I TOTALLY relate to this NSV, Dooter! This is the best part of eating out, in my opinion...measuring how many inches of free space between me and the table! I used to fear and hate booths. Now I choose them because I can! Yippie! -

Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
Dooter replied to Birdy18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I expected all the worst, and got all the best! The first 24 hrs. after surgery was rough because I was STRICT NPO, not even a single ice chip! That made me gag a few times. After that it was all uphill. They want us to sip an oz. of Fluid every 15 minutes after that first 24 hrs. Well, in a couple of days I was doing FOUR oz. every 15 minutes, and my pain was well managed by the meds prescribed. (I had a pretty good sized hernia repaired, so that caused some discomfort.) My healing progressed in a textbook fashion and I've not had a single complication (Thank you GOD!!) And I can eat any and all foods without problem or pain, and I've not thrown up once since surgery, and I've never "slimed." This could not have gone any better. I'm just amazed every day. I've lost almost 85 lbs. since February. I've got absolutely nothing to complain about. One thing I've noticed around here- aside from the "NSVs" we never really report when we "feel good." It doesn't seem that interesting or require a response. Most people post when there is trouble, or can wear a smaller size pants. We just don't think to say, "hey, by the way, I had a really non-complicated surgery." And maybe we should, just so all you noobs can see that it's not just doom and gloom in your future. I think there are a great number of us who had a terrific experience. Hopefully you'll hear from more.... -
Mission Possible (Nsv's & Other Awesome Happenings!)
vanishingvixen posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
(size 22-24 / size 12-14) Just sticking my head in. Things have beed SO incredibly crazy for me and haven't had time to really sit down and pull all of my thoughts together. I'll post the short version here: Have accomplished quite a bit since the last check-in. I finally scale moving, but my body is being sculpted at an amazing rate, due to my love of running. (left pic: from my first 5k in April. right pic is from 2 weeks ago) (Only about 5# gone, but LOTS of inches GONE) The inches are disappearing, but STILL haven't hit One-derland, and I'm almost 2 years out. More important to me though, have become the NSV's... This coming weekend, I will be doing a 5k race up at Yankee Stadium to raise money for Cancer Research (something extreamly near & dear to my heart). The course takes place inside the stadium, and incorporates the concourses, ramps, and stairs. STOKED, but nervous...and ever-ready for a challenge. I also took to the challenge of doing BOTH the Marine Corps 10k and the Zombie 5k obstacle course in the same weekend at the end of October, so I am in training mode. That will surely show me what I'm made of! In other news: my eating has been pretty good. I'm focused. But I'd be lying if I didn't say how frustrated I am with the scale not showing all of the effort I'm putting in. I guess it shouldn't be important...but it is. No matter - I plan to keep going. Something will eventually have to give, right!??!? SO...MORE IMPORTANTLY: how is everyone doing?!?!?!? What challenges have you been having?? What NSV's have made you smile the most? -
Labor Day Challenge 2012
whataloser replied to jhansen71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Started two weeks ago, been up and down a little but lost another two pounds this week. Total lost since starting the challenge: 5 1/2 pounds. Almost ten months out and it's slow (but sure) from here. NSV: Able to do sit-ups again! Am exercising daily and that's helping a lot. Only 29 days left in this challenge though, and I still have 14 1/2 pounds to go to meet my goal. Arggh. -

Last time I wore this dress, I looked about 6 months pregnant... today, there's just a bit of muffin-top! = )

That's an awesome NSV and an awesome picture... not to mention that those shoes are an NSV in and of themselves!!!

That's great. I've been in that situation in the past. It's one of those "I can't believe I can't fit and I'm eating stuff that will make me even fatter" moments. Great job one of the best NSVs that I've seen.

This must be the night for "Booth or Table" NSVs!! Hooray!! 7 months ago, I went to this pizza place here in Albuquerque, and the only place to sit was a teeny tiny booth for 2. I reluctantly sat there with my husband, and I had to SQUUUEEEEEEZE myself into it, and then it was hard to eat because the table was pressing me in half and I was hanging out in the aisle. I cried in frustration and embarrassment. I told him at the time I was going to come back in six months and make that booth my B***H!! Well, here's my B***H: Take THAT booth!!

Nsv...water Park Slides
traceyinflorida replied to cassieh's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Woo hoo! What a fun way to spend time with your kids! Great NSV! -
Just had to share. I went to a water park tonight with my 2 children and my church and I went down the water slides. It has been over 20 years since I was comfortable enough to even attempt going on them. My girls were so happy and we had a blast. I will be attempting roller coasters next. BTW, I am 4 months out and down 94 lbs. Started at 330 and down to 236.
-
That is awesome! I love that you and your husband get to share the same NSV too! Congratulations!
-
That's an awesome NSV. Congrats!

