4 yrs post VSG to RNY

@GreenTealael Thanks for your post. How was your weight loss after the revision? Many have said they didn't feel any restriction like with the sleeve which was my concern. I am currently on my pre-op diet for this week, my revision surgery is scheduled for Monday Aug. 28th.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Susannah I am so sorry to hear of your complication. I can imagine your frustration of having to have revision surgery not to mention having to heal all over again. Just remember this time next year when you're slim and gorgeous all that you're going through now will be well worth it and a distant memory. I really hope everything goes well for you. Keep us informed of how things go.

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I am a band revision also going to Kaiser but I'm in Portland. I have been on liquids for 12 days. My surgery to get my sleeve is Monday the 13th. Good luck to you.

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Hi everyone, I'm getting my lap band taken out, due to a partial slip for the 3rd time, and getting a revision to the sleeve. Scheduled for net Thursday, and am getting nervous! My original lap band was done by another surgeon, from another insurance. This time I'm going through Kaiser in CO for the revision. This seems so different from the band preparation. I guess I'll be on full liquids for 2 - 4 weeks after surgery. I'm definitely nervous. Anyone else?

    Revision to SADI

You say you had the surgery just a few weeks ago and already have the same food intake capability that you had before... are you already cleared to eat everything you're eating? Just because you CAN eat a lot doesn't mean you SHOULD. I know that one of the reasons I didn't lose weight while on weight loss medications in the past is that I've eaten when not hungry. I've confused head hunger and GERD for actual hunger. Also, just boredom can cause me to eat, as well as when I'm eating something very tasty, and I just want to keep enjoying it. I'm not sure if with the sleeve to SADI revision you would have to do a liquid, then puree then soft food diet right after surgery, but it seems likely...

    Re-sleeve

I had a sleeve in 2011. I had an Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty revision two weeks ago because I gained 45 of the 100 I lost back and was struggling with my sleeve. It was stretched a bit and I was eating too many carbs. I had to do something. So far I am on full liquids and its going well. Its like a resleeve but they do it from the inside with sutures so Its not as invasive. Easy recovery. I had some gas pains but they were not that bad. By day three I was doing really good. I had it on a Thursday and went back to work Monday.

    Low folate, iron deficient anemia…

I got my Lap Band almost ten years ago, and I can't remember if they did pre op blood work and if they did what the results were. I'm almost three months post op revision Bypass now and this surgeon did do pre op blood work, but it was all normal. I've been on continual vitamins/calcium for nearly ten years, so that's probably part of the reason my labs were normal. It's not uncommon for obese people to be malnourished/have low vitamins & mineral levels. If you think about it, for most obese people, the choices that they make/made is part of the reason that gets a lot of us to wls. Fast food, pizza, burgers for the most part has very little nourishment as far as vitamins/minerals go (besides carbs, lol). I'm sure your team will get your levels up to normal before you have your surgery. As a matter of fact, after my pre op labs came back, even tho they were normal, I was started on chewable bariatric vitamins. It was standard protocol for pre op patients. So don't fret, you'll be fine! Best wishes!

4 yrs post VSG to RNY

I take a multivitamin and calcium regularly (not everyday if I am being honest because sometimes I forget) I add everything else periodically because I can usually feel when I need something like more b12/iron/Vit D. They are either small tablets or some version of a chewable. My plan didn’t require that I stay away from bread products and I despise soft breads so I didn’t have an issue tolerating the types I liked. Since your plan does ask for you to avoid it, I would. I still don’t chew gum, eat popcorn or drink carbonated beverages because those were in my original instructions 6 yrs ago. Abstaining for now won’t hurt you. Revisit the conversation with your surgeon at your 6 month follow up. Congrats on the revision

4 yrs post VSG to RNY

I had a rough recovery from VSG (a solid 2 weeks of strong pain) and the revision was much easier (maybe 3 days of mild pain) Honestly the only thing I remember being harder was bathroom issues (constipation/frequent urination) immediately post op.

Dealing with bansters when you change.

A lot of people just assume that because there are band problems, that we did not follow the rules. They claim they are doing better because they follow the rules. I followed the rules. I did lost a lot of weight with the band. I would have gained all of it back too, when I started having band problems. I gained back 15 lbs in a very short time, waiting for my revision. I did that following all the rules!

