    Back Pain?

I have had a similar problem with MID-back pain since November. (not lower). I was banded in May 08. I've had xrays, scans, etc. Went to the chiropractor and got the feel good treatments that helped for a few hours. It never occured to me that weight LOSS could cause the pain. It seemed to me that the weight gain would cause pain but I figured losing weight wouldnt! Little did I know. Finally got referred to a good Physical therapist. He asked me if I had recently lost a lot of weight. I told him I had lost about 70 lbs since last May. He said that makes sense then. He said when you are over weight your ligments, etc are stretched to accommodate the xtra heaviness. With a big weight loss those ligaments are now trying to deal with the "unstretching" and are confused so to speak. He gave me back exercises and rubber band exercises for strengthening and I can now feel a vast improvement. So, I guess what Im saying is, your body can respond in various ways with such a big weight loss. Check it out with your physician.

    What type of scale?

I have the Fitbit Aria which is not only a lovely design, but syncs with many apps and auto recognizes you by weight. Fun fact, the battery had died on it (it told me for a month but I was lazy) so it forgot the last couple months. I got on and had lost so much it didn't remember who I was! Gotta love bariatrics.

    Hello

Yes you will Michelle. You are gonna be eating like gourmet food which is flavorful but in less quantity. You will lose weight depending on how tight is the band. I am in a point where I do not loose or gain, but I reached my goal. When you reach your goal try to fill the band where u dont gain or loose. You will get used to the band after a while. Its great.

Serious Post - Looking for Help

Generally there are two phases to weight loss surgery: the weight loss phase and the maintenance phase. The maintenance phase can sometimes be the hardest nut to crack. It is common for some people to gain a little weight after they bottom out. It is called the 20 pound bounce. But it should level out there. Some individuals gain almost all the weight back. I asked my nutritionist about this. She said a couple things. First, the tool is still there. Stretching the pouch is just a common myth. The tool is still there. Second, it takes the same amount of time that you were out of balance to return to balance. So if you gained weight for a couple years in maintenance, it will take a couple years to get back to the ideal weight. It will not happen overnight. There was a man in my small town who had weight loss surgery. He lost a tremendous amount of weight and was happy for several years. But then the pounds started adding back on and he gained all the weight back. He then realized he had a problem and put all his energy into reducing his weight. He lost it all again. One of the components of the surgery is the psychological component. If you have an overeating disorder and are contemplating suicide, that means that you have a problem in this area. And the psychological component can make it more difficult for you to achieve your goals. It must be addressed and addressed soon. So seek the help of professionals in this speciality and let them help you get back on the straight and narrow.
  5. Thank you all. I can't imagine myself losing weight. I've tried so many times and I do loose some but gain it right back plus more. Can't wait to experience the losing weight and not gaining it back!!!!
  6. I was sleeved on 6/05/2012 and have not lost ANY weight. I lost 40 lbs before I was sleeved and that is it. I have read a lot about Water intake but I haven't actually tried increasing my intake. I don't track my food but I also don't over eat. I listen to my body very well. I don't think I consume more than 800 calories a day if I actually decided to add them up. Does anyone have any advice?

    Personal Trainer?

I just read on the YMCA website that they have trainers at some of the other locations that I am also able to visit with my membership. It was $40 per hour for up to 4 people in a group. I thin we may be able to spread the cost and get a solid beginning with this. When I played football 25 years ago, we started working out for the first time. The coaches made us do a "max" lift on each exercise and then had a formula that set the weight and reps for either bulk or toning. Does anybody know of any Apps or websites that do that for you?

    Personal Trainer?

You need weight training. Cardio is not enough especially when you lose weight as quickly as we do. If you are not familiar with weight machines or free weights, I would suggest a Personal Trainer. You will use the knowledge for the rest of your life. Group training is less expensive than personal training. It could cost 40 per session or cheaper in group. There are deals now because it is not the busy season yet. Look up pt training in your area online. Make sure they have the credentials. If you really want a deal, go to a local gym, get a free day pass and watch some personal trainers in action. Go approach them and talk to them. They might be independent but you have to get in the gym to talk to them. If you go to YMCA, then get a free week pass somewhere. I had personal training for a couple of months and thats all I needed to get the weight training education. Now I do it on my own. I think its a great idea for you to do it in a group!!!

    Personal Trainer?

I work out a a YMCA. I am currently doing cardio 7 days a week. I do 65 minutes on an eliptical trainer, I usually end up with about a 900 calorie burn. I would like to incorporate a weight regiment into my workout....But where to start. The YMCA people seem to have no clue, I haven't even been able to get the fitness assessment out of them that they promised when I joined up. How did you guys and gals find a PT that you can work with? How much is the going rate for such a service? How often does your PT actually work with you? I also have a non sleeve friend that is looking to shape up, is it out of the ordinary to find a trainer for both of us (and maybe even our teenage boys) all in the same workout / trainer ?

    Help!!

