Eating out the first time after surgery
LetGoJo replied to tinab59's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went out last night on day 8 . I had a mango lassi ( yogurt drink ) and two spoons of lentil Dhall which was too spicy. We left quite promptly as I was a little over whelmed by the heat and the food - but I was so glad to be out and sociable. I also developed back and hip pain. Staying at home I would not have known how weak I was -
Eating on the road/airports

Thank you! I forgot about those egg bites at Starbucks. At the Oakland airport now and just grabbed a Dannon Light and Fit yogurt and a cheese stick. Ho hum. -
3 weeks to the day, and feeling HUGE REGRETS!
merriw replied to char3672's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr had me on solids early too and for me my body was 100% not ready . The support group I am in most of them didn't start solids for a while after me . For me starting regular foods too early made me feel horrible. It was about 3 -4weeks until I could tolerate tuna blended really well or some egg salad . Mostly though I lived on triple zero Greek yogurt and sugar free ice pops for a while ! Try and take it slow -
3 weeks to the day, and feeling HUGE REGRETS!
char3672 replied to char3672's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The funny thing, is that the dr has had me on meats since day 6. I try EVERYTHING. I have had problems only with crab so far (or it was a coincidance) I can eat eggs, bacon, chicken, beef, cheese, turkey, cereal (dr said high fiber) he has me off shakes and yogurt, but I went back to yogurt because I NEED a little something for when nothing else works. You can also add unflavored protein powder to puréed foods and get more bang from your buck. I didn't watch carbs because I was eating so little and I was more concerned with healing and making sure I got my protein and water in. I had Greek yogurt, tomato soup, refried beans, mashed sweet potato with protein powder, eggs scrambled with cheese. I always had to have at least one shake a day to get my protein in.

Who eats McDonalds post op?
suzy1313 replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear you!! I am less that two weeks post op and on liquids and my brain is going crazy! I hate drinking my food, always have. I was never one for milkshakes, yogurt, smoothies, soup, etc. to this has really been a challenge. I've gotten to the point that the idea of drinking another protein supplement makes me feel sick. I've basically been drinking fairlife for my protein. My goal isn't to say no to McD in the future. My goal is for it to be a "sometimes" thing cause I would prefer something that is natural and makes me feel good. -
I had my revision on 6/26/2017. I feel like I may be an oddball because I'm not seeing other threads with the absence of issues. Please understand that I'm thankful and wish we all could feel this way, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm an anomoly. I am able to drink fluids and water without issues. I'm supposed to be on liquids only but absolutely feel like I could progress to soft foods. (I have snuck had a cheese nip or two). I don't get esophageal spasm unless I take a big gulp, or drink too rapidly. I only feel gross after eating if I choose to eat/drink something full of sugar or fat, or if I eat too rapidly, even though I think I'm going slow, but apparently not slow enough. I have really struggled on the liquid diet in that I'm so over this. I like most people, love to chew. I was never one to drink smoothies, milk shakes or eat soup or yogurt. I want to chew! Lets just say I haven't been the most compliant patient on liquids. What is my point? Not sure. I guess I just want to know if there is anyone else out there who feels like I do?

Lap Band to Bypass Surgery
letitgoeb replied to Thebowhunter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm not a big breakfast person... It's typically a cup of coffee (which I'll be trying to give up post surgery, much to my chagrin). I usually eat a yogurt or some nuts a couple of hours after I get to work. My band has always been tight in the morning, then looser as the day goes on. -
I'm 2 weeks out just started my pureed phase. I've been doing any soups that have the highest protein. I started with chicken and rice and I use my smoothie blender to puree. You can only eat a few bites at first so I buy the small can and only heat 1/2 can. I've graduated to a beef stew or soup with beef just make sure you really puree it and chew very good before swallowing. I've lost 30 lbs in 2 weeks. I stick to protein shakes and Greek yogurt only do I pureed meal a day. Goodluck I'm like you very worried about gaining now that I can have real food. But I've been walking a mile a day to balance it all out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app

