Chronic Cough before the Surgery
Brownhoney7 replied to MsMamaBaby1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there anybody who is diagnosed with hypothyroid disease and having a slow weight lost after banding? -
Hello and congratulations on joining the band! I only have one thing to say - CALM DOWN! :tongue2: You're going to worry yourself to death, which, by the way, is absolutely normal. You've made a drastic change for your life. The surgery was just the beginning. But remember it didn't change your mindset, it only changed your body internally. The external changes - actions, lost weight - will come as time goes by. I think you might be stuck in the same mentality that many of us are - the DIET MENTALITY. This is not a "diet" but a new way of thinking about eating, food, and self-image. It will take time, Fellow Bandster. I'm about eight weeks out & I'm still fighting to stay off the scale everyday. Instead, I'm making sure I get all my Protein & fluids in. Working on being more active. The rest will happen. So I end with the word of advice I began with - CALM DOWN - you're doing fine. Don't think about what you ate, but WHY you ate. Dealing with those issues are far more demanding than keeping some Pasta out of your mouth. :cursing: Best to You

3/28/07 No lost weight from the Pre-Op diet, but my clothes aren't as tight. I guess that is okay. After all, I am doing this because it is difficult to lose weight on my own. I am so excited. Everyone keeps asking me if I am nervous. I haven't figured out why I should be nervous. Tomorrow is my new birthday. Today is the last day of the "old" me. I have been shocked by the number of people that do not want me to do this. The physicians that I have talked to about it, tell me what a wonderful thing I am doing, my family has tried to talk me out of it. It is not okay for me to be the fat girl with the pretty face anymore. I want to be the healthy, pretty girl. I don't want my children's friends to tell my little girls that "your mom is fat!" I don't want to be embarrassed to attend functions at my children's schools because they are ashamed of my weight. Am I the only one that feels that way? Is that shallow of me? Do I need therapy? Boo Hoo Hoo.:cry Okay, the pity party is over. Gotta go get some water down me before I go to bed so I can be up in the bathroom all night.

Hi everyone, I am so glad I found this site. My name is Dona Cross. I am a married mother of three. My kids are 21, 19 and soon to be 18. Two oldest are sons, youngest a daughter. I am 48 years old and morbidly obese. Morbidly obese sounds horrifying....I thought I was just fat! Anyway, I have been preparing for lap band since January 2008. In September of 2007 I found out that I have diabetes. This didn't come as a surprise to me...my brother and 6 first cousins are diabetic, my grandmother was also. My sons weighed 10lb. 3oz. and 10 lb. 11 oz. at birth. We thought my daughter was tiny; she weighed 8 lbs. 14 oz.! After the diagnosis of diabetes I got serious about my health. I don't want to be one of those old ladies in the nursing home weighing 270 lbs. with no legs having to have overworked and underpaid CNA's taking care of me. So, I went to a lap band seminar, got my doctor's wholehearted approval and started meeting requirements for surgery. I have documented diet and exercise requirements almost done and received a O.K. from my insurance to have the psych. eval. After that, my bariatric clinician will set up my pre-op requirements. I am so excited about this. I have tried not to have unrealistic expectations, but I am looking forward to good health again. I am so happy to have contact with others who are experiencing the same journey. Some of my friends are not as supportive as I would have hoped they would be. They think I should just go to Weight Watchers and the gym and I will be fine. Don't they think I've tried that? I do however have a supportive family and an amazing church family to help me. Anyway, thanks in advance for your support. I'm looking forward to making new friends.

Good luck John on you upcoming surgery. My insurance requires 6 months and I am in month two. I went to two weight loss surgery classes, two support group meetings and just had a Psych evaluation on Friday. I have a nutritionist apt on Oct 15th and a mandatory informational session with the Surgeon on the same date. Then I have to see the nutritionist 3 more times and one more surgery weight loss class. I am not looking to have the surgery approved until February 2014. I will be praying for your success and I will be following you.

Anticipation Nation For all of us who are anticipating everything from our sleeve surgery date to becoming our goal weight, let us join forces and stand together! I have been researching this option since early 2011 and never made the move to activily pursue it .... till recently. I had my consultation with the surgeon this week and have more appointments in a couple weeks. I have my mandatory appointments set up with the nutritionist, psychologist and support group meetings, and believe it or not, my surgery date is scheduled for September 4th 2012! It's completely set up, all I need to do is stay determined and follow all the necessary things (medical tests, appointments, meetings etc) and I will be 100% ready to start my new life! Yes, I have some anxiety, but its the good kind. I feel excited and happy to come to a solid decision and know I will be physically and emotionally ready for a healthier new me. Who is with me? Who wants to gain control of their weight and go down this path together with me? We can help each other, and it will be great! :-)

Good morning. Not really for me. I woke up with a bad headache. I am pretty sure it has to do with a combination of sinuses and my period. I took two Motrin. My incisions definately feel better than yesterday. I just ate a small bowl of mocha almond fudge ice cream with no addded sugar. I ate it really slowly and let each spoonfull liquify before swallowing. I was supposed to blend it with milk but I don't see the difference, as long as I wait for it to melt before swallowing. I am hungry. I didn't think I'd be hungry this soon. I haven't even lost all of the surgery weight yet. I think I'll try a protein drink for lunch. That might take away. my hunger. As I write this, my eyes keep shutting. i must go back to sleep.

