    Lapband removal

Hey marly18, I'm having my gastric bypass March 26 and will also be saying goodbye to my band of 16 years. My procedure will all be done at the same time. May I ask why you are having to remove your band and then doing the RNY at a later date? When I first entertained the idea of having my revision I kind of figured it might be done at two separate times, but after my consultation with my surgeon he said he would do it all at one time. He is also repairing a hernia too.

    Stricture AND Ulcer

I've had surgery twice to correct strictures/hernia and have had issues with ulcers. I'm now on my third bout of extreme pain with another possibility of surgery in the near future. These are NOT rare complications, the doctors only say they are. In 2012 I almost died because every doctor I saw said I was just wanting drugs because scar tissue (strictures) don't always show up on any imaging tests. The surgeon I saw humored me with same day surgery because he happened to have a cancellation and afterward he told me I wouldn't have lived the 2 weeks to his next open appt. At my last surgery the dr told me that I would most likely need the same surgery every couple years because every time you have abdominal surgery your chances for strictures increase exponentially. I'm hoping for revision surgery for candy cane syndrome which is supposed to fix the issues I have once and for all...hopefully it's not just wishful thinking. I have the worst luck with doctors taking me seriously.

    Lap Band Conversion to Sleeve

I am on this journey from lap band to sleeve/sips surgery and I am still going through all of the hoops to get approved by insurance...just want to have the revision already!! I am ready to get this band out and start losing weight!
  5. Hi there MomInCanada! Welcome to the ESG forum or I should say family because we consider each other family in many ways in terms of the support, guidance you'll receive from the best people. To answer your first concern, I honestly believe that the surgeon who does the ESG procedure does matter a lot. I had mine in NJ and one of the reasons I choose my surgeon (Dr. Sadek) was because of his experience with this procedure and the number of ESGs he had performed. I can tell you that Dr. Marvin has had excellent reviews from many on this forum as well as the Facebook group that I am on which you should check out. Once you're in the Facebook group (Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty USA) type in his name in the search and many results will come up. I know that he has performed many and was trained by Dr. Sharairah herself who pioneered this procedure. I read a study about how a surgeon who performs ESG will get better and perfect his technique the more he has performed. My surgeon explained to me that his first few ESGs were done a certain way in terms of stitching and when he figured out a better way to improve the stitching pattern he got better results. He also told me that of the approximately 50-60 ESGs he's performed he has only had to revise two which were two of his first ESGs. Your second concern, privacy about the procedure, I have only told my husband as well. I have 4 boys who range from 19-11 years old and they did not even bat an eye or suspect I had any procedure done at all. This is why: Your recovery is very minimal, of course each person is different but a smooth and painless recovery is usually the norm. Just make sure to take all the meds the doctor prescribes for you and by the third day post op you will feel almost 100%. I often tell this story on this forum and to the facebook group--- After I came home from the procedure, same day of course, (went in at 7AM and was done and awake and ready to go home by 11AM) I did a load of laundry!!! If you are concerned about others wondering why you are eating so little, I'll tell you this--- most people don't pay attention as much as you think. Those that may venture to ask you, the answer should be simple-- I'm watching what I eat because I'm trying to get healthy. If you were anything like I was pre op then most of your close friends and family would be used to you on another diet. Good luck and please keep us posted!!!!

    Panicking

I had a revision from Gastric Sleeve to RNY on 1/30/18 so I’m roughly a month out. I’m having trouble tolerating solid food some days I’m fine other days I’m not. I’m terrified I may have stretched my pouch already because of some poor choices. I let stress and depression get to me and I’ve been drinking juice and have had some potato chips. I know bad decision so close out. Have I already screwed my self? Can I still make this work for me? Any tips and advice for getting my life and diet back on track would be appreciated.

I do not understand 'no restriction left"

My restriction is still there and working after 4 years. Statistics I've seen say revisions are rare. I have compassion for anyone who has had a large weight gain or complications. The sleeve stretching scenario leaves me baffled. Are the mental health evaluations identifying eating disorders pre surgery? Are surgeons offices/medical community intervening if someone is binge eating past capacity repeatedly?(stretching their sleeve) Do people confuse stretching their sleeve with grazing? It's not that the sleeve has stretched. Grazing is not eating past the feeling of restriction. Grazing: Consuming poor food choices and/or excessive calories in many meals over, over and over throughout the day. The amount of calories would be as if you never had surgery. The weight would come right back. any thoughts?

    Young RNY Patients

I just had rny last week and I just turned 27, so happy with my decision. My doc really recommended sleeve and said if years later I hadn’t lost enough I could revision to bypass. Im hoping for one and done! So I went with bypass due to heart burn issues. Hw-378 Sw- 363 (2/27/18)

    Sleeve sizes

Just to calm your fears... IF you are talking about Bellabloom her situation was very unique. She had a revision from RNY to sleeve which is quite rare and she had a history of anorexia pre WLS And developed it again after requiring hospitalization. A tragic story but also a very rare case. I wouldn’t base any decisions on fears related to her situation. Find a surgeon you trust and discuss your concerns. There are some great ones out there

    Revision

Any news on your revision nikki2524? Are you feeling any better? That's strange, that nurse telling you since your body wouldn't use the calories to go ahead and eat anything. Doesn't sound like any Bariatric nurse I've ever met. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve sizes

