  1. Are you sure that you're not just overeating to the point that you pb? If you are sure that's not the reason, then I agree with Harley Nana.... Go and get your band checked out... You might just have tightened up over time If all is well consider taking the following actions 1. have a few days on fluids, throwing up a lot can irritate you stoma and lead to further throwing up... it's a viscous circle. 2. keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, noting when you are throwing up and exactly what you are eating... It's not revolutionary, I know, but it may show you what you are/aren't doing that's hindering further fat reduction. Follow the bandster rules: SaggiJ, You do know what the bandster rules are regarding meals, don't you??? they are as follows... 1. No drink 30minutes before and 45 minutes after food 2. Eat good quality, solid food that will stay in your pouch and give you satisfaction. 3. Eat you Protein FIRST, then your vegetables.... then if you have room you can eat the carbohydrates!!!! If you eat the mash first, then you are asking for trouble in the weight loss stakes..... You also know that it's small bites.... no bigger than 10p piece then chew chew, chew!!! taking larger bites and swallowing them before they're well and truly mushed in your mouth, is asking for trouble, especially when you're tight! Success depends on following these rules and working with your band, not against it! Come on girl, you know what you should be doing!!! Taken from a previous post! Hope that this helps a bit! Hx

    Dr. Nease anyone?

Thanks. I am sure that I will have many questions in the weeks ahead. Everyone this board seems very supportive. [/url]

    Dr. Nease anyone?

Dr. Nease was my Dr. I was banded on 5/12/08. I liked him and his staff very much from the get-go. I felt he was very personable and he treated me with respect - and that means so much! My one week follow-up (post-op) was not great, but there was some confusion about my appointment date...not the fault of Dr. Nease. On the day of surgery, I actually saw him very little - just a few moments, but just knowing he was going to be there when I was under made me feel calmer...I just felt secure in his ability. I went home the same day...I actually stayed in a hotel overnight because I didn't feel up to a four hour drive. It all happened very fast, but it was ok, I have done ok, and the surgery went fine. Best of luck, and if I can help or answer any questions about the experience I had at Cabell Huntington, just let me know. This is all new to me, but I will offer any support I can.

    And now I wait.....

Today I saw the psychiatrist and also had my final appointment with my doctor. Got all of the paperwork together and added the medical clearance letter. Afterwards, I dropped the paperwork off at the surgeon's office. Now all there is to do is wait. The surgeon's office will call me in a couple of days to schedule the consultation. I sure wish I could have made that appointment today. I am more than ready to do this! Hopefully, I will be able to get in for the consultation by next week. Crossing fingers (cuz I can't cross my darn legs)!

    advice please

If you were banded only 6 weeks ago, you're still healing. If I were you, I would wait another 2 weeks before you continue the exercise regimen you mentioned. Walking is fine, but anything other than that may disrupt the healing process.
  6. I had my second fill three days ago and I tried some regular food tonight. It was awesome! I hadn't had any restriction yet, but I ate about 3/4 c. food tonight and I was very satisfied, and it lasted for several hours. I even had chocolate in the cabinet that I could resist because my stomach said it was already happy. I did not have any problem with food getting stuck, but I was very, very cautious and chewed about a million times per bite. I just hope the restriction sticks, but even if it doesn't, I finally feel like the band is pulling its own weight. I feel a lot more inspired now to follow the diet better and amp up my exercise routine to start seeing some results.

    I can't do this!

I feel the same way as you. next week cant come fast enough.
  8. I have been able to do some scrammbled eggs with a little cheese but I have not tried anything close to the raw side of veggies. I am about 8 weeks out and I have had peas, carrots, and green beans but they have all been very well cooked and more of a mushy consistency. I never really got along with green peppers before surgery so I am sure that they will be one of the last things that I try and add to my diet. I too would try the process of elimination and see which one causes the problems. You can always try the one that you are having problems with in another few weeks and you might be able to tolerate it at that time. Best of luck.

