Revision from sleeve to bypass
Connie.58 replied to throckmorton's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Kathy, It will get better. I had gastric bypass 14 years ago. Everything I liked before surgery (eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese) I couldn't eat at all after surgery. Eventually the taste for it came back. Unfortunately 3 years ago my mom passed away and I've been gaining the weight back. I'm scheduled next month for a revision. I'm kinda nervous, my last surgery was in a different state and with a different surgeon. This surgeon is great, did my sister-in-law's sleeve. There are a lot more "rules" and steps than when I had it done the first time Hope all goes well. I'm missing out on too much with my children and grandchildren - time to get my life back! -
The dreaded pre op liquid diet, some doctors require it some dont, some its 2 weeks others 2 days. Whatever they require they ask you to do it for a reason. Not to starve you to death, torture you or see if you can stay on a diet, its to shrink your liver and prepare your body. First thing more important than what you will be eating or should I say drinking is get your HEAD in the game! This pre op is the first step, you have to be mentally ready. Prepare you kitchen, get rid of temptation! Have kids and just have to have all the fattin sugary snacks in the house lock it up if need be or maybe make this a time to get your family involved in a healthy lifestyle, but dont let that be an excuse take charge. Know exactly what you can have, how much and when. If your NUT does not hand you a sheet and says if its not on here you cant have it...ask ask ask they are there to help you. Once again all programs are different, many will say 3 shakes a day thats it but if you ask or say you just cant do that they may allow cream soup, yogurt sf pudding and sf jello...so once again ask! We all want to succeed at this change and this is just one of those steps to get there, a small price for this journey. Good luck to all pre ops!

Everything tastes gross! Help!
notmyname replied to HoneyBeBrave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says that of something doesn't work for you, try it again in a couple of months. I wouldn't force yourself to eat stuff you can't stand. Some things that have worked for me: Ricotta bake (google eggface's ricotta bake). Pureed black beans with a bit of cheese Lentils Homemade cocoa (1c fairlife fat free milk, 1TBL unsweetened cocoa, 1 packet stevia) eggs white fish yogurt - no sugar added (maybe try different flavors to cut up the monotony) - I like Oikos tripple zero and Chobani Good luck - I'm sorry you're going through this. -
Day 3 After Surgery & Hungry
Wheety3 replied to csoto81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am post-op day 3 and I havent felt hungry hardly at all. Getting my protein shakes in and sipping on water all day. Then I can have yogurt, broth, or sugar free popcycles twice a day. Those popcycles are so good. I like the cold on my throat. The doctor did tell me that he did put some liquid in the band during surgery. He has found that the patients need this to make it through the liquid stage. -
Lap band 03-02-09
YngGram replied to boknowsbo2@bellsouth.net's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I got my band on 3-9, I am on full liquids--Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink (no surgar added), High Protein Slim Fast. I use the powder with skim milk. My doc says no 1% or 2% as it has to much fat. No sugar popciles, crystal light, tea and water. I can have apple or grape juice that is cut with water. I plan to have some egg drop soup next week as I head into the mushies just because I miss something that has a good taste. I can add yogurt and cottage cheese next. -
Greek yogurt is also a great source of protein.

January 2011 Banders
GavynsMum replied to blueshell23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rumor: I haven't had trouble drinking either and feel like i am doing something wrong because i am not only sipping 1 oz per 15 minutes but instead drinking a few ounces at a time when i read on here about people not being able to sip an oz at a time. I am going to chop this up to Water not filling the pouch and just slidding through due to less swelling than some. I get to start Full liquids tomorrow which includes ONLY the following : yogurt, milk, Protein shakes, pudding, soupy grits, and strained cream soup (and clear liquids). I have been on Clear Liquids since Sunday (1 day before surgery). My atkins shake never tasted so good and i am looking forward to some grits tomorrow morning. My only complaints are the tightness, hunger pains, gas, and the diarrhea (TMI). No one told me about the last one. I guess it is a given; liquid in...liquid out. I can wait to start mushies on day 15. It was worth it though. Hope everyone is doing well! -
Difficulty With Protein
littlerlou replied to littlerlou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW! Do you know round about what the calorie count is on this? Are you using fresh fruit or Greek Yogurt with fruit? Does the splenda cut down the sour taste? -
Which Greek yogurt is best? I like Chobani but with the fruit can I have that ?
-
Yes, and you got me addicted. Key lime with crushed pecans, yummy. My store runs out of it and I've had to get a fat free other brand and mix it with fat free plain yogurt to get the same taste. Thanks for my addiction TKW!