I am sorry you got a lot of negative feedback. I was concerned about my sleeve size as well because my doctor had concerns about me getting to thin. I was a revision due to lapband complications. So I had to do two surgeries six months apart to fix everything. I actually do think he left my stomach slightly bigger . At Surgery day I was 180 wearing size sixes and some eights. Two and a half weeks out I am back to fours . So yeah the stomach size was a concern for me. 18. If I were wanting to do this more economically I would consider Bariatric Pal MX and. Dr Illian. Although there are doctors in Texas, Louisiana, Michigan and Florida that are more budget-friendly, Alex Brecher will be having his revision to Mini Bypass at Bariatric PalMx, and it isn't because of economic issues because he could afford any US or Canadian surgeon. He knows the staff there and trusts them with his own health. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    Disappearing lapbanders

G'day, I'm a newbie to the forum. Had my lapband a while ago but am 'rebooting' it before I consider revision surgery. Had some fill put in and am seriously sticking to the rules and have lost 7.5 kgs in a month so am pretty happy with that. Nice to meet you all (I'm Aussie but live in Ireland)
  20. Day 10 Post Op - 219lbs (-3.4lbs Post Surgery) I slept really well again. And woke up full of energy, calm, and very happy! The pure act of chewing and eating savory food yesterday really calmed me down and made me content with my post op experience. I explained to my surgeon that although I would be content with my current liquid diet and not complain, I'd probably gladly sacrifice small rodents for the opportunity to advance to savory Stage 3-Soft Foods. She laughed and said, how do you feel about eggs? I told her that I'm pro-egg and then smiled and admitted that I'd been dreaming of a perfect 6.5 minute soft boiled egg with a spoonful of avocado floating on it! She said, go for it! Well, it felt like I won the weight loss surgery lottery!!! So this morning I fully intend to have my soft boiled egg and tablespoon of avocado! Score baby!!! I'll give a full report! Lunch will be my leftover cheesy soft scrambled egg from last night, and I think dinner will either be another soft boiled egg, or perhaps my dijon egg salad on a low carb cracker. I use low carb tortillas and cut one into squares the size of wheat thins. Then you place the squares on a paper towel and nuke at 20 second intervals, turning them onto the flip side every now and then until perfectly crispy and just beginning to brown. That's about 1 minute total in my microwave. Then store in an airtight container and use 1 or 2 for cracker subs. They're perfect for egg or chicken salad, perfectly low carb, and not too fiberous--melting in your mouth quite as easily as saltines, only without all the carbiness! I love an egg fast and even wrote a crap ton about Egg Fast Diets on my old blog. So many great egg recipes, but some of them are a bit advanced for my early Stage 3 Bariatric Diet, so I will just be content with playing by my doc's rules! Maybe I will revisit them and revise them for the low fat bariatric diet approach one day. I hope I will continue to lose and not begin the 3 week stall early on account of beginning the real food phases early! But if I do, I'm emotionally prepared and have my big girl panties standing by!

    Gastric Bypass after Lap Band

I had my lapband done in 2010 and revised on 8/2017 and GBP on 1/10/2018. One surgery doesn't have much to do with the other, other than they're both wls's,. Once the band is removed your stomache pretty much goes back to normal and my surgeon just had me wait a few months for my revision. I honestly had little success with the band, however I honestly felt more restriction with the band than this gastric. But vomiting at every other meal for 7 years was no fun and then sometimes I could eat a hog with no restrictions so needless to say I had to have it removed and try something new. The malabsortion factors are the main reasons for me getting GBP, not so much weight loss. I have diabetes and trying to reverse it. Considering the amount of weight you have to lose, you would most likely have great success. I think my weight loss is slower because I don't have much to loss to be at a normal BMI. I have lost 20 pounds since my preop weight on 12/27/2018.

    Sleeve or Bypass with GERD?

From all info. I've heard both professional and patient info. The sleeve is the worst wls you could possibly have if you already have gerd. So many people get revised to GBP from the sleeve due to gerd! Not sure why a doctor would give you such poor advice.
  24. So I got banded about 3 years ago and have not had good results. To be honest I gave up on it when I was feeling uncomfortable and it wasn’t working. I would feel full, but not the same full as before. It was more of just a build up of food. And then even though I was full, I was still STARVING. It just didn’t work for me. My starting weight before surgery was 450. I initially lost about 80, but now I’m back up to 400. I have a friend who got the gastric bypass and she said it was the best decision of her life. I need to lose weight and I have been dieting already, but the results aren’t showing. I’ve started discussing getting the revision from the lap band to gastric bypass surgery with my primary doctor, but she didn’t have much information for me. Has anyone had the revision done? Are there greater risks with having a revision? Or is it just the same as getting the surgery by itself?

    Sleeve or Bypass with GERD?

I'm 15 months post gastric sleeve. Before surgery, I had bad acid reflux. I've been on Protonix since surgery. Over the last several weeks, nausea, vomiting, can't eat solid food, pain, GERD is awful. Got dehydrated, hospital 4 days; endoscopy revealed no stricture, but erosions, scar tissue and bad GERD. Now I am not very pleased that I am most likely facing a revision to gastric bypass. I never knew that with GERD it might be better to have the bypass instead of the sleeve.
