how is everyone doing now? I personally cannot eat sooo many foods! No ground meats, no beans, no celery, no roasted meats either! I am officially known in my family as the soup nazi! Lately, no yogurts either. I have not had a fill for 9 months. My previous fill of .6 cc was removed., then had another fill 4 months after removal. That was 9 months ago. I seem to be able to eat a lot of bad things tho. As popcorn, mashed potatoes and cookies! I am within 12 pounds of my goal weight but no weight loss for one year. If I try to eat meat it gets stuck. Always. I know for health reasons weight loss is good. But....was this a good decision? Will it always be like this? I feel bad now!!

I have diverticulities and spastic colon. Since getting the band I haven't had diarreah. In fact, just the opposite which is all new to me. Having a spastic colon I was used to having food "turn" on me and heading for the bathroom. I now eat an Activia, a type of yogurt, everyday. It helps keep you regular without having to take Fiber. You might want to give this a try. You must have had a diverticuli get infected and that is no fun. I try to stay away from foods that I know will cause me problems. Hope you are on the mend. PM me if you have any additional questions or concerns. Its something I've had for years, but the band only 7 weeks.

Have had up to 9cc's and no real difference
vegors replied to lapband967's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay TCT2FLY, you suck! To be able to eat that and STILL lose weight, you are sooooo lucky! Have made it half way thru day one of the 5 day pouch diet and have only had yogurt as the funeral I went to had lasgna and garlic bread and cake for dessert. I then got a frantic call from my hubby who has the day off and our hot water heater had leaked water all over our basement, so spent the last few hours cleaning that all up. I am having a Fresca, which I know is carbonated, but has no caffeine, which is what we are suppose to avoid on this 5 day diet, but I have that old left shoulder ache, which tells me I have gas going on inside there and I need to burp or move around a lot to get rid of it. Amazing what you notice when you are not thinking about food all the time. Right now I am not hungry, which is good, but then I also have been so busy cleaning up that darn basement that I have had no time to think about it. My stomach did growl when I smelled that good old garlic coming from the kitchen at church! -
Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?
kjhack replied to nothingcomesez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am kind of in this stage too. I have restriction for the first time since I got my band in october 2008. It is very difficult to know how much to eat. I am very tight in the morning. So I usually can only get down 1/2 a yogurt. Then the afternoon is better. 1/2 cup of food at lunch. I just got my fill on monday, so if it gets any tighter I may have to have some removed. Hope we all get this thing figured out. The hardest thing for me is to slow down, at dinner. By the time dinner comes I am starving. -
I can only eat about 1/4 cup of meat at a time. Then 10 min later I am dry heaving. But I can eat 1/2 cup of eggs, cottage cheese and yogurt. then I am still hungry 2 hours later. My binder says I should try and eat more protein. but I can only eat a small amount of meat for example, chicken, meat balls, meat loaf, salmon. the binder also says to eat very slowly, take 20 then if you are not still hungry eat more. Should I start that? Any suggestions could help. I am also sleeve 4.5 weeks ago.

It's best to eat every 2 or 3 hours. I have a Greek Yogurt in between each meal as a snack to fill me up and give me extra protein. The yogurts with my fluids, are keeping me feeling full and getting me through the day. Good luck.

I will be doing a variation of keto in that I have no intention of eating any fruit since I don't care for most of it and I don't want to trigger any sugar cravings. I also have gluten sensitivity and don't eat any gluten containing products (wheat/barley/rye) or the gluten free crap they sell at the store. I do make my own almond bread which I do not plan to have until much later. I love almost all vegetables and I am the queen of cauliflower. I absolutely adore chicken or shrimp fried "rice" with cauliflower as well as other recipes. I plan for this to be my ongoing weight loss diet. I do not purchase any fat free stuff and use small amounts of regular unsalted butter and/or EVOO. I did get some plain, reduced fat FAGE greek yogurt for my current postop period but not eating much of it (2-3 ounces per day) Protein sources of chicken breast, salmon, shrimp, fish, black or red beans. Not a big red meat fan. Love all types of cheese but will have very little, more like a garnish. I dislike sodas and juices so no worries there. My downfall are the candy type protein bars (atkins and others) and sugar free chocolate stuff that taste so good that it is hard to eat a reasonable portion so those are out. Swearing off all alcohol until football season at the very earliest. Hopefully by then I will not want it.

