I got my date for sleeve to bypass revision for April 9 and I have a preop for April 3rd. I'm curious as to what the preop entails as I've already had lab work and EKG completed. I'm assuming they will want to weigh me and do lab work and preoperative instructions? Am I correct in assuming that? Sent from my SM-J727U using BariatricPal mobile app

Scared thinking of canceling surgery
mamamc32 replied to Sarahrosesb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There's no way in heck I would get a lap band. My father-in-law had one that shifted and was causing him to repeatedly get hospitalized with pneumonia due to aspirating food. It took them forever to figure out what was causing it, and he has some damage from it. Eventually, he got it removed and had RNY. I also see a lot of things about revisions and problems with the band. I had VSG, and I am doing great. Yes, it's scary to think about have 85% of your stomach permanently removed . . . but it's scarier to think about all of the problems associated with being obese. After recovery, you just don't eat as much food, and you focus more on nutrition. You also feel better, so you're more physically active. It's pretty awesome, actually! You feel so much better. You have to make this decision for yourself (regardless of what your family thinks). When they see the weight coming off and your health improving, they'll understand why you made the decision to have surgery! -
please please please see the doctor about your heartburn. GERD is the most common complication with the band and over time can lead to cancer. It is why I ultimately revised to bypass in a hurry. do not let it go untreated. mine caused permanent damage, make sure you are getting it treated.
-
me, I did the removal/revision in one procedure. Mine was smooth sailing in and out in 90 minutes. My doctor has done hundreds of revisions. you want a doctor with experience, because some people end up with adhesions between the band and their organs and you want a doctor who has seen it and and knows how to deal with it. you don't want to be the first. . Yes there are greater risks with a revision depending on how much damage the band has done. the sooner you get it out, the better.
-
The longer you leave the band in, the more opportunity there is for further damage. i would listen to the medical advice and have it removed. I revised to bypass and have found it much much better. I have never heard of someone who started having band complications have them resolve on their own.

Band to sleeve success stories, please.
frust8 replied to themaestroswife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@the maestroswife, one reason could be you're older when you're seeking revision. I am still a WLS virgin, still planning surgery#1, a RnY, I know that makes me a minority in this forum, but another reason I weighed in is --there are many posters on Bariatric Pal who say their Hashimoto's subsided or went into to total remission after the sleeve. Watch your portion size, get your fluids in and watch out for sneaky slider foods and you'll be a good weight loss story. You will probably lose as much as you want to, if not you'll still be at a healhier point. Keep the faith Ladies, good things are ahead! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
Scared thinking of canceling surgery
Mattymatt replied to Sarahrosesb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The band is more dangerous with higher complication rates than the gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. Most lap band patients also end up doing a revision surgery to bypass or sleeve. The success rate is not as good and fewer surgeons are performing this operation. -
Scared thinking of canceling surgery

Remember this is about HEALTH. If you had to have surgery for cancer would they be against it. My brother died a year ago. he weighed over 400 lbs. refused to go to the Drs. I was having breathing issues and had many times I thought I would die in my sleep. I was band failure and had revision to bypass. I'm not sorry. 7 weeks out 35lbs down. It's getting real! Having my EGD and EKG done Friday! I'm having a revision surgery from LapBand to Bypass! I started my low carb diet today! So far it's been easy. With LapBand I had to do a 2 week liquid diet, which sucked! I'm looking for fellow LapBand patients who have had a revision and had success. The band honestly never worked for me. I was 393 when I had the band placed and now I'm at 370 after 6 years. I only have two main concerns with the surgery.. I'm worried about excess skin and dumping syndrome.

Newbie :) surgery date 5/10/18
Whitney W replied to LovableLisha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on getting your surgery date. I'm still working on getting mine because I have to have back surgery first. Places like this is a great place to get support. If you need anything just ask I'm having revision surgery done once I get to have it. I've had the lap band for 8 years now and have had some problems with it. All surgeries dangerous or have risk but you just have to face them head on. Hang in there you will do great. -
Revision From Lap Band to Sleeve
Whitney W posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My name is Whitney Williams I'm 30 years old and a past lap band patient. I had some great success with my lap band when I first had it put in. I lost a lot of weight and things were looking good then all the sudden my band slipped and I had to have surgery again to replace the band. At the time of fixing my band I was just starting out my student teaching which made it a little harder to go to regular appointments like I should have. Well now I've gained weight back and have been having a bunch of trouble with my band. It gets to tight and I have to get it adjusted or I get to sick and I can't keep stuff down. Right now I'm in the process of getting revision surgery done so I can get in better shape with my weight. I just hope this time I have a lot better luck cause keeping the band is not something that I want to do. The hardest part in this journey for me is the insurance requirements to have the revision surgery is a pain in the butt. I would think if they can show that I've been having problems with the band already insurance would be ok but you have to show other things than just the problems I was having. Right now my band has nothing so its making the weight loss a littler harder but I'm sticking in there and can't wait to start this journey again and get in a healthier life. I'm also going through this journey with my mom she is getting ready to have the sleeve surgery too. She's going to get to have her surgery first because I'm having to have back surgery on March 26,2018 so I have to put my surgery on the back burner until I heal from it. Well that's a little background into my journey I wish everyone luck on their journey. -
Hiya all! I’m after some advice please, if you’ve got any pearls of wisdom then they’d be greatly appreciated! ;0) i had a lap band put in situ 4 years ago and lost just over 6 stone.. and I felt fabulous!! Sadly though a year ago I had a car accident that left me with lots of issues.. one of the these being vomiting after eating food. i had a barium meal which showed I had a slipped band and esophegeal motility issues which was likely caused by the slip. they removed all of the fill in the band and since then I am still sick when I eat ‘good’ food but I am also hungry all the time because there is no trigger to the brain to stop any more. As a result I have put on over 3 stone due to eating crap because it’s the only thing that stays down... and to be honest, it also cheers me up for all of 30 seconds. As all of the above clearly spells out, I have not conquered my food demons at all and need something to stop me from putting back on everything I have lost. This is why I am considering revision surgery for a sleeve instead, but I’d like to know if they are as good as they appear to be. Does anyone have any advice please? oh, also my BMI is only 30.2 at the moment and so anyone had the surgery done at this BMI as I know they won’t do it under 30. thanks for reading my essay ;0)