So discouraged and need to get back the hope
Finding Erika posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, So today I am 7 months post of RNY. I have lost 57 pounds since my pre-op diet. I am so far past the excitement and hope I had when the weight was coming off during the first 2 months. Since then though, I have lost a total of only 10 pounds in 5 months (!)- I don't even really know what to say about that- I voiced my concerns to my surgeon's office at 2, 3, 4, 5 months but they keep telling me to just follow the plan and it will fall off- they won't give me a calorie count of where I should be- just 60g of protein in 2 shakes and then 3 meals of 4oz each. Obviously protein first, then veggies- but they want me eating fruit and whole grain carbs too. Obviously 64oz of fluids and 30min of cardio plus strength training 4x per week. I've been doing the eating part really well until about a month ago and then I got to the point where I realized this is just like I was before- there's nothing special about what I'm doing. I feel little to no restriction when I eat, NOTHING (and I've tried) has made me dump. I haven't vomited or had any GI problems since the surgery. So I came to the point that I realized I'm back to just being on a diet- like I've been on since I was 9. So of course my old habits and thinking came right back- I give myself excuses for grabbing a few Hershey's kisses at work from someone's desk or having just 1 cookie at a party. It's just made me more frustrated and feeling like a failure. I feel great when I exercise. I hired a trainer to see twice a week for resistance training which I think has helped. I've lost a couple of inches here and there since starting 5 weeks ago and I feel good physically. I'm just stuck. I mentioned this in another thread- that I'd been in a 4 month stall- and someone - who is brilliant by the way- corrected me and said that was called a plateau- ha! Made me laugh but it also made me feel like I wasn't imagining this all and there is something not right here. My meals are usually either ff cottage cheese or plain vanilla Greek yogurt (4oz of either) for breakfast, a premiere protein shake for a snack, salad with 2-4oz of chicken breast with veggies/beans on it for lunch, another premiere protein shake for an afternoon snack and then dinner which varies but is some lean meat (hamburger- no bun, steak, chicken, shrimp or fish) any of them of about 2-3 oz, with a veggie usually. I wait to drink until 30 minutes after eating and I take all my vitamins like clockwork each day- What am I doing wrong? And how can I get back to that place of hope where I am expecting to lose more weight. I started out at 240 and now I'm 183. Don't get me wrong- I'm not angry about having "had surgery and failing" or something- I'm thrilled about where I am but I don't think I went through all that plus complications afterwards for 57 pounds when others around me have lost almost and over a hundred at this point. Is my metabolism that screwed up from years of dieting? Or is my food addiction just not letting me see the forest through the trees? I feel like I've lost hope again- which is what this surgery had finally given me after so many years. Anyone's input would be sooo appreciated- thanks everyone for making this such a comforting place- just reading everyone's posts over the past few months has given me so much info- -
As a mid thirties bloke who was a 90% deep fried carnivore before VSG, I gotta give it credit; this food is really worth giving a second chance. Before my VSG I'd never go near the stuff, I mean lets face it, it's not exactly appetizing to look at. Three weeks post VSG now and now it's like crack cocaine to me. Mix it with some yoghurt, salsa, spices (cumin, cayenne, paprika, oregano) and some good quality chicken stock to thin it out and dinner is served in under two minutes. I've read about others mixing with sour cream and cheese and such, but personally I'm happy with good old plain yogurt. Makes me wonder, what other foods have people found that they had previously hated or avoided pre-op that they're now converted to?

I dump mostly with fatty dairy (ice cream level fats) and greasy meats (but not ALL). I can have bacon that I make myself but don't do well with the one from the cafeteria at work. I also do fine with butter, yogurt, and cheese. it's kind of hit and miss but when I get it, it seems like i'm even more miserable 3.5 years out than I was initially!! I think that adding many grain products back into my diet have only added to the issue, as I am convinced that i'm gluten sensitive....

I never had to limit fat so the chili was fine for me. Another favorite of mine is the Starbucks Sous Vide egg bites. I get the egg white ones. Even now i can usually only eat one so the pair gives me a leftover for later! Starbucks also has Siggis Icelandic yogurt which packs a huge protein punch!