Hmmm lemme see... well the fibresure is availeable at coles, woolworths etc, in the same spot as the metamucil and pear juice is in a tin in the same sections as they sell the shelved juices at all the supermarkets. Now as I said the kapaipuku seed stuff can be obtained off their website... or a sample which would be better for you to start ( to make sure it goes down) by requesting it ...it should arrive in about 5 days. I would prob start right now with a stool softener like coloxyl tabs...or movicol (sachets of powder you mix into Water and drink) both availeable from the chemist so that you can soften the hard bulk you already have sitting in there so it will move out easily. At the same time I would begin the regime of the pear juice and the fibresure Dont panic that it doesnt work straight away....you have some compaction there and this is very natural action so it isnt as violent as say the sienna etc on the gut...it also wont slow anything down with prolonged use so you can continue it every day. I actually found that the kapaipuku really helped. It actually tones the bowel walls so they work better,it kind of conditions it so that when I stopped using it and continued with the fibresure and pear that I was doing at the same time it kept the ball rolling. To make a similar concoction to the kapaipuku you can mix together in a plastic container the following and have 2Tablespoons for morning and afternoon.. this is what I did till I got my sample and it worked a treat. Make sure you have the Seed mix and the pear juice ( mix the fibresure into the pear juice) first thing in the morning on an empty belly. After 3 days of eating the seed mix I went 3 times a day for about 4 days...it cleaned me right out. I felt so much better. Then it slowed down to the once a day...Dont worry about difficulty in passing the offending bussiness the fibresure keeps it soft. Here is the ingredients of the seed mix, just buy them from the supermarket and the health food store...get small packs or you will end up with a bucket full. whole flax seed sesame seeds poppy seeds buckweat (raw) almonds (slivered or chopped) sunflower seeds currants or dried apricots (chopped) Mix all together and have 2 Tablespoons in either yogurt or soaked in pear juice over night or pour over milk and have cold or nuke it to make a nutty porridge. I hope this helps.. I know it sounds like a fiddle to start with but after a week you will be able to just have the juice with the fibresure everyday.

My nutritionist said that they usually recommend 70, but since I'm tall (5'10"), I have to shoot for 80 as well. I agree... it's hard! I try to choose cooking ingredients with the highest quantity of protein: chicken stock instead of broth, Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise, milk instead of Water in Protein shakes, etc. I also eat a lot of protein-ey Snacks - cottage cheese, cheese sticks, Greek yogurt, Kozy Shack has a 100-cal pudding snack that has 5g of protein (and is very yummy)! I make it my goal to get to 80 every day without having to resort to shakes or supplements. Most days I succeed, but just barely! Good luck!

Any February sleevers Dr. Ismael Cabrera? looking for buddies
dkandsm replied to Back2BnPetite's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I did okay as far as sticking to the diet for 10 days, which also included 4 days of Clear liquids. My diet didn't include salad, but did have the 3 protein shakes per day along with sugar free jello and plain Greek yogurt. I didn't really lose any weight, however, which baffled me. Dr. Cabrera told me that he could tell I followed the pre op diet very well as my liver was shrunk up nicely. Following the diet for two weeks, I'm sure you will lose what you need to. Remember if you get too hungry, you can add some lean protein to the salad. Good luck to you; you can do it!!! -
I never counted fat grams at all. During the weight loss phase, I counted protein and, after the first 3 or 4 months (when I could eat more), I started watching overall calories. I do intentionally eat some fat now (like full-fat yogurts, avocado, etc) because it keeps me full. But again, I watch my calories.