Bet you're sorry you voted for Obama now

Way to miss the post of my post entirely. For the first time in my LIFE there is a president in office that I am proud of. I can go to a foreign country now and not pretend to be Canadian. Obama has completely put a standstill on the rapidly falling unemployment rate and has purposed and put into motion a complete revision of the healthcare system (death panels my ass, anyone who calls it a death panel didn't read the actual purposal). I am proud to be American. For me to be able to say that is incredible, because I thought my country would never make me proud until Obama.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Corrected link: theworldaccordingtoeggface There are some great recipes. I'm definitely going to try the protein ice cream. LisaA - I like all of your dessert suggestions! I consider recipes to be suggestions and idea starters. I found a few recipes ideas on another site with desserts for diabetics that I will modify using some ideas from TheWorldAccordingToEggFace. I'm considering a thin cheesecake base (vanilla or lemon) with a fresh fruit topping and a layered pumpkin cheesecake. I have estimated calories at 100-150 and 10-12g of protein per slice based on my revisions. TheWorldAccordingToEggFace had a great idea to use Torani sugar-free syrup instead of butter or margarine when making the crumb crust.

    The Bandster A Dying Breed?

Agree with that. I went with 2 people who had Bands and revised one to Bypass one to Sleeve in the last month. But the Band has worked good for me, them not so much. cheri
  15. You said at first that you were leaning towards the Sleeve, but your Dr recommended the DS. Then you said if it didn't work out you could go back for another WLS. I would strongly think hard on that. It isn't easy to get revisions approved and sometimes they can even do the surgery. Now I will try to explain why I feel this way. It might be a long but here goes....My hubby had the Lap Band for 13 years, they punctured the port and he had to go back to surgery. Then like I said 13 years out it malfunctioned. BTW he did lose 100#'s but he is a heavy big guy. Sept of 2013 he went in for a revision from the band to a RNY. When they got in there the band had eroded into his liver. There was too much bleeding and scar tissue so they backed out. No WLS for him. They removed the band and his gallbladder then told us in 3 months they would redo his WLS. NOT!! He developed abscesses and was deathly sick for 9 months 3 of them he doesn't remember. After he healed up we went back to the Surgeon but was turned away and called a problem child!! But he did get a reference to OREGON HEALTH AND UNIVERSITY in Portland, Oregon. Again, he was told to lose 25#'s and get his A1C down to a 7 or 8. (3 month blood sugars) he couldn't do both because if his A1C was down his weight was up, the other way around weight down BS up. So we went into debt and went to Juarez, Mexico. When they got in there his whole right side was solid scar tissue then again no RNY, they did the Sleeve. Now he has lost 60#'s but you know how we all say this Surgery saved our lives? Well, he has Cancer on his Kidney and was told that he couldn't have anything done until he loses 150#'s. He now still has 90#'s to go. The Sleeve just doesn't seem to have enough restriction. I know others have great results but it isn't happening for him. All of this and he might still lose his life!!! This is why I say it doesn't always happen to have more WLS. I would really think hard on what surgery I had and go for the one that will give you all of the results that you want and need!! Just my thoughts. Good Luck

    Regret and Depression

I ended up with a hiatal hernia (I’m prone to hernias) a few months after my surgery that was most of my sleeve. It caused gerd so bad that I had esophagitis and hiccups. Hiccups every waking moment for several months. I was on 20mg of protonix twice a day along with 40mg of Pepcid and sometimes 10 tums a day until I had a revision to RNY. The nausea and feeling sick all the time was much better after revision and I wasn’t as anxious anymore about the heartburn. I’m 14 months out from revision now and if I wanted to chug a water or something else I totally could. I eat what I feel like having in that moment and I feel so much more “normal” now. Maybe see if your doctor (or a different one) will send you for imaging to see if there’s something that’s causing the heartburn that can be fixed. Hoping things get better for you soon.

    March Sleevers

Yes!!! I am struggling a great deal. I am a complete failure. I have gained back 40 of the 78 lbs. I lost. What makes the matter even worse is that this is my second weight loss surgery. I had Lapband in 2007. I was a failure with that. I had revision to the sleeve surgery in March 2015. The weight loss was slow and I never reached my goal with either. I need to see someone who specializes in food addiction, but am having a hard time finding someone. To be honest with you, I do not know what to do right now and am highly depressed.