I think your doctor is the problem !!!!! You are doing great. My doctor said the average weight loss the first year is about 55lbs. My doctor is very proud of my 58 lbs. in 9 months. Remember, We are only 9 months into this. I'm in this for the long run and I know that I'm real happy with my weight loss and exercise program and most important, I feel great. I have another 40 lbs to get to my goal and I realize more hard work is needed. The band really forces me to not over eat... You should be very proud of your success and your life changes. Keep up the good work and keep exercising to reduce stress.
  11. First of all ,thank you to those who supported me the day before I went in for my first fill. I was so upset because I hadn't lost any weight for most of December. The good news is ,I went in to have my fill (they put in 2ml) and I had not gained any way,I was so relieved. I managed to maintain my weight in the month of December. The fill was relatively painless and I can certainly tell a difference and if I don't slow down ,OWWY lol. I'm back to losing weight and I feel so much better. Thank you for your support. I'm kind of going nuts lately because I'm so use to going outside and walking on my lunch break but haven't been able to due to this brutal cold air we've had that's moved in so I'm going to start going to the gym (even though I'm not really a gym person lol). ((((hugs)))):yikes:

    Night before surgery

From the album: On my journey

    Weight 297.2
  14. I was never really told to measure my food and generally have always eaten a bit more than a cup per meal. I just take a small bread plate and put small portion of meat, veggie and starch and eat in that order until I am satisfied. In the beginning it took a little trial and error but eventually I got to the point where I knew how much I can handle today. In my program, we gauged portions by the scale and being satisfied. You make sure you get all your nutrition, serve it up in small portions, chew well/eat slowly and stop when you are full. If the scale does not show results then you get an adjustment. 3 oz of meat is the size of a deck of cards or a bar of soap. I may have eaten that much meat some days during my weight loss but usually not quite. I probably eat about 1/2 cup of fruit and/or veggies and 1/4-1/2 cup of starch.

    Day of My First Fill

Finally! Today I have my first fill. I have just been so frustrated with this whole appointment scheduling. I was suppose to have my appointment for 12/24, but I was not going to be eating only soup or whatever would be excluded from my diet, so I had to reschedule the appointment. It been two months, and the weight has been going back and forth. I guess I have to be grateful for being able to get into jeans that I haven't been able to fit for a long time. So for that I am grateful. I also took a two-week break from exercising, so I really can't complain for the reason that I haven't lost the weight. Today is Wednesday, and I have already worked out two days, and I finally included weighs into my program. I am feeling really good about that. I just want to be sucessful in my weight loss. I don't want to feel like I am missing out, by not eating foods that I don't need. I don't want to seek foods for comfort, I want to be better than that. I know that God will bring me through that. I am kinda nervous about this fill process, but I am ready for the leaves to be cleared on my path to weight loss and better health. Yayyyy

  17. After having my bypass surgery postponed twice, it's finally going to happen on ELECTION DAY Nov. 8, 2016! The USA may be getting a new president that day, but I am getting a new lease on life and I am so thankful. Today is day 9 on my liver shrink diet and so far, I've done well. I am pleased with the weight that I've lost so far these past few days. It's been a long road since June with numerous blood tests, x-rays, ct scans, pet scans, and biopsies, to get me well today and I thank the Lord for this. I intend to do all that I can to be as successful as I can possibly be. I just wanted to share my happy news with you, and thank you all for your encouragement to not give up! ~Debi~
  18. I am almost 5 weeks out and anything I eat causes discomfort. The only thing that goes down ok and stays down ok is crackers. I am not sure if I am eating too much, too fast or what. My sleeve seems to be very very tiny- it would honestly suit me just fine to not eat at all, but I keep trying because I know that is how I'm going to lose the weight. Any advice??

West Australians and lap - band

I am very embarrassed to say that I weighed myself on my birthday (20th January) and I was 132kg. Today I am 89kg so I feel much better. I look everything and compare it to how much weight I have lost eg: 20 2kg bags of sugar. I am amazed at how I could have dragged that much around. I still have no idea what size I am and go straight for the larger size it hasnt really sunk in yet. I have never been happier though. My sister asked me what was the down side of banding and I really couldnt come up with any really good reasons.

    Would love to help...

If you don't have too many replies yet on your offer to be a bandster buddy, I would love your help. I was banded on April 3rd and have lost 62lbs thus far. I sure would love to have some insight on A) how to keep losing (I've had a bad plateau recently) How do you keep the weight off and "normailze" when your goal is reached?

    Weight gain and freaking out.

Marieze, yes basically to what you said. Even though one has a small pouch you can still make bad food choices, eat to often or past the point of full. I have never dumped and can eat all the same foods I ate before surgery. People have surgery for different reasons but if one has a food addiction and doesn't address that I could see how some can gain weight back no matter what surgery.

    Fill Amount Question

I've only had one fill so far (surgery May 18th) but he did 3 cc's and I have an 11 cc band. My surgeon said he goes fill by fill, no set amount schedule, and judges it by weight loss. He said he typically will do 3 for the first one and asked if I agreed (kind of surprised me - like I know the difference right now! It was a nice gesture though.)
  24. I'm on the five-year plan. I've got the bad polyps. This is my year to get it done. I've never had trouble with the prep in the past, but now I have a little pouch. The prep includes drinking a massive amount Water along with a whole bottle of miralax and magnesium citrate. I asked the nurse (surgeon's team) and they said to ask the gastroenterology folks when I made my appointment. When I made my appointment, I asked about prep alternatives and they weren't sure. They asked me to check with my primary physician. Surely, I can't be the first gastric bypass person to get a colonoscopy at this rather large clinic in Minneapolis. Has anyone here had a colonoscopy done after they've had weight-loss surgery? Did you have an alternative to the prep or the procedure? I thought I would explore my options before writing my primary care physician an email. I will also google it, but do want to hear first hand from people about their experience (pros and cons). This way I could tell her which alternative I prefer. Thank you so much for your responses!