Hi All, - Everyone's getting on board with the exercise. I did 10 minutes of level 10 on the bike, it was a struggle, but I think I got the same results of 20 min at a lower level. Going to try for 15min at level 10 next. Levels 6 and 7 are feeling like 3 and 4. I use those levels as my 5 minute cool down. Tammy, 11 pounds, you'll hit soon. Then it's on to maintaining your brand new weight. I won't be there any time soon. But look forward to seeing you get there. Then you can tell us what's it's like on that side of the fence. Did that scale come in yet? If so, how is it working for you? Didn't order mines yet, still trying to find it cheaper. metawnny- when I feel that I'm about to blow it, I take a yogurt drink filled with fruits and powdered "Protein mix" or have tunafish and crackers or deli slices. Anything to keep from eating a full meal. And I mean a full meal. Even though I measure them, they're still a full meal. I've come across the word P-bing, what does that mean? I have an idea but need to be sure. I haven't quite figured it out yet, but do anyone have trouble eating semi-solid foods in the mornings, ie scrambled eggs/omelets? The first bite and they were small and I felt it was well chewed felt tight going down. The second and third bites did the same. I felt so bad, I thought they would just sit where they were. My throat and chest began to burn and I felt like I couldn't breath. The one time I wished it would come back up. When they reached my stomach it felt worse. After about 15 minutes the sensation began to ease and the food went down. After my stomach calmed down, I was then able to finish it. I'm not sure if this will be a morning thing to be careful with. This has happened after my last fill I had last week. I understand why it happened with tunafish and crackers also egg sandwich, for Breakfast dry food, but "eggs"?. I hope this won't be problem now. I know some meats, like chicken breast is suggeted not to eat. I haven't had any since my fill, so not sure if that will be a problem too. Now that I'm thinking about it, I really haven't eaten meat since last week. Mostly fish, am I on the road to becoming a vegetarian? My daughter would like that very much? Well, everyone have a great weekend. Looking to read positive results from everyone.

What Does Lap Band Restriction Feel Like??
Army's girl replied to Army's girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So last night I was able to eat real solid food! I don't feel ANY restriction now & my portions are getting bigger. This is not suppossed to be happening& I'm really frustrated. I'm going to gym on weekends bcuz lately I've been working long hours & I'm just too exhausted by the end of my shift to go to any gym. After cooking, feeding the dogs and going over homework its 8:45pm & I'm beat!! lol I'm really looking forward to getting this fill so I can finally get back to losing weight. Any suggestions in the meantime? The protein shakes don't hold me at all & neither do the puddings, yogurts, cheese & etc. I never feel nauseau or throw up either (I wish I would though so I'd be scared to eat). I'm kinda down of this. -
Has Anyone Tried New Whey Protien Liquid?
snuggie replied to Merydia710's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am using it now and am 6 days out of surgery. It's awesome. I have a tube of that which is 42g of protein then have a 23g shake and a 12g yogurt and that does it for the day. Great favors like watermelon and blue raspberry. I add 4oz of water because it is very sweet. -
Oh I've been there too! (Honestly, is there a bandster who hasn't?) It can be very painful and scary. I've slimed in coffee cups, lunch bags, plastic bags, the side of the road...ugh. I have an hour commute each way and I'm not open enough to eat before I leave for work, so I've started having my coffee in the car to open me up, maybe a protein bar if I'm open enough, and then I eat yogurt or cottage cheese when I get to work. I was running late one morning and tried to eat a sandwich in the car...IN THE MORNING! What the heck was I thinking!?!? That was not one of my finer moments.

Hi there, I'm looking at the BioEntrics manual right now and it states for the first one to four weeks all you can eat is clear broth or Soup (no vegis/meat and not creamy), low-fat yogurt, milk (pref. skim), Jello, and fruit juice or pureed soft fruit. Maybe try going back to that and see if it helps? Also, you are only supposed to eat a half teacup of food, not a cup. Roberta

I would never ever ever eat a lot of artificially sweetened products! It never took scientific evidence for me to feel that I should just use sugar in moderation, and curb my sweet tooth. Sweet foods are sweet foods and if they have proper proportion in your diet, the calories are not going to be a problem. A gallon of soft drink a day is not moderation, you cant get away with it just by switching to the artificially sweetened version. I feel that way about fat too. I drink skim milk because I really hate the taste of full cream but other than that, I eat the full fat version of things. I might eat a carton of yogurt two times a week, so to me, I'm not going to sacrifice the taste for a smidgin less fat. I buy full cream natural yogurt and I love it. Ditto Cookies and stuff, I just dont bother with the low fat because I shouldnt be eating many of them anyway.

Here's a true sample: B - Isopure shake (50g of protein) S - Grapes (2-3oz) L - 1/2 can of Albacore Tuna, lots of spinich greens, romaine lettuce, red onions, sprinkle american cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, 5 croutons and Mikoto ginger dressing S-1/2 of Isopure drink D - Sometimes the other half of the salad, at other times, grilled chicken breast, steamed broccoli with velveta cheese melted on it (1 slice) S-Light Dannon Yogurt drink 1-gallon or more of Water daily Also too, dinner life has really changed in my home. I prepare my daily meals early in the morning and will eat according to plan throughout the day. I will, however make my family a separate meal for dinner, such as pork chops, mac n cheese, cooked veggies. They will never eat what I make for me therefore, I have to take care of them differently.

