain and freaking out.
Truckerchic replied to CaliGal1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Marieze, yes basically to what you said. Even though one has a small pouch you can still make bad food choices, eat to often or past the point of full. I have never dumped and can eat all the same foods I ate before surgery. People have surgery for different reasons but if one has a food addiction and doesn't address that I could see how some can gain weight back no matter what surgery. -
Fill Amount Question
jen_1381 replied to tomato pie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only had one fill so far (surgery May 18th) but he did 3 cc's and I have an 11 cc band. My surgeon said he goes fill by fill, no set amount schedule, and judges it by weight loss. He said he typically will do 3 for the first one and asked if I agreed (kind of surprised me - like I know the difference right now! It was a nice gesture though.) -
I'm on the five-year plan. I've got the bad polyps. This is my year to get it done. I've never had trouble with the prep in the past, but now I have a little pouch. The prep includes drinking a massive amount Water along with a whole bottle of miralax and magnesium citrate. I asked the nurse (surgeon's team) and they said to ask the gastroenterology folks when I made my appointment. When I made my appointment, I asked about prep alternatives and they weren't sure. They asked me to check with my primary physician. Surely, I can't be the first gastric bypass person to get a colonoscopy at this rather large clinic in Minneapolis. Has anyone here had a colonoscopy done after they've had weight-loss surgery? Did you have an alternative to the prep or the procedure? I thought I would explore my options before writing my primary care physician an email. I will also google it, but do want to hear first hand from people about their experience (pros and cons). This way I could tell her which alternative I prefer. Thank you so much for your responses!

We are a year out... How is everyone doing?
running_scared replied to running_scared's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yep! I know that I can easily maintain my weight, while listening to my hunger cues, and eating smaller portions of pretty much whatever I want. That's a huge victory, compared to before surgery -
How do we get those neat weight tracker bars that everyone has in here?

I decided when I started this journey in May 2015 that I wanted to live. I wanted to physically live to see grandchildren, but I also wanted to fully engage in life. I have been doing that pretty well for 60 years but I didn't want to decay bit by bit as I saw family members age with health issues. So I had surgery in late September. Part of the process was going to be a trip to Europe with my just graduated college child. She has been my biggest supporter (this morning - mom, I can Heimlich you now as she wrapped her arms around me for a hug). We just got back from three wonderful weeks in Great Britain. I climbed every one of the hundreds of steps in each castle. Walked five to 10 miles a day. Had a flat in London that was two flights up. Up and down stairs in the tube. At one cathedral I thought I had reached the top, only to find another staircase even twister and steeper than the first few. I looked up and could see no end to it. I turned away and started back down. I stopped. Did I do all this to not go to the tip-top of the cathedral? Of course not. I deserved the whole experience and that included the breath-taking view from the very top. The best though was passport control when I arrived. The immigration officer looked at my passport, then me, and said, well you've lost a lot of weight. Good job. I smiled and told him thanks. And made a mental note to get a new passport. I have many more trips ahead and although I enjoyed his noticing, I want all future immigration officers to see a face that matches the passport! Oh, and I lost five pounds!

Help me with my macros please
Crafty-in-Carolina replied to Crafty-in-Carolina's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Looking back at MFP diary, it looks like a lot of 25/35/40 carb/protein/fat lately. I am a bit concerned for my kidneys with maintaining such high protein over the long term. I should also say that I'm just as concerned for overall health as weight maintenance, so I do want a good macro balance. I don't seem to be super carb sensitive. My surgeon tests metabolism again at 1 year, so I have a few more months before getting a precise measure. So for now I can only estimate. -
I was sleeved on 2/22/17 I've lost 21 lbs since surgery and 43 in 6 week period. I know a lot of people that hit a Plateau and stay there for a lil while. How fast did others lose weight? And how much?