My BIGGEST fear when going out to eat was always making sure they have tables available. I'm never able to fit into a booth. UNTIL NOW!!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! We went to our favorite diner and the waitress seated us, and took us to a booth. My hubby just looked at me, knowing that I always ask for a table. This time I just nodded and said 'this is fine' and I literally just slipped right in!!!! Such a stupid thing but I felt amazing. It was so cozy and my hubby and I giggled the entire dinner how exciting it was that we both fit in a booth! (he never fit either, he's sleeved too!) love my sleeve. Love my nsv's. Love everything now. <3

The View From Atop This Plateau Is Not Good
jen_1381 posted a blog entry in Taking Those First Steps
Well I've hit a plateau in a big way. It's oh-so-frustrating. I know that plateaus are normal. I know that everyone hits them every now and then. Does that make me feel better? Meh. I've gone two weeks with absolutely no change. I know, you're probably thinking 14 days insn't bad compared to some who plateau for months, but this is very new to me. Last time I went on a weight loss journey (pre-band), I did fantastic until I hit a plateau 20 lbs away from my goal. I rode it out for a few weeks then slowly sunk into my old habits and gained ALL of the weight back. What's scaring me is that last time I stopped losing at 190 lbs. Very close to where I am now, and I can't help but wonder if my body just isn't meant to walk this Earth at 160 lbs. Maybe this is all of the good I can do? I know that's the pessimistic side of me thinking, but I'm trying SO hard to break this. I tried increasing my calorie intake. Nada. Tried decreasing my normal by 200. Nothing. Tried upping my exercise and changing up my routine. Zilch. Even stopped exercising for two days. Nope. At least I'm not gaining..but really, I'm putting in the hard work. What gives?! I want so bad to be at a flat 193 when I see the doctor in 8 days. I've done so well at hitting my goals up until now. A coworker asked me two weeks ago how much I'd lost (he didn't know I had Lap Band) and I told him I had finally just hit the 50 lb mark. On Friday, he made another comment about my amazing weight loss and how good it looks. I felt like screaming - I HAVEN'T LOST ANY MORE THAN TWO WEEKS AGO!! But I refrained, and gave him that smile and you're-making-me-feel-awkward face. Okay, disclaimer: I'm usually NOT this negative (okay well I sometimes am but I don't say it out loud). I really am a glass-half-full person and am finally getting used to my "new" body. I just felt like I was on such a roll, and now I've stopped and am spinning in circles. My NSV that keeps me going is that I caught myself all curled up in my office chair last week. Like, feet up on the seat, curled up in a ball (I really was working! Just computer stuff gets boring sometimes). I noticed it and I actually felt comfortable, not like I was pinched in half and couldn't breathe. So yeah...that's kept me going through the week. -

I'm new...and clueless! What's NSV?

Hello everyone!! I have not been posting a lot but I have been reading and taking notes!! That is the only way to make sure I write the correct comments to the right people!! LOL! Lady-I am at the same size as you!! 14-16 depending on the store. How exciting to look in the mirror and see your collarbone!! You stated you wanted to be able to be full at 1/4 cup, but I do not think that is the right amount. At the beginning right after surgery it was 1/4 cup, but as we have healed our stomachs have stretch again. My doctor always asks me if I can eat a full chicken breast in a 20 minute setting and I respond I eat slow so I can eat a full chicken breast (about 1/2 cup) and veggies (1/2 cup or more) in 30 minutes and he was very happy about that. As for being able to eat bread and pasta, I haven't even tried pasta, rice or soft bread. I have eaten a Panini, extra crispy and felt uncomfortable, like almost stuck. Oh and I am at 3.4cc in a 10cc band and I am not tight in the morning yet. I think you might be close to your "sweet spot" maybe just a .2cc away!! Horsegirl and Otaknam-I was stuck at 220 for awhile and it took over a month to kick that plateau, but it happened very suddenly!! Good luck! Also I was told by my doctor that the weightloss will slow down quite a bit after the first 6 mths, the body looses a lot when it has a lot to loose and looses a little when it has a little to loose. I know it sucks, but we have all lost a lot, more than any diet we have ever been on!! I keep reminding myself I know it will take over a year to hit my goal weight so why am I rushing myself!!! And I hear all of you on the water retention!!! I can't wait for Fall to get here so I can see the scale go down a little faster! Horsegirl- congrats on the new workout clothes!! That was one of my favorite NSV when my XL workout clothes were loose!! I now love shopping for workout clothes now since I can get them from anywhere instead of having to order online and hope for the best! I love to shop too!!! JDI-Don't beat yourself up for eating solids during your liquid/mush stage, I've done it too! This time I am trying to be good, but I too am hungry!! I was wondering, did you get stuck at all?? To me it is kind of a test to see if the fill did any good. You should be so proud of yourself to handle all of the stress and still loose!! In the past stress would cause us to binge, now we just have a cookie, enjoy it and move on! Go us!!! I can't believe you are down 72lbs that is amazing!!! I am looking forward to my 71lbs lost putting me for the first time in 16 years below 200!!! Erica-you made me realize I am over my halfway point too! I didn't even think of it that way!! I was spending all of my energy trying to get to Onederland that I did not thing about my 1/2 way point!!! I have lost 53% of my goal loss!!! Thanks for helping me see the good in what I have accomplished!! Chrissy-you are so right about comparing our self to what we looked like last year! My sister took a picture of me while on vacation and it is now my FB profile pic and everyone is complementing me on how good I look, so I looked at all of my previous profile pics and I totally see the difference. I also looked at my drivers license and I am totally getting a new one!! Again congrats on the Onelander and 75lbs!!! Now for my update! I got .2cc on Thursday and I am suppose to do 2 days liquids and 2 days mushies, and I am starving!! This time I am sticking to it though I would like the liquid loss!! So far I am doing pretty good on my new goals, except the exercise this week, but that is due to being on vacation, so I will start again next week which is tomorrow!!LOL. I think we should repost our goals and stated how we are doing on them at least once a week. I will try to post mine on Saturdays!! That way we can be reminded of each others goals!! Have a good week everyone and look at some old pics to give you some NSV!! Don't forget to look at your drivers license too!!