IN a typical day I eat: 530am-protein bar 8am- yogurt 11am- lunch...maybe some chicken or turkey or almost a whole can of tuna fish 2p small snack like grapes or a string cheese 530p dinner.. a small bit of whatever i have made the family 8p Protein shake "dessert" I feel fine and I am losing fine still. -
This is not to slam anyone, but I really would like some input. I read here so many that say the band doesn't work, or that 20,30,or 40lbs have come off and now nothing. I realize that many of you have had problems with slippage or some other medial issue, so I'm not thinking of you, I have been reflecting and I'm finding some greal gray areas for myself. I started to make my food changes the day of my seminar, I cut out sweet tea, sodas, starting taking smaller portions , no drink with food and soon started to feel bertter. And I was working hard to drink my Water. I choose the band because the bypass scared me, and I didn't like the look of those who had it. I followed my own changes from Nov. until my 2 week pre op diet.in Feb. I was down 18lbs on that day. I was good about following the instructions and the weight keep coming off. I didn't exercise much, just watched what I ate. When I finally lost 63 lbs. and was in a size 12....I lost my mind. I got lazy and stopped following the rules. I lost my commitment to the program. I stopped loosing . Even knowing this I can't get on track. I say these things because I don't think we are all as commited as we once were, we are not as honest with ourselves as we need to be. For me candy keeps wandering into my home, coffee creams are the devils inventtion and sugar has rentered through a back door. Still knowing this, I can't seem to shake things back in the right places. I started this journey because I didn't want to be on a diet for life, and I don't feel I am. One of my problems is that even though I don't have ture restriction, I don't have a problem with hunger, I thought if I wasn't hungry I shouldn't eat...very wrong. I am stumped about how to fix where I am, I need to loose anthore 30-35lbs to be in the guidelines. I would like to loose about 15 to feel like I had a true result for my effor. I don't think doc will do a fill since I'm not hungry. I try to eat meat & veggies but it is usually only once a day. Yogurt and Protein drinks to try to get the protein in. My life schedule is strange and gym time never seems to come. So, is it not working or am I doning something wrong.
-
Yes, that is what I mean.. My typical day would consist of Yogurt, cottage cheese, or oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch was soup, chili etc. (no crackers or bread) then for dinner I ate scrambled eggs with cheese etc. So what he said is that it is still ok to eat soft foods for breakfast since that is when I am the tightest, then after that no more soft foods. For lunch I now eat a can of chicken (at costco) with some light miracle whip and sweet pickles. A Smart One frozen meal with chicken and veggies, protein bars, sandwich meat with a cheese stick. For dinner I eat grilled chicken breast (4 oz.) with a veggie of some kind, salad or otherwise. It has made a huge difference. I am not hungry in-between meals either.

Band Feels Tighter , But I Haven't Had A Fill. Is This Normal?
jhilburnmichael replied to lorena st's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I remember immediately after my surgery, barely able to eat a few bites of yogurt or Soup. Then the swelling went down, and I had to keep getting fills over the course of 6 months. I then went a year without a fill, and was concerned that I could eat a jr hamburger (yes, I was tempted, and was able to eat it). The Dr. said I shouldn't wait so long to come in, the Water can evaporate (how that's possible in a closed system is beyond me). So I got a good fill, and was back on the road to weight loss. Then this month (it's been another year since my last fill, but I've lost 25 lbs in the last year - so I wasn't going to run in and get a fill when I keep losing weight) I lost 10 lbs. Feels like my band is tight, like I just had a fill. That's how I found this site. I wondered if rapid weight loss might cause the band to tighten. I am definitely not complaining. in the 2yrs and 4 months since my surgery i've lost 70 lbs. I just took in a bunch of custom clothes I had made, after my first big weight loss, to the tailor to have them altered 3 pant sizes. My brain has definitely been trained. I used to drive by McDonalds and stop to get fries (even if I wasn't hungry). Now I keep driving. I can't barely eat 1 or 2 fries without regurgitating them. I eat soup and salad most days. My appetite is a fraction of what it used to be (I would order 2 combo meals for lunch and 2 combo meals for dinner...now I can't even do 2 fries!). This surgery was the best thing I could do for my health. My Blood Pressure is better, I feel better, and I save so much money on NOT eating out, or even eating period.