    4 weeks post op

That point is normal for a stall.
  11. Everything had been progressing well. Up to this point, I only had some hydration issues. I've been walking vigorously lately as well. Friday i had to set up a tent and move around a bunch in 90 degree heat. Hydrated before and during. That night started feeling nausea. Laid down and continued to drink water. Next morning felt better and decided to eat an omelet with shredded cheese. Pain started in lower abdomen. At about mid afternoon, i couldn't stand the cramping and pain. Tried going to bathroom. Went ok, then diarrhea. Then the dry heaving started. Nothing coming up. That lasted for about an hour and a half. Laid down again in pain, contemplated going to er from pain. Fell asleep woke up fine, a little nausea, but much better. I don't think i ate incorrectly? Admittedly, i didn't eat much leading up to all this. Just no desire. Any ideas what happened or has anyone else experienced this?

How can I be a failure already?

I think everyone has given you great advice. I too get freaked out when I see I have lost less weight then I expected, but I am trying to teach myself otherwise. You need to think of it this way, so what if you "only lost two pounds", 2 lbs a week over the course of a year is 104 lbs. that's a lot of weight! Now obviously you are not going to lose at the same rate every week, but some weeks will be more then 2lbs, some will be less, but they will average out in the end.
  14. Could be gallbaldder. If it continues you need to call your doctors, regardless what it is. I had mine out 7 weeks after my sleeve surgery.
  15. I had my surgery on Nov. 21 and I am so glad I did this! The first three days are uncomfortable but not awful and def so worth it! Def was in pain when I woke up until the nurse finally gave me Dilaudid rather than morphine. I don't know what the difference is as they are in the same class. But it made a big difference. I was able to get up several times and walk during that first night in the hospital.I dry heaved several times while in the hospital basically any time I tried to take in any fluids.. but for very short periods, it resolved itself quickly. I never throught I would get through the contrast swallow test which I needed to pass in order to get sprung from the hospital, but the yucky solution went right down! I barfed it up afterward. But again, quickly and it was over. Honestly, the hospital stay could have been so much worse. No prolonged nausea or significant pain to speak of. I was only nauseated when I tried to take in fluids orally. When I was in the hospital, I really didn't want visitors. I just wanted to be alone to sleep and just deal. The challenge was managing both nausea and pain when I got home which I really was able to do with Zorthran (for nausea) and Tramadol (for pain). It was very difficult to get down fluids and I think the most stressful part of this period was trying to get fluids down to avoid dehydration. Because you can take in very little. And I felt like I needed to get up and walk around everytime I took a few sips, to get things moving. You would have to be up all day and all night and not sleep to get down the 64 ounces they say is required. I probably got down 36 ounces (if that) for the first 24 hours home. But I was peeing a lot so I guess the hospital sent me home pretty well hydrated. I had the surgery on Friday. On Monday I was able to start to take in watered down juice and nibble on some sugar free Jello. On Tuesday, I was able to add Propel Water and chicken broth. Hard to keep your energy level up with so few calories. I spend all of my time in bed. Until Monday, I was just sleeping. Didn't even watch TV. But on Monday I started watching TV and got back on my laptop but I still slept most of the day. On Tuesday, I stayed awake most of the day. I see my doctor today for my one week -- because of the holiday it is early. The two issues of concern I will raise with him are: no BM since before the surgery -- however my gas pains are not bad; I have a rash on my belly which I believe is due to the polyester binder they place on you post surgery; and please please please can I move on to thickened liquids? I am getting hunger pains!

Where Did You Have Your Egd?

I had mine at an out-patient surgical center. Good news is...despite testing positive for H. Pylori and taking two weeks of meds, I am officially cleared by GI for my 11/20 sleeve date! Ugh. So stressed about that.