Why Do I Have to Lose Weight Before Surgery?
ScentsyLady posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can someone tell me why I would have to lose weight before I can have surgery? Will it keep me from being approved for sleeve procedure? 6 months seems such a long time to wait! I love this forum and spend a lot of time reading some amazing stories! Thanks! -

My first surgiversary! (pics included)
Dtrain84 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've already posted in the before and after thread. I thought I do a separate thread. Today is my first surgiversary! I've been in a 3 month stall. With RNY, I accomplished my loss without any strenuous exercise (due to a heart condition). I'm 25lbs away from goal weight and I feel great! HW: 334 SW: 319 CW: 205 GW: 180 -
I am 4 mo out on 12th and 57lbs down I carry most of my weight in my belly. It hangs now...I do workout 3-4 times a week but I feel pain in my sides and under the flap I guess u would call it..is this common? I think from it hanging so much it's pulling? I also have lots of redness under the flap any tips to help? It's embarrassing to share but idk going to dr in few weeks so will ask also.

I have had this issue as well. My doctor just keeps giving me a pill to make it stop, and then it restarts your cycle. It could be the weight lose and hormone change. I would call your doctor though. There could be a serious issue. Good luck!

Hello, I am new to this forum. I was banded 12/20/06. I have lost about 30 pounds. I have been stuck at the same weight for 2 months. I just started working out(last week). I have not been dealing with stress well lately either-wanting to overeat Any suggestions on how to break this plateau or replace stress eating/habit?

I am really trying not to gain weight but I am so out of the "diet" mode right now. I really have to get on track again until my surgery. I am still pending and still waiting but I will appeal and like you said, there are plenty of conditions. Plus I found out from my insurance that my BMI was a 39.4, please, give me a break!! The insurance said their doctor was still reviewing it. I do not know much about insurance so I didn't really get that but I will call back on Monday, and Tuesday and each day until I'm done.

Aetna Federal *** 3 Month Requirement Questions
Carole Zurick Radney replied to PatchIP's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Aetna, but did not have t do the three month program. I did have to do a 6 month physician weight loss program, a psych eval and a nutritional eval. Each one supplied me with a letter they wrote of our session. I have copies of each one just in case! Your exercise physiologist should have some form they have to fill out to show your session. Just ask them and get a copy. Good luck! I did get approved on the first go around and was extremely surprised because I have three co-workers who have been denied two and three times. I don't think you will have a problem at all since you are doing the three month thing. One word of advice that my doctor gave me......keep up with your approval yourself. Call Aetna.....push your paperwork through. I did that and like I said....got approved first time. -
Has anyone had any experience with approval through Healthnet/First Health? My company is based in CA and I am on the east coast...as such it is my understanding that First Health is the contract provider for healthnet since I am remote from my corporate HQ. I have been trying to get an answer on what the criteria are and I am not sure they even know. I have gotten 3 answers literally from representatives of First health and Healthnet. The least stringent was a phone conversation where the rep said 100 lbs overweight or under 100 with co morbidities. The worst said that I had to be twice my ideal weight and 5 years worth of morbid obesity records!! Has anyone actually gotten approved and know what it in fact does take through healthnet/first health...or even understand the dynamic interaction between those two organizations as it pertains to a patient?? Thanks for any help!

Good luck to you. Get walking soon and you will find the effects of the drugs will go away sooner. I started slightly heavier than you, and was off my diabetic med immediately, off some of my HBP meds within weeks, and can sleep now without my CPAP and not disturb my S/O. One word... Protein. The weight falls off of us guys if we follow a high protein program with low carbs, moderate calories and exercise every day. Good luck to you and congratulations on the band.... See you in 100 pounds... TJ

My insurance is also UHC Choice and they to require in my plan to have a 5 year weight history with a diagnosis from a physician of morbid obesity. I went from being overweight, to being very morbidly obese while pregnant, to being obese after the pregnancy, to overweight again and back to morbid obesity. I called the coordinator and they said they understand there are ups and downs and that is part of the disease. I have not yet been asked to provide medical records but did submit a weight history for the last six years with diet and exercise attempts. I may have... um, added a few pounds here and there but heck, I am goind off my memory  I say, give it a try. What can it hurt? I will let you know what my insurance company decides

I got my band seven years ago. I was the perfect patient for 5 years. I followed all the rules....ate right, drank my Water, exercised. Then somehow, I lost focus and started gaining. At my lightest, I had lost about 120 lbs. Now I have managed to gain about 60 lbs back. I hate it but cant seem to find my motivation again. I have gone back to all my old habits. Always thinking about food, drinking diet soda, no exercise, etc. Is there anybody else out there in this same situation? How did you find a way to get back on track and get the weight back off? I was self-pay so it really bothers me that I spent the money to do it and now I am not committed to it anymore. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.