6 month supervised diet... really???
Guest replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have my 6th visit on August 9. Calm down! Anything good is worth waiting for. When I started, I told my doc that I really wanted to establish new eating habits. It was hard sometimes. I ate right and exercised. None of that was fun! My weightloss was slooooow and steady. Since then, I have lost 35 lbs. :cheer2: Somedays I was ill......especially when I didn't lose weight. Hindsight.......I am glad I did it. It allowed me to prepare for my new eating and especially learn a lot about calories and serving sizes. The biggest plus......I have 35 less pounds to lose. Take it in stride and learn to eat better. Your Insurance Company knows...only the strong survive!!!:fencing: Before you know it, you will be approved and scheduled for surgery. You will have to adapt to eating better after the sleeve anyway. -
6 month supervised diet... really???
JimmyGotSLEEVED replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been trying to get this surgery for over 2 years now. I've done the 6 month weight loss routine 3 times already just for the doctors to tell me last minute that they did not take my insurance. I've went to several seminars, support groups, dietitians, and psychartrics and it's become overwhelming. As you can see I have 3 times the amount of knowledge then Most because they went thru it once and I think it's a waste of my time. I'm jus spending, spending, and spending... Hopefully I don't get a repeat of the last 2 years this year. -
out of control.
madwife2002 replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put on 10 lbs before surgery-and then had to loose 18 lbs before they would perform the surgery My Dr counted the weight I had on the day I first saw him, the weight I had to loose was initially 8 lbs but because it takes a while to do all the testing and getting approval I gained 10 more lbs. In April I had to start dieting I had 5 weeks to loose the weight by my pre op check in-or surgery would be cancelled. I did manage to loose it thank goodness -
Jan 21, 06 -- Saw Dr. Billy on Thursday and he gave me the all clear. He and I discussed what I was doing now opposed to what I was NOT doing with the band. I am doing the Nutrisystem meals and counting my calories like mad. I am ever so gradually getting back into my exercise routine. He also wants me to start two lists. SIGH!! One list is of the "thing" that are keeping me from losing weight. Something like eating after 8p, or eating too many calories, etc. Then state how I can correct that issue. Make a plan on how to correct the behavior. The second list is of all the foods I love to eat. Once I have exhausted my pea brain of the items, he wants me to begin with the first item and learn everything I can about that food. He wants me to take a picture of the food per the serving. If chicken is my first item then get a pic of a serving (4 oz) both cooked and uncooked. Learn what the calorie and protein values are of that serving. Take the pic and the info and put it into a folder or notebook so I can refer to it. Do that with all the foods I list. Pic one food a week to learn all I can about it. This will be an exercise in diligence. And consistency as well. SIGH!! OH If I had just done this while I was banded. All in all he was very pleased with my progress while on Nutrisystem. He wants to see me in about 8 weeks. We did not even discuss my options post band removal. I guess it really is too soon to discuss that. In the meantime, I have just completed my Video for the Biggest Loser. YIPPEE!!! I will get that mailed off in the next couple of days. I wanna tweak it some.

From the album: Journey (Original Title!)
Another before picture, taken about 6 weeks before surgery. Weight about 275. -
Getting excited and nervous! Surgery approved and scheduled for September 4th with the possibility they may move it to the 3rd due to a cancellation. All my pre-op lab work and testing is done and without any concerns. Same for my psych eval, barium swallow, chest x-ray, EKG, and EGD. Did all my pre-op nutrition appointments (I was fast tracked, so there weren't as many as most of you had). Did the pre-op group class where they explained my pre-op diet and what to expect at the hospital and post op. Started my bariatric vitamins last week. Purchased any food/supplies that I think I might need for the first couple weeks post op (my husband even told me to get him a new bigger TV so I can have a TV in my room the first couple days lol... and he got a 65" screen out of it lol). Today I did my final pre-op weigh in and doctor visit. Saw another doc first (teaching hospital), then my real doc. Signed my surgery consent. Too my surprise, the doc also told me that it doesn't matter how much weight I lose now, I am totally approved for surgery (before I had to be careful I didn't put myself under a certain weight and disqualify myself). YAY! I also asked him about how much time I can take off work (I have 14 weeks of sick time saved up and a supportive employer- not that I actually want 14 weeks off, just didn't take all my sick time over the many years I worked there). He said a minimum of 2 weeks but up to 8 since I do have a fairly physical job. YAY! I could probably get away with going back early, but why push myself when I have the time and support? I would rather heal, adjust to my new diet(s) over the next month or so, and slowly build a new fitness routine before going back to the craziness that is work. Not sure how many weeks I will actually take off, but good to know I have options. And then finally, I went to a pre-op anesthesia appointment. Answered all of their questions and signed their consent. So... all that is left is to call and confirm the time of my surgery the afternoon before! And how did I celebrate? I got my last meal of my favorite Indian food. Yum! And my husband is TRYING to be supportive of all of this, but he really doesn't want me to have what he considers to be elective surgery. I understand where he is coming from, especially since every one of his surgeries has had some sort of complications. But my surgeries have all been routine and without complication. And I really need to improve my health and this seems to be the only way to get me there.

you're down to your original surgery weight because, like most of us, you probably "gained" weight while in the hospital because of all the IV fluids. It can take up to a week for them to work their way out of your system. I've heard of people "gaining" as much as 10 lbs while in the hospital! fluids go through our stomachs really fast since our pyloric valves were bypassed, so I'd be very surprised if you could stretch your stomach from fluids. Maybe you could if you REALLY slammed them, but 40-50 oz over the course of the day isn't "really slamming" them. I've never heard of anyone doing that from drinking fluids, and we were never warned we could stretch our stomachs from that. So...I'm not sure what to say...

What can I do to minimize skin sagging while losing weight? I'm 65 lbs down and about 90 more to go. Any thoughts on Spanx or certain creams? TIA