I would like to see the label of your bread showing it has a lot of fiber in half a slice. And by a lot, I mean more than 3-4 grams. I didn't say it was evil I said you didn't need it. Now who is having reading comprehension trouble? And I will admit I'm surprised your surgeon allows you toast before applesauce or yogurt, both sources of carbs. But as I said you do you!

How many of us have leftover strawberries or blueberries from our 4th of July celebrations? Berries are a great, early summer fruit. These include strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Berries are packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, fiber and water. Antioxidants help slow down the aging process by protecting our cells from oxidative stress, Vitamin C helps with healing and fiber helps with digestive health. Berries have about 15 carbohydrates and 60-80 calories per 1 cup serving but the type of carbohydrate in berries don’t raise your sugars very much. Bariatric patients can use berries by puréeing the berries and freezing them. Use snack size, zipper-type bags, fill with ½ cup purée and freeze flat, which will stack better in your freezer. Because antioxidants need some fat to be absorbed, consider adding 1 teaspoon canola oil per 1 cup puree. Use the pureed berries in yogurt or when you mix a protein shake. Use ½ bag of your frozen purée per small container (5.3 oz.) of yogurt or a protein drink. That is about ¼ cup berry purée. You may need to thaw some before using the purée. Berries provide a nutritional punch your body will love. Hope you have many berry good times this summer!

Who's Currently In Pre-Op Diet Phase?
mama3beartn replied to Redo2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I always state that every program and doc is different. I posted my personal pre-op diet on my blog on here. I'm on my last week of a three week liquid pre-op diet. It gets much easier as I go and it will for you. I noticed there is always a day or so that is just real rough. The fourth day for me was the worst. But after that it wasn't too bad. I don't even feel real hungry anymore. I have a schedule and stick with it. Every hour I have something. I start with two cups decaf coffee 6am- tomato juice (5oz can) and broth 7am - premier protein shake 8am - 1/4 cup cottage cheese with sugar free jello or seasoning of choice if I want savory 9am - I repeat this once more for 10, 11, 12 and 1 - then I go home from work and have another tomato juice while I make dinner for family. I have one Oikos triple zero yogurt (coffee is the bestest) and two sugar free Popsicle. Tada - days over and I start again... LOL - sometimes I have one more shake in the evening but really haven't much. I add protein unflavored powder (Unjury) to my jello and between that and the cottage cheese and yogurt protein - it makes up the protein from that last shake. Yes there are times I so want to eat, especially when cooking something I love for dinner, but every morning I feel better and better. My edema is practically gone and I'm down 20lbs which I really feel a difference when I walk because my back is in less pain. I keep real busy. I'm taking more time in my hobbies and stuff. I love painting and spend more time doing that than eating. I also walk. Especially at lunch break at work. I walk while everyone brings in their McDonald, Panda express and all that other processed poison. It helps get me away from all the smells. *wink* Blessing on your journey - You so got this - GrInS -

The problem is that it's not only cucumber even when i eat yogurt the same thing happened i thought that i eat too much but it's only a couple of table spoons that's what I'm confused about -
Today is 3 weeks, post op for me. I started soft foods today, and had 1 scrambled egg white in Extra Virgin Olive Oil Pam Spray (I ate half of it). I also had a little bit of Greek yogurt. I did not get sick, but I had a little reflux, after.

Any prEbiotic powder allowed in the first post surgery time?
Dabearo replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as I could post op I added low volume prObiotic liquid yogurt to my diet. I'm holding off on the probiotics because I'm not sure what would happen when they swell in your new stomach. I believe in replacing healthy bacteria in your guy and do it every day. -
I weaned myself off of coffee when I started the program back in March. I like unsweetened iced tea so I bought decaf teabags and made some for a little variety in the liquids. I live alone so I purged pretty much everything I can't eat on Sunday night, including pickles (they were really old anyway). I figure the better I am during these two weeks, the easier it will be after the surgery. Eating eggs and yogurt again is going to feel like a party. Lol.