    Step 1 - Done

So my insurance will pay 100%, no copay, no deductible (in general, though I myself am not yet approved), and I've got my consultation scheduled. Yay! This is the phone message I just got (my phone company sends transcribed voicemails to my email, which I LOVE): "Hi! This is ***** calling from Dr. ****'s Office. Just want to let you know that we have verified your benefits with your insurance company for the Lap-Band. If you could just give me a callback at your convenience. I can be reached at *******. Thank you." And I go in to see the surgeon on May 20. They say they can usually get you scheduled within 4-6 weeks of your consultation, so I should be banded by early July! YAY!!!!!!!!!
  19. Good luck with ur journey. I was sleeved 11-12-13. I had to do a 6mo thing with my pcp before ins would cover surgery. During that time I lost 15lbs. Morning of surgery I weighed 260. I was very nervous the day before surgery but surprisingly I wasn't too nervous that morning. I had a rough 1st night in recovery threw up/dry heaved all night so I had to stay an extra night but the next day was better. It took me a couple of weeks to feel 100% human again but overall had a good experience. Only issue i have had is i got dehydrated and needed fluids at 3 1/2 weeks out bc i couldnt get enough fluid in. Still having a hard time with that but getting better. At 5 weeks out I got on scale and for 1st time in 15 years the scale was under 250 (I almost cried). I'm at 227 now and so excited to see whats in store for me . I wish u well for ur journey. Good luck!
  20. I don't like the way I feel after I eat. I'm 10 weeks pot op. Does it get better over time?
  21. Hi, I had my surgery 2 months ago and until I had my 2nd fill last week, I was doing great. I've been reading some of the posts from others, and it's glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing some of these things. I could feel the restriction right after my surgery. My surgeon told me he had put 3 cc in my band. I got to where I could eat almost anything without any problems, just not as much as before. At my first fill, he added another 1cc. I cut back to soft and liquids for a few days after my fill and then I could eat almost anything again (except bread), just less than before. I had my 2nd fill about a week ago, and have noticed a definite restriction. I again went back to soft foods and liquids for several days but haven't noticed any improvement. I tried to eat some eggs, but they got stuck which was a horrible feeling and persisted for a while. I wasn't able to get it to come up. So, I had to suffer through it. I've been very careful since, but everything seems to cause what I can only describe as a spasm like feeling as soon as it hits the bottom of my esophagus. I've tried increasing my fluids, but it doesn't matter what I eat or drink, I get the same feeling. Which is quite uncomfortable. So, I've been drinking/eating hot liquids, thick Soups plus my Protein shakes. I plan to go my surgeon on Monday and have him remove at least part of that last fill. I'm glad I found this site. I have only told a couple of people about my surgery, as this was a very private decision for me. Any other suggestions I should try until I can see my surgeon?
  22. I did the same thing. I am 11 days post and after my one week I hadn't lost a darn thing. I was sorta upset. Then the next couple of days following....wow I was down 2.5 lbs then 2 days later another 3 lbs down. It will start to come off. Just take a deep breath and it el happen. Like it just falls off. Good luck!
  23. 13 pounds down.. pretty excited! Must say was a good week. Pain was tolerable . Another week of liquids then can move on to yogurt . Hope everyone is having a good week.

    NSV - Fun

These are the fun NSVs! One day at about 6 months post op I noticed I was sitting on the bed with my legs crossed Indian style! I hadn't done that since the birth of my youngest son! He is 34 years old! Last week I had another one! Both hubby and I are morbidly obese. Now I am normal, he is still morbidly obese at 285lbs and 5'10". I used to be heavier than him at 310, same height. Anyway we went out to dinner with my son and granddaughter. They are both normal size. We got a booth, I slid in and told hubby to sit next to me. Normally we sir across from one another. I am so small that he fit in with me and we still had a lot of room! We used to have one kid next to each of us! He was in awe when he saw how much room between me and him and me and the table. He looked at me and said you are so tiny I can hardly believe it! I just looked at him and grinned like a Cheshire Cat. He got the good boy award for the day, making me feel so good!
  25. Saw the doc today for my slightly late 6 week appointment. She was happy with my weight loss. I have lost 22% of my excess weight. She told me she wants me to be up to 30% at 3 months. Seems like a lot of weight to lose in four short weeks.