Stalling so soon????
determined1 replied to Classiladi13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a great thread, I too am stalled Today is day 15 for me and I lost 21 pounds which is good, but I lost that the first 10 days! It seemed like the stall happened when I started to introduce mushies so not sure if its the different types of foods. I pretty much only eat protein, my meal plan: Breakfast I have a string cheese 9g, mid morning snack protein shake 30g, lunch (one of the following) 1/4 cottage cheese or greek yogurt, ground roasted chicken, or baby food turkey. I get my water in so I'm not sure whats happening, I understand its normal but I never thought it would happen so soon. Does anyone find anything wrong with my meal plan? I'll just hang in there, and hope for the best! Good luck everyone!! -
Not even yogurt? Fage with raspberry sugar free syrup is my new favorite....

ladivaluz806 replied to NthQldAus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a hard time with breakfast as well.. but I force it even if its sipping on my protien until its all gone around 10 am. As for yogurts, I like Siggi's its high in Protein and very little sugar. http://siggisdairy.com/ -

I like Gene pro medical grade protien. It has 30 grams of protien and 57 calories. I put it in coffee or Soup, yogurt, smoothies, whatever. It is a nearly flavorless powder. Available on amazon. Sent from my SM-T377P using the BariatricPal App -
So gutted got told yesterday my surgery was moved from today 16th December to 17th. Yes only moved by 1 day but I've syked myself up, I'd packed up my car and was just finishing work to drive up. Instead I've wasted a day of my annual leave and am on milk and yogurts for another day. Am so upset and so annoyed. I know it's only 1 day but it makes all the difference. I'd arranged for my mum to take me, she had taken the day off. Now she can't come with me and I have to travel alone a nervous wreck. Was supposed to be called back by my surgeon to explain but nothing. Will call again at 9am and hope I can have it today.

Eating out! How do you sleevers do it?
delta_girl replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
FallenAngel has some great suggestions. I have a few "go to" places now for specific choices. Panera - low fat chicken noodle soup McDonald's - yogurt parfait Wendy's - 1/2 grilled chicken salad with no dressing any Japanese - edamame and sashimi any Vietnamese - fresh (not fried, in the almost transparent rice wrap) spring roll with shrimp and veggies I have also learned the word "dry" for food prep when ordering. This means that you would like your fish, chicken or vegetables cooked with little or no oil or fat. -
Difficulty With Protein
littlerlou replied to littlerlou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the suggestions. I do the cottage cheese. I tried the Greek yogurt and didnt like it very much. -
pre op diet was high protein shakes, broths sugar fee jello, sugar free pudding, sugar free yogurt. diet soda, koolade etc skim milk. It actually made me full but became monotonous after 10 days. I lost 10 lbs. The anesthesia went fine. the whole surgery went fine. I was sore for a couple of days .I was driving within 24 hours.I walked at the mall but became easily tired and had to go home right away. Day five I was no longer sore. I did discover Im allergic to the steri strips that they close the incision with. I broke out and had to remove them. It is day 6 and I am now eating pureed food. I "never" got nauseous before or after surgery. My surgery so far has been textbook. I alswo have lost another pound

if you're still seeing your bariatric team, I'd start there. Or if not, is it possible to see them again? Otherwise, if you're not still tracking your food intake, start there. Track for a couple of weeks to figure out what your average calorie intake is now. Then try cutting back by 100 calories or so for another couple of weeks. If that doesn't do the trick, cut back by another 100 calories. Rinse and repeat. Eventually you'll find the level where you'll start losing weight. also, start doing some of things we did that first year after surgery (NOT all the way back to shakes and purees - I mean how we ate after the first couple of months - focusing mostly on protein and non-starchy vegetables. Then if you have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or whole-grain carb). if you're having trouble with hunger while cutting back, add in more vegetables - I try to eat vegetables with every meal when I'm trying to lose (I don't always with breakfast, but I DO blend a cup of fresh spinach or kale in with my morning protein shake to make up for it). I also always keep raw veggies (with a dip made from plain Greek yogurt and ranch dressing mix), sugar free popsicles, and sugar free Jello around, too. Healthy fats like avocado and peanut butter or a handful of nuts can also help with the hunger - but just have a small portion of those since they're pretty high in calories. good luck with this. I know it's tough - I'm battling a 10-lb COVID gain right now and I know it isn't easy, but people do it... At least you're catching it at 40 lbs while it's still do-able oh btw - I know a lot of people who've regained who've had success with Weight Watchers, Keto, and/or intermittent fasting - so those might be options for you, too...

Well I got over my pizza craving the hard way! I am now on a full diet... so yesterday I decided to have 1 small slice of thin crust light cheese pizza... and it got stuck. If this hasn't happened to you yet count your blessings, as it's extremely uncomfortable. :grouphug: It'll be a while till I consider having pizza again! Except for the crustless kind, that is- it's an idea I got on this site. I take some pizza toppings, add some low fat mozzarella and sauce, and microwave. Today: B: 1 small yogurt and a small soy latte L: 1 cup broth-based soup Snack: 1 yogurt parfait (yogurt with berries and a little granola topping) D: (planned): 1 crustless pizza (1/2 cup total)