First off, I'm so glad your hubby is completely on board- he's the person that's in the house with you and will be the person you really need on your side. As far as the other people in your life, they can have a seat. Your adult choices-especially ones you're making to benefit your health- are none of their business, especially your boss! How does she know what's right for you? Has she been a friend your whole life and is she there through all your weight struggles? On top of that- this sleeve is NOT easy. It's easier to do weight watchers and have a day where you "cheat" then get back on the wagon. But what would happen-your weight would continue to fluctuate up and down and you would be in the same position or worse this time next year. Right now if I didn't have my sleeve and I was doing some other program, I GUARANTEE I would've cheated and had something I wasn't supposed to. Having the sleeve and knowing something may possibly make me sick is deterrent enough for me- that was part of my personal reasons for getting the sleeve in addition to weight loss and having something in place to help me keep off/ control weight gain long term. The people who are saying these things to you should do some research on the sleeve before they chime in on what you should/shouldn't be doing. I would be willing to bet if you countered their opinion by asking them what they know about the surgery they couldn't even tell you what it is. And for sure the weight doesn't just fall off- you still have to work out to see good progress. Your supposed to exercise 60-90 minutes daily with this in addition to trying to drink all your water, all your protein, and take all the vitamins. Some people get the surgery and lose a small amount of weight and then nothing else (now that we're all together, I came upon a sleeve to bypass revision thread). Easy- I definitely don't think so.

When researching, the idea of the plication was appealing. I ultimately chose the sleeve for the following reasons: 1. The sleeve is permanent. I didn't want something temporary that could cause issues in the future. Also didn't want to have to have to self pay for a revision surgery if needed it in the future. After all my research on weight loss surgery, I didn't want to have multiple surgeries in case the temporary first surgery failed. 2. By removing the part of the stomach where the hunger hormone is produced, I was hoping to reduce my crazy appetite. 3. The plication is a newer procedure and I wanted to have something with a little more of a track record. Plus, this isn't a common surgery in the US. So if there was a complication that needed urgent attention, I wasn't sure help would be readily available. Good luck in your research. Being an educated patient will pay you big dividends!

I didn't have to pack anything like. I had a revision and had to be there for 5 days. In those 5 days I had to go to the clinic each morning and they cleaned and took care of all bandages.

As you know VegasOne I will be there the 28th, surgery the 29th and I will stay two nights at hospital due to me having lap band to sleeve revision. So I will be at hotel day of your surgery. We are scheduled to leave on the 3rd. How are you doing so far on the preop diet? My husband is struggling but hanging right in there. He's lost 17 in a week on the phase1 Atkins diet. Next week starts his 2 weeks of liquids. Eeek!! That's going to be rocky two weeks in our household!!
  23. Yes Brenda, I am having my surgery at the OCC on the 29th as well. I am a revision also, My band was removed several years ago though. I was originally scheduled for an October date but was going crazy so I got it changed. I have been on a huge roller-coaster of emotions and I just want to get it done already. I'm so excited yet scared too. That's to be expected I guess. My husband is not supportive of the surgery but so far he is planning on coming. We live in WV and will be flying in to San Diego on the 28th. What about you guys? are you coming in the 28th? Great to meet someone with my date. It'll be nice to have someone on the exact same timeline to chat with and compare notes so to speak.

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

so I went into the hospital yesterday morning for my revision.. band to sleeve. I was so excited so when I woke up from anesthesia the surgeon told me he could not do the sleeve because my stomach was so damaged from the band. so I have been banned rebuild and he says we could try in 6 months and possibly be healed he said there was no way he was going to touch my stomach with staples. I would have leaked for sure. I'm home and disappointed but I'm glad that he took the band out of me.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Good morning. I had a gastric bypass revision on April 3. I am doing well except for being sooo tired. I move onto soft foods today. Pretty excited about that! I spent two nights in hospital because the hole in my original pouch (done in 2004) was 3”, much larger than expected. Also had a lot of scar tissue. The nausea after surgery was horrendous the first day but not too bad after. Pain has been minimal. I I hope everyone here has a surgeon as amazing as mine. And a wonderful post-op experience in the hospital. Hang in there! It gets better every day.