New here! 8+ yrs Post Op - Calorie/Exercise ?'s after Weight Regain
Jodie_G posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, everyone! I can't believe I found this forum after 8 years banded! Looks like a lot of wonderful info and people are here! I'll try to be brief with my overview.... Heaviest was 364. Banded Dec. 2008. Currently, 258-264 (depends on the scale's mood). Lowest weight was 200 in 2014. After reaching that lowest weight, I had 4 major knee surgeries within 2 1/2 years (long history of knee issues after an accident at 9 years old). Those surgeries included 2 knee replacements and a full revision of one. I've lost range of motion with one knee and can longer do some of the things I once did. Thankfully, I can walk again and workout every single day. I also still journal and even weigh/measure my food. So, here I am... 60 pounds heavier than my lowest weight and the scale is just NOT budging. What the french toast??? I made an appointment with my surgeons office to see the NP and the nutritionist. I still feel restriction but could probably use a tiny fill since I no longer have the morning tightness. I have been eating 1400-1800 calories a day because I'm quite active. After a brief telephone conversation with the nutritionist, I'm going to alter my intake to 1200-1400 calories until I see them early next month. I keep my protein 75-100 grams a day and am doing all the things I'm supposed to be doing... with one exception. I drink water or unsweet tea with some of my meals. I'm a big water drinker and I eat healthy, natural foods. It's rare that I consume anything processed. I love my band and have not a single regret at all. I know that my metabolism is a bit wonky and I'm trying to get it fired back up again. For those that workout, are you working out in the morning? Evening? Are you eating before you workout? After? I'm trying to switch to early morning workouts before I eat. That seems to have worked for me in the past and hoping it does again. I'm open to hearing and trying new things! I'm also curious to know if anyone still journal's and if so, what is your caloric intake daily? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions are welcome! Thank you for listening and I'm looking forward to contributing anything I can to help others! ~ Jodie -
I asked about your Kiaser location for here because I was done though west la facility as revision my original was not thought them either. They only have Baratric doctors at certain facilities so after emergency room visit they had me drive to la to see one as local Kiaser did not have surgeon in that specialty. Lapband 9/11/07 227 pounds Vsg 2/13/18 Pre op diet 188 Sd. 180 Cw 167.4 Dr. scale says says one pound less First goal 169 2/26/18 Second 150 Goal weight 138

Is ESG and Gastric plication the same thing?
frust8 replied to PinkMints's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Well I've heard the difference is they do the plication with sutures and the ESG with some sort of rivets. I base this on Dr Tom Umbach from Blossom Bariatrics on You Tube. He said it is almost impossible to revise an ESG for this reason. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
Dear Lap-Band: A Fond Farewell
Dawn Hanaphy replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Thank you for this thread, And if i read it right thank for this site, it sounds like it is your baby. I am post op 8 days from a gsv revision from Lap Band, and I have to say I would like to advocate for people who struggle with their band to revise. I struggled and never really succeeded with the band. It made me feel at best like the biggest failure going. I have some strong positive energy that comes out of my mind so I just dealt with it. And although I am so hopeful that this sleeve will give me the results I want and make me that healthy gal who can live her life without fear shame and embarrassment, I know I have to step up my game. Food addiction is so stealthy a disease and I am sure my lab band failure was in small part due to my lack of vigilance. I am hoping to really follow every thing the doctors prescribe this time. I am so glad you have had a great run with your band. And I am so glad you and I recognized that it is time for a change. Best of Luck and thanks again for a great website. sincere regards, Dawn Marie -
Why a lapband? Very few surgeons are recommending lapbands these days due to all the slipping and erosion and issues, many that have them are getting them removed and having a revision to the sleeve.

I have compassion for anyone struggling after surgery. I hear stretching and revisions are a rare occurrence. Sorry to hear this was your situation. -
